Fish is always fresh & delicious. Chip portions hot & plentiful & Steve is always warm & welcoming.

Fish and ships were good and a lot of them! Chicken curry was a bit overdone, everything drowned in the curry. Portions are very generous.

They contaminated the sausage in with the chips and tried to sell me contaminated chips they have no awareness of food cross contamination. I'm a Muslim and found it an insult. That they can do this disgusting act I erge all.muslims do not eat from this shop

This has to be the best fish and chip shop in Cardiff. Been so disappointed with some chip shops. Will be coming here from now on. Fabulous. Have found the one and only.

We had lovely fish and chips from here last night. The origin of the cod was up on a board, as well as the potato variety. Great range of soft drinks on offer. The batter was really crispy with moist fish inside. Good chips. The 'small' portions of chips were huge! All just wrapped in paper so there was very little waste.

Banging food! A must try! Next time if i want fish and chips its definitely from here, the search is over.I ordered cod and chips with Irish curry. Food arrived very fast, the portions are solid, it was piping hot. They give you a nice sample of the other fish which I think it's a great idea you, get to try both. Cod and the sample 10/10, very juicy and soft ,Irish curry and chips 10/10 perfect combo and very very smooth , it was good quality and well cooked food. THANKS

After using Yans for a number of years and being loyal regular customers, tonight we were treated so poorly. When we received our order the icecreams were missing, we contacted deliveroo and Yans shockingly Yans did not care as the driver had left with them but as we didn't receive it they didn't give a toss!!! You would think as we were so regular they would have investigated what the driver had done with them. So tonight was the last for Yans no good company would treat customers like this they don't deserve the custom it doesn't take long for poor service to be voiced and heard!!!!!

incredibly fast service, piping hot food. really glad they have irn bru as well! ordered the cod bites and small chips. very good portion of chips and i even got an extra cod bite! establishment looked very clean. staff were very polite. good value for money. would definitely order from here again.

I gave 1 star. The food was awful £1.50 for a scoop and it really was less than a scoop of chips that was hard, uncooked and cold sausages were hard, curry sauce was cold I had to heat it up. Service was dreadful. I do not recommend never again!!

Tidy chips, helpful patient staff.

Ordered through Deliveroo .. food never turned up, Driver text to say he was outside I went outside back and front he was not there, driver lied (I tried phoning no reply) I text back obviously wrong house, the next message I got he left it in front garden . Driver lied again! I gave specific instructions on where I was and the driver obviously can’t read .., I tried contacting Yans and nobody answered left a message on their answering machine and Yans couldn’t even be bothered to ring back.. never order from here again nor use Deliveroo

Ordered meal from them via Just Eat paid.. Meal not delivered. Phoned Yans. Was told all meals had gone out and it was nothing ondo with them. Refused to contact driver. Unable to contact Just Eat. Dreadful. DON'T BOOK A DELIVERY FROM YANS.

Long established chippy which needs everyone's custom. Brilliant owner who has time for everyone. Just a shame parking is hit and miss if your outside of walking distance. Chips are very fresh and excellent quality. I prefer my fish with very crispy batter, where this is a flat type batter. The chicken is perfect and curry sauce beautiful.

I went fish and chip shop in 22/8 at night time.There was hair in the cod.so we want refund but they refuse to give us a refund.MY sister cried and my mum want to see what going on. She came back the car angry.In the end we came back home with no good food and no refund and everyone was hungry.The worst fish and chip we ever had.If I was you go down the street they will be a better fish and chip shop.

Excellent service. Excellent food. Haven't been to this chippy for some time. Decided to go back there today as local chippy's were closed..... I wasn't disappointed! Ordered chicken and chips via phone at 1150 (10 mins before opening time). Arranged to pick up at 1205. As I walked through the door (at 1205) the food was passed to me in a bag nice and hot. Chicken cooked well and crispy skin on the outside (just how I like it). Plenty of hot and tasty chips too, so put some aside for tea later. Salt and vinegar already applied as well, as requested. Well done Yan! Top marks!

I just realised why Yan's is my favourite chip shop after visiting a local chain and being sorely disappointed. Once you've had the best, nothing else will do.

I have fish and chips delivered from them once a month and they're absolutely lovely always warm and very tasty and years ago when I used to go to the internet cafe next door I always used to have a bag of chips walking home never any complaints with the food and the staff are always really friendly and polite. I highly recommend getting food from here.

Went here for a takeaway ordered jumbo sausage with fishcake, gravy and chips and chips cheese and beans in trays with buttered roll. All was nice will visit again.

The food here is ok however, my problem was with the owner. He never has anything nice to say about other local businesses! Every time I come in there's always something being said. Very Unprofessional! Find it quite off putting especially during these times when we're supposed to be supporting each other which is why I won't be coming back

Been wanting to try gete for a while. Chips were soggy, batter on sausage was good. Seemed expensive for what we had.

No voy a las tiendas de chips tanto como quisiera. Un amigo siempre elogia este lugar, así que nos detuvimos camino a casa. Fue excelente. Servicio muy limpio, profesional y amable. Hay algunas mesas que detienen el olor a papas fritas en el automóvil / hogar e incluso venden latas de diente de león y bardana. Teníamos pollo y bacalao pequeño, muy recomendable.

The price is going up all the time whereas the amount served is less and the quality is of food has declined. The staff ignores you and keeps you waiting for a long while they keeps chatting with their friends and regular customers . There is no consistency of service.

Grandes porciones de pescado, realmente agradable, sin embargo la masa era un poco demasiado espesa y poco hecha. Chips un poco empapados, pero no es terrible. Muy buenos guisantes blandos, pero la salsa de curry no sabía a salsa de curry, tenía un sabor extraño y tenía una consistencia extraña. La salsa tártara que era casera sabía a crema de ensalada pero aún así lo disfruté.

Pedimos esta noche a UHW, la entrega fue muy rápida y la comida estaba hirviendo caliente y fresca.

Después de un largo descanso sin comer demasiadas patatas fritas, probamos este lugar después de ver anuncios en los contenedores de las paradas de autobús. La primera vez fue genial. La segunda vez que los chips estaban grasientos y empapados, al igual que la mayoría de los chips para llevar en estos días. Una verdadera lástima.

No puedo dar una calificación más alta ya que, desde las dos veces que estuve allí, me he dado cuenta de que los propietarios / el hombre y la mujer que parecen dirigir el restaurante no tratan a los miembros de su personal con respeto. No creo que sea un ambiente agradable o cómodo en el que se pueda observar su pobre actitud hacia los miembros del personal (¿potencialmente junior?). La comida es normal. Observé que mi olla de guisantes blandos iba directamente al microondas y luego me la dieron, por lo que obviamente no estaba fresca en absoluto.

Had fish and chips delivered a fair distance. They were piping hot, chips were lovely, fish was perfect, batter was nice and crispy. Had a chicken curry, it was outstanding. Highly recommend this shop. 5 star. I cant understand anyone having a negative experience

Y parecía estar frito para ver cod, para una alta apiladas orden en especial, solo a eso del mediodía que era, y pidió un par de peces y una porción de patatas fritas, amablemente obligado. Así que prisa casa, rellenos de nuestras caras, con comida deliciosa, algunos de los mejores jamás pescado y patatas fritas.

This place is alright. Nothing spectacular but doesn't disappoint. Pretty much what you'd expect from a standard chip shop.

Padre sin duda podría freír Steves un chip y siempre vale la pena una visita - si sólo para Steves sonrisa descarado! Masa ordenada también!

He estado yendo a yans durante muchos años. Claramente si tomamos mucho orgullo en su comida y siempre sabrosa, tamaños buena parte y a un precio razonable. El lugar está muy limpio y la comida siempre fresca. Uno de los mejores chippies en Cardiff.

Este chips es inigualable. El pescado es siempre fresco y muy razonable. He estado yendo allí durante muchos años y Steve el gerente tiene unas habilidades de servicio al cliente. Las raciones son una excelente relación calidad-precio. Otras tiendas son tan pequeñas y tan caro, pero no aquí. Si no has probado bien merece una visita.

Been avoiding chip shops for a long time. There have been none that done it quite right for some years in this area. This is the real deal and a welcome addition to a whitchurch road that is filling up with great places to eat this last year or two

I started going to Yans when I was a child, I remember Yan opening the shop.Moved away many years ago and only get there a few times a year. Tonight, was almost like any other, Yans boy Steve always in the background and all 3 staff working hard. Food was lovely too, not sure it's the 'best' in Cardiff but it's certainly up there.I suppose employing 3 staff and maintaining good quality food costs and I thought my bill was more than I usually pay elsewhere. But on the whole it's a great traditional chippy, with a family that cares wholeheartedly about what they do.Not seen Yan for many years. Always had a kind word to say back in the old days when I'd walk down there with the dog . " How you?, How you dog"

I popped in on the way home from training on Thursday night.Arrived at 8pm ish, I was second in the queue.There was no fish on view,two pies and very little else.The two young lads behind the counter seemed to be busy but not serving.I ordered large chips,Chicken pie and curry sauce.I was told there was no chips,that was no problem I did not mind waiting.The lad went out the back to get my pie which was obviously microwaved (soft on the outside and hotter than the sun on the inside). I then waited too long for my chips.I used to use the shop several years ago and was always pleased with the results.This was a very disappointing experience for me.The result was the food was below average and I thought expensive.

Yan's Chippy is just what you want from a good food local chippy. I've been going to Yan's, for thirty years now since Yan was, himself in charge. Its run by his son steve now and doing just the same great job. If you're not sure what to try - you MUST try the home made fish cakes - to die for.

Having used Yan's for many years we have never had a bad meal,or been disappointed with his food. Always freshly cooked, good service always with a smile, good size potions and excellent value. The only problem l have ever had is when he is closed and on a rest day and l am unable to use what l believe to be the best fish and chip shop in Cardiff if not the best in Wales Thanks John B

Went into Yans the other day and ordered the pie, chips and any side meal deal. It was very cheap at £4.25 a cracking deal! Portion size was great, would recommend this deal to people.

As fish shops go this has got to be one of the best. Portion sizes are good and the food is always fresh. If you fancy some good ol fashion fish and chips you won't go wrong here. I've never had a bad meal from Yans.

I love chips, and whenever I have some elsewhere I have to compare it to yan's because it is that good. Cheap, fast, large portions, cheerful and delicious.

Used to have the rotisserie breast of chicken which was absolutely lovely but fancied a change and instead tried the chicken curry off the bone. Can't fault it was gawjus will be having again.

We use Yan's Fish Bar quite a lot, and know Steven the owner quite well, as his son goes to same school as my daughter. We have never had a bad meal there yet. Keep up the good work Steven! :)

I have been to many chip shops in Cardiff and nothing comes close to Yans, I have been to competitor chip shops such as Top Gun and Albany fish bar but Yans beats both of them hands down. The food is excellent no wonder why this fish shop is voted best in Cardiff! Always see the boss working along side the staff and the service is on the dot, good,friendly and with a smile. What more can you ask for?

Visited Yan's tonight, after seeing it was voted he best in South Wales. Well, it certainly is not, in fact it's the worst I've tasted in Cardiff! The chips are bland and dry, and taste barely cooked. The fish had clearly been sitting in the heater for hours, there was barely any fish in there. The curry sauce though, wow, how could it even pass as curry sauce? The hot and mild taste almost identical, both like sour wallpaper paste. It cost £20 for three meals, the portions were tiny! The guy even charged me separately for the fish chips and mushy peas even though they had a deal on for £6, but he didn't bother acknowledging that! Useless! If you want amazing chips in Cardiff, at excellent prices, with fish cooked to order and massive portions, head to the Maelfa chip shop in Llanedeyrn. The building itself looks horrendous but looks are deceiving! AVOID YANS!

After a long day at roath park first stop had to be yans plenty of chips for six fish was perfectly cooked Steve the owner is very friendly to customers and always happy definitely worth the money cheaper than Burger King for six of us well worth a visit

Got to say I'm disappointed with the fish and chips from yan's, read in the south wales echo that this fish bar had been voted best and I beg to differ, nothing outstanding or award winning about the chips, they taste like just your typical chippy.. We'd travelled some distance to visit especially for some decent chips but ended up buying more from our local chippy on the way home which weren't great but better than yan's!! Only had chips last week from near by at Albany road fish bar and they were much much nice..highly recommended them!! Sort it out south wales echo, if you give awards for their chips then you should come an taste mine cos I'm probably due an award!!! LOL

Yan's is the best fish and chip shop in Cardiff. The food is excellent and the chips are always so fresh, with none of the scrappy bits you so often get in other fish and chip shops. The staff are always polite, friendly and chatty and the owner Steve makes a point of saying hello and goodbye to each and every customer...and always seems to remember his customers next time....I cannot recommend them highly enough, if I could give them more stars, I would!!
