Food was not 5 star, though for me and my family it was exactly what the doctor ordered: generous portions, good tasting fare and, ....the price was very reasonable. Most of all, the chef and his daughter were so friendly, that we had a good natter with them were he explained some of the acts and singers performing there at times. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Btw, a bottle of wine was included within the total price of £48.- feeding 4 of us! Thank You, Chef

Me and my friend took our little girls after a play date and had a lovely variety on the kids menu for them and the paninis were delicious, as we're the chips! Atmosphere was great and staff were so lovely and smiley to our little girls as well! We will be back regularly I think :)

A Lovely Place to eat in town. Food is always spot on, usually order a breakfast when we visit which we really enjoy. Owner is lovely, friendly & always out the front so it’s nice to be able to have a chit chat.

Absolutely first class in every way...... Bacon and cheese oatcakes are perfect and their club sandwich is the best ever. Staff are brilliant and friendly. Cannot fault this place... Thank you so much 😊.

Just want to say how much our group ( front table) enjoyed our evenings entertainment for the Boy George/Pink Elvis night. A first visit for many of us... we thoroughly enjoyed the tribute act.. from make up.. clothes..voice.. sharp wit and sheer professionalism. We were up and dancing from the word go.. even doing the boy George conga outside onto the bricks of Newcastle Town!!! May I also say how lovely the home cooked food was... the ambience and hard work to provide a seamless nights enjoyment.... Oscars is a unique establishment.. much more personable..nothing like the cattle market venues that serve poor quality food on mass...over inflated bar prices and naff disco. Probably one of the best Christmas parties I've had the pleasure to attend in over 30 years! Thank you Oscars!! We'll be back in a few months. Xxx

Brilliant food always get a good welcome from owner

I had a large breakfast, the worst breakfast I’ve had in Newcastle under Lyme, tinned tomatoes and tinned mushrooms, I would expect a quality breakfast to have fresh ingredients, I will not be going back.

If I could give more than 5 stars I really would! Warm and welcoming, staff were polite and friendly. The staff laughed and joked with customers. The food tasted amazing and was well presented. I would definitely recommend Oscars if you're in town.

Oscors is a quint place good host friendly service owner is always good with customer service other resturants could learn from this place its also good place to visit so people get to know each other. For a small business it is a place to visit so if you are in newcastle pop say hi to the owner nothing is to much trouble for you. And the owner graig has a cheerful welcome for you visit oscors today. The food is British whole hearty food.it is a bistro resturant food is good and when you visit again oscors will be on your mind so tell your friends and also has events on judge for yourself pop in

Visited Oscar’s for the first time this morning to celebrate my birthday with a full English breakfast and experienced the best cooked breakfast of my life. I asked for a poached egg instead of fried and it came perfect. Very good value for money and it came with a free hot drink.

Visited Oscar's on Tuesday while attending funeral in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Cannot speak highly enough of this little gem. Staff could not have been more attentive and pulled out all the stops to make sure we were well fed and in time for the funeral.Great food and staff we would not hesitate to recommend.

Visited on Friday evening shortly after opening time and it quickly became busy. A very basic setting but the staff were very friendly. The service was excellent and the meal was amazing I would highly recommend a visit.

Visited Oscars several times with a Wowcher and the food has always been amazing and such a good deal on Wowcher,2 meals for 2 for £12.00, tonight however was not so good! The food has gone terribly down hill and tastes of nothing,the rump steaks were as flat as pancakes and had no taste and the chips were undercooked! Glad I had the voucher but I won’t be buying another one off Wowcher

Been a few times now, always with a wowcher voucher. Ignore the website, they are open every evening apart from Thursdays. We both had the barbecue chicken wings for starters, very tasty and cooked to perfection. We both had the rump steak for main. Cooked very well, exactly as requested. The chips were fluffy crispy potato loveliness! Service was quick, friendly and welcoming. I love the decor here, unique! I had a veloceraptor coming through the wall by me, and my mum had a picture of dolly parton on her wall.Not a big choice, but for the price and the quality of the food served it's very good.We'll definitely go again.

Would rate here as good but couldnt see an option for this.On entering with my friend was tempted to walk out ,only because of the dated decor, was here years ago when the tables had crisp white tablecloths on.The gent who greeted us was cheerful ,the food pretty basic choices eg fish and chips ,panninis etc we had jacket potato ,mine was with chilli and chees ,the chilli appeared home made and was tasty. Whilst not the poshest of places to eat it doesnt break the bank and Ive paid more for lesser tasty food .Ok for a bite to eat if you are not in too much of a hurry.Staff were cheery and pleasant and the place seems to have its regular clientelle.

I went this evening with a voucher. My partner and I had barbecue chicken wings to start which were very tasty and with a crispy skin which wings need. The barbecue sauce was delicious and portion size was more than ample. The sauce was so good it had to be homemade.

Well brought a woucher code for me and the husband called them on several occasions over five weeks for a day and they could never accommodate. on the one date they had available (tonight) I phone them to confirm the booking time to be told they are shut because hes going to a party. Told me it was a booking for the following week I know it wasn't for the following week because my husband does nights and hes working and I wouldn't of booked plus id put it on my calander so told them to shove it. So please be careful when booking and make sure you phone the day you are attending because id had a taxi booked and would of turned up to an empty restaurant or better still don't bother the reviews are shocking anyway

It’s been a long time since We had eaten here, it must be well over 15yrs and it will be another 15 before we come back!It seemed that almost every customer paid with a Groupon or other voucher so the place was busy and the food cheap. But that does not excuse the service or the food quality. On entering I felt as if I had been stuck in time as it was exactly the same. Drab, dowdy, clean and very very dated. If this place aims at the cheap voucher wielding customer not expecting much it has hit the bullseye. Such a shame as we were expecting a high quality meal but did not get it.

Groupon voucher so cheap meal...but wish hadn't made the effort to travel there. Food very processed, very dated decor, in need of tablecloths and owner hovered over us just waiting for us to leave! Wouldn't waste time or money going again.

Not even worth 1 star I have to put to continue. The food is extortionately priced and is worse quality than a greasy spoon. The food at Wetherspoon's is more palatable and that's cheap so allowed to be crap. Also with the layout of the place I felt like I was eating in the back kitchen of a Macdonald's! I wouldn't feed my dog the food they gave me.

Having now read a lot of the previous reviews, I can see exactly where they're coming from. I'd never visited Oscar's before, my wife a couple of times about 15-20 years ago and it probably hasn't changed much! So, I agree with other reviewers, in need of an update, particularly the cafe-style tables and chairs.

As the only days they open in the evening are Friday and Saturday this means you can't use the vouchers any time since they are only valid Sunday to Thursday. So we have just just overpaid restaurant prices for cheap food in a canteen style cafe. Not impressed! For the money paid we could have had a better meal in far nicer surroundings in several other places in town.

I would love to book a table here but it's impossible when u can't get hold of anybody I've been ringing for days and your greeted with a voicemail asking you to leave details ,not good if you have questions to ask and no reply on emails

Been to Oscars on a couple of occasions and it’s always been a good meal. We went on a Groupon voucher but would have payed full price without a doubt. It is a back street cafe but that adds to it’s attraction. The food was excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone. I’m very disappointed that three women on the adjacent table were loud and complaining about their food, they ate it all but wanted a discount too. Well done to the staff who handled it, I wouldn’t have been so calm in that situation.....

Known Craig & Oscars for over 25 yrs and its always been the best place for me to eat in Newcastle - never go anywhere else. Thanks Craig its always fun xx

We went here as part of a Groupon offer. The restaurant was closed when we arrived for our evening early table. There had been a break from being open for lunch and I think they were a bit unprepared.

We got the voucher from Wowcher which was for 2 burgers & 2 sides. The guy on the phone was very helpful and plesant, as was the waitress. Unfortunately there is nothing else positive to say. On a Fri night we were the only people there which speaks volumes. The places smells of old fat & fry ups and just feels dead. Unfortunately it is just not set up to be an evening resturant. The decor looks old and it feels untidy with cleaning products on show and boxes in the corridors. Worse than this thought, the food was just awful.

We had a Groupon offer and what we had was nice. The chips were the nicest i had had in a while! We have been to Oscars many times before and nothing has changed!!!! Apart from the tables and chairs which made it more like a cafe than a restaurant! I really do think it needs up dateing, especially the stairs and carpet!! The lady that served us was very friendly and helpful but a bit unnerving as she seemed to watch over us all evening. I think a visit from Gordon Ramsey is needed.

In the centre of town, good basic menu with specials each day. Cooked to order. Good sized portions.Quick and efficient service. Sociable staff.

Went to Oscars with the use of a Groupon. We went as a group of 8 and we had a nice time. It isn’t the Ritz but the food was really good. Service was good by a chap called Ryan.

Great little restaurant hidden in a little side street/access . Serves very good food. It's low key, dress down and has a great big dalek on site. Been three times now and will be going again.

I am going Oscars on Sat to see Freddie mercury tribute it's a fantastic nite only 22.50 for a 2 course meal including 2 hours of live music. The singer is brilliant he also does a bon Jovi tribute as well Craig the manager does a great job Oscars is well worth ba visit can't wait.

Top quality food and excellent service would highly recommend

We were given a token for a meal out at Christmas, but delayed the visit till March. Unfortunately the weather was very much against us and we were glad to find this place on a side alley to get out of the biting wind!

Before and After.Steak just okay, had veins in it which made it tough. Ordered medium-well done with no pink, it arrived pink. Great for a woucher deal, but wouldn't come and pay full price for it.

Best breakfast in all of Newcastle by far! Plus there's a good variation of other meals too chose from on the menu. I like the club sandwich myself if I'm not having a breakie

Had a good T.Bone steak reasonably priced friendly staff a small venue that could do with a generous amount of tlc but really worth a visit my only advice would be is that maybe a more varied menu

If like me, you have purchased a Groupon voucher in the belief that you’ll be visiting a glitzy ‘restaurant’ and that the food will be presented in the ‘artsy’ manner fit for the stars as shown on the professional photograph used on the advert, then think again....you my friend will have been well and truly duped. The first thing that hits you on entering this ‘restaurant’ is the greasy cafe / school canteen ambience... the walls are adorned with an array of pictures of stars from the U.K. TV hall of fame (not quite Oscar material me thinks), this ‘themed bling’ is maybe there to transform the juxtaposed look of the cheap tables and chairs. The toilets are shabby and on a par with an old boozer from a by-gone best forgotten age...definitely not for your A-listers. The menu is somewhat limited but the food however, wasn’t bad...for a fillet steak though we had to upgrade for an extra £7 each...this was cooked well and came with some nicely done home made chips...the side salad was a token gesture that lacked imagination...the drinks were overpriced e.g. £4 for a shandy and £5 for a Gin, that came ice-free due to having none available...incidentally we were the first customers to arrive that evening. The service was ok, the host quirky...will I be going again? Doubt it

We went to Oscars as a family of 8. We used the Groupon voucher but paid the extra for fillet and t bone steaks. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and more than willing to help and the drinks aren’t over priced either. We will go back and wouldn’t be bothered about paying without the Groupon the food was so good.

Brill service very friendly, good food x great coffee

We came with two friends. Steaks were not that good mine was very chewy one of us asked for our steak to be medium. It came well done. We made a comment to the waitress who came back with an apology but no sign of the the chef. If you want a good night out with good food. Give this one a miss. Would have prefered to have given a good one but there you have it.
