We had not been for years but we were recommended to try it once again by friends. The menu was small which isn’t a bad thing and prices perhaps just a little higher than the local average for similar outlets. The prawn starters were excellent and good value for £8.95 … My wife’s salmon main was excellent but unfortunately my own Lasania choice was very poor … dry, lacking in filling and unacceptable. It was changed for the fastest option which was fish and chips ( evenings are spoilt when food is returned) Unfortunately, the fish and chips were rather disappointing too so overall it was not a good return. Certainly below expectations for the £40 per head we paid With so many other nearby outlets offering good food, at similar pricing levels I think my ratings are fair, even perhaps a little generous.

I was in the area after visiting Becketts farm and this was the first place that came up when searching for food. You will not be disappointed. The restaurant itself is very nice and clean. Decor is lovely and so is the garden. Food was 10/10 and service, i will be visiting again and can’t recommend it enough.

We were on the way home from holiday and needed a meal - always unknown if it'll be enjoyable. But we were so glad we stopped here, the food was superb, the slow braised beef and lasagne were both perfectly cooked and presented, and the staff were all very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, well kept and comfortable surroundings , and parking is very easy on site. We really recommend this place to anyone for quality food, lovely decor, and excellent service. We hope to go again. Thank you to all the lovely waitresses.

The food was fabulous as always. My only comment would be that the 3 desserts on offer with the Sunday lunch were all hot, and it would have been nice on a hot day like today to have had a summer cold option. Apart from that, it was fantastic 👏

Celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary with family. Staff were very attentive but not overbearing. Our granddaughters enjoyed the play area. Thank you to all concerned.

I absolutely love this place. first time going last week and it didn't disappoint. Staff are mostly young but are very good at what they do, polite and friendly. food was amazing and reasonably priced. family friendly and decor is lovely. give it a try im glad I did.

I just wanted to send a quick recognition to the staff and chef on Monday evening. I am a vegetarian through pregnancy from 6 years ago not ethically! Since then I can’t eat meat but still love gravy etc. I was desperate for a roast and that’s why we chose the Portway which isn’t an uncommon chose for our meet ups but it had been a while. My waiter had all the patience in the world listening to me attempt to order a roast without meat etc but I didn’t want the veggie roast which had halloumi and pesto, I wanted a roast just without the meat. My dinner was delicious. The chef and the waiter really put in the effort to create a roast for me. Can you pass on my thanks, the awkward customer shall return to their dismay.

Arrived, Friday day, no food until 5:30 cash only as machine broke. Left without eating with our children, went elsewhere. It was possibly just a bad day, but the gap in food service was a bit annoying.

First impressions from the state of the front door is that the place needs some refurbishing. The interior appears to be ok. Bar staff were slow and unprofessional. We didn’t eat so no comment on the food. We were doing a reccy for a family meal for 12 but don’t think we will bother.

Service very poor. Not staff fault, more management. The staff seemed overwhelmed and too busy to cope. Management obviously penny pinching on staff but still charging very high prices beyond the quality of the food. Food was Ok but the whole experience just very disappointing, due to long waits and confusion in orders etc.

Lovely garden for sunny evenings. Sadly bar staff cannot cope. No idea who they are serving next. Need to be more aware. Massive queues, so we left without ordering food as we got tired of waiting. Try again sometime when it’s quiet. 😥😥😥😥😥😥

Lovely place for a meal. Had Roast beef sandwich for lunch that was so tasty. There was a log fire blazing and staff very friendly. Good choice on menu and good prices. Rebooked already.

Whilst there were a lot of young serving staff...they were absolutely great!! We were seated promptly & just the right amount of customer contact throughout our drinks/meal. The place was buzzing and the garden out back looked lovely. Brilliant food, what a lovely place to have a Sunday roast lunch. The staff & food (shout out to the team in the kitchen) were a credit to the Rose and Crown management and owners!

The restaurant which has been completely refurbed fairly recently feels as though it is part of a chain, no individuality. Food terribly overpriced and certainly not value for money, not chef worthy more microwave technician. The drinks as well overpriced in fact my partner went back to see if he had been overcharged...he had not. Staff very helpful and friendly but that is the only thing going for it. Certainly will not be going back which is a shame as very local to us

Great food, nice place and a great set meal.

Just had Sunday lunch at Rose and Crown Portway. One particular large table was so noisy, shouting and screaming. Their children were running in and out of the fire door it completely spoiled our time there as we were sitting next to the firedoor. The food was ok a three course Sunday lunch at £27.95. It's an unwelcome supplement £2 for roast beef, so it's really a choice of chicken or pork loin for that price. Also, a supplement for mashed potato is unbelievable. I had fish and fries, not proper chips as advertised with a choice of lemon wedge or pickled onion wouldn't a lemon wedge be standard in most places. Choice of Tartar or curry sauce. A choice of three deserts one was sold out so disappointing. Staff were friendly. I won't be rushing back there, especially on a Sunday.

Service is great, been here many times and the food is great, but the fact the website and Google states 10.30 closing, so you pay taxis to get there, and they close at 9, just annoying! Felt sorry for the staff who apparently told head office to change it and don't listen is strange!

First time visit, the food is not cheap but is of great quality, which I don’t mind, a nice clean place, the service was great to start with, but wasn’t given the dessert menu, had to chase one, the other thing is the staff were young but really nice but unfortunately I didn’t really want a gum chewing young lady taking the order, a better service would have finished the meal nicely, felt let down

Rock in’ Rose! Wonderful newly refurbished pub/restaurant. Loads of space, beautifully furnished, very clean. Large amount of parking. Staff were all very friendly and efficient. Had a really tasty fish tacos starter to start. 2 large soft tacos. For mains we both had fish ‘n’ chips. Very large and perfectly cooked fish with a large portion of perfectly cooked ‘skin on fries’. Came with home made tartar and fresh mushy peas! This place is brilliant!

Had our staff & contractors do in their outside Contianer bar area jsut before christmas. Awesome site and venue, Nothign was too much toruble for Stpeh and the team, the food was spot on and they wre very acomodating helping us book in and setup additional entertainement on the night. Really helpful all round and clearly experienced, professional hosts! its a gorgeous pub too!

I booked a eal for 5pm on boxing for 8 members of my family as a christmas present for family ..I booked several weeks before and was not asked to pre order our meals ..we arrived at 4.55pm to be told we hadto order the meals now as the kitchen was closing we were very stressed out on boxing night and hadto order for members of the family who were at the Bar . We felt that we were not wanted ..I phoned to speak to the assistant manager who has not resolved the issue considering it was boxing night and a very special day we were treated very badly ..I am still waiting fir a resolution to the poor service

If I could give 0 star I would , me and my family walked in, and was sat down by the waitress, unfortunately my daughter has a disability and because she changed her mind on the menu, as kids do ,our waitress said abruptly COME ON I HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY ,I complained to the managers and to be honest they just wanted to sweep it under the carpet especially Ben, he was rude to me when I complained to him about our experience ,obviously he condones discrimination in his pub what a horrible little man he is ,me and my family or friends or their friends will keep clear of here in the future, and spend our money where we get the treatment we deserve, shame on you Ben

An absolute little gem. I love your place, only just recovered it this year so we've made our local fav. The food is delicious, well presented and has great portion sizes. The staff are brilliant, so friendly, helpful and service driven. The place itself is beautiful, well designed, great atmosphere. We think it's fab.

Haven't been for while. In a party of 6 tonight we had everything from Christmas dinner, salmon and beef. Everyone agreed meal was superb, well presented and very fresh tasting. Will definitely return again very soon .

The vegan pizza was great! One of the best vegan pizzas I've had. Would definitely return for it. The restaurant was lovely, very nice interior. The waitresses were very nice and helpful too. We had a nice area of the restaurant to ourselves as we were a party of 17. We did all have to go and order at the bar and the food came out in batches, so some of us had finished by the time others got their meal, but it wasn't a huge deal as we were all chatting away anyway. Overall, one of the best restaurants in the area I think.

Very over priced meal . Pork was dry no crackling cold scallops and greasy cabbage. Trying to be fine dining but food was not cooked well. Hospitality was good.

We wanted to book a table for 8 people , couldn't do that through the website as more than 6 people . Called a number of times with no answer , someone just answered today and said they were too busy to take a booking now, call back later. Obviously we won't be .

Just cannot fault this place. Been going for several years and always had fantastic food and great service. Went for Sunday lunch today and everything was perfect! Such an imaginative clever chef and lovely friendly staff. Well done all of you!

Disappointed visit today. Booked in the week for 7 for the dining area. Turned up today and told we need to order at the bar, not ideal but OK. Ordered at the bar and asked to run a tab. Don't do tabs in the bar, Asked a server if they could take our order, but they don't do service in the bar. Would have been nice to be informed of this when I called to book the table. The food was decent.

Headed out on a Monday evening with family. We normally go to another local pub but as they weren't selling food we ended up trying the Rose and Crown. As we had not had any recommendations to eat here, so we weren't sure what to expect - but happy to say the food was fantastic and servers very attentive. Good choice of beers on tap. Will certainly be popping in again!

Ordered the fish goujon sandwich...absolutely disgusting. It was greasy my hands were covered. Tried to remove the batter to find little to no fish...complained to waitress who said we should of complained at the start of the meal. When the waitress asked if it was OK...I was mid bite and we said it LOOKED nice...which it did ...but the reality was not

Saturday night so with others decided to try the R & C. It hasn't got the best street position but the owners seem to have got everything right in side, going for the standard grey but excellent use of dividing the place into eating rooms, so separate parties can be given some sort of privacy. The drinks on tap were okay, the Doombar was very good, personally I would have liked to see a couple more draft ales but youcant have everything. There was a fair range of food available, not exceptional but fair. When it arrived it was very good, full of taste and cooked as I wanted it. The service and attention was very good, they did not make a big fuss when clearing, all done ensuring the guest enjoys their experience. In .an extremely competitive market place you can get into a real mess both if as an owner you don't get it right or as a person looking for a good meal with company you pick the wrong place. So pick the Rose & Crown. Overall, well worth a visit, I know I'll be going back soon.

This is a beautiful restaurant. It is tastefully decorated and has a warm and friendly atmosphere. We were warmly greeted by a member of staff and shown to our table. We didn’t have to wait long to give our order or for the food itself. The food was fantastic. The portions were very generous and hot. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we have already greed to visit again soon as we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

This place is great no matter what the occasion….couples, family, friend or kids! The food is incredible, freshly cooked & hot, really varied so something for everyone. Menu is tweaked regularly too. The staff are so helpful and accommodating, very happy to help and the service is great.

What a find ! The outdoor dining area is lovely. The garden is well maintained and has a play area for children. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Great menu choice and very reasonable prices. My daughter ordered the tofu rice bowl which was amazing. I had a pizza which was very nice and freshly made, not a pre-made base. Highly recommended. My only comment to the management would be to add some shade when you eat outside. We had to move inside.

went there on the off chance and for the first time.My wife was escorted to a table by a very nice young lady but unfortunatle forgot to get her name. we sat down and were asked what we wanted to drink by a young lady named LUCY we then had an excellant meal in a very nice atmosphere,we will definately visit again if we are in that area DAVID AND DEE HALL

Popped in for a couple of pints. Waited a while before being served. It was mid afternoon though,didn't have food so I can't comment on that.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and some of our party had Sunday lunch and others had standard offerings. All of the food was fantastic! It was hot and very tasty and the portion size was more than adequate. The service we received for our waitress was excellent, she was friendly, attentive and seemed genuinely interested in us having a good time.

Went here to break our journey to Oxford, they allowed us to stay free overnight in the car park in our motorhome. The meal was faultless and good value for money, in beautiful surroundings. We'll worth the visit.

Food was nice, atmosphere was good and it was a lovely place but the bar staff needed training and were very slow and very inefficient, table staff were good but drinks were very expensive.

OMG...came across this pub on a drive out. I have just eaten the best food I have ever eaten in my life!!! I will now be addicted. The blade of beef set my taste buds into a heavenly explosion. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive to all guests. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection.We will be returning asap and highly recommend this establishment for people seeking top quality food and a top quality service.

Lovely food service can be a bit slow

The booking up of a table was easy to do online. On entering the staff members was polite to show us the menu and table but a bit slow on receiving us from the entry section towards the dining section. The meal was tasty and great value for money, but again took near 45 minutes to arrive, yet only me and another table was there. And no one came up to see how we was for drinks whilst waiting Drinks was good. In terms of selection and was ice cool.
