Interior really nice and classy, staff welcoming and helpful but food? For that price I would except better. Spaghetti sauce really sour, they should use San marziano tomatoes so it could be sweeter, chicken breast overcooked and dry. Paella, the fish ingredients were really tasty and full of flavor, opposite to rice, If I would put in my mouth with eyes closed I wouldn't even know what I'm eating so yeah, risotto need a change. Overally just ok.

Food was spot on and as you can see, the portion size is very generous. Nachos as a main were really nice with added pulled pork. Everyone in our group loved their choices too.

Visited YNot and so happy we did. Received friendly service from our young staff server. Good selection on the menu at very reasonable prices and also drinks and cocktails. Our food was delicious had to try the Scrabster Haddock Mornay and of course Scrabster Haddock & Chips. Both equally tasty and generous portion sizes. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant too. Recommend a Cocktail as had the best Porn Star Martini! Would definitely return when visiting Thurso again,

Nice food in a small town. The name is not that great, but it should go in for the food. Tried loaded fries, wrap and burger, and everything was good. It wad quick too.

Food was OK, service was abysmal slow, felt ignored most of the time, never came back after food was given, no drinks when sitdown ect . Showed more interest talking to eachother behind the bar instead of seeing to paying customers. A year ago this place was amazing now its a former shadow of itself. Luckily you can go to the coop next door for desert.....

We stayed at the Ynot inn for dinner & overnight stay ready for the Orkney ferry the next morning . Our order took for ever & we gave up up waiting ( there's a great takeaway just up the road) . Our two rooms for the night were exellent , BUT we got no sleep for all the noise from the bar , it went quiet at about 0330 in the morning .We had to leave early before breakfast to get the ferry & the only one around was the cleaner . She managed to take our card details for payment & the next day money was taken from our bank account . Three weeks later we got a very rude letter saying we left without paying .After 3 months of emails to & fro ( including proof from our bank ) they finally agreed we had paid ( no sorry or comp. ) .And to cap it all off our 15 year old son got asked he wanted to buy drugs form some one on the front door of the bar when he popped out to get some thing from the car !!! .TERRIBLE PLACE & AWFULL STAFF/OWNERS -AVOID AT ALL COSTS .

Nice buzz about the place. Feels like THE venue for all in the area. Mix of folk GO. A place more for the young or young at heart. Pleasant, effective staff. Food OK.

We came here in the summer time, it was super last minute, didn’t book and they accommodated us so welcomely. The menu had so much choice and the food was delicious and came so quickly! The highlight of our night and the reason I write this review 4 months later is because at the end of the night we asked if they could make us 2 amaretto sours (which weren’t on their drinks menu). The boy told us it was his first time making one but he would give it his best shot. Ever since then, everytime we have an amaretto sour, which is our favourite cocktail, we always think back to our night in Thurso and none have been as good as our one here! As we sit here drinking an amaretto sour on our holidays in Iceland, we thought back to then and wanted to leave a review and let the organisation, everybody thinking of coming, and the boy who made them for us that his effort for our drinks didn’t go unappreciated and that they were the best amaretto sours we’ve ever had!

On our trip around Scotland landed in Thurso in November on cold wet night. Best Mac n cheese ever. Despite place being largely empty - it is start of winter after all- staff were welcoming and friendly.

This place looks the part, and the menu tries hard, but it has always fallen short in my opinion. The prices in here are a joke to be blunt, but the food is half decent. I will probably be back, but only to see if there's something decent on the specials.

We came for dinner during our visit to Thurso. There are not many restaurants open during weekdays in November and the option is limited. We did not have much expectation for the food but we actually really enjoyed it. We ordered some haggis bum bum for starter, Fish & Chips and Seafood ravioli for main, which were quite delicious. The batter of the fish was crispy and not greasy and so were the chips. The seafood was fresh. The staff were very friendly who definitely were tips. We were too excited to try the food and I even forgot to take photos.😅

Been served rot salad. Asked to have it changed. And it was definitely fresh. Told at payment and been offered 5% discount. However the discount can't buy the truth. It could be a nice place if it wasn't governed by profit.

Nice relaxed atmosphere with excellent service and food. Pub like atmosphere so don't recommend for romantic evening, but ideal for meeting friends or a reasonably priced evening if on holiday or passing through. One word of warning, if parking at restaurant do watch curb when entering or exiting, very high and gap is narrow.

It was nice and quiet on arrival, staff that served us were lovely however the member of staff that came through with the moustache who thought it was hilarious to make extremely loud vomit noises was absolutely disgusting!! Put me right off the place. The other young Lad who did tell him to shhh was a nice guy but honestly grow up your at work and you let the rest of the team down with the class clown antics.

Service was ok but our lunch tasted awful. Poor quality of food, poor presentation and expensive. This place was always so good before. Sack the chef. Will not be returning

After a bit of a disappointment with another restaurant my hubby found this little gem hidden away. Never tasted haddock quite like it 😋 the batter was so light and crispy that it made your mouth water 🤤. The Belgian chocolate waffle 🧇 was to die for 😋🤤 Staff was excellent 👌 We would recommend going there again.

Passing through & this came up on a search, so glad I stopped. Lovely young lady welcomed me & served me & it was so good to see so many G/F choices. I had the burger & fries & it was cooked to perfection, the crispiest chips I've had in forever. Dessert was superb as well, highly recommend. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of my dinner.

Newly refurbished pub lacks atmosphere but the seafood platter was outstanding. The pub is clean and new but a bit sterile. Decent range of beers and pub food with good presentation.

Great food. Perfectly cooked Haddock & excellent crab, prawns & smoked salmon salad

Great food, service can be a hit or a miss. But do not go when it is busy, I have been 3 times now and waited 45 minutes + for lunch. I find either the service is great or I am waiting ages inbetween drinks orders/food orders. My previous visit I did not get served for over 20 minutes and walked out. The chefs do a great job in the back, and the food that comes out the kitchen is great. But the poor service and long waits will stop me going here.

Nice place with good food and friendly staff

Dropped in for a work lunch. Both my colleague and I ordered the Calamari and Mussels. The Calamari was over cooked and like rubber. The Muscles were exceptionally small is size and portion, despite ordering the 'Large' portion. Even though we'll be working in the area for a few weeks, we've removed it from our dining options.

The staff was amiable and prompt in seating us. However, the food preparation took longer than anticipated, as it appeared that the kitchen staff was cooking one meal at a time instead of multiple orders. It is recommended that the doorbell be modified or the volume be lowered to signal when the food is ready, as the current notification is quite bothersome. Regarding the food quality, it was satisfactory overall. The steak burger was dense and dry, with a minimal amount of lettuce. On the other hand, the onion rings were cooked to perfection.

Fish and chips to die for......

Gluten free options, although they had just run out of gluten free flour the day we went and the menu was very limited. Even so, what we ate was very good and the waiters treated us very well!!

Waited over 20 mins for food to be told it would be another 20-30 mins. Only 4 tables occupied and they had be served. Cancelled order as we could wait any longer. Waiting staff looked very embarrassed.

Pleasent greeting at the Bar by Staff taken to room with an explanation of different areas available to visitors and Guests, This is a Grill and Bar for those not staying, as well as Guests. The Restaurant looked very busy so must be popular! I had Breakfast(not inclusive) but no dinner as I fancied a curry. The room was spotless single and very comfy! Lovely Soap, shampoo and conditioner products… shower is good, too. Tea, coffee in room.

Worst meal ever, my food came within 3 mins tried to wait as I was in a group of 3. I ended up finishing my meal before theirs even came out. Nothing available in stock. Don’t go average food with rubbish service

It was very quiet when we came in during the evening, but it picked up later on. I ordered a rump steak medium-rare and my partner wanted to order a vegan option burger from the menu but it was no longer vegan. Then he tried to order nachos with vegan cheese but they didn't have that either. We had to just get him a vegan brunch instead. When the food arrived I noticed my steak became cold rather fast but the rest of the food was nice. There wasn't much on my plate though and it was rather expensive for what it was. My partner seemed to have enjoyed his meal despite not being many vegan options. We had a sundae afterwards and that was the best part of the meal.

The food was great but the speed of service spoilt it. The kitchen seemed to be lacking speed, waiters were friendly but looked lost and not sure what they were supposed to do and you could see a girl in the kitchen eating chips whilst working!

A lot of the menu was not available. The nachos were smashed, immediately soggy and the pulled jack fruit was hard and not pulled at all (seamed to be put directly from can into sauce). The mac n cheese were really just ok, the fries were fine. Service at the table was quite unfriendly, but kind in the end for not charging the nachos after asking for feedback.

From the outside, you might not go in, but do, great food, good choice excellent service at reasonable prices.

If you see the restaurant from the outside, you wouldn't get the idea of ​​what a great restaurant it is. The host of our B&B pointed this out to us and we were not disappointed. A well-stocked menu with very, very tasty food. You really can't go wrong here. We had dinner twice and were very satisfied each time. What you definitely have to try are the desserts - simply delicious.

Afraid this visit was very disappointing. Waited more than an hour for food that we ordered. Mentioned this to the waitress who went to the kitchen and came back to say it would be about 5 minutes. Waited another 20-30 minutes and noticed other people were being served ahead of us, so went up to mention this, and that we had no choice but to leave as we had something else to get to. When we asked what happened, they said the order had been cancelled, without letting us know! All this after she said it would be a 5 minute wait. No really apology given. Very strange, and it has put us off coming here again. A shame after having been many times when it was quite okay. Needs better management, and I imagine it is down to kitchen staff, not the servers, who seemed a little embarrassed. So yes, as another person mentioned, I'd try and go somewhere else instead.

Lovely place for an afternoon coffee

We stopped here along the NC500, we found this hidden gem of a restaurant and decided to give it a go. Wow. The Food was Made with live And it was excellent quality, me and my family enjoyed the food. I highly recommend getting the Scottish Brunch as it is the Scottish equivalent of the British breakfast. However, it heavily lacks in atmosphere and has no real vibe. If you are doing the NC500 too, this is a must-visit.

This was our 2nd time of visiting, and it didn't equal the 1st time which was better next door in the bar as we had our dogs with us. We asked if we could sit upstairs only to be told it was shut and children weren't allowed only to later see people being shown up there! We wanted the meat sharing platter only to find out they weren't doing it, on a Saturday night that's just ridiculous and we were also informed there was no salmon or butternut squash on the menu, this meant we had to choose something else ending up with me choosing a chicken burger which came with a really tiny bowl of chips that looked like it should have been on the child's menu. My wife had the peppercorn pasta which was rather tasteless with no taste of pepper and the steak strips were fatty. The service started off well only to deteriorate as the evening progressed, trying to catch the waitresses eye was virtually impossible, a lot of rushing about here and there but forgot the customers that were there early and only concentrated on the new customers arriving. Really disappointed with our visit this time, spoilt by the limited menu so early in the evening, it was not what we expected.

A truly awful experience. Waited for an hour for our very straightforward food order and then decided we’d had enough and left. Feel sorry for the young servers who were trying their best to cope with the obvious shambles in the kitchen. The owners should be ashamed of how this place is run. I should have read the reviews before we went as it’s clearly a common theme.

Recommended by a friend. Probably should have been called the Y would you 🤣 No atmosphere, like eating in a hotel foyer. On the back of the menu it says they are a chain of 10 ish restaurants, not sure how they managed to open more than one with service like that. Food was very very dry. We had the fried breakfast and the sausage was so dry it was all wrinkled like when your fingers have been in the bath too long. The bacon was almost rubbery texture and again, way over cooked. Drinks, ordered 4 as 4 were dining. 3 came. The girl didn't think to say "did you order a drink" to the 4 th person. Just left. Later I called her over and said we are still waiting on a drink, apparently the waitress had forgotten to add it to the iPad. Said it would be right over. 20 mins later we had to ask again and were met with an abrupt "yes ok, I'm sorting it now". Ordered a side dish, again, apparently that was left off. It arrived after we were finished. We were sat near the door and overheard ppl come in and say "oh no, what have they done to it" and "oh it's changed" so assume that it hasn't always looked like a 90s wine bar. The table next to us also had issues of bits missing from order. Was so disappointed and my friend felt bad for recommending it when I showed her the photos of our food. If I were you, I'd avoid and try some of the quaint little local places that are much better.

Dad and four littles for late lunch. Food quality was absolutely out of this world. Staff are lovely and friendly and the place has a happy feel. Well worth seeking it out, it’s a little hidden away, but honestly we can’t hype the food enough! The mussels were to die for.

Suprisingly good place to have lunch.

From looking at reviews/online menu, I found I could possibly eat here with my food allergies (wheat/dairy/egg). We turned up, I went to the bar to ask what I could eat, and although there was nothing on the menu, they made me up a dish they used to serve - curry jackfruit & gluten free cous cous. Everyone enjoyed their meals, although I was very apprehensive after initially being served cous cous and not being told it was gluten free. Seems like a great place and would recommend.

Should have left when we were sat waiting for 10 minutes with no service, had to go up to bar just to double check they remembered seating us. Place was absolutely dead.Ordered seafood platter at a ridiculous £33 for what you get. Calamari rings taste and look like they came out a freezer. Muscles are extremely small and coated in a cheese sauce! The sea front is approximately a 10 minute walk if that and all the SEA food tastes bland and not fresh. Honestly can’t believe they are getting away with this type of service. Extremely disappointing would avoid at all costs.

Was passing through Thurso and wanted to get some food here but they were fully booked. The staff were all genuinely friendly and apologetic and even recommended other options for us. Will try it out when in the area again.

I had the steak burger and it is the best food I've had 'out' for a long time. The burger was tasty and just the right amount of chargrilled. It came with chips which were fluffy and yet crisp! The coleslaw didn't taste like it was straight out of a packet like you get at some restaurants, it was great - as was the relish. £29 for 2 burgers and 2 cokes. I would happily come here again if in the area.

Very impressed with the place as when walked in it was busy so had high hope the food was good only to be bitterly disappointed, server came over handed us 2 menus and said sit where you like so all good so far then about 20 minutes in came to get our order we ordered the wee breakfast and 2 teas then an hour later (no exaggeration ) our food came and was inedible as the bacon was so hard it could have been used as a deadly weapon in a gang fight. My husband who is at definite foodie and in our 21 years together I’ve not once heard him complain about food but today he couldn’t eat his food and we left without tipping. The staff seemed to have no structure in who’s serving who. Definitely won’t be back

Very disappointed. Been here a few times and enjoyed it so was very excited to come back, unfortunately it's clearly gone way downhill. We ordered the rigatoni pasta with spinach, mushrooms and peppercorn sauce, both pasta came without spinach and mushrooms or any real flavour at all. Also it came with garlic bread which wasn't specified so had ordered an extra side not knowing. After asking the waiter he came back and said there definitely was mushrooms in the pasta. Maybe we're crazy! Considering the 3 people at our table are all chefs and know if there is mushrooms in a pasta or not! Unbelievable! On top of that, the steak was bare minimum like they had cooked a full rump and put a third on each pasta dish. £17.50 each!!! and it had definitely been cooked on top a dirty grill as you could taste the dirty char. After all that we didn't even get asked for dessert after waiting a good while and we were on a schedule to get the boat so had to leave without. Clearly a badly organised team!

It's hard to recognize the place from the outside since the sign is different from the name of the place (it doesn't say bar & grill). Then the ingredients are vulgar of not much quality. They only take care of the presentation, little else. I do not recommend it.

We arrived at around 18:10 and ordered drinks and then burgers shortly afterwards. The drinks came quickly (although the white wine was room temperature; we had ordered white wine because it was hot outside - and inside - and we wanted to feel refreshed). After about 45 minutes, we had to order more drinks as our food had not yet come. We asked which white wines were refrigerated and were told that all the white wines were (but the 2nd glass of a different variety was also room temperature). We asked for an update on our food and were told it would be out shortly but were then ignored for a long while further. We later asked for a further update on our burgers (because we noticed that tables that had arrived after us had already received their food) and were told that the kitchen was "just fixing the salad" and it would be another 2 minutes. 2 minutes and then another 20 or more minutes passed so we yet again asked for an update, only to be told that our orders hadn't gone through (even though we were told earlier that the kitchen staff had said they were just fixing the salads and the burgers were ready - clearly a lie). To add insult to injury, we then saw that a newly-seated table were being served burgers and asked why they could not have served us those 2 burgers as we had been waiting over an hour at that point. We received a generic excuse and were told our burgers would be ready in 10 minutes. At this point, we decided to take our business elsewhere and left the restaurant. We got takeaway burgers, which we should have done in the first place.

We came here as a party of 5 on a Saturday morning for brunch after doing Thurso Park Run. Food was mega tasty and just what we needed to refuel. We had the Full Scottish Breakfast and the Vegetarian Breakfast. As someone who hadn't tried haggis before and wasn't keen on the idea of it or Black Pudding I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was

Definitely gone down hill since our last visit. Didn't have many of the drinks and food, staff behind the bar consistently smashing bottles behind the bar... Pretty average and will try others in future

Great place for dinner in Thurso

After a long wait the bacon and potato cake were on the burnt side. The tea cups were that small 2 mouthfulls and it was gone.

Several reasons as to Y Not - Slow 40mins no sign of food they said they had lost the order,.more like lost the plot, staff standing around yacking or hiding in the kitchen.. When they realised the error of their ways..they said 5 minutes more like 30..then the toastie arrived the toast was browned but the contents were cold..not nice..will we be back - NO.
