Nice little traditional friendly pub centred in the Carfax, Horsham. Enjoyed the beer and everything was clean and tidy. Worth a visit if your in the town

Quaint old fashioned pub with wood floors and beams. Assortment of tables and armchairs. Very popular with locals. Badger ales but the only stout was Guinness.

If the management don’t get a grip on things very soon i am afraid this once fine establishment will fold. The swearing from both staff and customers was off the scale and not just the odd slip but constant for the hour we were there. Extremely drunk locals absolutely off their faces which was very intimidating for the odd visiting customer. We witnessed at least 2 couples hurrying their drinks and scarper very quickly. Also, 6 of the beers had run out.. not a great look! Either poor management or cash flow issues but the few regulars they have will soon shop elsewhere if this continues. Great shame as this used to be “the pub” in Horsham for many a year.

Saturday shopping done, time to find out what has happened at the Stout House ,now Barry and his wife have left.Walk in to find, one noisy child of 5/6 running amok , toys pilled on the bar ,the bar billiards table missing.Ordered our drinks, sat down for what we thought should be a quiet time, our noisy friend had other ideas ,asked the child 3/4 times to stop screaming,to no avail, drank up and will no go back again. COME BACK Barry all is forgiven!!!

I like this little boozer... A lot of people say the landlord Barry is grumpy, I haven't seen that... I love to have a pint of Guiness here on a Saturday, and the landlord plays "Planet Rock" on the radio, which I like. It may be pricey for some, but I like the quiet atmosphere!

Don’t expect a glowing service or warm welcome in this place! The landlord is a rude obnoxious little fellow with absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever. After skimming previous reviews the repetitive phrase that certainly stands out is “How is this place still open!?” rings true . It’s common knowledge that treating your customers well and with a smile will improve their experience dramatically! Given this pub is your standard public house broker (if you like) they sell widely available lagers, bitter and ales so you don’t come here for exclusive or locally produced beers. So without the customer service your not getting any privileges with this place. The pubs suggests a traditional (“proper”) pub atmosphere with no signs of refurbishment since maybe the dinosaurs were roaming the earth. With the tobacco stained walls and ceilings, dilapidated plaster and and torn lining paper the place could do with a bit of TLC.Overall a cold experience, small and uninspiring collection of drinks, bad customer service and the layout of the pub is pretty dire too! The landlord clearly only has time for his local (what you could probably consider resident guests - the same crowd is in there every weekend) customers so anyone with an unfamiliar face just expect to be punched upon arrival then you’ll have what you could consider a good experience. If I were to highlight anything or disclose any positive remarks it would be that you can always get a table, 9 times out of 10 the place is generally half empty, due to the lack of atmosphere it doesn’t attract undesirable and excitable crowds so if you do want to wind down for a drink at the end of the night it’s an ideal venue.

What's the best thing about visiting Horsham, you guessed right, why not pop into the Stout House for probably the best pint of Guinness for miles and a proper cheese roll made with a real mature cheese and then why not spoil yourself with a packet of Ox crisps, wash that down with a second pint of superbly poured Guinness and you won't go far wrong, great pub you can even get to read the paper and watch life fly by, my kind of pub 10 out of 10

Visited this pub last Saturday with my family and had a half pint of ale which was fine. Decided to go for a different ale afterwards but as soon as I picked it up to drink it I noticed a horrible smell coming off of it. I decided to take a sip anyway but it really didn't taste right ( I drink a lot of different ales). I asked my partner if he would go and ask the bar lady to change it to another ale for me as that one clearly wasn't right. She refused to do anything about it and said it probably just tasted different as it was a different ale to the first one I had and that it was a new barrel.I have worked in pubs before and I know myself that it is fairly common for the first few pints not to come out great. This beer smelt of rotten eggs - so maybe it could have been the glass not great after being in dishwasher.Whatever it was, the drink was not sold to me at drinking standards and it should have been changed.Instead I was left with a half pint of disappointment. We decided not to bother with another round and most definitely will not be back again.

This traditional, old-established pub in the heart of Horsham does what a good pub should do: serve great beer. You won't find any gimmicks here, it's a place where you can have a quiet drink whether by yourself or with others. The landlord is a cricket aficionado and is a pleasant fellow although some consider him a little reticent and grumpy. You can't get anything more English than a place like this.Perhaps not ideal for the young and lively.:

I had a half hour to kill whilst my wife and her sister were shopping in Horsham Carfax.I popped into the Stout House and was a bit apprehensive as I am a Lager drinker, I dreaded the thought of seeing an array of real ales on sale. However, my eyes lit up when a saw the Peroni masthead on the bar. The "Guvnor" looked like your typical country pub landlord and welcomed me.I ordered a pint of Peroni and went into my back pocket to pull out a fiver. Shock, Horror, £5.30 please sir !!! I had about 9 pence in loose change in my pocket so pulled out a tenner. Obviously ended up with £4.70 change, needless to say, I just had the one pint and walked out with shrapnel from a £10 note.No doubt, the pub is probably a very nice drinking hole, but only if you are a millionaire. Certainly not for a recently retired Taxi Driver from Kent !I have never paid more than a fiver for a pint, not even in London, so I fail to comprehend how you can justify £5.30 for ANY Premium lager, especially in a dreary dull bar in town.

Of course Ye Old Stout House is not a restaurant - it's a pub! And a bloody good one at that. No food served, except for simple filled rolls at lunchtimes, but that's not the point of YOSH. It's the place to go to have a pint and a chat with friends, or nip in whilst shopping. Quiet music most of the time, good beer, bar billiards table, books round the back. Saw an advert on Facebook for Sunday Dinner with "Kids Eat Free" so decided to take advantage, and take the family. My wife, 3 children and grandparents had a fantastic Sunday Roast and look forward to returning in the future. At £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses, the meal we enjoyed today offered exceptional value for money. Between us, we enjoyed 2 starters (both had smoked salmon), 7 main courses (4 x Roast Beef, 1 x Roast Chicken and 2 x Fish & Chips) and then x6 desserts (a selection of ice cream sundae's, chocolate brownies and cheese and biscuits). Given the quality of the food, and the service too, I would be very pleased to return on a Sunday when the kids meals are to be paid for...... it was that good. We already can't wait to return.

We have often passed this attractive looking pub but this time decided to stop for a late lunch. We were warmly greeted and shown a nice table by a window. The decor is very stylish, creating a good atmosphere. Our drinks order was taken and delivered promptly, as was our meal order. M had beef and ale pie and I had grilled chicken served with pappardelle and a creamy sauce. I love pasta and this was a delicious dish. M declared the pie to be first rate. We were going to be good and resist pudding but succumbed to a mini dessert with coffee - caramelised profiteroles. A perfect round off to an excellent meal. We will be back.
