New Garden Chinese Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Chips were like cheap frozen chips. Chicken didn't taste fresh. Quite chewy. Chowmein wasn't even mixed properly. Noodles were all at the bottom. Very expensive for not very good food

IDENTITY CRISIS, Is it a pub/restaurant/takeaway/converted living room,strange circle of chairs acting as a barrier,shouting across to the till to order giving a ticket like your waiting in argos,get the food to find cold rice completely over cooked chicken definitely been cooked before and reheated extremely tough,greasy and border line inedible, If you want to see how not to do a chinese restaurant then this is the right place for you

The best chinese! Everytime I come to Newquay I make sure to come here as a treat! All the dishes are very tasty and good portions. Only shame is the restaurant is very small and very difficult to get a table. Takeaway options good.

We ordered take out. The internal layout was unproffessoonal in that they made a wall of random furniture to divide the restaurant bar users from the takeout orders... and you had to shout your order across the room to the staff behind the bar. They only came forward to the 'funiture wall' to take your money. Kind of rude and ill thoughtout. Most of the food tasted OK, but a lot of the meatier portions were served in stingy half-sized trays and mostly dry. The chowmeins were half a tray of plain noodles with veg and meat on top... it wasn't mixed or cooked in as an actual chowmein, which was also weird and cheap effort on thier part. The sweet n sour chicken ball sauce-pot was smaller than a golf ball, so again, extremely stingy size. And like most Chinese take outs, they did give free prawn crackers with a large order... but you guessed it, the bag was half the size you'd expect too! Not impressed. Shan't bother using them again during our stay in cornwall.

Got to say, a lovely meal in a great but personal atmosphere. Firstly, very attentive staff, but not overly so. The food fresh and nicely cooked, not waiting too long for the courses to come out at all. And, to top it all, a perfect Irish Coffee to finish it all off. It was the first time there but won't be the last. Very busy restaurant and takeaway but both kept separate which is good. Top marks all around. Thank you.

The nicest Chinese food I've ever eaten. We've been on holiday for 2wks & ordered here twice, both times the food was excellent & very reasonably priced for a family of 4. No delivery service, so collection only, but it's so worth it.

Lovely food and very helpful staff as we had a nut allergy so very helpful and safe with that. Food was great as good as any chinese, great portion sizes. We ordered to takeout but restaurant was very full of people. Chicken and sweetcorn soup 10/10 my fav.

If you were like me and completely torn between going for some “pub grub” or taking a chance on the local Indian, please skip both of those thoughts and get down here. The place is beautiful, quietly tucked away, drove too fast and you’ll miss it. The atmosphere is lovely, the place is quaint and welcoming and the food is sublime and great value for money. We managed to have prawn crackers, a starter, 3 mains, 2 beers, a glass of wine and 2 beers for £60 which was immense value and didn’t manage to finish it all. All in all, fantastic find and would highly recommend

First time here after living in St Columb for last 20 maths.Will definitely be back!Mad busy,as it was a Sat,6.45,end of mth,but that was a good sign.Waited 5 mins in queue,ordered for 1,told it would be about 15-20 mins,which was fine by me.I don't think I even waited 10 mins,and my food was ready!Service was excellent,and the staff,even though busy,were really polite and friendly!Food was hot (10 mins drive home,in coolbox),very tasty,portions good,good price. Overall a lovely experience. (Mixed meat curry,egg fried rice,extra curry sauce)

Very good food at right price point Pros + good food and balanced taste + good vegetarian section + they are good at tweaking taste based on requirements + good service + clear information given esp to vegetarians (like about which sauce contains meat etc) Cons - kids activity like a drawing paper etc would be helpful to engage kids

Absolutely beautiful and tasty food! Lovely attentive staff, premises so clean and pleasant, highly recommend,, I've been going there for about 20 years and have NEVER had a poor experience, the food is always gorgeous, try the Cantonese 🦆 duck, wonderful 😊 x!

Having read previous reviews, we decided to give New Garden the chance over the others. We ordered Mini Spring Rolls, Beef curry with boiled rice, chilli crispy chicken, chicken chow mein & a portion of chips. Unfortunately the mini spring rolls were forgotten, being unable to return & having paid cash it was useless calling to rectify. Food was average if I'm honest. It was edible but nothing to rave about or recommend to family & friends. The portion sizes were pretty poor especially with the prices being the same as what we have 'back home' yet our local is double the size if not more as is the quality.

Went there after a recommendation a couple of years ago. Since then we have never eaten elsewhere, why would we, it’s perfect. Good quality, good price, moreover very friendly. Try it, you won’t be disappointed. 👍 John.

This was my first visit to New Garden and I loved it. The staff were friendly and efficient, no long waiting time for food which was delicious, and good spacing between tables. Toilets are available and there's a small car park at the front and parking at the rear. This really is a little gem, I will definitely be eating here again.

Lovely place to eat, or takeaway, friendly staff and nice size portions, if your in thr mood for a nice Chinese meal. Give it a try.

Telephoned our order through, got told be ready in 30mins. Got there on time only to pay and then wait a further 30mins, asked how long our order would be and told 5mins but waited another 10mins to finally get our order. Which was flavourless and not very hot. Didn't get an apology and felt they took too many orders in and couldn't cope with it. Others waiting at the same time had the same waiting problem. Won't be going back.

Phoned up and placed my order. Then headed straight to the Chinese which is les than and 8 min walk from our house. Got there paid and waited for about 10 mins which wasn’t a problem as they were busy. Received my food and went straight home! Plated our food up. The noodles had more salt on them than what’s in the dead see!! The sweet and sour chicken was over cooked and hard, the satay chicken was cooked perfectly but again was way too salty! The noodles were over done and everything was cold!! It seems like everything had been stood for a while even tho when I phoned they said it would be about 20 mins and I got there within 8 minutes of making the order and waited about 10 mins for my order!! I regularly use this restaurant and I have to say this is the worst food Iv had from there!! I’m not sure is you have changed your chef’s but they need to be told what they are cooking isn’t good! We ended up chucking the food away.

This is a nice family run restaurant/takeaway; it is a very popular place with the locals 👏 We tried the takeaway meals and had a sit-down dinner meal as well! Zoe and May, with their team, are always friendly and welcoming during our visit The food is freshly prepared with great taste and good portion It's definitely a gem in the area. Wow! Great experience. Called before to discuss Gluten Free food, which they accommodated fantastically. Such polite and helpful staff. The food was delicious, really tasty crispy beef ♥️ Good size portions and reasonably priced. Was ready to collect at the agreed time and still hot when i got it home. (Beer not included!!)

Superb food! Had a meal for 4 this evening, and to put out food of this standard when they were as busy as they were speaks volumes! Great work New Garden! Highly recommended!!!

Ordered here whilst staying at Retallack resort. Really friendly lady on the phone, was told 10-15 minutes and food would be ready to collect. About a 10-15 minute journey from where we were staying so asked if it could be delayed slightly - no issue at all. There’s parking on site which was a bonus Surprised at how good value for money our order came to! Picked food up and was still lovely and hot when we arrived back to the lodge, really fresh tasty food, probably one of the best crispy chilli beef I’ve had. Wouldn’t hesitate to order from here again if we were in the area!

Delicious food, good friendly service

My honest review of this lovely Chinese restaurant. It’s very small and cosy place 😊. Better reserve a table before you do . Filled with local people . Food is amazing . Huge potions prices are very reasonable. We wished if we have ordered more . But we didn’t have much time . We were heading back to London . Most of the starters 5-8 Mains from 8 I had prawns fired rice 8-9. Al overall experience was an amazing 🥰 re

Very disappointed, after reading the great reviews I thought we would have found ourselves a great place. Unfortunately to our disappointment we waited 1hr which I wasn't to disappointed by as I thought it was going to be worth the wait. The food came warm and as I got back 0.8mile away it was almost cold. The portion sizes were incredibly small 4 slices of prawn toast was very disappointing regarding the price. Also the food had the taste as it was re heated and dried out the chips were the worst dried bland tasting. I could keep going a £50 order that's been water and thrown away. Not happy and will not recommend 😕

We come on holiday to Cornwall every year. And this is the place we come to for Chinese food. Can't comment too much on atmosphere, as we utilise the take away option, but not had a bad meal here in the last 4/5 years of coming here. Always happy to see you even if not a regular, and the food is excellent.

We came here while on holiday an we were not disappointed. Food was top quality and service was brilliant! Very busy restaurant! I can highly recommend the king prawn curry! Portion sizes were very good too. Will definitely be returning on out next holiday to Cornwall!

Super long wait, but a busy restaurant is the sign of a popular restaurant! We had a lovely takeaway, the staff were lovely. We ordered too much as always and enjoyed the leftovers very much so. Now I'm craving a meal from New garden again

We are so lucky that this is our local Chinese restaurant because it is always our first choice! Food is always hot, made fresh to order, and tasty.

Lovely Chinese, always welcoming and food is of a high standard. Weekends are usually busy but ring early to avoid disappointment. Some parking out front and to the back of the building. Enough tables to seat a small party event.

We had a lovely meal a few months ago. The staff were absolutely lovely. The service was fantastic Highly recommend!

Had take away from here, food wasn't great at all. Perhaps because we have such a good Chinese at home. Some of the food was cold. Place was dark and not welcoming but the staff were ok. Next visit to Newquay we won't be coming back to this place unfortunately

Had take away. Very busy Friday night. Food - egg fried rice was solid in the tub and not hot tasted as if it wad reheated. Chicken balls were very dry. Did not enjoy our meal. 🫤

Ordered takeout - Service was great, very friendly on the phone & when we collected Lemon chicken was lovely, egg fried rice and chips were too Chicken chow mein was different to what we’ve had previously (smaller noodles, chicken & veg not mixed in with noodles) and we weren’t overly keen on this style Was disappointed with the sesame prawn toast - It was £3.90 and was only 4 pieces, so didn’t feel like great value for money in our view We would try here again but we’d choose different meals

Had a takeaway from here and my gosh!! It was absolutely fantastic! Ordered and didn’t think we would have enough but the portions are small, but more than enough. Collected from the place instead of delivery. Only thing I have been asked to add, was that the six foot nine individual who collected the takeaway, hit his head on the light as he entered! Thanks and photos don’t do it justice!!

Wonderful meal and service. We went as a family of 5 with no reservation and were accommodated despite them being very busy. Delicious food and lovely staff.

Was visiting and got a takeaway based on reviews. Food of good quality, quantities quite decent. The only thing I would say it was slightly bland but guess that is a comparison to my local Chinese takeaway in London. All in all very good and recommended. If I go again I would ask them to make the food spicier. Matter of personal taste I guess.

If you are looking for fresh flavoursome Chinese then this is the place for you. The staff are very accommodating and genuinely nice. Although it does feel like you are walking into your great aunts house for dinner, I actually embrace this and believe it adds to the charm. The wine list is smallish, inexpensive and more importantly decent. I have in fact been there three times and the family are pestering to go back. This in it's self is high accolade when the 16yr old diva and 11 year old gamer are begging to go back. I myself (much to my families embarrassment) am not easy to please, but as of yet have surprisingly not found anything to complain about. So please take heed and try this lovely family restaurant serving delightful food at a decent price rather than opting for some large mass producing restaurant going for style over flavour.

Food was straight bussing, and the chicken balls were god-tier. We were the only ones in there but there was lots of take-out action. Our server was lovely but lacked Guan-yu knowledge.

Average in my opinion. Curry is very nice from here. Otherwise most of the food is a little bland. Prices reasonable.

Sometimes you take a gamble buying takeaway but the food here was absolutely delicious. A lot of effort had gone into each dish! Really lovely meal. Friendly staff. Thank you!

Over 1h45 wait for food, then told by front of house "it's not my problem that its late". Terrible service and management. Foods alright, same as any chinese really.

First time ever I've had to sit and wait over an hour to collect take away and 2 hours after ordering over the phone, alot of customers came to collect but had to cancel their orders!! Absolute chaos!!

Collected the food for myself and other staff. I’m vegan. I asked for just mushroom rice, no egg.on ordering. Veg curry no noodles in the curry. Got to work had to bin mine 🥲. Have they changed owners recently. Mushroom rice never came with egg before ? 🤢🤮

Has this place changed hands ? Ive lived in the village over 20 years and been here many times... This time they not only missed one of our dishes on our take out order so when we got home someone went without. But also... the shredded crispy duck was more like shredded crispy duck bones... got several sharp fragments of bone in my mouth while eating it. not up to your old standards at all. Also the salt and pepper squid wasn't as nice as i remembered before either.

The food was OK but not very tasty. It was quite pricey. The lemon prawns were literally prawns with a couple of slices of lemon and when we ordered a bag of prawn crackers they didn't tell us we'd get one free with the order so one unfortunately went to waste.

We love Chinese food but can't get a decent meal where we live. What a find !! Lovely food, good sized portions and exceptional service. If you're on holiday, treat yourselves 😎
