Ye Olde Boote Inn in Shropshire

We went for a meal on a Saturday evening and enjoyed what we had😁 the steak and ale pie was lovely. Having previously eaten here I can also recommend the cheese and onion pie. The restaurant area is decorated to suite the old building, just lovely. Staff were very polite and helpful, along with a good selection of beers what else could you ask for. We will soon be returning for a Christmas meal....can't wait!

For some reason rave music is blaring on a Sunday night with an entire hotel above. Also: -no hot water -tv doesn’t work -heater broken Food was good though, just wish any amount of sleep was good too. 10/10 would never stay here again

8 of us (4 couples) stayed here Saturday 12th October. We all drank and ate a plenty ! The room I stayed in was lovely, food was great and the service exemplary. The landlords, Paul and Tony, run a great place to visit ❤️

Lovely place for a cosy lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful and the homemade cottage pie was amazing.

Lovely pub and hotel Stayed with a toddler so booked there larger room and it was perfect Only issue was the shower was very slow not powerful at all Otherwise lovely and clean perfect location

We arrived for a celebration birthday lunch . The menu was difficult to decide as everything looked tempting. The lady behind the bar was very helpful and was friendly . We had one little dog with us , no issues , they have a dog friendly area . The meals were good portions and very tasty . Will visit again , highly recommend .

Tony and Paul have recently taken over and the difference it made is fabulous. Beautiful surroundings set by the historical Whittington Castle across the road. This pub has also recently been renovated keeping the traditions of the old features. The staff are so warm and friendly. The food is always freshly made and well presented. The atmosphere is one of a homely feeling. I can recommend The Katsu Curry (My Favourite) and can recommend the Belly Pork oh my goodness…..amazing. It’s well worth the visit.

Hi had a special dinner tonight, our sons 34th birthday. Table for 6, waitress had an annoying habit of shouting our food for the table, not a hint of a smile. With being close to the bar, with the guy with an earpiece in his ear for instructions/orders had a real irritating habit of launching bottles into the bar hopper/trolley. Nobody seemed to enjoy serving our table, very disappointing. Jones table for 6.

Called for dinner. Menu is actually two in one, I.e. a cook and a chef. I had cheese and onion pie, my girlfriend had chicken katsu. For afters we had jam roly poly and custard. Very pleasant with step free access to a large car park.

9th Sept 2024 me n the mrs visited at 12:30 she had katsu curry whitch tbf was not bad I had lesange and I can can say comfortably say this was the worst so called lesange I have ever had just a fat top of cheese mushed up pasta sheets so white sauce on top no sauce in meat just plain mince was a bit pink also the chefs in that kitchen need firing this pub has potential it's just not being run properly hopefully it'll improve it future if it does I will visit again

This is our second trip here, today we just came for food, the pub is lovely and cozy, the food the fist time round was outstanding, however second time around the lasagne was not a lasagne no sauce at all just mince and cheese with very pink beef, they were amazing though and apologised and knocked it off the bill, the katsu curry is to due for though, staff lovely and very friendly and helpful, I will return 👍

Popped in for a bite to eat at this gem whilst in the Oswestry area. Food was amazing, delicious and with good portion sizes for the price, the staff were so friendly and they even have a menu for dogs! Next time we visit Shropshire, we'll go again.

Food wasnt the best. Was quiet inside. Nice atmosphere. Windows where open. Alot of noise from passing traffic. Chairs all different sizes around table. Wasent asked if wanted any deserts. Till we asked for Bill. Felt like it was an inconvenience being there.

Good food and, nice place shame about the speed of the service very long wait even when promoted several times.

We went to the boot without booking. The food pork for me and lasagna for the wife was first class and hot with an extra bowl of chips of course. We will definitely be going back

We had 2 large? beef roast dinners and a chilli basket thing. The meal wasn't great the food tasted as if it had been cooked and reheated, and the portions were on the small side. Lemonade cost £4.60 a pint for post mix which very much shocked me. The service was great though and the atmosphere was very relaxed.

Went in recently for the first time and the staff were welcoming, I had the steak burger and it was good, although it did say on the menu that it was an 8oz burger, and when it came I was disappointed, it was clearly 4oz, I would know because I cook 6oz burgers at my restaurant everyday.

Our experience i felt was atrocious we were kind and said meals were ok but I had the lasagne and it was so rubbery you could of bounced it off the floor. I ate it because I didn't want to wait another hour.

It's an absolutely amazing place. food was so delicious I had the lasagne best one by far. staff were so friendly, there were 7 of us celebrating our mates 50th. thank you so much for looking after us. xx

A far better experience than one several weeks ago.

Very attentive barman, good range of ales. Pleasant interior well furnished. Large garden area, with plenty of shrubs. Some looking desperate for a drink of water. Dogs welcome, even have a welcome table with water bowls and biscuits. We had a look at the menu but did not eat on this occasion. Would certainly return

This pub has recently been refurbished and has new managers so we thought we'd go to try it out. It was busy. We ordered a coffee but they'd run out of coffee beans, we asked for a malibu drink but they'd run out. We asked to see the dessert menu. They'd run out of 2 choices. We chose a steamed pudding with ice cream but the pudding was tasteless and the ice cream was cheap and unpleasant. We won't be rushing back!

The boot has been decorated lovely, but, the intial service was a nice welcome, the waitress who served us fine, but our drinks arrived fairly quickly but our starter, took half hour to arrive, and it was only pate with a round of toast and the pub certainly wasn't busy, Our mains arrived more quickly, but the peas with my scampi were unedible they were rock hard from being boiled to long, it's such a shame as the actual pub wasn't really busy.

Great pub in a beautiful village

Went for a mid week meal to help celebrate a friend's birthday. Atmosphere was lovely, food was delicious and the service was spot on, to be honest they couldn't do enough for us including a round of shots on the house and an impromptu bit of magic! All in all a perfect evening Well done all and thank you.

We ate here yesterday and i was very impressed with the chicken burger. Usually u get a compressed frozen burger but this was a proper piece, breaded, was tasty & moist. Well done Boote Inn. Comatsu chicken curry was lovely too.

Visiting the area for a few days and popped in for an evening meal. Food and drink were very nice and they had a dog menu too.

Food was very greasy. Wasn't enjoyable at all. Very disappointing.

Service great, atmosphere great, entertainment great, food not great, I had the crispy belly pork ( should be be called NOT crispy) the fish and chips should have been called batter and chips with bullet peas ( hard as nails ) lasagna dry as anything ( however did get a refund on that) overall really disappointed in the food would we return probably not, and before people start moaning etc this is only my own personal experience. However it was really disappointing.

We had a 2 night stay here and enjoyed it, makes a good base to explore the area. Whittington Castle is just across the road and has a great little cafe

Had heard mixed reviews about this place. Went there today. 7 of us. Seated in a corner out of the way. At 12.45 the soup was not ready. Server asked was everything o.k. I pointed out my steak was very chewy. Server moved on to the others and completely ignored me. Another server asked if everything was o.k., I pointed out my steak was very chewy. She offered me another one or something completely different. I declined as the others had almost finished their meal

Amazing food, salmon with new potatoes and veg, steak pie and chips cheese and onion pie and chips, all excellent. Service great, prompt,and friendly. One year on and still great food with great ambience. Very nicely decorated throughout.

Recently refurbished, this was a very welcoming pub in a lovely location, opposite from Whittington Castle. Prices were very reasonable. Staff were lovely and very helpful. It's billed as 'dog friendly', which it isnt; its dog worshipping! Our elderly German Shepherd was spoiled absolutely rotten, by virtually every staff member! Menu covers all the basics, with a couple of slightly different dishes included; not a gastropub by any means, but good solid food. Most nights menus have freebies and offers available. Will definitely be returning. With dog 😁

Waited over an hour for our order, and sadly it wasn't worth the wait. So don't be in a hurry if you decide to dine here for mediocre pub food.

What an amazing place to spend an evening. The food was delicious and the hosts bent over backwards to make our birthday celebration special. We had curry, steak, lasagne and pork and all were fabulous and very hot. Parking is plentiful and access is great with ramps. We will definitely be going back. X

Passing through Whittington on our way somewhere else, decided to stop for a late lunch. I had beer battered fish finger sandwich, my other half had Ye Old Boote take on a club sandwich, served hot. Great grub and lovely pub with views of the castle

Despite living in Os for over 20 years this was my first visit to Ye Olde Boote and I wasn't disappointed! Lovely, friendly welcome. Attentive but not overbearing service and some 'mighty fine' tucker to boot (see what I did there?!) We went on a Friday lunchtime and it was nicely busy. A little wait for the food, but it's all freshly cooked, so well worth it. Will definitely be going back again soon as there were quite a few others things on the menu that tempted us!

We got steak burger & lasagne both very tasty, very nice. Large portions & our puppy had sausages too from the dog menu.

Just moved to Park Hall, and was recommended to try the food here. Lovely location, attentive and fast service from all staff involved, the food was brilliant. Thank you, I will definitely come here again.

Went for Sunday lunch and it was so good! Shame there was no kids menu as it was Sunday dinner or nothing else but we still enjoyed it.

What a great place! I think they've managed to bridge the gap between a slightly posh restaurant and a great pub. This is partly due to the menu, half pub classics and half posh nosh, but similarly priced. The atmosphere is classy but relaxed. I was very impressed. Great wine list and a selection of cocktails and shots as well as beers etc. We both chose items off the 'posh' menu. Both were delicious and pleasing to the eye. I will definitely recommend this pub.

We have been a few times since the refurb and have really enjoyed it. Pub quiz on a Thursday is a great laugh and so dog friendly which we love! Tried the food this week and will definitely be back - the chicken and chorizo carbonara was unreal! Honey and mustard chipolatas were also so tasty

This is a really attractive pub, with a lovely setting by the castle, and very cosy decor. The menu appeared quite appealing. I guess I got unlucky, arriving as it opened at lunchtime going for a quick lunch between work visits. There would probably have been time but I felt less than welcome. The staff were polite enough when I came in, but after I was seated they ignored me. At this point I could count more staff than customers. I managed to get a drink, but nobody offered a menu so I had to ask. When I explained that I needed to be reasonably quick, I was told that”we have only just opened”, … surely if you are open there should be no impediment? As there seemed no interest in helping me, I just paid for my drink and left, disappointed, with the rest of my lunch break compromised. I ended up with a sandwich from Asda 😞 such a shame.

Went for my mums birthday, wasn't impressed, asked for black pepper for her starter and they didn't have any... advised only what was on the table... No black pepper in the kitchen? I had the lasagne which I didn't eat as was over cooked, hard & burnt and no flavour at all and extremely dry.. the side of garlic bread was undercooked and just looked like a normal piece of bread, had one bite and couldn't taste the garlic at all.... Ordered a side of homecooked chips, some where over cooked, some undercooked so I left them... Ate the salad that came next to the lasagne, if your serving salad with the lasagne I would suggest to do it in a side bowl as putting it next to the hot lasagne bowl that's been under the grill or in the over just made the salad awful I left my main and they did remove from the bill. Took a birthday cake in, it wasn't brought out so asked for it back and I did it at home. Not impressed, can't comment anymore on food as I only ate the salad.

It's been through a major refurbishment recently and a very warm, cosy atmosphere, decorated with lovely colours and fabrics. Now run by Abbey and Tyler, new landlords and very friendly staff. A special thank you to Natasha for making me feel welcomed and part of the family. This pub is steeped in history and almost 300 years. Full of beams and warm cosy log fires. It's known as The Boote by the locals. My meal was delicious, and my pint of Unicorn ale was perfect. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and visit. Thanks to you all, and well done.

Waited 2 hours for our food, only to be told that our food hadn't gone through the till system. We never ate as we ordered at 8pm, and by 10pm found out the kitchen didn't know we'd ordered. We're casually told when we arrived that food would be an hour wait. Were given a table in a dark/cold corner of the bar. We were told by a couple at the bar that they were staying at the hotel, and while on the loo, a stranger walked in on them. The owner was rude and argumentative.... The customer is wrong at this bar.

A really lovely establishment. Comfortable clean and nicely decorated. Serving a great pint.

Arrived on Monday for 2-night stay. The evening meal was nice but had to wait a while but was served hot. The following morning my wife only has poached eggs and was told that she could only have scrambled eggs. Also no cereals for the 2 days we stayed the cooked breakfast was very nice. The rooms are clean and tidy. But should have a greeting book with details about breakfast times. Fire escape 🔥. Also points of interest. The staff were very nice and pleasant all the time.

Stayed two nights at the recently refurbished old boot Inn. Rooms are good .the pub is brilliant looks like no expense has been spared .breakfast was fantastic .all round good experience would recommend and hope to be back soon

We booked a room and they double booked the out!! Leaving us know where to stay.Locally we found a fantastic place just up the road to stay.we definitely not recommend this place lots of staff moaning about having to stay late and start early.People left standing around at the bar waiting to be served.

Newly refurbished pub, food was home cooked and piping hot! All delicious. We will most definitely be returning very soon. The new Landlady was very hospitable and earger to please.

The Boot has been beautifully redecorated and the food that we had was lovely. However, only having 2 desserts available when you have such a selection of starters and mains is plainly a little wrong. And with the service being a bit hit and miss, I doubt I will be returning any time soon, which is a shame as The Boot was always one of my favourites.

Waited ages to get menu,then the two girls were too busy shouting talking about their life drama,as we are sitting there right next to one of them,we waited only half hour for the food,I don't mind that,I had belly pork,the fat was underdone,no crackle,my partner had a burger,no mayonnaise,ran out,as a chef,its one of the easiest condiments to make,pub nice,setting nice,thanks

Waited about an our for our food and was not overly busy for a Monday. Food was swimming in oil fish small and soggy batter, asked for garden peas got mushy which were changed.

Would give more stars if my order was delivered unfortunately I got only part of it.

Staff in refurbished pub seem more concerned with their own internal issues than customers. I saw 3 people leave.

Lovely, warm atmosphere. Food was outstanding, didn't wait long for food to arrive. Would highly recommend.

Atmosphere is 5 because it's an older building next to a castle, but still feels warm and inviting. Service was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms have all the basics covered, bathroom, TV, well heated. Beds were comfortable, curtains blocked out light. You get a kettle with supplies for tea and coffee as well. The breakfast that comes with was nice as well. Similar in that it's nothing too special but it just has everything covered generally. We also tried the dinner menu and agreed that it was all fine if a little more expensive than we were expecting. They have good allergy and dietary coverage.Good parking, all rooms are upstairs with no other way up if that's relevant.

One night stay with my partner this time for my consultation with the Orthopedic Surgeon 6 weeks later after my surgery. Room 2 this time with a twin and single bed. Again the facilities were excellent, food still good, service and staff 5 star. Breakfasts again ideal to set you up for the day.

Great pub. Stayed in the area and celebrated an 18th with family.

It was a difficult decision to give this rating but when you turn up on a Sunday late afternoon to a virtually empty pub/ restaurant and you are told that you cannot order food as 'we are not accepting walk ins', it is disappointing. Also, 2 staff members to manage bar/ check-ins, table service/ telephone etc is inadequate. We waited a long time to order a drink at the bar when there were only 3 other persons already served seated in the bar area. How will you cope when at full capacity? Sadly, will not go back nor recommend.

I had a two night stay here over this weekend and had a very pleasant stay. Really friendly staff welcomed me and showed me to my room which was really clean and organised nicely with all I needed. 7 of us then met up for a meal on the Friday night and the fish and chips were spot on! Easy relaxed stay in a really pretty little village and nice friendly warm old school pub atmosphere!

Overall a lovely place to eat. The good was fantastic, fresh and tasted lovely. So I have given the service a 4 🌟 sadly....... The girls who were working when we arrived were brilliant, attentive and had a smile on there faces all the way through the service. What let them down was they didn't have enough staff who were knowledgeable on the menu, the bar and generally what was going on. They had a lack of menus and children's menus and a man who I assumed was on a day off was sat at the bar and felt the need to help the bar staff. Sadly you would have thought this was there first night of opening. It felt a bit chaotic. They had to keep running to the chef to check it was OK if someone had a question. Personally I think you need more staff for your bar and also a member of staff to be in the front introducing you overnight guests. You had the phone ringing and the girls were to run off there feet to answer it and a lady who was with the gent who helped with the bar answered it amd it was an overnight guest wanting to know when they could check in. I don't mean this to sound negative as I want it to be an opportunity to help your amazing staff out. Again the girls were brilliant who served us.

OK rooms. Extremely disappointing breakfast. Had to wait nearly 40 minutes b4 getting breakfast. Ended up being late.

Really friendly team and good homemade food. Great Fish and Chips evening on a Friday, freshly cooked and great value for money.

First visit will not be our last. Large portions reasonable prices wine not expensive. Old pub has well maintained with lots of historic photos etc
