The Sorting Room in Cardiff

Visited the sorting room with my partner for our anniversary. The food was amazing and the service was next level, Massimilano couldn’t do enough for us, he was brilliant! Will definitely be back

We had a fab time at our Thermal Suite session and lunch, would highly recommend. Thank you especially to Massimiliano who went out of his way to arrange an alternative Vegetarian meal for my friend in The Sorting Room, nothing was too much trouble.

We booked a Lavish Lunch and spa thermal pool which was amazing. We were served by massimiliano at the Sorting Room. He went above and beyond as I didn’t like the vegetarian option. He arranged for me to have another meal. Both the starter and man meal was lovely. Great service

Attentive service and a wonderful Sunday lunch. Beef perfectly cooked and sides were delicious and plentiful. Lovely ambience with some live music playing. My friend was made to feel very special with a free cocktail and dessert for her birthday. With half a bottle of wine per person included it was excellent value for money and we can’t wait to return

Myself and my partner came to the Parkgate Hotel for Lavish Lunch and Spa. The inside of the hotel is absolutely lovely and not quite what you'd expect from the outside looking in - very nice atmosphere and we had lunch booked at The Sorting Room. The restaurant has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere which was only heightened by the staff. We had the absolute joy of having Massimiliano as our server who did an amazing job of looking after us. Did a perfect job of entertaining us and describing parts of the menu to us - provided a service with an amazing attitude which is quite rare to find these days, we hope to come again in the future to see him and try more of what the menu has to offer. We found the set menu had a decent amount of selection to choose from, myself and my partner were very happy with our choices. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely exceeded. Considering the very reasonable price of the lavish lunch and spa offered by the Parkgate Hotel, it does feel like you're getting such great quality for what you've paid for. Nonetheless, the prices on the set menu during the week are incredibly priced for 2 or 3 course meals. Would definitely recommend and will definitely look to return again.

We ate here on a Friday night. It wasn't very busy unfortunately which was a shame as the food and decor was beautiful. To start we had the scotch egg and the scallops, the food was all beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. For main we had the steak pie and the steak. The pie- one word - WOW! It was enormous, the pastry the best I have ever tasted but unfortunately I couldn't finish it all such was the size. (Not a criticism though at all) We also had dessert of sticky toffee pudding and a peanut butter parfait. The parfait was very rich and decadent. Overall we had a pleasant night.

The hostless didn’t look us in the eye even once. She poured water all over the table when trying to fill our glasses and left it unwiped, no one took our coats so we were in this nice restaurant chair which was low and coats sweeping the floor. Made some noise and someone came collected. The waiter didn’t know anything about the menu, had to go keep checking the kitchen. Food was mediocre. Bread and butter was lovely, absolutely amazing. I had the chicken and Sam had the lamb both were underwhelming. I have crème brûlée for desert and that was really good. Overall I’d give it a 5/10.

Following an overnight stay, we booked in for Sunday Lunch which I’m so glad we did as it didn’t disappoint. We was seated by Casper who was friendly and welcoming. Drinks order was taken efficiently and our waiter was attentive, efficient, polite and very helpful, on point with everything and very friendly. I wish I had taken his name just to give him a mention but didn’t, all i can say is he wore his hair tied back and was working Sunday 18th Feb during the afternoon time. Food was exceptional and the servings for the Sunday lunch was more than enough. The beef was so tasty and the vegetables cooked perfectly. Honestly it’s the best roast we’ve had in a long time. Each course was amazing, no complaints whatsoever. Will definitely return and highly recommend - thanks all!

We loved this place. Fabulous surroundings and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and a special shout out for Tom and Choli who looked after us all evening. Will definitely return when we are back in Cardiff.

We had Dinner, Bed & Breakfast at the Park Gate Hotel. Everything was lovely, great atmosphere, amazing food, we will definitely be returning. It was a great spot with lots of really nice drinks. I loved it and I would definitely recommend it. The bartends are also really friendly.

Came in today for a drink with my 4 year old daughter and was served by Adam. I had a cappuccino (stunning) and my daughter had a Diet Coke. Adam was great and was very friendly towards us both. I was a little surprised at the cost of the drinks, with a small Diet Coke (200ml) costing the average price of a pint of lager, but it was a very nice visit regardless and again Adam's service made it worth the cost.

Always excellent service and atmosphere. We were served by Michael and received fantastic service. A great spot in Cardiff for drinks and to stay for a weekend in Cardiff. Perfect location.

We visited a Saturday lunchtime and we were greeted promptly. As previous reviews mention, the decor and ambience is lovely and we were very comfortable with our table for four. From the outset service was very attentive, professional and friendly, especially Adri who was amazing! The food was definitely one of the best meals we have ever had, all dishes were presented impeccably and were delicious. Although the lunch set menu is not available on weekends I thought it was good value for what we had. The steaks were cooked to perfection as was the lamb and risotto, all of these are highly recommended! The wine choice is varied and we particularly enjoyed the Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. We have been to a lot of restaurants and this is very much one of our favourites, we are already planning our next visit!

Massimiliano our waiter was incredible, very attentive and went the extra mile to make sure we had a lovely time. Can't fault the service one bit. The food was amazing, a bit pricey but would 100% come back for special occasions.

We went for my girlfriends birthday and had an amazing time. It's one of the only restaurants to serve beef wellington in Cardiff and it was excellent. Lovely environment and ambiance with attentive service (although the dessert took 25 minutes to reach our table). The food - expensive, £57 for a portion of beef wellington?? The meat was tough and not of the quality expected. As for vegetarian options, they were few and far between. Butternut squash soup followed by butternut squash risotto anyone? The meals lacked flavour and seasoning. A ‘superfood’ salad was no nicer than something you might buy in a plastic container at a supermarket. As a treat I would say that The Ivy is both cheaper and far nicer. Even the desserts were flavourless.

Me and my boyfirend visited the sorting room restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lovely warm welcome. When we were looking over the menu we were given a 2 complimentary drinks to say happy anniversary. Katie C was very professional at explaining what the coctail was and had a lovely manner when taking our food orders. Helped us feel very relaxes. I would highly recommend the beef Wellington it was just amazing. When we thought our speical night couldn't get any better Kim came over with a celebration cake and wished us a happy anniversary. I would really like to thank Kim for making our anniversary meal so special as she went above and beyond to make sure everything was okay with our meal and even take a snap of us with our celebration cake. What wonderful customer service we will defiantly be back.

Very welcoming staff members and high class service. Lush place with best dinner, so far I experienced at hotel restaurant in Cardiff! At the start of our experience we had accidentally booked our meal for am not pm, but the staff were incredibly kind and helpful and made space for us. We were served by the lovely Adri. She gave us complimentary birthday drinks and desert which was very kind of her! The whole team of staff were very friendly and polite. The food was amazing, compliments to the chef for the octopus especially! We will definitely be recommending to others to dine here. The 2 course menu is great value during the week and the standard of food is exceptional. Lots of choice on the menu and the cauliflower soup is my recommendation for something a bit different but very tasty
