Yamas Meze and Tapas in Nottingham

Yamas, Like a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor, this place is very disappointing and poor. I visited this restaurant around 1 year ago with my Son and wife,,, we had a great time nice food great ambience. Fast forward to today, my day off , 7-2-25. Was a little apprehensive about going here tbh, booked on line, I have a bad hip, so we needed a table downstairs preferably not near the door,,, ( it is February ) They put us quite near the door, o, but I let that go,,,,. We knew pretty much what we wanted, off the Lunch Menu,, £15, for 3 Tapas off a very select menu,,,. So we ordered x 2 off that menu. Dishes came out , Luke warm/ shrivelled , right,here we go,, the Chorizo Con Miel was tough and chewy, the Pinchos de Pollo was fatty and tough, the flat bread was cold and let’s say not soft, ( for a flat bread), and to finish , what I was looking forward to the Calamari,,, which as you can see from our photos, very pale, skinny & un appetising, ( plz check google images for Calamari ) . Pattas Bravas looked microwaved with hardly any sauce,. Service was not very welcoming, when mentioning how we was unhappy his reaction was ah sorry,,, we received a 10% discount,,, poor,,, . To conclude ,,, been here before brilliant, been now, absolutely terrible, food is really poor, service when faced with a complaint is ,,, ah sorry,,’ Really not good enough for me at all,,, will not be going back here ever, and will be telling everyone I know not to either, Words of Wisdom,,,, Don’t let your success be your downfall,,,

Absolutely brilliant dining experience from start to finish. A friendly welcome and all the staff attentive and so friendly. Helped us with our choices and when the food came it was absolutely delicious. Real authentic Greek dishes. Had the Feta filo parcels with hummus and Greek flat bread to start. Lamb Tagine, Beef Stifado and Dauphinoise Potatoes to follow all absolutely delicious. Baklava and Homemade Greek Chocolate Biscuit cake for dessert. Couldn’t fault a thing. My favourite place to eat in Nottingham and will be back soon. Highly recommend eating here. Thank you for a lovely evening

Ordered take away….wow! Portion sizes huge. Ordered the meze for 2. Soooo much food. Fresh and hot! We’ve eaten here many times over the years and the take away is just as good! Defo be ordering again! King prawns, really generous amount, the chicken and potatoes were Devine. Best takeaway I’ve had in ages!!!

Being generous with three stars. It’s not clear nor did the waitress say the mains do not come with rice, pitta, salad etc as you would expect. So we ordered our food only to be presented with very small mains and nothing to go with it. Ordered sides when the main arrived but took so long the food was cold by the time the sides arrived. Would I recommend, probably not, manager and waitress didn’t seem bothered about our issue.

This is a little gem in the heart of Nottingham city centre. Fans of Mediterranean cuisine should be completely satisfied, the food is on another level, perfectly spiced and portions are just right. You might even have room for dessert depending on how much you order from the tapas style menu! 2-3 dishes per person from across the board is plenty. The lamb is outstanding, cooked perfectly until it just melts in your mouth!

A Christmas dinner needing more staff and options. As part of a large party we had a good time but some improvements could be made. I was a veg candidate as the meat is not halal. We were a large group - a challenge for any restaurant. The starters were quite delayed and part of the challenge I feel was the amount of staff as we were upstairs with only two staff for over 40 people. This I feel was the main issue as the two we had were clearly working hard. With a mix of veg and meat customers the meat starters were eaten before the vegetarians were served and the establishments penchant for allocating portions confusing. The flavour was nice with a lovely garlic beetroot Meze and houmous. The first line starters were OK with a single rock shaped felafal and herby patty per person. The main veg was an interesting dickensian style pea pudding and pasty. The baklava was delicious but could be improved by not being served fridge cold-even if with ice cream l. The food was tasty and by the end of it I was full but I wouldn't eat here again unless I was a meat eater.

Muy discreto decoración, bienvenida amable del tipo detrás de la mesa. Lamentablemente el servicio y la experiencia se deterioraron muy rápidamente después de este punto. La camarera extremadamente grosera y agresiva nos hizo sentir a mí y a mi familia extremadamente incómodos. Empujando para que ordenemos como si fuéramos un inconveniente! No nos ayudó o nos habló a través de ninguna opción de menú o especiales incluso cuando se le pidió. Ella realmente arruinó la experiencia y la noche para nosotros y nunca volveré. La comida era tan - así que, en medio de la carretera, robusto y extremadamente caro para lo que se obtiene. Realmente no recomiendo este lugar, evite si le gusta recibir un buen servicio amable.

Very understated decor, friendly welcome from the chap behind the desk. Sadly the service and experience deteriorated very quickly after this point. Extremely rude and pushy waitress made myself and my family feel extremely uncomfortable. Pushing for us to order as though we were an inconvenience! Didn’t help or talk us through any menu options or specials even when prompted. She really ruined the experience and evening for us and I shall never return. The food was so-so, middle of the road, stodgy and extremely over priced for what you get. I really do not recommend this place, avoid if you like to receive a good friendly service

Came with a big group from work. We were seated upstairs, the food was fantastic, staff were lovely and we had a brilliant time. Highly recommend.

Fabulosa comida, recién cocinada. Personal servicial encantador y un ambiente relajado. Estábamos sentados arriba, que no es tan inteligente como la zona de estar de abajo, pero es un poco más tranquilo. Realmente disfrutamos y sin duda volvería.

Mi hermana, mi sobrina y yo estuvimos allí ayer para almorzar. Mi sobrina se enfermó (se desmayó afuera) y el personal era fenomenal. Salieron corriendo con una silla, nos ayudaron a sacarla del pavimento y le dieron agua. Cuando volvimos a entrar le trajeron una botella de Coca-Cola para ayudar con sus niveles de azúcar. Nos preguntaron varias veces a lo largo de nuestra visita si ella estaba bien. Fueron realmente dulces y atentos por lo que estamos muy agradecidos. Cuando llegamos, algunos clientes que se fueron dijeron “estás en un regalo” y qué razón tenían. Tomamos las tapas y fue INCREÍBLE. El ambiente era animado y en general fue un almuerzo muy agradable. Sin duda volveremos cuando visitemos Nottingham. Una vez más un gran agradecimiento por cuidar de Aimee x

Dined here last night and found it generally average. Service was confused by multiple people trying to serve us and the left hand clearly not knowing what the right hand was doing. The food average and very overpriced. Basic Grilled dishes came with nothing and everything had to be added....this bloated the price. Feel better food options exist elsewhere.

Wow! Officially the best food we have had in Notts! We all got a couple/few dishes each and not one disappointed. Nothing short of extremely tasty delicious and beautiful food. The restaurant itself is really lovely and in a great location. I am already planning on coming back and bringing more people!

Total waste of time. Booked a table online only to be told when arriving at the restaurant that they hadn't actually made the booking their end. A bloke who I assume is the manager/owner came over and condescendingly said that a table for a Saturday needs to be booked a week in advance, and they need 24 hours to confirm any bookings. I'm baffled why they have a booking system if it doesn't actually work? Surely only offer booking slots for spaces that are actually available? The food may well be fantastic so I don't want to comment on that, but I won't bother trying to go back to find out.

Booked a table by the website in August and received confirmation of booking. When arrived did not have a table ready. They found a very small table in a corner that was not made up and placed us there. Food was very good as always when I have visited this restaurant. However we were ignored for the evening and forgotten about. We were not offered anymore drinks, dessert or coffee. They cleared all the restaurant around us and it got very late so we just paid and left. Put me off going again.

Best Greek food in Nottingham. The Chicken Souvlaki is always very good. Also recommend the Gambas and the Spanakopita.

our 1st visit here. we ordered a gyros bowl and 3 meze dishes. food was beautiful very tasty and very filling. we would highly recommend and will definately return. very nice atmosphere and very busy for a saturday lunchtime.

Went for anniversary dinner to a historically amazing restaurant with home-style cooked Mediterranean food which we have enjoyed for many years. Sadly disappointed in the quality of food today 😮‍💨 ordered Kleftico and received a dry, unsauced, unseasoned lamb shank on a plate with a wedge of lemon. Totally unjustifiable to then charge £11.50! On the plus side, can't fault service of the staff. Will not be returning anytime soon 💔

I called to reserve a table prior to eating there. We arrived to the restaurant, after walking around the city centre for hours and my friend still had in her hand the cup from a bubble tea she had drank earlier. We got through the door and said a very polite and friendly hello to the man who was there and after I explained we had reserved a table, the only thing he said to us before even saying hello was " You're not allowed with that in here", pointing to the cup my friend was holding. I would've left the restaurant immediately after that rudness but we had another friend who was meeting us there so it was too late to change plans. We came to spend our hard worked money in your restaurant and I find it unacceptable for one of your employees to speak like that to a customer, regardless of what your rules are. There are different ways to go about it and I know that from experience, having also worked in the restaurant industry. The food was actually tasty and the portions were reasonable for a tapas place. But even with good food, I would still not go back, there was a weird and very rigid energy in the restaurant.

When I arrived at the restaurant I was abruptly told by a waitress that my food wasn't ready and the chefs hadn't turned the ovens on yet. My 'Just Eat' app stated my food was ready to collect. I said it was fine and I'd come back in 10 mins to collect my food, to which she responded " it will be longer than that". The lady's colleague looked shocked at the way I was being spoken to and told the waitress to go find out more about my wait time. It's a real shame as the food was great.

Second time here, this time with my teams celebrating successful milestone delivery. Good food, service did well considering a table of 12 and reasonably priced. Recommend if you want a place to dine with family / friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Early dinner before a comedy show, wanted to try here because one of party is a vegetarian and the range of dishes on offer for her was very good. Delighted us all - what a find! Lovely, friendly staff and a cheerful but relaxed atmosphere. Great service and food advice, oh and the food! Fabulously varied and tasty, that lamb tagine was heaven on a plate, especially with lemon rice too, but everything was so good. All the little dishes over the table, we all tried many things and we all want to come back. That limoncello was lovely too. :-D Thank you Yamas, you were amazing.

We are/were regulars to Yamas after going the Cyprus many times and wanting to enjoy the Greek food back home too. The food its-self is fantastic and cannot not say anything bad about it but… the prices are well over the top. We have been going for years now and sent many people there to taste the food but recently a huge increase in costs have made once an enjoyable meal, now too much compared to other restaurants with larger plates and just as tasty food for much less. I have also deducted stars from my review due to the grumpy and arrogant staff (not all of them). Mainly it’s the women who have such an attitude for some reason! We last went as 3 couples and one of us were not sure what came with the dish so she asked, only to be met with a sharp and sarcastic answer. After ordering, she then came with the drinks and was slamming them to the table in a huff and didn’t even try to match who’s drunk was for who. After the meal we wanted to workout the bill into what each couple had which always takes a few extra minutes. The lady came over 3 times within a few moments of us getting the bill and each time we asked her to give us abit more time, she would go off in a huff and eyes rolled but then talking to her other waitress in their language while blatantly looking over at us. Also watch out for the 10% service charge they work into the price…it’s not bloody America and they definitely dont deserve it!

She gave us good recommendations with the menu and even came out with a recommended dessert free of charge! But also everyone on the team we came across in the evening were so friendly. The dishes we had were: Rosemary Potatoes Fried Halloumi Spanakopitta Albondigas con Queso - Meatballs in a rich tomato sauce with Manchego Cheese Solomillo Marinado - marinated ribeye skewers Stifado - beef casserole Moussaka Raspberry and Pistachio Semifreddo Kormos Mosaiko - a traditional chocolate biscuit cake Kourabies - almond shortbread cookies Everything was outstanding! It was hard to pick favourites as it was all so delicious. So our highlights were the Moussaka, the meatballs and the Semifreddo and the Kormos Mosaiko. The meal ended with a shot of Ouzo from the owner. Who also told us some lovely stories and experiences he had. We all left feeling beyond happy with the evening. The food was 10/10. The service was 10/10. The atmosphere was 10/10. Perfect all around! Thanks to the team at Yamas.

Visited with 4 girlfriends this Wednesday evening. Outstanding food and service. Friendly, helpful and have great advice on food and wine 😊 Ordered the Mezze for 4 plus an additional main & side. Was plenty enough for all of us. Would definitely recommend.

We visited yesterday for our 1st wedding anniversary. We got married in Cyprus so this seemed the perfect place to reminisce. We were blown away by the friendliness and kindness of the staff. Such a warm atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and authentic. We can't wait to come back!! Such a gem of a place!!

Booked a table for dinner on the recommendation of a local gallery owner and weren't disappointed. We had the vegetarian Meze for two. While every dish was delicious the quantity was almost overwhelming! One meze would have fed both of us more than adequately. Fortunately the staff offered us a handful of "takeaway" containers and a carrier bag so nothing got wasted! The Greek red wine is also good value and goes well with the food.

Ah what a place this is. Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food, fantastic staff. We had a shared starter which was delicious, I had two smaller plates for my main, beautiful Greek style sausages and some absolutely delicious ribeye steak. The rosemary potatoes were fantastic. My Wife had some incredible lamb too. We will definitely come back when we are in Nottingham next. I forget our waiters name, but he was a brilliant host.

2nd time here as 1st time was so good but we left being disappointed. Female staff were rude and foods were half standard compared to my 1st time experience. I order the same as my 1st time and this time the portion size was half. 7 of us were here to celebrate leaving do. One of our colleague faced childcare issues which meant they’re running late but the female staff who look after our tablet said if our colleague is late they won’t able to order any foods because kitchen will be too busy and rushing us to place our drinks and foods. 8th colleague didn’t turn up because we were told no foods will be served for them. We felt so unwelcome! 0 - stars if I could Witnessed a 15+ people sat a table behind us. They had people coming late constantly in and out until we finish our foods. The exact female staff didn’t once complain why they have people turning up late and not placing their foods order! Disgusting customer service - though i found a decent restaurant in Nottingham but what a waste of money to be treated this way.

Yamas is a family run restaurant in Nottingham city centre, the food is delicious and staff are wonderful!

Average food, but what made it worse was how dirty it was, from the thick black dust on the skirting to the food and grease splatter on the walls where you are sat. The toilets were no better, would not go back.

I would not return again. Service initially seemed good but the basics lacked. It took three times of asking to literally just get tap water even though we had ordered other drinks at the same time. Servers just walked past. Staff are also very presumptuous. Personally, the food was overpriced. 11 quid for chicken on a skewer with nothing else. Food was also really bland so overall disappointing, definitely better options for eating.

Had the Meze deal for lunch and all of it was so good! The beef in the Stifado was very tender and my patatas bravas and spanakopita were amazing. Staff were polite and prompt, it just got very busy...which I guess just goes to show how popular it is.

One of the best restaurant meals I have eaten at any price point. As good as anything I’ve eaten in Greece. Booking essential as very busy.

Had a wonderful meal at Yamas before a concert. The taste of the olives made me wished for a visit to Greece islands since my last trip decades ago. The highlight of the evening was the oven baked moussaka - lovely flavours with crispy edges...heavenly. The grilled octopus was done perfectly...crispy charred skin yet tender and juicy. The falafel with hummus was great combination of chickpeas & aromatic herbs...heavenly when paired with a Pinot Grigio. Lamb Souvlaki was tender with a crispy charred edge. Great with the tzatziki, a Greek youghurt sauce. The staff were warm & friendly. They also explained how the dish was done. Great value too as the cost was less than £80, including a bottle of wine, for three persons. This place deserves a strong recommedation.

After reading the reviews we were really excited to try out Yamas but I’m sad to say that despite the staff being friendly and welcoming the food was a complete let down. Everything we ordered was sub par and flavourless. Wish them the best but won’t be attending again sadly.
