I was really excited to come here before the rugby game as the food here is always great but for some reason this time just wasnt very good. we ordered the lamb shanks but they tasted disappointing and stringy. the panacotta was nice at least. I hope this was just a one off because it was so busy :/

Pleasant but dark interior - probably better to visit during the evening rather than during the day. Staff were friendly and very considerate of my food intolerance. The food was rather slow coming out and while it was tasty it wasn't the best Sunday roast I've had. Unlikely to visit again.

I recently visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening with several friends. We went down stairs and were warmly greeted and taken to our table by a lovely lady, she was amazing with every interaction throughout the evening, however, that was where the highlight of the food service finished. We ordered drinks and they came out, but when ordering a second round we were just given cans and no clean glass. They kept coming to the table to lift up cans to see if they were finished and it was quite uncomfortable and felt as though we were being rushed. The food choices were very limited, but what was ordered was beautifully presented. The Lamb Shank was very fatty and I was not able to clean the bone. The accompaniment to the meal was a small potato disc. I understand the feel and style they were going for, but for the price you would think the food would be an excellent quality and would have some other vegetables. The atmosphere was very good in the restaurant. Maybe I just expected more given the glowing reviews along with the prices, but I was left feeling slightly dissatisfied and would hesitate to return.

A first time visit for a special birthday meal. Lovely restaurant, decor and ambience. Staff attentive, and very aware of allergens. Menu was tasty, enough choice for all of us and presented very well.

Visited potted big at the end of January and once again proved why it’s the best in the city. As soon as we arrived the host Sam set the mood and recommended beautiful Portuguese wine and the food was outstanding. If you’re looking for a place for your next date night make sure you drop in to see these guys!

Had lunch on Valentine’s Day. Three courses for £30 including a cocktail. Really enjoyed! Everything was really good, lovely atmosphere, attentive service and food delicious.

Always such a fantastic dining experience. The food is exceptionally well made and tastes beautiful, there is nothing on the menu that fails to impress. Easily one of the best dining spots in Cardiff, or even in the whole of Wales!

Bought a voucher as a gift in the Black Friday sale that I have subsequently never received. I informed the admin staff at the potted pig that I had never received this voucher and was informed that they couldn’t locate my purchase on their system. I have since sent them proof of my purchase and there has been radio silence, despite chasing this up as well. I was given the excuse initially that they were closed over Christmas, which is fair enough, I don’t expect them to answer emails on their annual leave. However, I was also off work over Christmas, when I returned to my place of work, I didn’t ignore every email I had received in that period. Bitterly disappointed

Considering the sort of restaurant this is, the service was terrible. The only redeeming quality was that the food was good (but not the best again, considering the price). Originally enticed in for Welsh cuisine, we thought the restaurant may have been too upscale for a family setting but was proven wrong. Menu items were different to what was advertised on their website, so dishes we wanted weren't available. Elevator was not operational, making access for a pushchair and person with broken leg hard. Servers were not attentive of our table, with drinks taking a long time to come and food arriving an hour after our arrival. They seemed more occupied messing around with the female server around the corner. Drinks offered were not in stock and a bottle of water ordered was forgotten. Though this was removed from our bill. One of the dishes ordered was not made up, again removed from the bill though I would have hoped so as we never got it. When food was delivered, the server dropped two wedges of hot butter onto our belongings. A steak knife was given to our 5 year old. The food was relatively good, though the potted pork dish was very dry. Quite insulting as well after the obvious poor service they had the audacity to put a service charge on the bill. We had them removed this. Next time I am making my own Rarebit!

2 people for Sunday lunch, starters were great and so were the drinks, beef was very dry, roast potatoes were awful, cabbage was water and parsnips and carrots were mushy, for the money it’s not hard to roast and season veg, Yorkshire and cauli was lovely

Lovely intimate dining experience, lovely to go to a place where you could actually share conversation with friends without music blaring over the speakers like so many of the restaurants that end of cardiff now. The food was delicious and a real treat but for us our server really made the experience. He was professional and warm and couldn’t have done enough for us. An asset to the business.

We was quite disappointed with the meals. I had goats cheese and beetroot salad which I was looking forward to and when it was put in front me I could just see the goats cheese it was a tiny slither 😢 my husband had oxtail bonbons which were dry, it needed a sauce. Mains was ok nothing to rave about and dessert again I think could have been nicer. Menu choice on one page nothing like the menu we saw on line.

Have not been here for a while but was really disappointed with Sunday dinner. Tough leathery Yorkshire pudding, second class cuts of meat e.g pork belly and beef flank. Veg was average. The potted pig starter was the star of the meal but the rest showed that standards have slipped badly. The staff were very friendly but that did not make up for a very average meal. This used to be a go to for excellence but no longer. You can find much better Sunday roasts in many Cardiff pubs for much less. Did not complain at the time as it was a Birthday meal but a big let down on previous standards. One star for the meal (but another for the friendly staff.)

A lovely venue in Cardiff city centre serving delicious high quality food and drinks! We had a Xmas lunch there and I’m looking forward to going back to try more of their menu!

What an amazing experience! Where to start. As a family with allergies we were more than catered for and reassured. Service was impeccable, atmosphere was the right balance of chatter without being overwhelming. The food was exceptional and the wine and cocktails complimented the food perfectly. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

I was really underwhelmed, whilst the service was nice, it was very slow and we felt neglected. The food was tasty, but very expensive. My steak was absolutely stunning quality but was served in with two tiny sprigs of broccoli and the most dry chips ever. I left them, which meant I really didn’t eat much as the plates are incredibly small. I felt a bit ripped off and couldn’t wait to leave as it just made me feel uncomfortable to have felt a bit neglected and then pay a considerable amount for a very small amount of food.

Very sad to see the Potted Pig has gone down hill. The food is very overpriced for what you are served. The staff are very welcoming and polite but this is not the main reason for returning to a restaurant. The portion size and quality has sadly diminished, as like many other established restaurants struggling in the current cost of living crises. In the past you would have sampled delicious food here for a reasonable price but the food portions, produce and quality have sadly been comprimised and in my experience this will only lead to customers not returning, like ourselves. There are so many beautiful and value for money restaurants in Cardiff now to choose from, so I am surprised that this restaurant is sadly playing this game of self sabotage, especially when you have an amazing restaurant like Pasture right opposite. After paying £160 for the two of us we sadly left feeling hungry and disappointed as this was a wonderful place to dine in the past. Please do your research when dining in Cardiff.

We had a lovely late lunch. Food and wine were superb and can’t fault a thing. Thanks to Sim for being so welcoming. Decent portions and high value for the quality of meals we had.

Quite disappointed with the roast dinner, we paid £30 each for 2 courses (ended up being closer to £35 with service charge) so had fairly high expectations… the lamb shoulder, cabbage, and mint sauce were all nice, however the rest of the dinner was not what you would expect for this price, the roast potatoes were definitely reheated (and still cold), of which we were also only given two potatoes each! Overall surprised at the standard given the price and such high reviews on here, very much doubt we will be returning.

My son booked this as a treat he was visiting from USA. The food & service were very disappointing, certainly not worth the price paid. We never complained as didn’t want to upset our son. We just won’t go back.

My partner and I ate dinner at The Potted Pig as part of a birthday celebration. The greeting was warm and welcoming, and the service throughout the meal was very engaging, the waiter sharing personal insights on the food and drink choices. The food was incredibly delicious. Appetisers were super tasty and just the right sized portions. For mains,we chose the lamb belly and pork belly with several sides to accompany these. There were some gorgeous wines to choose from to accompany the food. My partner is enjoying a break from alcohol, but there were plenty of great AF options for her to enjoy. Dessert and the cheeseboard was just as stunning as the rest of the meal. I was so happy that they included enough crackers with the cheese - it’s amazing how many restaurants don’t. Overall, we had a hugely enjoyable evening here - the staff were incredibly friendly and engaging, the ambience was perfect and the food was just delicious. We couldn’t have asked for more! If you’re in Cardiff, definitely try The Potted Pig!

I recently had lunch at a restaurant where I enjoyed a Pork Sandwich with Madras Mayo, served with a small salad and fries. It was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I highly recommend this place for a great dining experience!

Wow! just superb First time here, on a recommendation Doorway leads downstairs to an old bank vault, beautifully & tastefully redecorated. Welcome and service throughout was second to none, also a lovepy atmosphere. Then the food, delicious! Had the Potted pig starter followed by Lamb belly and we shared a side of pomme puree too,nhubny ate a scallop & chorizo starter followed by the same mains (his starter was small by comparison but made up by taste! Neither of us had room for dessert (I think I eill go for the smaller starter to leave room next time!) Good selection of drinks too, non alcoholic cider for hubby and a beautiful white Rioja for myself. Had a look in their wine cellar too! If you want a lovely evening with great food and service, go here!! I will definately be going back!

Walked in off the street, wasn’t sure if we would stay but the smell of the food drew us in . The food is excellent , we just went with a share plate to start with . Pork belly was bloody beautiful. Went into the mains , the venison for me and the stuffed chicken for my wife . We loved it and great sides . Deserts were also very good. A great Tempranillo supported the meal beautifully. Great vibe and engaging service.

I was a little put off by some recent mixed reviews but my wife and I found the Sunday lunchtime experience 1st class. Th service throughout was friendly and efficient and the food of a consistently high standard (and plentifu)l. The cost is a little higher than we would normally pay but we both felt it was worth it for the service and food we received.

Great location in the centre of town situated in the Vault of an old bank. Great Sunday lunch offer good quality representing reasonable value. Service very friendly and appropriate.

If you want to try traditional Welsh food but in a more sophisticated atmosphere this is definitely the place to go! Great food and services. Would recommend book it in advance cause it gets pretty busy!

My bf originally wanted to come here for our dinner on Saturday but we couldn’t find a table for the day so we came on the Sunday to make a reservation for later on. Luckily they had a table for us as someone had cancelled earlier on in the day, which was perfect for us. I got the Brown Butter Shrimp, Sourdough Toast and my bf got the Potted Pig, Pickles, Toasted Sourdough. For mains I got the Lamb Shoulder and my bf got the Cider Roasted Pork Belly. Each of our dishes came with roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, mixed greens & gravy. A Yorkshire pudding was included as well, which I wasn’t aware of, but was very happy to receive on the plate. The food tasted delicious and I would definitely want to try out the dishes from the other menus they offer. The staff here were also super friendly especially with finding us a spare table and getting us extra sauces for our dishes.

I ordered the steak. It was delicious but tiny. The salad had no dressing and the chips tasted too oily but my partner had the pork belly and it looked and tasted fantastic.

Me and my partner came in for dinner on Tuesday. The drinks were great, my partner had to get a second ‘Pigsty Martini’ because it was so good, the frosted glass was a lovely touch. Service was a little slow, about 50 minutes between finishing starters and getting mains, but we can appreciate there only seemed to be one girl taking orders and running food and one girl on the bar. The other foh members of staff were sat on laptops the whole time which we found to be a bit questionable. Starters were great, and we found the main dishes to be excellent, as well as the sides of potatoes and carrots - both of which were cooked perfectly and had a great flavour. My partner had the lamb and I had the pollock, both of which were very nice. I thought the pollock was cooked perfectly and I can’t say no to fennel with white fish; the samphire was a bit woody but I can appreciate seasonality. I thought it was a classic french take done well. Not too sure about the bowls because they did look a bit like dog bowls. The only thing we were a bit disappointed with was the rarebit on toast, it was very bland, claggy and all it really tasted of was Worcester sauce and flour. This was a real shame because the sourdough was lovely. We did let the server know we were underwhelmed and she responded with ‘that’s okay!’ so we weren’t sure if she misheard us. We did look at the dessert menu but nothing stood out to us which was a shame. Overall, it was a really pleasant dining experience; lovely atmosphere and some lovely food. We hope to return!

My boyfriend and I showed up for Sunday lunch without a reservation and were seated without any issues. The atmosphere was lovely and staff were super accommodating and friendly! We came wanting to try some Welsh dishes and everything we ordered was delicious! Great experience and good value for money 😋

We were a table of 7. We pre-booked and on arrival at 6.30 were told we had a 2-hour slot, finishing at 8.30. We ordered our starters and these came at 7.35. We then waited until 8.40 for our mains. The food was amazing, but the service was terrible. Our waitress was new to the job and did her very best and we have no complaints about her. The manager was extremely rude when we complained about how long we had waited. People had come in after us, had their meals and left before we had our main meals. We asked for a discount on our food and were told they would drop the air-charge - this is optional anyway??!!! We spent just under £400 and felt we were treated very badly and ignored for most of the time we were there. We had brought our own birthday cake to give to my step-daughter as this was the reason for our meal together - when we asked for plates we were told that we would be charged £5 per slice of cake we dished up!!! Unbelievable as we had all had starters and mains so most of us wouldn’t have gone for a sweet anyway - surely nearly £400 spent was enough to allow us to have a piece of cake each??? The food was amazing, but the managerial level of service made this a bad experience for us all. We won’t be returning.

2h slot 6.30 till 8.30 .starter came 7.35.then main came 8.40. Paid car park 18 quid till 9pm . When complained about time it took for main.told OK don't pay service charge blamed my party for ordering wrong stake medium rare.not true.jules I belive was rude and dismissive .saying short staff .table behind us were given bread olives platter as apogy Nothing for my party of 7.we spent a few hundred pounds there..we had a birthday cake we took asked for side plates. They wanted to charge 35 pounds to eat our own cake.

Food was good well done to the chefs, unfortunately very let down by the staff, well manager jewels. 1.5 hour wait, she was very argumentative. Shame about the manager or I would return 1star due to experience with her, not the food food 4.5 stars

Pre booked group in advance, on arrival taken to table. after enquiring why the meal had not arrived, was given dry olive bread to keep us quiet. after 2 hrs the meals arrived. The manageress told us she was buisy, and they were short of a chef - not all the tables was full and we were not informed prior to arriving, she had an attitude all the other staff were polite.

I was incredibly disappointed by The Potted Pig. The prices are extortionate given the tiny portion sizes and lack of taste and seasoning in the food. I couldn't believe it was the same place I came to around the same time a year ago. I was impressed then, but now they seem to have become a victim of their own success and it is very obvious in the poor quality of their food. The duck leg starter was as dry as a desert and not particularly tasty, and the braised lamb belly felt very cheap and fatty. We were both unhappy and felt misled. I left The Potted Pig starving and ended up going to Taco Bell just to fill myself up. I paid 1/8th of the price of The Potted Pig on Taco Bell and it was better. What a crazy world we live in.

Such good food & atmosphere with really incredible staff…a very special experience at such an important time and we cam’t say a big enough thank you 🙏 Brilliant at catering for allergies too and I had my own menu printed out. Can’t wait to come again and highly recommend this amazing restaurant in Cardiff to everyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Potted Pig - the service was outstanding even before we arrived. We were unavoidably late for our reservation, and when I called ahead to let them know they were brilliant about it. I have coeliac disease, so I'd emailed beforehand to double check that they could safely cater for me. They got back quickly and confirmed. When we arrived, they had a GF menu ready for me, and I felt safe and looked after, but it was all done in an understated way. Plenty of choice on the menu for me, and all the food (and the gin!) was delicious. Lovely atmosphere, relaxed and friendly; no pretension, just gorgeous food. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend.

We went on recommendation but were disappointed. Food was acceptable but potion size were very small. Spent a quiet deal of money but ended up having to get a KFC bucket to fill up. Also very dark and hence not a family friendly venue at all. If you are drinking alcohol, it would probably be fine. Service was not fantastic for the price.

This was a great independant restaurant in central Cardiff, very good quality food, excellent wine list and relaxed atmosphere. Very well priced for the quality of food and service we received.

5th time visiting this place for me and my wife; we had our first date here, engagement celebratory meal, pre-baby meal, a spontaneous meal and most recently, a meal to celebrate our eldest daughters school report (truthfully she’s a bit young to fully enjoy it, but she was desperate to go). The most recent time 15th Aug, was great, lunch was delicious we opted for the lunch deal. The staff were brilliant with our daughter and although there isn’t a kids menu, they were happy to whip up something that we asked for from the menu, in a more child friendly way! Great food, great service and lovely atmosphere!

We visited here on a busy Sunday. The staff greeted us warmly and we were seated straight away (we booked). The food was delicious. With very generous portions and doggy bag available! Special mention for the veg and the Yorkies. We waited almost an hour for food, but they came very quickly with it when I asked.

We ended up reserving here based on the recommendation of the Cardiff tourism website and we are so glad we did! We came with a 2.5 year old, 14 year old and two adults and Molly and her team were more than accommodating. The wine list was quaint but well selected and the restaurant is absolutely charming and chic. However, it was the food that was really stunning with only local ingredients and a superb presentation of different flavors on each dish we had. The Potted Pig would definitely be a first recommendation for anyone visiting and stopping in for dinner or even a quick bite and cocktail. Thank you for the great hospitality!

One of the best Sunday roasts we've ever had!

Great meal on our last night in Cardiff, the ambiance was nice.

We ate a Sunday Roast in this restaurant. The cuisine was, indeed, as expected, authentic, simple and generous, like at home. However, the service was quite slow and the place, although having been recommended by the Michelin guide for many years, was not out of the ordinary.

The food was so good. The pork belly was super succulent and tasted great. The lamb was also divine. We would recommend going for the sharing platter as it’s better value for money and you get to try all of the meats. The service was great, Scarlet made sure we were happy with everything. She also came over with some extra gravy literally a few seconds after we’d finished… what a touch! Thanks guys keep up the good work

We tried a 3-course Sunday menu. All of them extremely tasty and very well served. Very much so. I was in Wales for a weekend and while researching I found this option that was really worth it!

A fabulous meal from start to finish. I started with the meatloaf - oh my goodness, I could have just kept eating that, it was delicious, main course was Moroccan spiced lamb belly – again delicious with just the right amount of spice. I did not think I had room for dessert, but I went for the cheese board and I can honestly say, I have never had such generous portions of different cheeses. The whole meal was superb. The front of house staff were welcoming and friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness. Our drinks order was taken promptly whilst we perused the menu choices, we did not have to wait too long between courses (despite it being busy) and our meal arrived lovely and hot. All in all, a lovely evening – we will be back

A lovely evening at the Potted Pig. The food is intentionally very rich so, after also having starters, ordering sides with the mains meant we couldn’t quite finish all the food. Had very attentive and friendly service, regularly checking in that we were ok and whether we needed anything. Thankfully, after a nice reset after our mains we both managed to find space in our desert tummy’s and the sticky orange cake was excellent!

Absolutely some of the most delicious food we’ve had in a long time. So impressed with the quality and creativity of the dishes. Service was impeccable. We can see why this place is so highly recommended. We would travel to Cardiff JUST to eat at this restaurant again. Well done.

Delicious potted pig and sirloin steak for lunch. The servers were warm and pleasant to welcome me right at lunch opening. The ambiant was luxurious and pleasant. Glad to have stumbled upon this place and recommend it to everyone.

The Potted Pig 🐖 hosted my recent birthday party for 16 guests, family and friends. Right from the booking for the venue, a private dining 🍽 room, they were very flexible and accommodating. The food was a delight to the palette. Nice exotic dishes 😍 😋 Awesome ambience. Kind and gracious hospitality and staff. Would highly recommend for your next private party 🥳 🎉 😜.
