Great pub, staff super friendly and food is priced qell Lovely outdoor area which is dog friendly

Really lovely food, 3 adults and 6 children and everyone was happy! Would recommend.

What a brilliant find! The perfect old country pub - but in the town. Great beer and good friendly welcome. Pool table in a separate area and easy wheelchair access through the sun trap beer garden and ramp access to a comfortable and welcoming lounge. My favourite part of the dog walk through Sanders Park and on to Ye Olde Black Cross for a lunchtime pint. Yes these lovely folk welcome well behaved dogs with well behaved people! UPDATE 😁😁new management. Determined to make a a mark. Great beer good prices and wonderful food in a great atmosphere.

Eee, a good ol boozer, plenty o rooms & outside, good choice of cold beer, the menu starts next month, however as a pub it's a gud en!!.

Went to see Mel & Him there on Friday and all I can say is was a brilliant night good atmosphere and the staff was really nice and smiling all night

I'm looking forward to seeing and trying the food options once available. I'd turn the music down when the football is on so we can hear the commentary.

Love the staff here make you feel very welcome and the fact it is dog friendly aswell would recommend it that has a dog 🐶

Great start from the new management, pub spotless and fresh with exciting things on the horizon including new kitchen and menu. Regular and varied live music on Saturdays is also fantastic and the beer garden improvements should make for a great summer. Keep up the good (hard) work.

Started coming back down here and glad I have as everyone is friendly and atmosphere is better oh and the bank's smooth pour is spot on.

Yeah been good since I have been back going in ,always supported them ,whilst been drinking a proper pub, you never get bored of ,a very quient place,like a proper ole ale House, timbers & all,& what josh has done to turn the pub around, is remarkable, fairplay to him & the team ,xxx

Best Guiness in bromsgrove!!! Atmosphere has completely changed in the past 3 months since Jay and Stacey took over the pub, cleanliness is 10/10 compared to what it was 6 months ago since the old landlords have gone.

The atmosphere is great , the new team is absolutely spot on and makes you feel so welcome, and the best pint in bromsgrove

Absolutely amazing night at my local. Such a breath of fresh air being able to come into this pub again and be served with a team that can actually smile. The atmosphere was electric. The pub is very clean, warm and inviting. The drinks are served nicely. Was served very quickly by Stacey who was very friendly. Stacey was joined by Jay so staff availability wasn't a concern at all. I cant believe in such a short time how the black has transformed. Can't wait for the kitchen to open in the near future. The new landlords obviously have alot of experience in turning failing businesses around very quickly. Marstons have got it right at last. Putting someone in charge that runs another pub in the area who evidently knows what they are doing. I'm still shocked at the range of stock as the last owner didn't know her a*rse from her ti* and was unfriendly and useless. Well done team! See you Sunday!!

Paul & New team superb - great live music could unearth one of the oldest pubs again

Had a good night New Year's Eve, staff were very pleasant, not a full crowd but for what were there they made it a really good night, the DJ was brilliant. Sorry we had to leave early we had plans, will visit again as they have a DJ every Friday night and karaoke the last of the month. Sorry for the late review just came back off a weeks holiday.

Only let down was the language of some of the customers when there were children around.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon to an absolutely empty pub. No atmosphere, no music, just a singular member of staff shacked up in a corner on his phone, not even behind the bar. It seemed like myself and my friend were almost disturbing him by being there. When looking to inject a bit of life into our visit we headed for the dart board, where we were told that there were no darts to play with. Making it a redundant decoration. Needless to say, we didn't stay for long, downing our drinks and getting out of there sharpish.

Great atmosphere nice pint and to tip it off amazing staff nothings too much for them, would love to see this place do food but other than that can't fault the place or the ladies running the place

Was in here in Saturday 30th they had a live band on thirsty work I belive it was called brilliant night was packed but still great service will definitely be bk soon

Fantastic historic building and a welcoming atmosphere.

The service at the bar was slow, I believe this was due to the barrell being changed and a new member of staff being trained or micro managed when something went wrong. Otherwise it was a nice place to have a few drinks. The decor is very dated and the gents toilets have holes in the roof. I think if they invest in giving it a refresh and repair it'll be great. But the team are doing great with what they have to work with. Locals were all friendly and welcoming. Will definitely go back! Free parking was a huge bonus!!!

Many rooms to choose from if you want a peaceful pint. But sadly the carling was very off. Looked around and noticed no one but me was drinking Carling so beware when entering.

One of if not the best pub in Bromsgrove. Food is always amazing and the atmosphere is so welcoming. Staff are friendly and management seems to go above and beyond. If you’re in the area I highly recommend paying a visit.

Have known this place for 35years and have never been so disappointed. We are not moaney people I have to say firstly!!!we were in the front bar and our drinks were done in the back bar out of sight which I didn't like .All four of us thought our drinks were weak and didn't enjoy .I actually left most of mine ! When I asked the barmaid if my spirit was a double as ordered she replyed "yeah" and had such a bad attitude.I was really disapointed as I love this old place .

If your looking for a pub with a lot of history, friendly atmosphere and great authentic aesthetics try this place, you wont be disappointed. Very friendly pub, all the punters and bar staff all very nice and friendly. I was only there for one drink but wow, I didn't realise that this pub was so old and friendly.

Parents and friends visited on Saturday, 21st January, and the drinks were disgusting. They were poured out of the back, which was strange considering all drinks were available at the bar they were served from. When questioned the staff weren't bothered so left the drinks on the bar as they weren't fit to be consumed! What a waste of £28.

Visited the olde black cross at Bromsgrove today and the four of us had four different meals which where out standing and all home cooking, l am a vegetarian and there was plenty of choice for me, staff where friendly and helpful.

This was our first visit to this pub after moving to bromsgrove had a Sunday dinner I had lamb my wife had the beef both were excellent good choice of beers will definitely visit again

Just had a fantastic roast dinner from Ye Olde Black Cross and was very impressed with the quality and taste of the food. Delivered by Uber in as quick as 20 mins all perfectly packed and well worth the price too! I will definitely ordering again from here.

Couldn't have been welcomed any better. Had a large platter with extras between 5 of us. Ages 2 to 64 lovely presented. 2 children's meals for £1 each A hidden gem. The food was of an excellent quality couldn't have been bettered. Thank you we will be back.

EDIT I apparently left this place a 3 star review 4 years ago (which I completely don't remember doing), but it doesn't even slightly do it justice. The Black was my go to boozer when I lived in Bromsgrove, I was a regular there from 18 until well into my 20s (I'm well into my mid 30s now). I have too many fond memories to recount. Everytime Im back home I make sure to pay it a visit and despite having several new owners in my time away, it hasn't lost an inch of character or atmosphere. TO THE OWNERS - please accept my apologies for the lacklustre 3 star I don't remember leaving. I have amended to a much more deserved 5 star.

Popped in with our grandchildren on the spur of the moment and had a lovely lunch. The service was good and food excellent we will most certainly be going again.

Today we visited for the first time in a very long time and were VERY impressed. We received a very warm welcome and the pub was clean and tidy. The service was incredible and the food was DELICIOUS and really well priced!! We will be back again very soon :)

Vast improvement on the last time we visited. It's a great pub inside anyway but there's a better atmosphere, probably due to there being more people. Three choices of gask ales plus now food is served, staff friendly so what more would we need ? Well worth a visit

Then the food is just the lovely I had the Sunday roast 😍 everything was lovely and hot tasted amazing and that gravy and yes I asked for extra!! Popped in here a few weeks ago with the mad family, had an absolutely brilliant night. Staff were friendly, service was fast and served with a smile. Josh was always present behind the bar, collecting glasses, talking to customers. Will definitely return next time I'm in town. Good work guys Mark

Visited the Black Cross today for the first time after hearing so may great reviews about the food they offer, WOW....4 of had a Sunday Roast for Mothers Day, we was offered a choice of 4 meats and all the trimmings, very very tasty, very reasonably priced. We will all be returning again. 👌👍

Quiet, nice pub! Friendly staff and good atmosphere

Would like to advise people not to park at this pub. it likes to employ a private parking company to try and extort money from motorists who park wrongly in any way. This is all the more laughable in that the pub, already a listed building, never sought planning permission or advertising consent to erect its cameras and parking notices. So they are operating illegally. Needless to say Bromsgrove and Redditch planning enforcement are visiting in the next few days.

Need a choice of more ales on tap, mind that has been the case for the last twenty years!

I absolutely love popping here for my Sunday lunch! The meat literally melts in your mouth, the cauliflower cheese is delicious and I also force myself to finish off with a hot chocolate fudge cake because I just can't resist! The staff are so friendly and welcoming and so are the customers. The beer garden has a lovely relaxing feel to it and you can't beat it on a lovely sunny day. 5/5
