Lovely pub friendly locals lovely staff

Over 15 years since I've been in the bull ,proper old worldy pub , beer was spot on 🍻👍2 fires roaring away loved it , staff were friendly and the toilets spotless , shall be definitely having another visit when I'm back up town 😀 👍 🍻🍻

We enjoyed a couple of hours singing on the karaoke , great crowd and staff . Ken the DJ is a lovely chap we will definitely come again!! P.S It's cash only

What a wonderful surprise this was! Myself and my friend were mid pub crawl when we stumbled upon one of the best atmospheres at a pub in Newcastle I have seen for years. Staff were extremely welcoming and made us feel like part of a big family from the get go. We will 100% be back a brilliant night with some rather brilliant fellow pub goers.

me very disapointed i goed to dis pub and me no like very bad service and they rude. toilet very stinky they only serve toilet water and poridge [very stinky] bad floor and i dont liked and i dont rekomend!

Decent old pub in the centre of town, cash only

I really liked this pub. The bar had tons of character, obviously it's an old building and the period features were there in abundance. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming. A really charming old pub, if it wasn't 90 miles from home, I would gladly adopt it as my local.

Went after doing some great pubs came here at the end of the night. Karaoke not my normal cup of tea. Everyone staff and public were so fun. It was great. Woke up with loads of pictures of strangers. What a nice atmosphere. Shame the only do cash but understand why.

Lively atmosphere, lots of regulars, friendly staff, doesn't do vard payments.

Old fashioned pub, beams, fireplace, circa 18th Centuary. Serving Joules real ales, plus a selection of good wine, Lager and cider large selection of gin and other spirits. Does not serve food but you are welcome to bring your own in. Friendly staff and landlord usually a good atmosphear. Still the same.

Duff pint and open wood burner. Who needs the smoking ban?

Cracking pub. Log fire, music, tv, real friendly atmosphere. Good beer. Fair prices. Doesn’t take card atm so bring cash.

Went in for a lunchtime pint, BIG MISTAKE!!, there was a bulldog type, attacking , sniffing, growling, running up and down the bar ? What a crowd puller, I’ve ventured in there for 50 years. I think it will be another 50. Times for business is hard, ???

Oldest pub in town. Quiet and pleasant. Fair selection of ales and spirits. Karaoke and DJ at weekends. Quiet little pub during the weekday, perfect for a drink and a good book! Most pleasant and friendly bar staff. Certainly one of the better pubs in town.

Popped in there for a spot of lunch while my son was visiting the village. I’ve been to this place before so was more than happy to pay another visit. Been a lunchtime the weather was lovely and there wasn’t many people around. The service was quick and the food arrived soon after. I ordered the steak sandwich with beef dripping sauce and it was delicious. I would go back and have This sandwich again. If it wasn’t as windy as it was on the day I would’ve sat outside because the atmosphere would’ve been lovely and relaxing.

Great night on the karaoke, lovely crowd. Be aware if you go that they only take cash payments, but there's a cash point round the corner so it's easy to get cash out.

Happy to be barred. Nice of you to tell me though considering i've been in 3 times since the incidense happened 3 ages ago. Rather than tell me you got your female bouncer on the door to let me know. If you had asked me I would have told you I was having major hip surgery at the time hence why I collapsed and other troubles but its your pub. Basically after 22 years of drinking in there I aren't stepping foot in the place again and can kiss my arse. Used to be a good pub years ago.

A pint by an open fire... Magic

we called in to have some real cider (old Rosie), it tasted awful, caustic, fizzy and clear, nothing like old Rosie. We took our pints back to the bar and were offered the same again or Thatchers. We left leaving our drinks as they tasted horrible. No refund offered, or any apology/ excuse. Will not visit again.

It serves Joules excellent beer. That's all.

After a few disappointing visits we called in for a beer last weekend Noticeable changes and for the better still a lovely real fire for the winter month and Joules No 6 is on for the winter too - a lovely pint. Lets hope the changes made by management / staff are maintained , as they definitely make for a much pleasanter visit, and make you want to return as opposed to on previous occasions , stay away.

Great place for a nice real ale (Joules Brewery) in a VERY oldy worldy setting. In the winter the log burning stove is a very welcome break from the cold. Small outdoor seating area for smoking and coal storage does it job. If you're tall mind your head. Always an eclectic mixture of drinkers!

A pub in Newcastle, new people in now, didn't like the atmosphere, still good ale.

Proper pub. Everyone is friendly and a good mix of people. You have to do the disco on a friday night its a good laugh and the staff are brilliant. Made me feel so welcome.

Compared to the raft of modern craft bars and micro pubs that have opened in NuL in recent years you cannot get more traditional than the Old Bulls Head. The dark low hanging beams, the quarry tiled and wooden flooring, the period fireplace with large opulent mirror above and quant snug section of this reportedly oldest drinking establishment in NuL are all decent period features remaining in this fine coaching Inn. Then plenty of Joules brewing memorabilia dotted about the place and some humour shown in the sign directing you towards the sun drenched beer garden only for you to find one of the smallest enclosed outside courtyard drinking areas to be found in any pub. My half of Slumbering Monk was perfectly fine but I am not a great fan of Joules beers so it was a bit disappointing to find no guest ales on for our visit. And no sweary customers were in situ for our visit, but then we did visit during the lunchtime.

Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and affordable drinks. I've been visiting for the open mic night every other Thursday, which is just so much fun.

Like being in a country pub but in the heart of Newcastle.. Had a great night. 👍

Staffing issues are apparent ..members of staff some very pleasant and others that encourage the bad behaviour and foul mouths of some of the customers .the place seems to be run by customers not management .any nobody wants to say a word to them so its all excepted .

A proper little boozer in the centre of town

Since our last visit we have seen the pub go down hill significantly - the people drinking in there are allowed to use bad language , without being told ; the drunken rowdy behaviour has definitely changed the type of people who choose to drink here Whereas once we would have stopped for a couple of drinks , and taken friends here, now we call in - sometimes we don't even stop for a drink, sometimes we have a drink and leave ; definitely hit and miss. Couldn't recommend from recent experiences

Could be a nice traditional town centre pub, alas last Friday when my wife and I visited the few customers included a drunken old crone & a mouthy yob shouting a conversation to each other...to make matters worse the landlady (?) was ineffectually trying to disguise the fact that she was drunk, the landlord was scruffy and unshaven..they have a great coal fire though. Sadly the brewery aren't interested.

A cracking traditional style pub, a great crowd and a good selection of ales, spirits and wines.

Just had to leave. Foul person at the bar threatening to knock people out & rip fu**in' face off. Disgusting yob. Will be giving that place a wide berth from now on. Wish the staff had acted in the face of such behaviour.
