Little expensive but the food is really good

We went for lunch and were the only peo0le in the restaurant, so had the place to ourselves. The decor and atmosphere is very cosy. The man who served us was very polite and attentive. We each ordered a dosh which came with three curries, some rice and some veg. The flavour was amazing and it was nice to have a range of items so we didn't have to pick one thing. The prices were very reasonable. Would recommend and definitely return.

Fantastic authentic Nepalese food, great portion sizes, really interesting menu. The lamb and buffalo are sourced locally. Exemplary service and very good front of house.

Went to Yak and Yeti yesterday with some friends. While I’ve got to give full credit to the staff for their warm hospitality and great service, the food sadly didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered the Everest Lamb, which is listed on the menu at £13.99. For that price, I was expecting something a bit more substantial and flavourful. Instead, what I got was around 50 grams of lamb swimming in a mediocre curry sauce. The meat wasn’t well-cooked, definitely didn’t feel like the “top quality” promised on the menu, and the whole dish just fell flat. To make matters worse, it came with a bowl of plain boiled rice—completely tasteless and far from the fluffy texture you’d hope for. It’s rare for me to leave a meal feeling this disappointed, but this has to be one of the most underwhelming and overpriced meals I’ve had in a long time. A real shame, especially given how great the staff were.

Cracking food, beef stir fry was rich and the rice was flavourful. Great starter selection too, Momo and other dishes. Fantastic place for lunch/tea

La comida era tan sabrosa, los Momo estaban allí con las mejores albóndigas que he probado y el curry de cordero era tan sabroso! Sin duda volvería y recomendaría. Me pareció barato para lo que era, la gente es tan encantadora aquí.

Este restaurante tiene un gran ambiente y la comida es maravillosa. Habíamos cocinado al vapor Pollo Mo: Mo y costillas de cerdo estilo Nepalés para empezar. Seguido de Annapurna Pollo con Arroz y Carne de Vaca marinado en especias especiales y luego remover - frito con pimientos y cebollas mezclados y servido con arroz. Cabe mencionar que el arroz viene incluido en el precio de la comida principal. También tenemos un cóctel, un poco de cerveza y una bebida simple de lassie. Todo el personal es muy amable y servicial. Muy recomendable.

Stumbled across this place whilst looking for a quick late lunch . I ordered one single dish and the first bite convinced me that I have to return again so that I can try more from the menu. The dish that I ordered, jhol mo mo was absolutely beautiful; delicious dumplings in a hot tangy soup. Relaxed atmosphere with great service.

Really nice little restaurant. Food was tasty and spicy. Chilli momos were the highlight. Staff were attentive.

I had a very disappointing experience. First, they got our order completely wrong, and instead of correcting it, they kept trying to convince us to accept the wrong dish. It felt like they were more concerned about avoiding extra effort rather than ensuring customer satisfaction. To make things worse, before we had even finished our meal, they abruptly placed the bill on our table without us asking. It felt rushed and unprofessional, as if they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. Overall, the service was poor, and the lack of attention to customer experience made the visit quite embarrassing. Definitely not a place I would recommend or return to.

Really lovely food. Had a late Saturday lunch, friendly service, food was very tasty and loads of gluten free options too. Will be back.

Food is amazing! The one with pork liver and vegetables is special! Staffs are friendly and helpful. Been there for 4 times! Opens to late hours as well but can call the restaurant to confirm!

Very tasty food but child size portions for adult size prices. I wouldn’t recommend the chow mein it is very greasy hardly any meat and very salty. He wouldn’t need to have to spend a fortune in that place and in order to get full.

5 star for the food quality and taste. I have tried many nepalese restaurant, by far this one was the best. Everything is clean, not unnecessary spice mixed together. It’s fresh wholesome sole food with simplicity and not greasy and overall just cooked so well. Everything was fresh. Price was decent. Staff were very respectful and friendly. Momos , thukpa and chowmein all are just superb. If you are looking for authentic comforting warm food then you should visit here. Thank you all the chefs in the kitchen for bringing such a good experience on the plate.

Ambiente y limpieza: El establecimiento parecía descuidado, con retretes sucios y mal mantenidos, lo que indicaba la necesidad de mejoras significativas. Calidad alimentaria: La comida era mala; en particular, el cordero era tan duro como el cuero de zapato. Servicio: El único aspecto redentor era el personal, que era muy agradable. Dadas estas cuestiones, estoy perplejo por la alta calificación del restaurante.

No puedo insistir lo suficiente en la “momo thukpa” que teníamos aquí, la consistencia correcta, perfectamente cocinada, lo suficientemente caliente como para vencer el frío exterior. Realmente recomendable si quieres un poco de momo estilo Nepalí.

Came to eat here on the 27th with family. We were the only ones in but then again we were in quite early for a friday night. The momo we had to start were good, no complaints on that. We all had Dhal bhaat, it was not bad by any means but not worth 17.99, we asked for our curries to be hot/spicy but none of them were, we also ordered sukuti to have alongside the mains but they were quite tough and lacked any form of flavour, they were like charcoal bullets. The service was going well up until when we paid the bill, we were overcharged by almost £20 and we couldn’t figure out the costs of things on the bill as it was handwritten instead of a printed receipt. Overall experience was okay but not worth being overcharged.

Very reasonably priced, I've been a couple of times and wasn't disappointed either time . If possible, I try to use small businesses instead of large corporate ones as you tend to get better service, and the food is 99.9% better . This place does not disappoint .

A raving disappointment after reading the reviews I was expecting an excellent meal but sadly not ! I had the pork curry my friend had lamb both of them were tough chewy and sub par with frankly tiny portions … to start we had the momo I had chilli chicken which was very good he had pork steamed which was ok but the onion inside needed more cooking. The staff are superb both attentive and friendly … all in all a great disappointment we will not be visiting again.

Wonderful service. We came from Aldershot for graduation ceremony. The owners were very friendly, kind and welcoming. Food was delicious. Especially dal bhat masu pork Nepali style. The server was also celery thoughtful. They even prepared a Nepali khana for us. We felt at home here. Highly recommended for proper authentic Nepali cuisine. Rai family from Solu.

Went here on an evening after a little wander around the cathedral and Shambles. The food (snacks) was delicious and properly spicy, as they should be. The finishing chai was also a nice taste and flavourful. The staff were lovely as well. The pricing was a tad bit expensive especially just for snacks and tea. Would definitely go again to try their food menu.

Algunas de las fotos de TA muestran mesas con tapetes y vasos con servilletas de colores, esto lo habría iluminado un poco en lugar de las mesas desnudas. Sin embargo, no se trata de un comentario negativo, sino de una observación. Estábamos aquí para comer. . . la comida era excelente, entrante de gambas y rollos de primavera eran muy sabrosos. Preguntaron si queríamos la red cuando despejaron los entrantes o queríamos un breve descanso entre ellos, eso siempre es agradable, especialmente porque en algunos establecimientos nos han presentado la red sin dejar de comer los entrantes. La red era excelente, no se veía mucho pero créeme que era más que suficiente. El personal era muy amable, la comida era una buena relación calidad-precio, y volveríamos la próxima vez en York

Fantastic food, and has been for at least 7 years. Every time I am impressed, and I particularly recommend the Steamed Momo, Sukuti, Everest Lamb and Bhuteko Bhat. If you have a large stomach, also the dals, which are delicious but I never have room for them. Highly recommended.

Not had a Gurkha Curry / Meal for over 20 years since working along side the Gurkha regiment back in 2004….This place is just amazing!!! Rammed, even at 7pm in the evening at opening time….all the way through the evening Deceivingly large portions, disguised as small If we could give this place a Michelin star 🌟 we would!

Been going to Y&Y for a number of years. Love the food and the great service. We visited Nepal and were invited to meet some of Bom & Krishna's family in Ghandruk. It was very special. We visited on Saturday and it was great.

My partner and I live in York and we probably visit Yak & Yeti every few months, it's our favourite place in York. We had a booking for 22 people yesterday to celebrate our engagement, and every single person couldn't speak more highly about the food and the service. The food was incredible as always, and every single person got what they had ordered and the staff were so accommodating. We can't recommend Yak & Yeti enough, and consider it the best restaurant in the city by far. Thank you to all the staff who work there for helping us celebrate our special day x

Delightful little upstairs restaurant, family run with unique and tasty dishes. I advise you took book, it get very busy here and limited seating.. That said you will not regret it. The food here authentically home cooked by the family. With several generations all joining in for dinner when it quietens down in the evening. Food portions are just right, not huge buy very filling and tasty and the prices are very reasonable. Ghurkhali Pork and Annapurna Chicken, complement our beef Momo perfectly. A delicious little find in the heart of the city 😋

We shared the starters - Gurkhali Achar and Tareko Macha, which were both delicious. Then we had Daal Baat Masu and Daal Baat Macha, which give a chance to taste the variety of Gurkha cooking. Deliciously spiced, not too hot but full of flavour. Lovely service, and great value.

First time to visit The Yak and Yeti Gurkha restaurant and also first time to taste Nepalese food. Oh my, the food were all delicious (veg&chicken momo, yak and yeti chicken and beef, chowmein special, spare ribs, lamb with sauce). We've been served right away. I highly recommend this place 👌. Wonderful place and sumptuous food. Definitely worth going when you're in the City of York.

We visited for a late lunch, so the restaurant was quiet. It's up a flight of stairs, so not accessible for all. There was a pleasant atmosphere, with traditional music playing in the background. The service throughout was welcoming, friendly, and polite. The menu is fairly varied, except for the desserts. Vegetarian options are clearly marked. The food was delicious, pleasantly spiced with mild heat. The portions were reasonable. I'll be happily returning next time I'm in York.

Great service and good atmosphere. Unfortunately, while the original flavours are there, they are weak and bland. Perhaps they water down the spices to match the local preference. But I was looking for the bold flavours I had when I was in Nepal. If you don't like spices but want to try Nepalese food, then recommended.

What a lovely wee place to visit fir my birthday treat while visiting york. The food was so good but the staff take time to have a chat and you go in as a customer but leave as friend. I don't think we have a nepal restaurant in Belfast. Thank you all for making my birthday special.

We had the chilli vegetable momos, the Nepali Tarkari and the Annapurna Chicken. All were delicious. One of us is vegetarian and had quite a few options to choose from. The waiters were friendly and helpful. Would visit again.

Fabulous, authentic food served by a welcoming family restaurant! A must visit when you’re exploring York!! The authentic Nepalese food was stunning, the ‘thali’ was perfect for exploring different aspects of the cuisine.

Wow! We loved it here! The chicken stir fry, potato starter and the lamb curry were cooked to absolute perfection. Our 2-year-old gobbled loads of it up too, so children who handle bold flavours well will enjoy their experience too. A quiet restaurant, quick service and friendly staff made our evening even better.

I've been to Yak and Yeti a few times now, and the food never fails to deliver. After travelling around Nepal and missing the food the Yak and Yeti provide you with an authentic Nepalese food experience. The food is great with the steamed momos being my personal favourite. In addition to this restaurant provides a great selection of vegetarian/vegan options also! Our server was prompt and took drinks and food orders quickly. The only negative comment I had is that the decor is dated and looks in need of an update. But for food experience, I would highly recommend Yaki and Yeti, and I'll be returning myself!

Always satisfied with my fav combo of Pork steamed Momo and Chowmein 🤤 . With fresh ingredients, right spices and chef Abin’s amazing culinary skills, Yak and Yeti never fails to serve dishes of authentic Nepalese taste and flavours right here in York…. always a delightful visit!!
