The food looks excellent here but unfortunately I never got to try it. I went in late morning for a coffee and a snack and chose a croque monsieur from the menu. I then took a table and waited. The coffee arrived after ten minutes and cutlery was placed on the table, suggesting that the main course was about to follow. Not a bit of it. I waited a further twenty minutes and having lost my patience, went to the counter to ask what had happened to my croque monsieur. My order had evidently been completely overlooked. I offered to pay for the coffee but they waived the charge, which I felt was the least they could do and apologies were forthcoming. However, I left the wine bar feeling disappointed and angry and I think that simply to overlook a customer's order was unprofessional and unacceptable. I will not be going back.

Visited here for an afternoon tea with my husband for my birthday. We had called the day before and pre-booked, which is usually required for afternoon teas. Our waitress was really friendly and explained our afternoon tea menu really well. It included unlimited tea and coffee, and they have a great variety of teas and coffees to choose from. The food was absolutely delicious! They catered to my dietary requirements (vegetarian) and every single component was delicious. All for a very reasonable £18.00 each. I would 100% recommend everyone to visit here for an afternoon tea, you will love it!

1st time we have ever been to YCs Café, it was a surprise half birthday for my husband, afternoon tea with 8 of his friends...:):) OMG..... we have had afternoon tea in a few places and in all honesty this was one of the best, the food was very tasty and well presented, congrats Chef..., the serving staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was to much trouble, YCs is a very nice place with a relaxed atmosphere, dogs welcome, (big plus) disable access, parking, wi-fi and so on .... we will definitely visit again....:):) my only negative, it wasn't easy to find...we drove past it twice...LOL, some outside signage would be most helpful for those who don't know the area...(like me!) still gets 10/10 from me though :):)

We had lunch here on a Friday. My wife chose soup of the day which was mushroom garlic and bacon. Blooming lovely. Served with sour dough bread. I was feeling a little more hungry (I usually am) and chose the Dorset burger wide a side of potatoes. The burger arrived in a real brioche bun with bacon cheese salad and what was obviously a homemade burger. The sweetest of chutneys and sautéed cubed potatoes. I can honestly say this was the nicest tasting burger I have ever eaten. All of this was well presented and served by staff who enjoyed their job inaclean and pleasant restaurant. We will definitely visit again when in Dorchester.

The three tier cake stand had finger sandwiches, quiche, scones, jam, clotted cream with splendid homemade range of mini desserts and pastries. The scones, cakes etc were simply delicious. We sat outside as it was a nice afternoon and the young lady came out several times offering us fresh top up of tea. This is one of the best afternoon teas we have had. Went there with 13 others for a works outing. We selected from the menu and 3 of us selected grilled mackerel for starters. 2 of them arrived and couldn’t be eaten as the mackerel was more fresh than grilled. I spoke to the staff who went back into the kitchen, they returned and said that the mackerel was cured hence why it looked raw. I pointed out that the menu stated grilled mackerel fillet not cured mackerel fillet, whilst this was going on the 3rd order had been forgotten. Hopes raised for the main course which was chicken breast with vegetables and a cider sauce, again disappointing as the food for the majority of our group was barely like warm. There was so little cider sauce it was non existent which made the chicken breast very dry. The saving grace was the pear brownie as this was served cold which was correct so that was fine. The coffee was more like weak coffee water, we had to ask for steak knives to enable us to eat dinner, we were charged for items that were ordered and never delivered and the heating needs sorting out as only have the odd heater fan in the ceiling so if you sat under it you cooked whilst everyone else remained cold. Not somewhere I will be heading back too

We visited this cafe previously for coffee and cake and were very happy as the coffee was excellent and the cake was delicious. As a result, we returned to try breakfast....well what a let down! Appreciate it was a busy (ish) Friday morning but this is hardly Central London! We had to wait at least 10 minutes for our orders to be taken and our coffees arrived 10 minutes after that! We ordered a well done bacon sandwich on white bread and a sausage sandwich on white also (hardly complicated!) We then waited 40 minutes for them to arrive by which time we had finished our coffees and our appetites were rapidly disappearing! When they arrived, the “doorstep” bread promised on the menu had morphed into bog standard packet sliced bread and my Partners sandwich was on BROWN bread, not white which he hates! My bacon, which, I admit I asked for to be well done was so hard I almost broke a tooth and cold! We paid £12.60 for this rubbish and I should have complained, as I do if need be, but by then we were so late for an appointment in town we just paid vowing not to go back. Perhaps they were having an off day, we were lured here by the positive reviews, but with all the cafes in Brewery Square, they need to up their game to stay ahead of the competition. If this had been an expensive evening meal, and this had happened they would have received a minus star and a demand for a refund!

Visited this cafe for the first time today for a friends birthday. Mixed feelings I am sad to say. Although a handful of people arrived than were booked for, the staff were not totally accommodating. No extra food was offered, no one came over once the food and tea were brought to the table to ask if everything was ok or if we wanted more tea! My friend was very disappointed that the sandwiches and mini cakes were served on wooden boards and not on three tier cake stands. Plus, service with a smile would have been nice!!! I just feel that no one went out of their way to make sure my frien's birthday was extra special. On a positive, the food was nice, especially the fruit scones.

This restaurant has built up a good reputation locally in the short time it has been open and is usually fully booked so we were expecting something a bit special when we went. We were slightly disappointed. The place is nice enough, in a large modern building mainly occupied by an auctioneer close to the station. The restaurant is smart, decorated in what could best be described as smart-Mediterranean peasant style. The service was prompt and welcoming but, as it transpired, not very competent. We were give a table right beside the entrance door, which gave straight to the outside so everytime anyone came in or out some of our party were subject to an icy blast, it being a cold night. We asked for a change but were refused.

Visited this lovely cafe for lunch after looking at the lunch menu online. The food is very good, nothing to complain about there. Unfortunately the prices for the lunchtime menu online are a lot different to the price on the menu in the cafe, most of the main meals were £2 more expensive. £9:95 online. £11:95 in the cafe. Upon asking about the price difference the manager told me “it was the woman who updated the webpages fault”. He said “I don’t know what I pay her for”I thought this was a poor excuse and felt he should have done more to honor the prices advertised on line.So a pity to give it three stars because it’s a nice place to eat. Please get you prices sorted out!!!!

A group of 13 of us went here for dinner last night. It's not a big place so we ended up having one half of the place to ourselves, which was perfect. We all chose to have the Steak & Wine dinner for 2 for £32 which is incredible value. Between us I think we sampled all of the starters and they were all delicious and served with their famous bread. The food was all brought out together which is always a bit tricky when there's a big group and the service and staff were excellent. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely go back!

The cake and pastries are to die for! The meals are varied and very tasty. The service is as you would want 1st class. If you weed a watering hole in Dorchester this is the place. If you are not to concerned about your waistline you must have the drinking chocolate it is a treat to the eye and a treat to the taste.

Visited here with my family for lunch. They were very busy but made room for our party of 5. We were very impressed with the selection of food and drink and all enjoyed our food a great deal. The hot chocolate board went down very well. Only wish that we were local so could come back again soon!

I find it hard to believe that this cafe is in any way connected to the fabulous Yalbury Cottage, one of our favourite local restaurants where the quality of the cuisine and service is outstanding. The contrast could hardly be any greater. We were invited for "Christmas tapas" by my parents, who had attended the same event the previous year and loved it. Unfortunately, this year the concept had changed beyond all recognition. Why they chose to call it "tapas" is a complete mystery. The main course was a full turkey dinner all served on one big plate in the middle of the table. Unfortunately it was a disaster - undercooked potatoes, burnt sprouts and carrots, a thin brown-coloured water masquerading as gravy ... The only saving grace was the turkey roulade, which was quite tasty. By anyone's definition, "tapas" are small tasty morsels. This was the opposite - an oversized plate, unappetizingly piled up with everything they had left in the kitchen (the chef made a hasty exit as soon as it was on the table, clearly eager to get home - our 8 pm booking was the last of the evening on a Saturday night, which made for a strange atmosphere, and a feeling that we had outstayed our welcome by 9 pm). The starters were billed as a "bruschetta bar", and I must say that some of the items on there were nice - the prawns and the baba ganoush in particular, although all were cold; some hot items would have been very welcome, but clearly this had been set up well in advance so that no actual cooking had to be done. Unfortunately the mainstay of a bruschetta bar should surely be the bread, which was disastrous - limp, cold and soggy, like something that had been hastily defrosted. Yuck. The male waiter could clearly see that we were unhappy and tried to apologise - he did his best, and there was nothing much he could do, especially as the chef had already left at this point. The thing that really angered us was the attitude of the female waiter, who took over and said that we had "arrived with a mindset to complain", which is absolutely untrue and frankly insulting. All four of us had been looking forward to a pleasant evening. She then refuted every one of our criticisms, saying that "she liked her sprouts and carrots like that" and "every other guest this week had loved it". We didn't bother with the dessert platter, which again looked like a random selection of leftovers from the cafe (note to chef: mince pies cut in half do not constitute a tapa!) and paid the bill. We were still charged the full amount of 23 pounds a head plus our wine, and left feeling ripped off and badly treated. Such a shame.

We had an incredible experience at the Cross Keys. Mo and his team hosted my Father's funeral wake yesterday. The whole experience was incredible - made so special by Mo, Lucy, David and the girls. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt completely wrapped up in their arms from the moment we walked through the door to make the arrangements, right through to the day itself. I cannot thank the team enough for creating such a special celebration, which you planned so incredibly well. The delicious food platters were superb, and all the guests said what a beautiful venue it was. I was personally nurtured throughout the whole day, with Mo and Lucy checking in with me to make sure everything was perfect - and even David coming in on his day off to make sure my Dad's favourite music was being played. I can't thank them all enough from the bottom of my heart for all their kindness. We stayed in their family suite for the night. Our room was superb, with the biggest bed I've ever slept in, and beautiful views out onto the market square and the Conduit. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at the Cross Keys - the service is exceptional, the rooms amazing, and the breakfast was superb. We also had our evening meal in the restaurant, and it was exceptional. THANK YOU TO THE WHOLE TEAM AT THE CROSS KEYS - YOU ARE ALL AMAZING.

We came with friends as we had all been gifted afternoon tea, and chose to visit this tearoom. We booked just over a week in advance. What a great choice! A great selection of beautifully fresh finger sandwiches, scones, cream and jam. and a selection of small cakes, which were so light. Absolutely scrumptious. We weren't rushed, so we could sit and enjoy our food. The folk working in the tearoom were very welcoming and we had a delightful afternoon. Thank you!
