Yak & Yeti Nepalese & Indian Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

After reading the reviews me and my son decided to visit for the first time. Let me tell you we were absolutely disappointed. I don't normally like to post negative comments but I feel like something really needs to be done. We had the worst butter chicken and chicken tikka I have ever tasted in my life, and I had few before! Both were pink in colour and tasted like pure sugar. It was honestly such a waste of money, we had way better tikka at Wetherspoons. The staff seems lovely although the communication is an issue. We didn't really feel comfortable being in there as it was really empty and cold. I feel bad for writing this but there is so many restaurants in Truro they definitely have to do something about the quality of the food. Unfortunately we won't be visiting again.

Came to The Yak and Yeti with family and dined in, absolutely beautiful cuisine service was very good couldn't have asked for better all round. I highly recommend you give them a go you won't be disappointed

The food is absolutely delicious. But since last time we went the starter portions are now small got 4 piece of lamb and they forgot our onion bhaji . We only realised when we go home that they had missed them from our order.

Often order from here so last night ordered items we don't normally have. Very good. Delivery was early, which wasn't a problem this time, always unsure when ordering something different but very good. For me personally, I enjoy a keema nan but don't like it from here, that's just me. Will continue to order from here.

Didn't like the food.not tasty ...

Did like the food . Totally wasted money . I have spent £50.Me and my wife even didn't finish food at all. Raita was not good .Birayani was not good . And butter daal was not good . Everything was tasteless .only naan was ok ok .

The most incredible family run this restaurant. We brought our 8 month old with us for an evening meal. She’s teething and was very unsettled. The owners and waitress came over and took her, passing her between them all, until we had finished our food. They were really sweet with her. The chef even heated her food up for us. Our curries were so delicious- we’ve been coming here for over 10 years and their standards have never dropped. We highly recommend!

On calling this restaurant, I was surprised to find the difficulty in ordering. Not only was the menu difficult to find online, but so was navigating the ordering process with the individual on the phone. Visiting friends in the area, this is one of their local and most used restaurants, we were surprised at the level of quality as well as customer relation. The food quality itself was satisfactory, but it’s severely lacks competition as it is one of the only ones in the area, and by virtue of that fact, do not appear to challenge themselves either in quality or customer service. The food ordered arrived just outside of the window period provided on the phone by the individual taking the order. This was to be expected as I did not have a great deal of faith in the order being taken correctly. The individual who delivered the order was incredibly friendly and probably provided the best experience from ordering at this restaurant. If you order from here, you will need patience and a lot of understanding.

Not at all good food. Went here reading the reviews and was completely disappointed. The Paneer Makhni tasted like dessert. Veg Jalfrezi was ok but had brocoli and sweet corn in it for some reason? Also a Nepalese restaurant and yet the Veg Momos were the most disappointing part of the meal. Will never return again

Prompt service. I didn't notice much Nepalese influence in the food which appeared to me to just be the usual curry house flavours. Tasty none the less. Over £100 for 5 of us, main course only and one drink each. No wonder more of us are eating at home these days.

We had a delivery of food for 6 people. The butter chicken wasn’t right - it was sugar and a red colour sauce. Couldn’t eat it as it tasted of pure sugar. It should have been a less red looking sauce. We had to bin it as it was inedible. The lamb Biryani was low on lamb. Poppadoms very good Rice was good Naan good The Himalayan chicken didn’t mention it would have so much tomato sauce. I didn’t find ginger in it either which there was meant to be. It seems a lot of curries these days rely on the same sloppy tomato sauce and it seems a feature of many curry houses now. I think supermarket curries are better. It’s a shame as I don’t think I will risk ordering takeaways anymore.

Loveliest people, fair prices, excellent food and superb service.

Went tonight for my birthday, the food was incredible and the staff were so friendly. Lovely atmosphere and cannot wait to return!

Really friendly staff and amazing food

Delectable food every bite was worth more than heaven, the service was even better. Sunny especially was divine. He came over after our meal and gave our whole table a drink on the house. The whole experience was elevated by his service skills. Will definitely be returning frequently, we all enjoyed it here thoroughly.

Had a fantastic meal here last night. We were the first people in and our food was served quickly and freshly prepared. As a garlic lover, I was pleasantly surprised by the huge amount of garlic in the rice! All of the Nepalese dishes we tried were full of flavour and delicious. Staff were very understanding of our dietary requirements and double checked everything to make sure we could eat it. Most dishes can be made vegetarian or vegan at request which give you plenty of options on the menu if you are either. First time eating here but definitely not the last.

Why does everyone go on about this curry house so much? It was really average, not very rich, bland nothingness. Really disappointing. Good looking kitchen with a chef preparing it there and then, which was great . . but the result was lacklustre and so tame. Pleasant staff. I feel mean with this review but the curry was so ‘meh’.

The staff are really welcoming, food is consistently amazing!

Visited here a few months ago with colleagues from work. It was a very pleasant experience with great food, drinks and ambience. The staff were very professional and extremely helpful. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures on that occasion. Maybe next time I will do the needful.

Visited here last week. Staff are very friendly. The food was good just a little too watery for the curry sauce.

Great food reasonably priced, did take a little while to get the food but was very nice.

Placed an order for delivery, they called me and asked when we were coming to pick it up. Eventually we came to pick it up, got home and there was food missing from the order. Called up and they told me to come back and collect what was missing.. after saying I wouldnt do that I'd just driven already and now sitting down to eat, they told me to "mention this happened next time". Who says there will be a next time after that?!

We went to yak and yeti on 15 December 2023 in the evening to celebrate our anniversary.we went in to check out the place but as the manager approached us in a very rude manner and talked in a very harsh way.I told him we are just seeing the place as we are visiting it first time but he didn't listened to us at all and pointed us to the way out.It was very disrespectful and almost ruined our date night but we found in place in Katmandu restaurant nearby which offered us very good courtesy and respect.The food was delicious and the place was spacious too.we got a complimentary rice from the manager chandra and we had a nice chat later.I gave a good tip in the end as everything from the start to the finish was good.I highly recommend Katmandu place over yak and yeti. I'm replying here for your reply.Like I said in my review we just checking out the place not getting ourselves seated but you thought I'm getting a seat.The manner you insulted me and my wife is not acceptable.Please be very mindful while attending your guest.

Average food, nobody in there so no atmosphere.

The food was nice, but took ages to come, despite nobody there. Restaurant decor is minimal, therefore the feeling of eating out in a nice atmosphere is very limited.

Not been here for a few years, nearly forgot how good it was !!!! The food is absolutely outstanding, and the service is second to none 👏👏 to top it off the price is very reasonable too Would highly recommend!! ❤️

Really good food, we had a choice of typical nepalese dishes and I can't say anything but delicious!.shame they don't do chicken momos though. But all in all a must try for foodies.

The food was average compared other Nepalese food in Plymouth. We got the chicken Chilli which was sour and the Lamb Napaalese curry which good. The portion size were small compared to the price charged.

Fantastic food, had an ensemble of starters, very tasty all different but great quality and taste. Love the pilau rice, chapatti and Gurkha beer, mains were so tasty, so we'll cooked, honestly we will be back. Great food, great service, great value for money.

Delicious, reasonably priced, interesting menu with lots of options (but not toooo many in an overwhelming way). Lovely people who I think must be the owners. Best curry in Truro I reckon.

We ordered our dinner for 3 of us. We were so disappointed with food, paneer Tika masala was sweet as honey, infact there was no masala but a lot of food colouring. They took 1hour to serve our order of paneer tikka masala, momos, samosa and naan. Called them to complain, one of the male staff said they will get us another dish to make it up but not as a complimentary, in fact we would be paying more. I would not even given them 1 star, worst experience ever. Would not recommend.

Very nice food, friendly staff and convenient, located in the heart of Truro City Centre and close to the cathedral. I had a starter and main course to eat, plus a beer to drink. The total cost was £23 and, I think that is a reasonable price to pay. The owner was friendly and made us feel welcome.

Great food, can choose from Nepalese and Indian food. Great staff. Restaurant bigger than you think due to using upper floors of Georgian house.

We had an amazing experience in this restaurant. Immediately upon entrance the owner greeted us with a huge smile, and regular customers praised the food. They were right! Everything was perfect, and the Yeti salad was beyond words - one of the most delicious we had! Enthusiastically recommended.

Wasn't impressed with this restaurant. My dish wasn't what I expected, couldn't taste any nice Indian spices.. my friends dish was not rich enough, altogether disappointed, sad to say. The staff couldn't communicate with us either so made it difficult.

The staff was not at all welcoming. We were provided stale food, when asked to exchange they simply refused us. Had really high expectations but the experience was pathetic. I’m sure that the restaurant doesn’t know that they are a part of the HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY.

Love getting the chance to eat here, unfortunately not often enough. Great food and service.

You can be assured of attentive and personal service from a citizen of Truro for 20yrs who with his family takes 'knowing his customers" very seriously such that tonight I saw him "High Five'ng" some younger guests who were clearly tickled pink having known the proprietor all their lives! The food is ridiculously good and you should give it a try I am sure you will become a regular. Ask for Nepalese recommendations and you will not be disappointed!

Wonderfully friendly and they love people and the food is DELICIOUS

We've been a few times and popped in last night for an impromptu dinner. The meal was lovely, service was friendly and prompt, and we had our first time sitting in their rear garden, an ideal spot for a warm evening. Good veggie options - we had momos plus saag aloo and chilli paneer, plus lassi. Would absolutely recommend.

Standard fare (the dumplings were the best thing on the menu), in a less than average setting.

A group visit. We chose to have several little dishes which were well presented and we were given a description of each dish. Tried dishes I wouldn't of thought of trying. All delicious. Staff were amazing

First time ordering this evening, ordered for 2 and food was fantastic. Tasted fresh and the perfect amount of spice! Warm welcome from the owner, sonny, and very friendly staff! :)

Ordered a fairly large takeaway, I got something completely different from the menu. Zero spice, and contained unexpected ingredients in my dish. Similarly all the dishes lacked spice heat where expected. I ordered a hot dish, temperature wise it was hot, but initial mouthfuls reminded me of packet food. We noticed all our dishes were on the sweet side too. Not good, it wasn't disgusting or that bad so as not to eat it. Certainly off-piste menu expectations.

4 years since my last review, the food and service are as excellent as ever. Always choose from the Nepalese section of the menu and I've never been disappointed.

The best takeaway in Truro! So delicious, fresh, not greasy and lovely people running it.

End of year works do - all pre booked. Arranged as a buffet but no information about what was happening. No labelling of different dishes. Just 3 pots of curry and rice. £22 each and not any value for money. Plus £6.50 for a bottle of beer. Food wasn't anything above any other Indian - nothing noteworthy. All in all a shame for a restaurant which has very good reviews

Would never use again 2 hour wait for food,my rice arrived then half an hour later my main arrived undercooked chicken I could have cooked better myself,as for manners,well there wasn't any,dropped cutlery on floor and just kicked it under the table not a place I would recommend to anyone 😔😔

First time visiting Yak & Yeti won’t be the last! Delicious meal and lovely service. I had the Chana Masala which was super flavourful. They have so many veggie options and you have the option to request a curry if they don’t do it on the menu. Reasonably priced and big portions 👍🏻

The best onion bhaji in town, by a country mile! Ordered food for delivery, early on a Wednesday evening. Arrived very promptly. All very tasty, no complaints about a couple of free papadums. Main courses are quite large, you'll have someone to share with if you're lucky. I have vague and blurry memories of sitting down to eat in the restaurant a few years ago. Great views from the rear courtyard of the old BT building. Staff were friendly and accommodating, up to a point.

Staying in Truro for a holiday - we were excited to find a Nepalese and were not disappointed! We ordered 5 mains to share and every dish was fantastic - particularly recommend the Machha Fishtail 🤤. Staff seemed super friendly when I collected too, and stopping on the doubles temporarily (as long as you don't block the buses) nearby seemed common for all the takeaways there so pickup was easy. If we're in Truro again, we'll definitely be back 👍👍

Delicious curry always friendy and welcoming

We called in for an early dinner before seeing a show at the Hall for Cornwall. The food was first class, in fact it was one of the best Indians I’ve ever had. First class service as well means it’s an easy 5 stars from me.

It was my first experience here although my friends I dined with come often and I can see why. Everything about what I ate and drank here was perfect. The meal was delicious and the sauce my particular dish came in was divine! If you want an authentic and superb treat of Nepalese cuisine eat here!

The food and service was amazing. We were a group of three and we couldn’t decide what to order. We were recommended a selection of dishes. Three different curries , side dishes , rices and breads. The quality of the food was the best I’ve eaten in many years. The service was so friendly and efficient, I will definitely return the next time I’m in Truro.

Amazing food, and superb service. We ordered for 9 and every meal was fantastic. One of the best curries I’ve ever had. A mistake with the Just Eat app meant we ordered 12 onion salads instead of a selection of chutneys, the restaurant phoned and let us know and called the deliver driver back and swapped the onion salads for chutneys, amazing service, thank you. Recommended

Have used this place for about 18 months food always hot and freshly cooked i ask for my own curry and never a problem chilli chicken is great not to hot they also have a bar which i prefer than taking your own beer

A real gem of a place. Hosted a romantic secret birthday meal for the mrs here and they were very cooperative and helpful in receiving the cake from the supplier, looking after it and presenting it with a song on the day. The food itself is a beautiful mixture of Nepal and India. Being raised on Indian food, it was a great experience trying somewhat familiar dishes with Nepalese invention. Every dish landed with vibrant colours, fragrant spices and deep rich flavours. The staff were great, super considerate and the fun type of chatty. We had a fantastic time. Thanks for the memories Yak & Yeti!
