Yantze in Canterbury

I've travelled all over the world, and the Yantze restaurant has provided some of the best food and dining service I've ever had. The staff at the yantze have always been kind and caring, delivering the best service, and even surprised me with a memorable conversation from a few years ago, about the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe book series. As you embark on your well-deserved retirement, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful dining experiences you've provided for myself, my family, and my friends. I wish you the very best. 多謝 and 谢谢 for the countless meals and memories.

Food was great, new waiter, lot to learn, didn't exude confidence in order taking and easily confused but we got their. Not that busy for a Saturday but maybe a good thing, food though was 9.5/10

Came here on a Saturday night and they found us a table for two as it was busy we went for the set menu for two people it was great lots of nice Chinese food the starters where very good. The service and the price was good and will be coming back again soon

Delicious fresh food, great Vegan/Veggie options. Really friendly staff. Also decently priced, I went for the vegetarian Hors d'oeuvre at £10 and it was lovely and there was loads leftover for lunch the next day. My new favourite Chinese in Whitstable.

We booked this restaurant as we had not been there for years when it traded under another name and was Italian food then. After finally getting through on the phone I managed to book a table for 5 on a Saturday night, they use the phone line for making banking calls as well so hang on in there to get through. They have a set menus and also individual items ,we had a set menu for two times 2 and single items for my granddaughter. The food was excellent and the quantity was unbelievable. We would go back again in the future

Our meal was very yummy, all dishes were delicious and we ordered quite a few between 4 of us! Had not eaten much during the day so we were all very hungry! We cleared all our plates, nothing disappointed. Will definitely visit again when in the Tankerton Zone! Thank you to all the staff for being friendly and accommodating. Thank you! Decided to try a take out meal before dining at the restaurant. Two thirds of the food was tepid. The "fillet" steak was tough and grisly, the pork also was tough and chicken tasteless. The starters were ok the prawns nice. The meal cost £68.50 so very disappointed. The rice, noodles and curry sauce were good.

We were on holiday in Whitstable and decided to get a takeaway for a change, the four star review seemed ok so my bother ordered for his family and I mine. To say we were disappointed is an understatement on my order we had special fried rice.which was little more than boiled rice with a few other ingredients, the Singapore vermicelli was extremely bland and the prawn crackers which were given free were over cooked and burnt which is probably why they were given, even my dog turned his nose up at them. My brother was as critical of his order.

On holiday in Whitstable and our second visit to this restaurant this week Food is excellent and the staff very friendly Well worth a visit

Been coming here a lot recently and I have to say that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. Brilliant staff and incredible tasting food, what more could you want?

It was sad to see a demise of what used to be a good thriving restaurant from the last time l visited. We were the only customers a group of 5. Food was nice but extremely poor portions, bit pricey considering previously it used to be all u can eat buffet at a fraction of the cost., So much so we were considering to get a takeaway between us afterwards. Drinks were pricey £3 for small coke etc. When l complained about the portions didn't really get any response. I will definitely not be going again.

We have been using Yantze for takeaway and dine in for the last 18 months and have not been disappointed. We visited again with friends and as usual the food and service excellent. The restaurant is spacious and still has good covid measures in place.

The best Chinese food I have eaten. My favourite dish was the Cantonese duck followed closely by the lemon chicken. Meats were tender and cooked to perfection. Batter was light and crisp. Service was also very good despite being a busy Saturday night. Was a great choice to eat in and made a perfect meal to celebrate my new job.

Bring back the entertainment nights

We arrived without a booking and, although busy, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. In spite of saying they needed the table within 90 minutes the waitress brought us the "set menu 3" with enough gap to savour every flavour. Great service. Great food

My favourite restaurant in this area. The food was so delicious and filling. The portion sizes were generous and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. Good covid measures were in place and tables were adequately spaces out. We shall be returning soon, it's definitely worth a visit if your in the area xx

Ive been coming here for a good few years and it's always been spot on! Clean, super tasty and amazig customer service these guys are one of the best Chinese in the area without a doubt.

Not great experience as made a telephone takeaway order for collection and as I am coeliac and very wheat intolerant, I enquired whether there is a gluten-free option for the spring rolls. The assurance was it was. Back home it looked suspiciously like wheat. Phoning back for futher reassurance the call was taken by another member of staff who said it was wheat. So for those with allergies, beware....staff clueless on allergies which is gravely irresponsible and also may have grave consequences for the allergy sufferer

Phoned in for a takeaway collection. My husband asked the lady on the phone 3 x if the spring rolls were gluten free (I am coeliac and have severe reaction to wheat). Why we enquired as I have had spring rolls from other restaurants who have provided me with rice spring rolls instead of wheat. We were assured they were gluten-free. However once home they looked suspiciously like wheat. We phoned back and a different lady answered and told us they were not gluten-free. So beware of this restaurant if you have allergies as staff are not trained well in allergy awareness

Always a friendly welcome, the food choice is great, food is always served hot with great flavour. Kristine is always happy to run though items on menu that we haven’t tried before! Sharmaine is fantastic front of house, attentive to the table through the course of the meal. A great team and food, can highly recommend.

We ate here on Sep 19 2020. Food and service was excellent. We chose a set meal for two, loads of food, all pipping hot & delicious. No rushing between courses, leaving lots of time to drink and chat.

I don’t know why we haven’t visited before. The 2 young waitresses are so welcoming and professional. Food exceptional and service excellent. Particularly impressed with the ‘Virus’ safety; temperature checked upon entry. A chap was refused entry because of this and the whole group asked to understand, as they’d been in contact with said person, their booking couldn’t be honoured. You’ll feel safe, and looked after here. We’ll be back. Thank you!

Four of us had the Set menu (B I think) and there was SO much food but all very delicious and value for money.Would recommend this restaurant but be careful as it also does live music nights which I try to avoid (depending on my company!)

The food was really nice, with generous portion sizes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Distancing was good, with large gaps between tables & separate entrance/exit.. Staff wore masks & gloves.

We took advantage of the Buffett menu and as there were 4 of us we could choose 6 starters and 6 mains. Freshly cooked, lots of food and lovely staff. Good value. Will be back

We had 22 people including 2 6 year olds. The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. There was a siger thet that got every body up dancing an even got my grandaughter up on stage to sing with her.

I like this place, order food, its cooked fresh so a little wait, and if you want more, order more. Recommended.

Large restaurant with a lively atmosphere.Plenty of options on the menu, we went for the buffet and we were not disappointed, awesome choice!Service was great, appeared to be a pleasant team all working hard together. So loud couldn't here yourself think.. 11 of us Paid 38£ each for set menu, could of bought the whole lot for 40£. Given warm bottles of white wine, Minimum spend 10£ at the bar !!As for Queen tribute!!! Say no more.Would I go back No

Very quiet on Sunday afternoon but great welcome. Food is excellent and the Sunday Buffet menu is very good value. Well worth a visit.

Went early around 6,food fresh hot lovely appearance staff attentive,couldn’t find fault in any of the food,presentation perfect,no hesitation recommending this restaurant

Had a great evening with an excellent set menu of hours d’oeuvres followed by crispy duck, noodles rice and a selection of prawn and beef dishes. All food fresh, tasty and hot. Lovely people serving and very well priced food and drinks. Nice to have a cold Tsing Tao to wash it down. Neil Duncan is a great entertainer and sang a great collection of classics and some less well known numbers too. The place was full and really buzzing. Really recommend this evening, great fun and great food. Would be good if all patrons listened to the act rather than talking through some of it. Respect the artist please! We all want to hear him not you!

Lovely place, food excellent very hot and tasty Only odd thing it was advertised has soul and Motown tribute evening but only two Motown songs where played. Even so the singer was very good Would come here again Lovely

The restaurant is clean, airy and well presented. The staff are very friendly and approachable. Food was okay but there seem to be a lot of onions with most of the dishes and, unfortunately, I am unable digest them as I've got older. As this was my first visit, I was not sure how the food would be presented so would ask for no onions in future. The salted squid was very good and the sesame prawns.

The food here is delicious. We are vegan and they have lots of options for us. Delivery is always fast and food is always hot

Lovely place but hard to move around last time we were there to watch dolly Parton tribute you crammed in to many tables so you could not move I felt sorry for the entertainer as she could not move around as people hen partys made it difficult for her very disappointed as she gave up and came out and just done normal songs when it was supposed to be a dolly Parton night

Visited midweek when it was a little quiet and the food was amazing. All came out from the kitchen speedily and steaming hot. Great customer service too. Will definitely return.

We were pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. We only ended up here because this is one of the few restaurants in Whitstable that’s open late.

The food wasn't up to scratch! Not really authentic either. Flavor just wasn't there at all. Very disappointed Yantze and won't be back for more.

We eat regularly at the Yantze and have never had a bad meal. service is very good even on busy nights like New Years. The food is excellent and we are waiting for lunch opening hours so we can book a table for this evening!

Food is a bit expensive for its taste and quality, but the decoration is really nice. The water chestnuts in the veggie dish seemed old and as if started to get spoiled. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Our regular Chinese takeaway (China Chef) was closed so we tried Yantze. The reviews were mixed but we were optimistic because he had heard good things in the past. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. We were told that delivery could take up to an hour but ended up waiting an hour and 40 minutes. When I called to ask how long the food would be, they did apologized and offered 10% off but in retrospect I should have cancelled. The two main dishes (curry and black bean) were thin and watery. The food was tasteless. Neither of us finished our food and both felt gross afterwards. Avoid!

We had a take away from Yanzte after calling to see if my wife's dietary needs could be met. My wife cannot eat onion or garlic as it upsets get stomach. The staff were very helpful and adapted dishes for her. Prompt delivery too. Looking forward to our first visit.

Lovely Chinese restaurant with great service

After searching for somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening, my husband and I came across this place. There were no other customers in there and throughout our meal time only one other couple popped in and left with a menu in hand. The staff were very friendly and chatty. We ordered from the buffet menu where you select a few different starters and mains that are then bought to your table. (Unlike the help yourself, all you can eat style buffet).

We had the buffet menu, food was very good and the service was also excellent. Chloe was an amazing singer and made the evening even more special. Had a lot of fun and we both can't wait to come back.

Great welcome by Christine and all the wonderful staff. Meal was gorgeous ,service quick and efficient. Enjoyed the live music. Superb crowd of people .Really enjoyable evening.

The food was good the staff were good and they had a Freddie Mercury tribute act.so it was a good night.

This is the second occasion I have 'eaten in' - the first was August 2017, and the level of service and quality of food remains very good. Made to feel welcome, not hurried into ordering, and staff were patient and attentive. I am known by the manager(ess) as I use the take away service abd my regular order and delivery address is known!!You're doing really well, keep it up, and see you soon !

We ordered a takeaway for the first time from this company. I’m sorry to say but it was absolutely awful. Not one person in our family enjoyed it. We wanted to try some where different for a change to our normal takeaway in tankerton due to the leaflet that came through our door today. We won’t ever be eating from here again and we had to chuck it in the bin and Ive had to start cooking something else. It was also cold when we tried to eat it. I don’t usually write bad reviews but this was truly unpleasant.

Last visit was a take away. Standard still the same, which is OK but never quite the top quality we hope for. Some confusion with the order this time but no big problem.

Have eaten 'in' a couple of times, but regular 'take away' user and have it delivered. Have not been disappointed with the quality of food, or the quantity. Extra chillies in my Singapore fried rice is never a problem! Delivery sometimes is delayed, but I think this is on account of the amount of people using the take away facility.

Visited Yantze for a regular takeaway. The food is always great here and very tasty. Always on time and the service is very friendly. Best Chinese in the area I think. Great to eat in there too ! Highly recommended 👍

Quite a large party of 16. we arrived at 6:45 a family member had a cigarette in the smoking area it's all undercover right next to the entrance,there was seating outside which was covered in bird poop. I entered the restaurant and ordered had my first drink,rum & coke and it tasted like it's been watered down ,barely could i taste the rum in a small glass ,drinks way to over priced. One glass of wine £6:50,,soda water £1:50 so expensive. Some of our party didn't turn up because of weather conditions ,snowed in and couldnt make it,,we paid £10 non-refundable deposit on each seat so we lost a total of £50. The first meal came out and there wasn't enough, served on a large plate in the middle of the table. As we ate off ,of what i would call a sandwich plate very small for the first & second course.for the third course we had small finger size bowls. At our table we asked for more as only to be told that would cost extra , mediocre food ,ribs we're delicious tho,,Just started the second course, spiky dried duck not very nice & I'm a lover of duck,disappointed. while i was eating one of the staff approached our table "sent by the manager" and asked if we wanted to pay for our party now??? Yes people while we were eating! Half way through our food!!!!! Never in my life! ,have I had that happen! Spoke to the manager as i was quite upset in how rude that was, as it was done in front of the, 70 year old mum & friends,only to be met with alittle attitude from the manager herself! They also took away chairs from our party which we had paid for I don't care if there was no one sitting on them ,we paid for them! And they should of stayed where they were,the toilets were so so cold, Baltic, tiles missing on the walls toilet paper down the toilet where the toilets don't flush very well. went to pay and was nearly charged for an extra person £18. And the kind manager ,as I was paying let me off a pound,,,Thanks for that. The one star was for the 60s music . But I would of given him 5☆ if they rated on this page for entertainment the birthday girl loved it! Table staff ,they all were very lovely and polite. I didn't tip as I thought £49 that we lost would cover it. we paid in total £448 not including drinks. None of us will be returning.

We had a birthday event and wanted Chinese. The menu has a great variety. Everything we ordered was very high quality and very well cooked. Service was very good. A real treat. Thank you.

Birthday meal with family, 10 on a table suitable for 8 max, food was good and came quickly, could do with a veggie option for the intermediate course as it’s only duck, prawns and oysters, entertainment was good.. On the whole a fun night!..

We came in as a party of 20 and had the buffet menu, which is great value. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back!
