yates. what a classic. seriously, it's an absolute classic and staple of newport's mean streets, but it's time to mourn the sad death of yates as it is being replaced by a new restaurant of the same franchise owners.i went to yates recently but i am very sad to hear it is shutting down. value was special. food was special. everything else was a little special, it was sort of like a sprinkle of specials all around since it did have a good place in mon heart.very sad to hear it is shutting down. hacked off at whoever made the decision. bun them fully, bun them 100 and 10 percent.

I booked table for 20 for a Birthday. The staff decorated the table and our {very large} family ordered everything from kids meals to mocktails to bottles of wine. Nothing was too much trouble, very caring staff and the food was all good quality. Lots of fun, lots of meals all ordered at once and everything was hot and fresh. I will be going again.

Visited IOW last weekend. Went to yates every day for breakfast. The food was amazing and very reasonable could not fault it. Service was great too. So if you visit IOW this is the place to go for excellent food at a great price

Nice bar / grand cafe. Normally I only had some beers and some small bites. Service is nice, and beers are cold. Also good visited by the locals. One of the few places where good looking local girls are coming.

I went in there to meet a few friends after work, as they like it in there, I wasn't overly kin, but I was meeting up with friends. I had chicken in barbeque sauce and bacon., the chicken was to dry to eat and the chips,under cooked, the peas tasted like rubber. Took far to long to come. But the chocolate pudding made up for the horrible tasting chicken dinner. Food looks like its been difrosted and microwaved 3 times over. Not very nice. When we asked them why it was taking soo long, they seem like they didn't care and it wasn't even bussy.Want be coming back here in a hurry.

Do końca nie wiem czy to jest bar, jadłodajnia czy miejsce dla dzieci. Wystrój sugeruje, że jest to miejsce dla dorosłych, rura, parkiet, bar, alkohol. Lecz widząc bawiące się dzieci, matki z wózkami, ludzie na "rodzinnym" obiedzie i dużo starszych osób to sama już nie wiem czy jest to miejsce odpowiednie do picia piwa i spotkań ze znajomymi. Jest to knajpa bez jakiegokolwiek klimatu, muzyka nie leci albo leci bardzo cicho, słychać tylko gwar i .... dzieci. Jedyne co jest znośne to jedzenie, faktycznie nie było najgorsze.

Great place for cheap lunches. Quite dark inside but fairly good atmosphere. Bar is well stocked. Toilets upstairs but a disabled toilet downstairs with key behind the bar.

Used this for 5 evening in a row, one night went before 6 and there were kids and they were running around,other night went after 7 and was relaxing,staff were very friendly,best bit was food offer was 1/2 price and nice food will be going again

Food was lovely the staff over the festival were fab all the girls who worked hard to feed and keep everyone happy and we got to charge our phones too!!...👍 thankyou!!.

Go in the evening and it just seems full of Newport low-lives and Kestrel super lager drinkers. Every wall has a telly showing ads and silly kids music video that just gets harder to shout over as the evening goes on

I enjoyed watching Premier League news whilst enjoying an ample portion of fish 'n chips served with peas. I skipped the alcohol for a cuppa.The prices are reasonable, toilets clean, and there are plenty of screens, including a large projection set up. Nearby a family enjoyed fish 'n chips as well -- appears to be family friendly. There is outdoor seating as well.

Awful... screaming kids and single mums. Food on the floor and sticky tables ...seats near the window smelt like someone had urinated in them. Never been to one before . Not again. Cheap I guess.

Went here for the first time in years coz being skint in January as everyone is they did the half price after 3pm deal and to be fair the food we had on the 3 visits during january couldn't fault it hope they keep it up as a couple years back it wasn't pretty awful keep up the good work

after a terrible experience at the new 'upmarket' All bar one in Southampton yesterday I thought a cheaper lunch at Yates would be ideal. I had a brilliant sharing platter with amazing pork, 2 styles of chicken, creamy coleslaw, mac n cheese on chips and mini greek wraps. My Girlfriend had the massive full English plus we had hot drinks and cold soft drinks all for £20.our table was dirty but apart from that the service was quick and friendly and we couldn't help but be impressed by the food.

Typical Yate's. Good pricing on food and drinks. Service is outstanding and friendly 5*. General place is tired and grubby and toilets are Grim. Great deals on food. TV on and as long as free view they will change the channel for you.

Ambiance très sympa avec des écrans tv qui retransmettent le sport en général, nous avons adoré siroter deux excellents cocktails. Et nous avons profité de manger sur place, vaste choix sur la carte. Prix corrects.

We always enjoy our meals at Yates. They are really great value. Most times all meals are half price so you can't go wrong. Must admit they could do with some new tables and chairs to tidy it up a bit. But we go quite a lot for family does and the food is very good. Greta coburn.

Here you are able to purchase 2 meals for a small price, which are extremely tasty and hot. There are different topics each day for lunchtime meals. Very quick with then order and nice staff.

Been to Yates a few times for food, and I have always had good quality food and brilliant prices and sizes! Some of my friends and family, have said they've had a couple bad meals, but I think iv always been lucky! And I will be returning !

This is an OK place for less discerning people. It is dark dismal and the chairs are filthy the floor you stick to. Food is poor. Not recommended for anyone wanting a nice quiet pleasant meal be it lunchtime or evening. Evenings are even worse.

We go there at least once a month for a family dinner, the food is good and staff are friendly.I think its value for money and it has a nice atmosphere.

the food is a good standard, its clean and cheap, with friendly staff and a good selection of meals, deserts and drinks. there is wifi also and a paper if you fancy a read, or large screen s to take in the news..sport..ect.

Booked an area for a hen do here and had a fantastic night. Can't rate Reece (or Rhys) highly enough. All the staff were great but he couldn't have done more to help. Helped make the night.

Food was served quickly and was hot. We were served by Sasha who was very chatty and friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. She removed plates quickly after main and served desert. Highchair was available for grandchild who was happy playing with his cars and more than wiling to share them with Sasha who took a interest in him. Will definately be returning for another visit.

Good food, half price with good customer service from Sasha. Worth a visit especially if you are treating your family or friends on a budget.

Ohhhmy goodness, popped in for a checky burger before heading out for the night... well had a fantastic meal, then a couple of chasers followed by shots at the bar. Joe the barman looked after us like we were royalty from start to finish.... didnt make it to the cinema but had an A* night courtesy of yates IOW best holiday ever

Pooped in for the 50% off food and the food was good, edible and actually quite tasty! I'm not sure how you can do a large mixed grill the way it was served for less than a fiver!? They pulled it outta the bag though! was served by a tall copper headed lad.. He was helpful, and very polite with a good sense of humour. I'll be coming back with the wife!

We are here multiple times on our trip to the Isle of Wight! It was great as they had 50% off food which made it very well priced! I enjoyed the food and so did my partner!

50% off food so had two starters, two mains and two drinks for a grand total of £15!! That's crazily good value and the food isn't bad either! Well worth going if you're on a budget... staff are great as well!

On holiday for a week on the IOW twice have visited here as after 3pm you get 50% off the bill. Wasn't expecting much, but food came out in big portions, nicely cooked, also lovely service and friendly staff. Im sure we will visit again before we go home, one of the cheapest places to eat on the island.£12 for all food in picture and 2 pints of coke

Came here with a friend or mine for a casual dinner, was not very impressed with the customer service and despite being practically empty we had to wait a long time for our food. The food however was very nice, hot and exactly what I expected. Due to the current 50% off all food it was incredibly cheap too. Worth the money you pay but would definitely only recommend for a quick and causal thing, not a proper dinner!

Came in for dinner during the week with a few friends. The food menu is 50% off between 3-9pm meaning the food was amazing value for money. Good sized portions left us all feeling full by the end. The offer of 2 4 1 cocktails persuaded a few of us to treat ourselves. The cocktails were well made & brought to the table.Excellent friendly service at great prices. Will definitely be back soon.

We went here last weekend on a cocktail making evening.Started with free "bubbles": actually a 5% Perry which most of us chucked back into the ice bucket. A complimentary "jam jar cocktail" was then served ; literally served in a jam jar containing jam. This was pretty awful too and again most of us left it.The cocktail making was fun, Rob very patient with us messing around a bit. I would say however, the choice was very limited and all but one were very sweet.The food was not to great apart from the chicken strips which were apparently very nice.Unfortunately the whole place was pretty dire. The floor was extremely sticky as well as the seats in their VIP area, and the toilets were disgusting.We decided not to stay on for the disco.Thankfully we made the best of it and had a good evening. However, we will all be giving Yates a wide bearth in future.

Just been to the Isle of wight festival, and decided to head into newport on the first day and stumbled upon this Yates. We had breakfast there every morning whilst charging our phones and it really is the best yates I've visited. Food was great and cheap, staff were brilliant and on the Friday we even got to spend some time up on the roof top terrace listening to some really good live music. All in all great value for money and will definitely be visiting again next time we're down there.

Stopped in here twice during the festival, with 50% off all food Sunday-Thursday the prices were so low we couldn't walk past.Ate a Giant mixed grill and Chicken red pepper couscous with 2 pints for about £12! Service was friendly and food was served quickly. Sure it won't be winning any Michelin stars but if you're hungry and on a budget you can't fault it!

I often eat at Yate's in Newport as the staff are friendly, the meals are superb, the prices are excellent. This time I was on my own and I never go into a pub normally on my own, but I don't feel out of place here. I dined there 2 nights running and the staff were very welcoming

This was our first visit to Yates but would certainly return. A large glass of wine was half the price elsewhere. We had 2 excellent meals for £7.99 at 7pm, not as if it was an afternoon deal. The tables could do with replacing, but nicely spaced apart.

Came in as A last resort but was really pleased we did, had e big breakfast £4:45 for 2 sausages, 2 bacon rashers, 2 eggs, tomato, mushroom, toast and either chips or hash browns. Also a free tea or coffee,Service was brilliant and quick and the breakfast really good, definitely coming back again

Went here for lunch on Friday afternoon, the staff is friendly and the food was delicious. Very cheap for food and drinks. Will definitely be back.We recommend this place

Good food at good price but place needs refurbishing. Not all staffs are friendly. And power went out twice on a recent visit, not nice. Too many families with young kids and so it is not a very relaxing place to eat.

We visited this place this week when I made it to the bar after walking across the sticky floor felt I was walking in treacle I was met by the manager Pete who seemed very friendly .ordered a drink for my self and a coffee for my partner she said he would bring the coffee over 20 minutes went passed and still no coffee by this time Pete the manager had disappeared so I went to the bar and complaining why hasn't my coffee arrived Rebecca another member of staff said oh that will be Pete he useless when it comes to remembering things like that and gave me my coffee . So went back to the bar and ordered a double vodka and Coke and a double vodka and orange .i clearly seen Rebecca only putting vodka in to one glass when I question this she immediately tasted it and said sorry about that I will get you a new one so clearly was trying to rip me of . Then 10 minutes later Pete the manager came over to me and gave me £20 worth of vouchers as a way of gilt and we duly spent them knowing we would never return to this place again .so just a word of warning if you order any sprits make sure you physically pour them into your glass because otherwise you will only be getting a soft drink for a fiver .

Well, the furniture is tired and the tables are sticky, but the staff are friendly, it's warm and the food is good - amazing value too with everything at half price! We had two drinks and two huge steak dinners for £10.05 followed by two puddings for about £1.25 each. Can't argue with that!

Having visited this Yates previously we were looking forward to a family lunch - unfortunately we walked out after a few minutes. We did literally stick to the floor, the carpets were disguistingly dirty, the tables had very litlle varnish on them and the two tables we tried to sit at were wobbly and frankly reading for the dump. The overall state of the place is tired, we didn't bother to complain, as we didn't see any staff and swiftly moved on!

You stick to the floor . No bar staff around food diabolical. None of the staff can cook in there and there only to microwave the food. This pub is more like a nursery for single mothers and screaming kids. You have been warned

I was in here the other Saturday with friends, we didn't eat, but felt I had to review as there was one incident that shocked me. We were stood close to where the door staff checked the validity of various forms of ID using a scanner. I noticed a that at least 2 peoples ID came up with a huge cross, obviously stating that this ID was either invalid or a forgery, the doorman (he obviously knew the 2 people), quite happily let them in.What is the point in having such a system if the doormen don't use it? I would urge the management to look at their procedures.

Great to eat during the day, noisy and blaring music at the weekends. Newport is not a great place on Friday & Saturday nights. Very troublesome at times. As with most major towns. Can be scary if your on your own.

Reviewed this place about 18 months ago on TA, with a average rating , at best, has to be said.I went in here a couple of evenings ago for a bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised.Sunday-Thursday, all day, food is half price, which I was not aware of till i got in there, or might have tried it out sooner tbh.I ordered the 6oz Burger with chips, a side of chicken wings in BBQ sauce and pint of Fosters, total bill came to like 8 quid with the half price offer.. So pricewise, it was a great deal i felt.I went in on a Monday night, it was dead in there. Including myself and the 2 bar staff, there were 5 people in there. As i said this really good half price offer is great value, but i for one wasn't aware of it - maybe they need to advertise it a bit more ?The one thing i put in my review last time round was some of the people thatn hang out here in the day time at least, your local scroungers etc spending benefir money on booze for instance, that is what puts me off going in the day in all honesty. Maybe it is still like that daytime due to cheapish drink.But i can only judge on what i had the other night, and this time, i got served a decent meal for a great price. So in all, I was happy.

Popped in for a quick lunch. Ordered 2 bacon cheese burgers with curly fries and a child's sausage burger. Childs meal was inedible...burger was served in an English muffin that was so hard even us adults couldn't bite through it, and the actual burger tasted of nothing really and was stone cold. Chip were ok, but baked beans were also cold. Complained but was not offered a replacement or a refund...what a waste of money.Burgers were fine, apart from the very sorry looking pickle on the side!Also, I don't know if they've changed the tea bags they use but it taste a bit odd...kind of like the weak tea you get abroad! Not really a great visit which is a shame as it used to be pretty decent food in the daytime! And the staff were very polite up until the food complaint. Probably won't return if I'm honest, there are far better places to buy a burger!!

Good value 2 for1 dinner, well cooked and served promptly by friendly staff. Very convenient location in town centre.

We had the 2 for £7.95 offer. My steak and ale pie was very good and came with mash and a jug of gravy. My wife had BBQ chicken & bacon melt which ok. Good value tho' service a little slow.

I had a surf and turf and it tasted nice. Staff were really friendly. The place was clean too. The service was good and didn't take long to serve.

Eaten in yates up and down the uk .business brought me to the isle of Wight ,had the two meals for £7.95 ,I had a really nice piece of battered fish ,my PA had the burger which looked nice but ,sadly she only eat a mouthful ,it was cold and very dry ,she had two deserts ,the waitress did ask if she could replace it ,I have to say she was very nice .

Prices here are good and a reasonable variety on the menu, the only fault I could find was that the volume for the tv monitors around the room was too high for people who come in for food, drink and conversation.

Quick review. Popped in the other Friday evening for a quick Drink with a friend. Was quieter then I was expecting, which was good. The young girl (had a freckle on her cheek) was really nice and friendly, which I don't often find in a predominantly drinking establishment.

Food is cheap and good for its price, on a night out we have been served by friendly guys however on a few occasions female staff have been very miserable and rude. Amazingly cheap on a Wednesday night, but on a friday there's not @even deals on shots

This used to be a great restaurant, not any more. My wife and I ate there recently. The food was cold when we got it, we had to send it back and It tasted horrible. The staff were rude when I took the food back. They didn't seem to care. I will never go here again.

Cheerful accommodating bar staff but sadly another example of how bathroom facilities are easily forgotten. On going up to the toilets several of them were either grossly dirty and/or in a state of disrepair. Having found one at the end of the room that still had loo cleaner in it I thought I had cracked it - till I sat down and realised there was no toilet paper!!!The steak dinners we had were reasonably priced and the portion size was good. Unfortunately (as can be the case with steak,) mine was rather tough and had quite a bit of gristle ......but what I managed to eat was cooked as I had requested. My friend however found hers to be slightly undercooked. Having said this the staff were keen to confirm the quality of the food and general experience and responded well to the negative comments - with a promise to check on the state of the toilets upon our departure.I would return again but would perhaps choose something slightly different from the menu and I would probably be cautious if I had to use the bathroom facilities!!

Came in for breakfast due to being over for the Isle of Wight Festival... Looking at their menu, it was very reasonably priced anyway but then they had special deals on for that weekend specifically. When the food came out i was very pleasantly surprised too, great breakfast, especially the sausages!Staff were very friendly and helpful too :-)

Went here for lunch while on a quick shopping trip. Service when ordering was excellent from a very cheerful lady and food arrived within 10 minutes which I thought was excellent as most tables were occupied. We had 2 meals for £7.95 (from a fairly good list) chilli with rice and Nachos and a chicken melt and chips. With 2 drinks bill came to under £12! You won't get better value than that. Good varied menu, food nice, interior decor is lovely and decent amount of loos that were clean, although they are upstairs. Not sure if there are disabled facilities downstairs. Well worth a visit.

Reasonably priced food. Service was ok . It was quiet at lunch time with about 5 people eating and 2 burgers took 20 minutes to arrive which felt a little long. Otherwise not too bad.

Can't quite remember the last time I ate there so this is a guess. But I go there mostly in the evenings when it's a club but when I do eat there, not only is the service fast but the good is cheap and very cheerful. Excellent place to hang out and eat :) great prices and deals too!!

for a Christmas family get together we booked a Christmas meal at yate's in Newport the 3 course meal came to £10 and you couldn't fault it. the staff were friendly and attentive and the drink prices were very reasonable .clearly the chef out done far more expensive venues at Christmas and we would definately return.

Went to Yates for something to eat as it wasn't showing a football match and was nice and quiet. Menu was basic but varied and good value for money. Opted for the chicken curry with a free drink and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We just sat iein here now having a meal (2 for £5).When the meal came it looked small. I had the scampi my wife had bangers n mash. The place was tidy, plenty of families in with kids but not rowdy at all. The meals we in fact very good value& filling for the price. They were a little slow serving my coffee but otherwise I would highly recommend it. Staff were very nice too.

This place offers average food for a cheap price, nothing special, get what you pay for.Bit like a Weatherspoons, tables and floor sometimes a bit sticky, alot of the people in there are the regular lot of scroungers who spend the entire day drinking away their benefits money.Much better places in town to eat or drink than here.

As long as you go before 8PM for a dinner (before drinkers arrive), you will not be disappointed!I absolutely love the burgers they do here, and the deals are amazing. Definitely value food, at two for around £6, everything half price on thursdays, and set meals for around £3 on certain days. Very quick service and cheap drinks too. Only meal I have not enjoyed here is lasagne.

I had been warned but I wanted to see for myself. Never again. Dark and grim ! Screaming kids and food all over the floor under the tables. The chair my husband was sitting on (soft cushioned chair) smelt like a combination of urine and beer. Food average. Give ne a traditional pub any day.

We had a 2 meals for 6.49 menu wasnt the best, plus our first and last time eating in Yates!We both ended up being ill afterwards and would not eat there again.
