Mill Bay Inn in Isle of Wight

Coeliac / Gluten free friendly A+ Had fish and chips here yesterday which were freshly prepared. Having Coeliac disease i am always nervous when eating out as i get a reaslly bad reaction if i have any gluten. basically vomitting for 3-4 hours and out of action for the next 12hrs or so. Anyway, the chef assured me that they took lots of steps to ensure food would not be cross contaminated such as cooking in seperate oil etc etc. Really good food, no reaction and great value so thank you and i will be back. 100% recommended!

Lovely pub with great community spirited owners, always supporting other local businesses and the friendliest staff, such a warm welcome. Great roast dinners, so much of it and always tasty and fresh and such good value for money, often doing some great deals. We had 2 for 1 roast at the weekend and you still get as much food. Well done team, keep up the good work. 👏👏👏

Delicious Sunday lunch, plenty of meat, lots of veg - plenty of roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire pud, stuffing ball, little sausage, plus extra veg bowl with carrots, cauliflower, swede, cabbage, broccoli; extra gravy bowl refilled second time for us; selection of sauces. Very friendly owners and staff. Excellent value. Recommend highly!!! Thanks guys!!

Terrible service from owner/manager there.

Absolutely disgusting and greedy service. After being in the chippy, we were taking away 2 large packs of fish and chips. Keep in mind we were a large group of people. After going to grab the sauce and leave, the owner lady comes up and starts rudely going on a tangent about how we can’t have the sauce packets. after explaining that we were taking away the food, she says we need to pay for them and can’t have them. (Keep in mind they were out in display). Very disappointing experience

The home cooked food was fresh, well present with excellent service and amazing value. We will be returing and would wholeheartingly recommend anyone to visit the Mill Bay Inn. The location is perfect with an uninterrupted view of the sea.

We visited The Mill Bay Inn twice during our recent trip to Ventnor! The super friendly staff welcome you as you walk in the door and the Sunday servers were so polite too. We had fish and chips one night and a Sunday roast too. The food was yummy and therefore I forgot to photograph it... although I did remember by the time the sweets arrived and the sticky toffee pudding was lush! All with gorgeous sea views! I'd highly recommend this pub on the seafront. It's easy to park on the Esplanade in Ventnor too!

We really like The Mill Bay. The staff cannot do enough for you and are lovely to chat to. The restaurant looks out onto the beach and they have a really good menu selection. My fish, chips and mushy peas were crispy, tasty and an excellent portion size. However, my husband had the fish pie which was so delicious that I was almost envious! Even better was the 20% discount offer on the Wednesday we were there. See you next time we are on the Island.

Wow! This is a large bar/restaurant along the seafront at Ventnor. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to a table with a sea view. - we chose inside as it was a bit windy but there is outside seating if preferred. - There is a specials board and a regular menu to chose from. We chose from the specials board. This month there is 20% off all food Every month now there is some form of offer as an incentive as the winter months get less visitors. Both my husband and I decided on the Steak and Guinness pie. This came with chips, peas and gravy. OMG! The pie portion was massive and totally full of delicious, succulent, chunky pieces of beef! The pastry was both top and bottom and tasted amazing. I have truly never had such a tasty, home cooked meat pie! I would go so far as to say it was the best I’ve ever had! Big compliments to the chef! (Or in this case, chefs! )

Delicious fish and chips, really crispy and tasty. 2 for £15 on a Friday is a good deal for beachfront food.

Food a bit greasy but it was battered sausages and chips so may be being a bit critical! Till staff were grumpy but waiting staff were very friendly.

Big portions, friendly staff and good prices. Not a higher score as the cheeseburger was very bad

I had a steak and ale pie which was the best one I’ve ever had, my family had between them roast dinners, sausages, beef burgers and chips all of which were excellent. The staff all of which looked like school children were excellent very helpful and friendly, all this and a pint of lager top for £4.50 on the sea front you can’t go wrong. I’ll be back!

Walked in as passing trade at lunchtime, as they had an offer on fish and chips. Fantastic pub, laid back and with nice atmosphere, food was prompt and very good. Servers came back to check we were happy and seemed to really care that we were. We will be coming back.

Probably the worse piece of fish I have ever had. It was such a small amount of fish surrounded by masses of batter. In fact I would say it was more a case of batter and chips rather than fish and chips. On the other hands the chips were excellent. A lovely spot though right on the sea front.

Very tasty and good value fish and chips, and steak & ale pie and chips. The staff were friendly and helpful. We live locally and took friends here one evening during their visit to us and they were very happy. Good size portions too.

Utterly superb sunday roasts with what could be better - carvery style and relaxed approach. Fish and chips is excellent (crisp batter, wonderful chips and lovely mushy peas) and express service for all takeaway foods - don't miss out. Support a local provider and eat knowing you've contributed to Ventnor remaining available to visit, eat and drink in!

Worst fish and chips I can ever remember having. They were obviously out of a freezer, but just very cheap ones. I didn’t think eating out could be this bad in this day and age!

In a fantastic location on Ventnor seafront, this lovely family run pub / restaurant serves great food and has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The staff give it their all to make your visit a good one. It's the only restaurant I have ever been to that give a proper sized gravy boat, not the little thimbleful you normally get! We visit every time we are on the island.

I have eaten here a few times when visiting Ventnor. I have always found the staff to be very welcoming and the food is always, hot, fresh very tasty and generous portions for the prices charged. Definitely a must go to.

Had my 87th birthday party at the mill bay on 23rd September with 34 friends and family, we ate off the menu and received superb food in record time my hearty thanks for an evening to remember to Phil Tracy and all their attentive staff , next year party or wake.

Food was plentiful and beautifully cooked - delicious. My husband and I had the Sunday roast with the half price desert offer - so enjoyed our meals. Staff so welcoming, polite, friendly, kind and efficient. Thoroughly recommend.

Called in today for Fish and Chips on a recommendation. £18.50 for 2, with fish and chips costing 🤔. Glad we didn't pay the full amount almost £22. It was OK but we were a little disappointed.

Carvery no longer open but they do the roasts from the kitchen.

Love this place. The owners are always so accommodating, they feel like family! The food is great value too hence why keep returning. Particularly like the fish & chips & had a huge carvery, followed by the best chocolate fudge cake & really good quality ice cream! Love this place and the staff. Great menu with lots of choice. Had a takeaway carvery for 2 as, why would I spend all Sunday afternoon in the kitchen for just me and him indoors??! Staff couldn't of been more helpful and accommodating with me and my fussy food choices. Chef is a happy chap. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend having a takeaway carvery. To be fair it's just as good sat in there but you'll need to book as it gets busy.

Great to visit the Mill Bay again in the New Year. Our meals of the home-made meat pie and Chicken curry were, as always, excellent and very good value. There was also a nice Real Ale on and my wife's usual local gin is always available. The Mill Bay also provides a take-away service which we have used in the past which offers the same great quality and value.

Went for Sunday lunch, great staff and lovely food - staff were attentive and the roast dinner was fab- the Yorkshire pudding and homemade gravy were perfect.

I wish businesses would update their opening hours! It's a bloody long walk down a very steep road in the pouring rain to find a sign outside the door saying closed! Takes two minutes to update their Google listing!

Good prices, nice atmosphere and ofc a good view of the sea. Always nice for a few ciders in summer or a hearty stout watching the rough winter waves.

We visit Ventnor quite a lot and my husband decided to have his 60th birthday party here. Phil and his team were really helpful in the planning of the party and really helpful with the setting up particularly the 2 young lads. Food was really good and a reasonable price per head. Have been twice for their carvery which is good value for money. There was a good variety of vegetables which were nicely cooked so they were not too soft and not too hard, in fact perfect for me. To top it all there is a great view of the sea and the service was great.

Thoroughly enjoyed a carvery. Very cheap and good portion size and friendly staff. What more could you ask for. Will be returning again

23rd September my 87th birthday dinner party, where else but the millbay where Phil and his superb staff gave 35 of us a night to remember can't thank them enough and will return for my 88th or my wake.

Popped in as was walking passed and had a fabulous welcome and decided to eat here. Food was amazing and would highly recommend and reasonably priced too.

Very friendly staff, great food and nice location. Very reasonable priced and big portions. The Sunday carvery was great and very generous with meat portions I even got a box for our dog which was lovely. Parents enjoyed their fish and chips. Definitely recommend.

Had a great Sunday roast the carvery had a great selection and very generous meat potions the puddings were to die for would highly recommend this place and a lovely sea view was a bonus,plus you have a singing chef to boot what more could you ask for 😄.

We had a lovely meal of fish and chips with mushy peas , cooked to perfection and very good value at a special discount if you brought 2 or More we ordered 7 fish and chips and one sausage and chips they all came out perfectly together in 10 to 15 minutes, Bar staff and restaurant staff very friendly and couldn’t do more , a nice venue and lovely view across the beach and out to sea , would thoroughly recommend a visit for a meal here , after our meal they had live music playing outside on the patio area very nice . Lovely meal , fantastic value.

We had our son and his family over for the w/e and had booked for us to have dinner at the Millbay after a hard day at Blackgang Chine. As always the food was really good and catered well for everyone including our two grandsons. They really enjoyed their waffle deserts. Staff were all very friendly as usual and overall it was very good value for money.

Me and hubby have just had cod and chips here , and it was amazing, firm cod in a crispy batter and scrummy chips that stayed crispy throughout the meal . Would definitely recommend.

We're currently renovating a house and don't have a completed kitchen just yet. So we came across the MillBay last year attracted by the location and a very reasonably priced Sunday carvery. Needless to say we have been so impressed by the welcome the service given by the staff and a lovely carvery, it has now become part of our Sunday routine. The food is excellent, with plenty of choice ie. Four meats loads of vegetables and endless gravy if you want that. Puddings are delicious too especially the cheesecake and apple crumble. Tried the fish and chips last week and enjoyed that too. What you get is service with smile and everyone makes you welcome. The young serving staff are attentive and a credit to the Millbay. We've already said that eating here will be part of our regular routine once we're living here permanently which isn't too far away. Pleased to recommend.

went saturday 20th for the fish and chips and to watch Derek Sandy singer, the food is fantastic fresh crisp batter large fresh fish and crispy chips, better than the local chippy, we are local and usually get the winter weekend deal of buy one get one free takeaway, lovely filling meal and entertainment in a beautiful setting, what more could yopu want, will be using as our regular chippy more often x
