We meet regularly in The Sneyd Arms & decided to dine there in December. We were a group of 8 & were extremely well looked after by Stacey. We had ordered from both the Christmas & the ordinary menu and we were all pleased with our meals. Some pets will also have enjoyed their meal as there was plenty of turkey & some of it made its way into doggie bags. The atmosphere was pleasant, it wasn't too crowded & as we were a large group we created our own party spirit!

I recently went to a Birthday celebration party held at The Sneyd Arms the food that I chose the Root vegetable cottage pie was very good. It had a cosy atmosphere in the dining area and the staff were lovely we were served by Katie and Helen, also the bar staff in the Knights Templar function room were very friendly and helpful sorry I didn't get your names. I would use this venue again.

My wife and myself popped into the Sneyd Arms for a spot of lunch quite randomly, having not been in there for over 6 years, we were greeted by Helen, and, duly shown to our table, the pub was quite empty in the lounge, it has a very big lounge area. There was a fire lit in the front, it created a great welcoming ambiance, and the smell of the fire made the whole place feel very cosy. Our food was just perfect, very rustic in appearance, just how we like it, none of this pre formed, pre packed stuff. I chose the root veg pie and the wife had steak and ale pie, both absolutely beautiful, portions were perfect also. The bitter beer was spot on, nice temperature and well kept, wifey chose a Pinot, also spot on. We highly recommend this establishment, and we will return more often. Thank You... 5 Star experience.

Visit for evening meal with a booked table. Small free car park. Table service provided for drinks and food orders. On an early Saturday evening the two staff were stretched keeping all the tables served. Our food arrived, and was worth the wait. No heating on in the pub, so a little on the cool side of what you might expect. Food though was delicious and piping hot, chips are exceptional.

Held our engagement party at the knights Templar here last Saturday and what can I say - fabulous ! Staff were so attentive through the planning process, helped with all my questions and assisted with all queries on the day. Room was so easy to decorate and make our own with plenty of seating and room to dance. We opted to have the buffet which was a great hit, amazing selection and more than enough food to go round with plenty left over for people to take home. (Catered to allergies too). The DJ was also booked through the knights Templar, played what we requested and had songs to suit everyone though some requests on the evening he didn’t have in his library which is fair enough it didn’t spoil our evening. Lady working the bar did a great job of keeping everyone served with drinks from their well stocked bar. I would definitely book an event here again and recommend to all my family and friends

4 of us went here on Fri 30.8.24 - I had booked a table. One of the party arrived before I did and gave my name for the booking, she was told there was no such booking and there were no tables available all night, they were full. I met my friend on the carpark and we returned to the pub - we had a bizarre conversation with the girl who was on the 'meet & greet' lectern - I gave her my name & she responded by saying that 'no one of that name worked here' By now we should have realized!! We were sat down at our reserved table, given menus and asked for a drinks order which we did and that was fine. When she returned with the drinks she then informed us at to what 'wasn't' available - it would have been easier to tell us what was. Also, told that there was a 50 minute wait after ordering as there was only 1 chef on and they were short staffed......good of her to tell us! 1 of us is gluten intolerant but the server couldn't tell us what my friend needed to know - she did go and ask the chef who said have the burger, no bun and don't have the chips either, to be safe - at which point we did give up. We waited at the bar to pay for the drinks, no one came, my friend went and fetched someone who was waiting on - I would have just left, but by friend is too nice for that. I said to the lady how dreadful it was and she said she couldn't let us have the drinks, she was unable to make that kind of decision - I hadn't touched mine on principal and she still charged us - at which point I told her that was very poor!! She then said what she could do was give me a 25% voucher, if I wanted it - I took it, but told her I wouldn't be using it - I've passed it on, with a warning!! The whole experience was unfortunately a shambles

This pub used to be an amazing place for food, gatherings, chat etc. However not anymore. Frozen bag veg (undercooked) beef needs a steak knife to cut and fatty. Overall warmth of the dish cold, what’s going on guys. There was a time you could not get a table without booking and that’s not just in years past. It was hard to get a table after Sandra etc left as the standard was just as good. Such a shame, stayed a few hours and totally dead, no atmosphere at all. So sad to see.

Disappointing father's day. No mention of a father's day menu on the website at all so we assumed it was the Sunday menu being served. Arrived and they'd got a table booking wrong for a start which was fine as the restaurant was empty anyway. Sat down and we were given father's day menus with absolutely awful choices on - gammon, beef, fish or chestnut roast? As someone who eats none of those options, I couldn't eat here, and my sister, who is veggie, despises chestnuts so couldn't eat anything either!! We had to get up and walk away, leaving us with nowhere to go because every other pub had advertised properly and were fully booked. Not how I wanted to treat my dad at all and I certainly won't be back.

Mothering Sunday 2024 The positives: - greeted by a lovely lady & given a bunch of daffodils, nice touch - clean cutlery, food served on hot plates - no issues with drinks orders - steak pie was good (no suggestion of Stilton however), as was the vegetarian pie The sad negatives: - long waits for food after order - only 2 starters from 3 delivered - mushrooms looked unappetising being served in a thin, grey sauce and tasting very sour - pie & mash arrived as pie & chips, starter finally arrived with vegetarian main & when cod mornay arrived it had roasted potatoes instead of chips, a melted cheese topping rather than a cheese and spinach sauce, overcooked fish & burnt green veg All in all, not the lovely celebration it was meant to be, especially having driven from Leicester & having heard such great things about this place. In their defence, a large part of the bill was deducted, and I feel for the lovely lady who served us, I just hope her day got better. The place itself is very tired and in need of some tlc, especially the toilets.

My cousin and I were delighted to stop at Sneyd Arms on a drive and a catch up. I had previously visited on a weekend when this place was heaving with customers, but on this Wednesday lunchtime it was relatively quiet. We enjoyed a special offer of two sandwiches for £20 which was a bargain as both our delicious, hot sandwiches came with the most delicious, home made chips, coleslaw and a varied and colourful salad. Stacey, who looked after us, was just lovely and it was a pleasure to meet her and to visit this historical pub. I am looking forward to returning with my partner in the near future.

We visited for Pie Night. I had the steak and ale pie and my partner had the veggie pie which is more like a cottage pie. Both were delicious and came in their own oven tin dishes. The steak pie had a good amount of meat inside and the gravy was tasty. My partner said she liked the veggie pie and would have it again! The homemeade chips were gorgeous and the veg was nice, if a tad under-cooked but not by much. The meals each came with a small gravy jug and that gravy was lovely too. We drank Cruzcampo lager which is our favourite but the price here is a bit expensive and at the top end of what you would pay. The downside to the visit was the 35 minute waiting time, but we were told the pub's main oven was broken and they were relying on a smaller one. We'll forgive the waiting time as the food was so nice and we'll definitely visit again for 2-4-1 Pie Night

It was 2 for 1 offer pie night. We ordered a steak pie and the fish pie. Chips were beautiful. The steak pie was packed with nice steak chunks and the gravy was nice and tasty. The fish pie was a let down. The menu stated cod and haddock. However, there was no mention of prawns. Not allergic (thanksfully) but really don't get on with prawns. If there had been one or two that's ok but there were loads. We like our veg al dente but on both it was seriously under cooked. We will consider eating there again but no fish pie and a meal without veg will be ordered. Such a shame as it is a lovely place.

We had lunch here on Friday 6th October, whilst on a visit to see our son at the nearby Keele University. It’s a lovely pub, in a beautiful village, and the food was very good. I had the steak pie, it was just the ticket. What’s prompted me to leave a review, however, was the exceptional service we received from Rachel. Although she was on her own, whilst we were there, she was; kind, helpful, friendly, organised, efficient, and in total control. She even found time to offer our son some friendly advice as he settles into University life (she is also a student, when not working at the pub). Hi we visited the pub for an afternoon meal together, having searched around for local places to eat, we decided on the Sneyd Arms because some of the family visited and said it was good. Having arrived and found a table the staff were attentive and welcoming, however after getting our drinks we ordered food, then proceeded to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for the food to arrive, the pub was not that busy we did however overhear other customers were not happy about the time it took to get their food, the staff in the pub seemed on edge and nervous, as the situation was not isolated just to one customer. After waiting then prompting one of the team, she called the kitchen and 5 mins later the food arrived in the lift, this was served to the table, there was an item missing so another call, and then it arrived, my wife had ordered the cod, although the food was hot the cod was clearly overcooked, we were asked if the food was ok and my wife pointed out the issue, we were offered a replacement but my wife did not want one, I have pointed out the correct processes followed by your team, but wanted to post this review that you may correct your issues with quality and service time. We like most families do not have a massive disposable income, so eating out is a very occasional event that we want to have a good experience, unfortunately you have not delivered on this and it is very disappointing.

On entering we ordered drinks at our table before ordering food, when they came mine was cloudy so sent it back, it happens so wasn’t that bothered, then the food arrived tasted ok but wasn’t hot, then we ordered dessert, was asked if we wanted cream ice cream or custard, asked for cream, it came with ice cream, “ It says ice cream on the menu “ said the waitress, ok so why did you offer cream? Then the bill came, it included the pint that was sent back, got that removed and they gave us one dessert free. It’s a pub that serves drinks and food, they failed miserably.

Hired out the pub’s side building, ‘The Knights Templar’ for a family party. They did catering for us. The venue was great, so was the food and it was good value for money. We enjoyed ourselves and the staff was friendly and so accommodating. Thanks James.

Delicious freshly cooked food served outside at a country pub. Perfect. !! We rocked up without booking early afternoon and ordered 2 sandwiches off the lite bites menu (vampire slayer cajun chicken) which came with fries and salad and we ordered extra onion rings. Every part of the lunch was cooked to perfection.

It’s a shame the Sneyd Arms has got to do so badly on food and I know there are more costs for pubs now to cope with but if they can’t get a good chef then I suppose the custom will drop off and things will only get worse. I had the Gammon Slices with and the egg was only slightly cooked. The chips were soggy too.

We visit The Sneyd Arms most Saturdays, approx 2pm and have lunch and a couple of drinks, 3 of us. The boys play pool while I enjoy the sports tv and also the visiting pooches that are welcomed. The food is delicious and the young girl behind the bar always looks after us. But,,, I’m sad to say,,, that today, along with the lovely girl behind the bar was a young girl whom, shall we say,,, truly upset us when we left. We always set up a tab and pay before we leave. We did so today, as always, and in front of a full bar the other girl decided to shout from across a full room as we left,,,, ermmmm… have you paid your tab??? Yes, we replied then left,, embarrassed and also annoyed at her complete and utter rudeness! We’re now not too sure if we want to return….

Not great really tables were sticky, ordered chips they were good but took nearly an hour and its not like it was even busy. Staff took time to serve rather talk to each other than doing thier jobs. Will not be coming back anytime soon.

Stunning old pub in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme. It had a decent atmosphere, even at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon, with friendly staff and a coal and wood fire at opposite ends in huge, traditional fireplaces. It's a Joules brewery pub, with Pale, Blonde, Slumbering Monk, and their lager - all of which are well priced and pleasant. Bear in mind it is cash only, though Lloyds Bank has cash points 30 second down the ginnel opposite.
