Great Local Pub The Steam Wagon is one of those pubs that are sadly dying off in this country. Real people, real ales, real atmosphere and no pretentious posers. There is a sense of community in this pub due to its location on a large neighbourhood linking 3 or 4 estates, but it works. The landlady knows what acts to put on, what offers to put on and how to interact with people. Its a genuinely good place to drink and socialise in comfort.

Ladies behind the bar were lovely, ordered a couple of pizzas 🍕 which took quite a while to arrive. One of the pizzas was a spicy beef, but arrived with no jalapeno as described. We asked about the jalapeños to be told they ran out. So, not a spicy beef pizza 🫤 Maybe next time inform the customer it won't be spicy 🔥

Great buffet and cheap prices for food and drink. They can be a little inconsistent but even on the occasions where food items are missing or the quality isn't as high as usual there is more than enough decently cooked food to forgive this as they provide this service all year round. You basically get to fill your plate with a choice of fresh meat, veg, stuffing, potatoes and gravy with various options to suit most. I havnt tried there other food but have heard good things

If your going here just for a pint it does seem lovely but I wouldn't recommend eating here. Normally I never leave food but this was a different story. Waited over an hour get food in which starter was over cooked and rock hard which you could break your teeth on. Main was also the same dry and over cooked I could even stand my fork up in the mushy peas. Would not go back for food unless they start getting better ingredients and a better chef

Blonde lady behind the bar is very rude and makes you feel uncomfortable when your in there by not paying attention to you (talking to other staff over you) and the pint we ordered tasted off as she was swilling 2 pints into one glass and served it us, it tasted a bit off, obviously, so when I asked to swap it she was extremely rude saying how it's 'not ok' I told her. Completely unacceptable to treat customers like that. Won't return again

Arrived at the Steam Wagon at 5-30 pub reasonably busy. Went to the bar asked if they were doing food to be told thats a yes .Served by a very pleasant youngman who was most obliging ,sat at a table looked at the menu then ordered food at the bar. First meal arrive thrown onto the table by a waitress who did not want to be there. Asked for cutlery and sauces as none had arrived, Second two meals arrived by the same couldn't care less waitress as said before did not want to know us Asked again for sauces to be brought by the youngman who severd us the drinks. Two meals were unedible chichen best cooked in microwave so texture was vile and bland. Gamon the same no colour fat not crisp also done in microwave disgusting way to cook a meal. The youngman did come back to ask if everything was OK, to which we told him not at all happy but as we were hungry ate what we could. Will not be going again stay away from the food side drinks only. Happy Christmas One star for the youngman who served our drinks a big thank you to him.

At the moment the Hospitality sector is being hit hard, opening and closing doors, fighting to get customers back in and spending, so you would have thought after booking a table for a meal and some drinks that the pub would be bending over backwards to get everything right, serve great food and give great service right! Well actually quite the opposite, firstly they had not bothered to grit their car park so this was an instant hazard as soon as you stepped out the car. there were 4 of us eating and the food order was messed up in many ways, not enough cutlery provided, items missing, items cold, items arriving late (when asked for some salt the waitress threw the packet of salt on the table) When the food did arrive it was underwhelming, bland and very disappointing, the place was not busy and of course table service only so you would have hoped that the waitress would be attentive, regularly asking for drinks orders etc, however it was a struggle to get the attention of the staff who were more interested in chatting between themselves behind the bar. Do the owners actually want to welcome customers, provide decent food and services, encourage repeat business and build their reputation via word of mouth, it seems not, not much effort made, I think there are more deserving hospitality locations who are fighting to survive, if this place goes under it wont be missed im afraid!

Thought me and my partner would go to our local for a few drinks and some live music, while there a member of staff told a customer to ‘sort her f*cking sh*t out’ and then later on another member of staff who as regulars we know works there even though she was in drinking was screaming and swearing at another women, while her partner was threatening that same woman. Definitely don’t recommend this pub if that’s the staff they choose to have.

Visited this establishment for lunch having enquired from a couple we met by chance, if they could suggest anywhere we may get something to eat.....Bad mistake....the restaurant was cold and empty and with just a couple men in the bar area...Nevertheless we sat ourselves at a table and were approached by a very friendly and helpful bar lady who subsequently took our order....cod and chips...Almost half an hour later the dish arrived....batter and chips with a few peas....There was hardly any fish but lots of hollow batter and any fish there was, was stuck to the skin, having been overcooked...and no way resembled cod which was ordered. SInce this was from the main menu and almost £12 each we felt very aggrieved and complained...A replacement waa offerred which we declined as did not have the time to wait another 30mins....consequently our monies were refunded with an apology and we were told the chef was complaining to the supplier as it was the batter mix which was at fault!!!!! A very disappointing experience and one which we will not be repeating...over cooked chips...overcooked fish and little of it and hollow batter.....why would we return ???

Booked a Christmas get together with the girls from work. From the time we arrived to the time we left we were looked after. The bar staff are very polite and attentive and the Landlady is very pleasant and helpful. We booked and paid for our meals beforehand, some having two and some having three course meals, everything was already organised on the table and we even had place names with our courses on them. The wine was in ice buckets with ice (which is a bonus as we have been to places before and paid for expensive wine that was warm with no ice or water in the bucket) all the starters came out together. So did the other courses, with plenty of time between different courses. The food was hot enough and the wine went down a treat. Thank you for a Lovely Christmas do. XWould highly recommend a meal. They also have tvs in the bar and games room and the toilets were very clean.

Went in for a meal at Lunch time when the meals arrived the one was wrong being Gammon not Scampi as ordered. The waitress turned around as we said we hadn’t ordered Gammon and said yes we had no apology or anything. She then agreed to take it back but as walking back through the door turned to her colleague and said ‘She Ordered Gammon’. Went in to ask for a refund due to lack of apology and the rudeness of her attitude and pretty much calling us Liars. The Land Lady then proceeded to say that her staff never had said that we had ordered Gammon and that they only said they thought that, even though the Land Lady was not present for the situation. Perhaps if staff were concentrating on their jobs rather than all sitting around in the corner of the pub together then maybe there wouldn’t be so many issues and maybe if staff had training on manners.
