Yates's in Newcastle-under-Lyme

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO YATES - would put 0 stars if google let you Had a disgusting experience at Yates on Saturday night for my best friend’s birthday. After queuing up for 40 minutes with no issue, after being let in and waiting for ID to be checked, I was told by security and the manager that I was being refused entry due to the material of my trousers. They said that these were “trackie bottoms”, which they aren’t and there was no empathy shown by the manager, who was rude and disrespectful. We explained in a nice manner that the reason I was wearing these trouser that were more stretchy than jeans (see picture below) was because I had been injured, breaking my arm and kneecap a week ago and awaiting surgery, so my leg was too swollen to put into jeans. I understand if someone was in spots material outfit to be refused entry to uphold the standards the management want but as you can see from the picture below I was in a smarter outfit than the majority in the queue as I was wearing a Hugo boss polo, M&S trousers and Ted baker shoes. However, others who were wearing ripped cargos were able to be let in as apparently that still upholds the standards. It’s a real shame there was no cooperation due to the circumstances of my injury excluding me. The manager said that if I had a “broken leg” it would be different, so why is a broken kneecap any different to that? This has left a sour taste in my mouth and has actually made me feel quite discriminated against. The manager in particular was horrible towards my girlfriend, who was trying to explain the situation and understand why he wasn’t letting us in, but he would just dismiss and talk down to her, utterly disrespectful and people like that shouldn’t be working in hospitality. It wasn’t even that we were drunk as neither of us drink for religious reasons. I hope we receive some clarity over why this situation has happened.

Used to love coming here but they hadn't even got half the draft pumps available, grand national day should have been rammed instead it was sticky floored dive.

Had a steak there it was bloody lovely a nice thick lump of meat

Came for tea with my husband and grandaughter, staff very friendly and welcoming, didn't have to wait long for food, food was well presented, and very nice, we had fish and chips, the fish was delicious, grandaughter had a breakfast very nice, good price too will defo come again

Oh wow so many issues. Was served by a male bartender. A customer walked past us to pick up a tissue and some spray to clean his own table, bartender decided to blow him a raspberry which promptly hit me in the cheek. He apologised, I'll take that. I asked for a coffee and was told he'd bring it over. I went to sit down. Ten minutes later I approached the bar to ask where it was. Bartender pointed to a now cold cup on the bar. Bartender had a radio on his person turned to absolute full volume coupled with a second unmanned radio sitting on the end of the bar, this was also turned to full volume. Every time someone spoke over the radio we had to listen to it echo between the two radios. Dirty glasses on empty tables and the bar, all while the bartender stood texting on his phone.

Really enjoyed the lunch. Friendly staff and nice and warm from the cold outside.

Not my sort of place. Eepecially when an exceptionally drunk young woman is trying to get her male partner to pick a fight with me. He couldn't apologise enough.

Just called in for a cooked breakfast, not really busy so no atmosphere at that time of day...friendly staff and food cooked nice and quickly...just no hot drinks as they had a problem with the boiler, but this was clearly stated on a sign on the front door before you came in,so no problem 👍

Just came in for a dessert... delicious and atmosphere is lovely thanks to zara tash John kyra and especially Jordan Ramsey

Come here occasionally for a breakfast and a pint. Cheap enough only £5.99 for large breakfast (2 of everything). All customers are friendly and you get left alone. Also, if we take our dog they are alowed to come in with us.

Sticky floor, dirty toilets. The staff is so poor in service, the food had to wait a very, very long time. Then the staff said they only had one cook. Friday night, one chef. Is that normal? One barman, and such queues, you had to wait two hours for your food and no one warned you about it. And the food was so bad

Had 3 pints and watched the mighty GUNNERS on a Sunday afternoon.

My wife and I just fancied a drink and popped in here on Sunday afternoon. There were a few people in, mostly men watching football. We selected a quiet spot and ordered a chicken sub and a chicken wrap, both cost £6.99 with a free soft drink. We upgraded to an alcoholic drink for an additional £1.50 each. We were served quite quickly. The waitress just plonked the meals down with a quick 'enjoy' and shot off without asking if we wanted any sauces. The food was awful. Both the sub and wrap were dry and chewy and the chips were tasteless. The drinks were OK. We won't be returning any time soon..

Bar staff good but dealing with to many things from the kitchen didn't have any 10 something rose wine on a Saturday afternoon at 3-30 but still a good place very hard working staff thanks Debbie

Popped in for a warm drink & stayed for lunch. Good choice on the menu. Including light bites & small plates (these were. Mostly on subs or wrap s. I settled for scampi & chips,which I enjoyed, except scampi was a bit overcooked. But still very enjoyable & not so much on the plate it over faced me. My daughter had gammon & chips & my son all day breakfast. Both were more than happy with their meals & not much left on their plates. Everything was clean & well presented. Can recommend chocca mocha to drink had plenty of cream on the top. Lol.

The breakfast here was so good, better value and quality than the Spoons and food service too.

Food on floor. Staff very good told customers to moderate language. Staff pleasant.

i last posted over a year ago about yates. when this place gets its beer right it is THE best pint of carling i have had. no doubt.

Good food. Good soft drink but the diet coke. tested like cheap diet coke. but a part from that Good pub .

I have called in for drinks when I’m in the town and it’s good. Staff are spot on and friendly. I was in a rush and stopped for a quick lunch and knew it wasn’t going to be great. But it was very bad. Chicken curry was frozen with awful rubbery meat, the rice was microwaved and bad. This was worse than a Asda meal. The lasagna was the same - just frozen slop with old salad. 0 for food but 2 for the nice staff.

my parents took our 2 daughters here the other day, both really enjoyed the food & the duty manager made them both a fantastic mocktail which they were absolutely delighted with, thank you for making them both feel special ♥️

The food portion is huge and the taste is out of this world! Love the half painted portraits on the walls.

We called in on a Wednesday lunch time, not too busy so we ordered two meals and drinks. Food was nice but a bit more effort needed on appearance, drink was OK only let down was tables were sticky to the touch.

Called here for breakfast as where we normally visit was closed First impressions were very good clean not many in so we had a good choice of tables and the staff seemed very nice that's the good part now to the cooked breakfast full English although it was hot it wasn't that good the sausage was very chewy ash browns seemed to be over cooked I don't think they should be part of the breakfast as they never were they are there just to fill the plate the mushrooms seemed to be out of a bag that was frozen and very bland we noticed another Three people leaving most of their breakfast I must say the presentation was very good I know things are quite difficult at the moment but they need the customers to come back unfortunately we won't be going back.

My first visit 4 years ago was great. However, when I visited yesterday, the music on the jukebox was WAY TOO LOUD. You had to really shout to talk to someone sat next to you and it was like being in a nightclub. Asking for the music to be turned down, I was greeted with "well we're having a live band later...but I'll try." I asked a different member of staff for a second time but they were unwilling to. Safe to say that unless staff are more considerate by turning the jukebox down so we can hear ourselves and enjoy our meal, I won't be returning. Other than that, the food was OK.

Started the night in here and was great with the drinks deals and quick service at the bar made the night even better

Probably in the day it might not be like this but come on Saturday night in there - bring your own toilet roll & hand sanitiser …. May aswell bring own drink - bar staff very slow The toilets are the worst I’ve seen anywhere - toilet metal door frame hanging off just above head height - what on Earth some one could have their eye out …. Unsanitary toilets, women don’t want to feel dirty whilst out on the town

Nice place to hang out, have a drink or a nice meal. Has a really good full English breakfast and its cheap.

Has gone expensive for a Yates'. Standard pub really.

We called in while we were shopping. Bumped into an old school friend so we stayed longer than expected. 😂😂. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.

The weekend offers a fantastic atmosphere with great music. There is always a party. Team are fantastic and always give great service. The place to go for a memorable night out.

The food is good in here, but what a complete renovation and upgrade this place now needs. The decor and seating is split and very shabby. The toilets are just filthy. Toilet seats missing, no toilet rolls and all feels so grubby and dirty. To how it used to be a few years back, it's a huge let down going back

Good location in Newcastle High Street. Drinks are a bit more expensive than Iron Monkey or Reflex. The crowd is also younger and expect a Q outside after 10pm ..

It was an amazong experience. Good quality food, value for money and most importantly, very friendly service by the staff. Definitely, another time.

Average pub fayre, chicken very watery but lovely chips. Small portions which suited me. Avoid the toilets which were very unpleasant.

Absolutely abysmal staff, rude and arrogant. Unhelpful and blamed us for ordering food on the app when they cleared the menus AFTER we had ordered on the app. Especially since it was 7pm and food is served until 9pm. The troglodyte who bought the food was really rude and agressive towards us. Hope she enjoys her sad little life in a horrible little town.

Went for boxing day festive menu great value, friendly staff and would recommend that you go for a down to earth and Harty food experience.

Owner is brilliant and staff are lovely, definitely try "overproof rum" wow... Sip it!

Very pleasant staff and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

Table booked for 5:30. It was originally 6 but due to a private event and having to leave at 8 the start time was pushed to 5:30. This was a Christmas meal and we had all pre ordered our food. The starters came at about 6:15. No major issues (vegan starters had to be requested as never showed up) - Mac and cheese bites were great though. The main did not start getting put out until 7 which when you are having three courses and told to leave by 8 this is where things get problematic. The majority of the food was cold / Luke warm and then they also ran out of gravy… weird when you have pre ordered all of your food. 7:30 and plates were cleared and desert brought out at about 7:40. This is where it was a diasaster. Some of the desert options were sold out… again when you pre order you kind of don’t expect this. Secondly, the deserts were a mixture of Luke warm and stone cold. The cookie apple pie. Some came out warm, some came out stone cold. The price for this was about £12 which you can’t complain too much but really, having the food you ordered and warm is kind of all you expect at a minimum.

Busy at times. New Kitchen Staff, so waiting times. All said, a nice place to visit. Polite Staff.

Excellent venue for our Christmas party (50 guests), given our own area of the bar, set up fantastically with full festive decor and accessories. Buffet was delicious (and lots of it), staff were excellent and everyone had a great night. Fantastic value for money all round, thoroughly recommend.

Been for lunch today. Had a turkey and ham pie with festive vedge and roast potatoes. The pie filling wasn't too bad. The vedge was hard ( peas and carrots) then I bit into a sprout they had obviously been standing in water. The roast potatoes were inedible, they were the same colour on the inside as the outside. I did tell the waitress and she said its the first Christmas dinner of the day, it seemed more like leftovers from yesterday. I thought someone may have come to apologise but no.

Absolutely disgusted!! Just been into Yates.. nothing for me to have apart from that vile macaroni cheese. Vegan/vegetarian selection is appalling.

Got ID'd going in here a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night! Age 38 haha made my night! Good range of drinks available, bot bad pricing. Good music, not too crowded when we went in. Stayed for a drink then moved on elsewhere

Cheap and cheerful and busy enough to have a bit of atmosphere during the day. Some seating out the front for the warmer days.

Had a Can of Red Stripe with a dash of lemonade. Excellent price. Nice atmosphere and professional service. The lighting in the venue was first and had no problem reading my newspaper.
