Red Lion in Shropshire

Our group of vintage vehicle enthusiasts (42 in all) had a great Thursday evening meal. We were all well looked after and the service was excellent considering it was such a busy night. Great food and attentive and very helpful staff who were well organised by Sarah, So helpful with some of our group who had special requirements, nothing was too much trouble, lovely atmosphere. Our second year here, look forward to next year

My wife And I visited early Wednesday evening and both had scampi & chips with garden peas £9.79 We Made the mistake of having an extra portion of scampi for £2.50 to share! The scampi must have been the cheapest of cheap they were like round little balls, I have never seen scampi that small or shape before, but was optimistic that they would be full of fish, sadly that was not the case most were half empty shells! The chips were well over cooked and just warm, the garden peas were rock hard! Judged on the meal alone I would have given a one rating! But the ambience is nice and the staff friendly! We didn’t complain because we were in a party. We have had a couple of different meals here during the last six months (sizzling salmon & steak ect ) Which have been very mediocre that we were far from satisfactory, so future visits will be limited to drinks only.

Great food. But you need to book a table as it's busy and there is not often free tables. We had to wait 30 mins for a table as we had not booked but bar man called us when one became free. Well priced food.

First visit here in a long time, but it won't be our last, the pub was so busy and the food was amazing, I had the lasagne with garlic bread and for me it was 10/10 the meal was cooked to an excellent standard, just like a traditional lasagne I would high recommend this dish, my partner had Tandoori chicken which not only did it taste good but was well presented. All staff were very welcoming, we were told we had a 40 minute wait for food which we didn't mind but our meal was served within 15 minutes. You can either order your drinks & meals at the bar or via a QR code that is on your table. There is a seating area outside, I highly recommend this pub for couples or as a family. It won't be long before I go back, plenty of meals to choose from the menu, some new meals added to the menu as well. I look forward to going back to this gem of a pub.

Go quite often food and service great.

Not enough people behind the bar, people were queueing to order food and drinks. Had to wait for my food as it was incorrect when delivered, my partner had nealy finished his by the time i had mine back. Other than that, the food was hot, excellent value for money

The food was excellent. It was my Dad's 77th birthday there was 7 of us. Tom served us our food all hot well cooked dishes. It was extremely busy so we did wait an hour for it, but it was worth it. The young lad behind the bar was very busy but still friendly and apologised for the wait. We enjoyed our meal and my Dad got a free cuppa of tea for his birthday. We pleased we will be back.

I went out for a meal with my boyfriend as I have to say the food was ok. I ordered the chicken gyro wrap with chips and my partner ordered fish and chips with bread and butter. my wrap was solid like it had been left under the hotlights for ages. my partner said his meal was really nice however the bread was stale at ends. we ordered a pint of pepsi max and a pint of doom bar. my drink tasted flat and my partners beer had bits floating in it. the lady came over and asked if everything was OK when we told her nothing was fixed. I ordered garlic bread with cheese and I was waiting for the cheese to be added to my garlic bread. overall I would give it another go but this time I'd give if a 6/10

Usually go here once a week, always friendly and hard working staff. Food is excellent for price, but today had a slight issue but was resolved more than satisfactory

Brilliant service food very good. More sauce with sticky toffee pudding. I had the tandoori sizzler and it was huge my husband had the pie and mash and he loved it. Would definitely go back.

Went there for partners birthday had a fantastic time staff were so friendly having chat and making you feel welcome sarah was fantasic. Wasn't rushed. Differently go there again. Baby guinness a must

Good value, tasty food. Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere. Today though they were busier than usual and I had to wait nearly 30 mins for my food, normally served within 10. I wasn't too bothered as I had the time but I did notice that orders must have been mixed up in the kitchen, as folk on another table who ordered before me still waited a further 10 minutes after I had been served.

Booked a table on the balcony for dinner, being elderly we know what area of the pub suits us. Arrived to a very busy understaffed pub. Told our table was ready on the balcony area. No table had our reservation ticket on. Eventually found it close to the bar. A table with high bar stool type chairs impossible for an 80+ year old to use. Heard there was a 1hr wait for food so decided to go elsewhere. A regular place for us but never again. Unfortunately I had to give one star. Standards have been slipping over our previous visits.

Very nicely refurbished. The food is very good and excellent value for money. Second visit, very busy for a Thursday. That's because it's good food at a reasonable price. Yes we will return.👍 Just had dinner here again, still very good value for money

I had the worst steak .I pointed out to the lovely waitress all the fat and gristle that was the majority of the steak and asked her to please show the plate to the chef, his reply was," all steaks are different"! Maybe so but I would have liked one I could actually eat .

A huge thank you for our Christening function organised a little belatedly but you kindly accommodated us. The food, service and drink was all excellently provided. Thank you to the Manager of the day and all staff who attended us so professionally.

Being a Bank Holiday weekend my mother in law decided to treat us to dinner. We booked for a 5:15 slit and although we were 10 minutes early our table was ready for us. We did have to swap a chair as I felt as though I was sitting on the ground. A minor problem.

We reserved a table but on arrival we realised that all the tables were available except for a couple, so me and my three guests sat in a booth. Service was provided by a young lad of between 18-21 and he provided a top class service. 4 mains and 4 desserts. The large mixed grill was excellent.

Food was lovely and came out quickly, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, even when the pub is busy. Nice atmosphere and the pub layout makes it feel cosy and welcoming.

The main meal was amazing. The only thing that let them down was the sticky toffee pudding. It was disgusting. Friendly staff.

This pub was just okay, we had originally wanted to go to one up the road which served breakfast but they had stopped serving by the time we arrived. The service was excellent, but the food was just okay, the level of cleanliness within the pub was also not to a very good standard. The place would be fine for a pint, but I wouldn’t eat there again.

Food was wrong (again) when explained to the manager food was replaced (they scraped the sauce off) then denied this had happened then accused of being abusive to the staff when i went to speak to the manager when we spend £70 each time we went in terrible attitude of customer service

I was very impressed with every aspect of my experience at the Red Lion from the staff behind the bar to the servers and the cost was very good and I have tried similar meals at other brewers but none came close to the Red Lion I have never tried a Mitchell and Butlers before but I am going back tomorrow 🤗

have been here before and not had a good meal but we thought we would try again, but unfortunately we had a similar experience. It was very busy which i appreciate is difficult however the staff were running around and didn't have time to spend answering questions. Our order was incorrect with 3 things missing, so we flagged down someone and explained the first issue, before we had chance to explain the other missing items they had gone and came back with the extra bits and brought them out on a separate plate, we then explained something else was missing and the same again. we then had to ask for sauces. We paid extra for double chips but only got one portion. But as we had made 3 queries up to this point we just carried on with our meal. Food was ok but nothing great.

Fantastic pub, the manger on duty was really friendly. Good beer and the food went down well really couldn’t ask for more, certainly be back for more.

Been to the Red Lion Shrewsbury many times & never had a bad meal, very friendly staff, good service & all round great experience every time.

We were down at Shropshire on a caravan holiday, coming down from the North East, and were looking for a really special, dog-friendly pub with a good choice on the menu and found exactly that with the Red Lion! First impressions are important and driving into the car park and seeing how clean and tidy the outside area was implied a well-looked after pub, which is exactly how it was on the inside too. First contact with the team working there gave a comfortable and friendly feeling, like you'd known each other for years! We ordered a main course and dessert and both arrived very quickly and did not disappoint on the taste or size of portions. The staff could not do any more to ensure we were happy with everything (including our two dogs!) and their service was second to none. Very happy to have found this gem of a pub in this area.

Has a really lovely meal with 2 other members of my family, I chose the Sweet Chilli Halloumi and to be fair, it was delicious. The Madri was fresh cold and refreshing (not always the case in other pubs), all the staff I saw said hello, smiled and seemed glad to see us. Really nice experience - thank you!

Been here a few times but the last two services have been notably poor. Hoping that is just catching on a bad day but wrong food brought to the table and waiting staff seem to not really be bothered

It was very different from our last visit. Understaffed and overworked for those staff who were working, queues of 15+ people waiting by our table to order food or drinks pretty much constantly and a quizmaster that basically told the whole pub that he didn't care if people didnt want to hear his quiz over the speakers throughout the whole pub. Not what we expected after how great our previous visit was. The food was of a good pub standard still, but the service and atmosphere were very different. The waiting staff were visibly struggling with the volume of service, but still came to ask if everything was alright with our meals.

Arrived with a group of 10 without booking. Never recommended as an action, but they quickly sorted a table for us and made sure that we were welcomed. Food arrived quickly, and whilst it wasn't the finest food ever served in a pub, it was tasty and very edible.

We got there 3.45 pm got a drink and sat down to look over the menu , after a few mins one of the staff came over to tell us that no food was coming out of the kitchen for a while , so i asked how long is the wait ? , the staff member said he wasn't sure , so went to find out , about an hour we were told , no explanation though , there was only us two and one other couple in the whole bottom half of the pub , so it was hardly busy and they had to wait ages to be served two burger meals , and only 6/7 tables in the other half were being used so what the problem was who knows it certainly wasn't because the orders had stacked up ! That shouldn't be a problem anyway as if you can't cover the tables you've got then you've got too many , maybe it was the regular chefs day off and there was a stand in who knows , we finished our drinks and left dissapointed !!

Outstanding experience - my mom and her partner took my children here for the first time and she told me the staff were extremely helpful, food was gorgeous, she particularly enjoyed the gammon! Having access to board games was brilliant to keep the children entertained! They will be returning!

The second time on going to the Red Lion, and like the first time, the food was amazing, and once they found out it was my sons birthday, the staff made him feel really special!

Called here for our tea whilst in the area food is absolutely gorgeous really recommend this place, lovely seating area outside dog friendly and plenty of car parking spaces

New to us but tried it a week ago after giving up on pubs we thought were GF then changed the menu. The Red Lion was a refreshing change. Friendly and reasonably priced with GF options via a tablet pad. Even asked about food not on the gf pad but were able to drop the bread off a dish making it great. No issues for me so it was truly gluten free. We have been back twice since. With our dog on each visit. Ok in the bar area and on the no smoking decking at the front. Gardens to the rear also. Plenty of parking.

I don't normally leave reviews but feel i need to. Went for a family meal an ALL meals where lovely an didn't take long at all to come. Had the tandoori chicken with skinless fries highly recommended.

First time in The Red Lion since it was turning into the Sizzling Pub Range ,Two main meals on the pub classics menu for £12.75 ,all the food cooked to perfection ....Kids eat for £1 with a paying adult during the school week ,Can get a little noisy with volume of children in early evening but generally speaking soon filters out as the later it gets ......Was present for a 60th Birthday a comical moment two of the waiting staff bringing a surprise birthday cake out in their attempts to light the candles on the go they set fire to the cake topper ! .....Give everyone a smile !

A Birthday meal spoiled by one meal being not ediable Rib cooked to death and an insult of a replacement just a blob of Gristle and food not piping hot as expected. Also only one Bar staff on taking food and drink orders so long queues and waits at the bar with only occasional help ! The waiter seemed unfamiliar with requests and needs of us the customer and unable to resolve acceptably. My meal was good but celebration spoiled by poor meal quality and the refund for the meal and a free pudding doesn't really resolve a very dissapointing visit and probably the last !

The booking was for 4 people and was initially allocated by the bar, when we arrived the staff member was putting the reserved signs on the table and upon realising we had children they immediately relocated us to a more suitable table without being asked. We were going to order drinks at the bar and then meals on the app so save people waiting at the bar but the staff member reminded us that it will get really busy and to order the food sooner rather than later so took our order from us. This was very insightful. Thank you

Great traditional pub friendly atmosphere good beer worth a visit

Great pub with good food and drinks - offers blue light discount on food too. The price is valuable for the food, the drinks were a little more pricey. Would be good if the drinks menu had pricing on the menus (only prices shown on food menus). Staff were great too

I recently made my second visit to this pub and had another great experience. The table sitting area was clean and well-maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were friendly, well-dressed, and provided excellent service throughout my visit. The pub offers a good selection of drinks, though unfortunately, none of the ales or beers on tap were available during this visit. Despite this, the atmosphere remained family-friendly and welcoming. During my first visit, I had a perfectly cooked steak followed by a delicious fudge cake, which was a delightful way to finish the meal. On my second visit, I only had a drink, but it was still an enjoyable experience. Overall, this pub continues to impress, and I look forward to coming again.

Best fish and chips we've had for a long time. And so reasonably priced

Was disappointed as we ordered drinks when we arrived and after over 20mins we had to go back to the bar and ask where our drinks were, they said sorry we are busy this wasn't good enough as customers who came in after us had their drinks taken to their table

Very busy lunchtime for food and drinks, staff rushed off their feet, doing their best, food and service was okay. Dog friendly area inside, big car park.

Absolutely shocking, had mega mixed grill and it was bad. Onion rings were solid and tasted of nothing but grease,steak wasn't cooked as I ordered it,mushrooms was raw and the sausages tasted cheap,disappointed with what I got for the money. Was my birthday as well,. Will not go bk there now

The new menu is absolutely fantastic. Service was average for a pub/restaurant but there’s nothing bad about that! Surprisingly not very busy for a Saturday at 5pm which was surprising. All in all, 5 stars 100%!
