The Stables Restaurant & Grill in Highland

Food was OK, I had the steak burger, my friend had an 8oz, 40 minutes wait when three tables are on-going is harsh. The lads who worked in the kitchen .ade my female friend feel un easy, they swagger like they own the shop. The lady was nice, but she seemed troubled. The lad who served drinks was probably the only nice person there.

Very long waiting time for an inedible burger, the only noticeable taste is gasoline. The restaurant staff were unfazed by the situation.

We recently visited the Stables and were so impressed with the food and the service from Ben our waiter. The atmosphere was amazing. The music was gently in the background. We were so impressed that we booked again for 3 further consecutive nights. The food was some of the best that we have ever had anywhere ( we are well travelled). The steaks very perfectly cooked to our liking. The salmon was the best we have tasted anywhere. Not forgetting the cheese cake with cherries was amazing. A special thank you to Ben and all the staff,who helped to make our stay in Fort William memorable.

Had an amazing meal here this evening. 2x 12oz rump was cooked beautifuly. Chips tasted amazing and the puddings were lovely. Thank you for amazing food and a lovely evening.

Fantastic meal, great to talk to the manager, couldn't have asked for a better meal in lovely surroundings on the night we stayed. Second visit from us and I can say the standards have not dropped, great value, perfectly cooked, glad we came back

Great variety for grill and burger fans, won’t dissapoint.

A Gem off the High Street and very friendly staff. We had Shetland Isles mussels as starter, chicken chorizo risotto and 12oz steak as main course. The mussels were so big, juicy and tasty. It’i highly recommended!! The steak was cooked to requirement aund very tasty. Chicken chorizo risotto might be a bit blend in comparison to the steak and mussels. We also recommend the desserts!!

Great place, tasty food, value for money and attentive staff For 2 of us, we had a main each and we shared a starter and a dessert, total bill with a drink each was under £70!

Stumbled across this place by sheer luck, hands down the best food in Fort William. If you’re looking for freshly made incredible tasting food this is the place to go. Honestly the chef is a genius the attention to the quality and wow the taste was exceptional. Reasonably priced but my goodness it’s worth every penny I’d eat here every night if I could, 100% will be coming back. Thanks for making it so incredible

Great food and great service. Absolute recommendation

I don’t know why this place has so many good reviews. Food took over an hour. Only got a burger and a fajita. There’s no beer on tap let alone real ale that you can find at most restaurants on the main street. Burger fell apart immediately. Not worth the wait. I recommend going elsewhere.

Talk about accommodating - they seated us the last few minutes before close of service and let us stay till closing. They let us order anything we wanted, too! Good food, good drinks, and good service~

Absolutely delicious Angus Ribeye, super tender meat, the dish is well served, it takes a while because it has just been made but it's worth it, the people are super friendly and in a good mood

It is an elegant little shop full of local colors. It has a selection of risotto, sirloin steak and other delicious food. It feels quite good to wait patiently for the food.

That might just be the tastiest black pudding I've ever eaten. It took a long time for the food to arrive, but the wait turned out to be worth it. (Thanks Gogs for the tip)

Best steak we’ve had in Scotland. Perfectly cooked medium-rare ribeye. We arrived early without a booking and we knew we’d have a wait as the kitchen warmed up, so this wasn’t a problem at all. The steak was well worth waiting for. It came with a delicious, crisp on the outside, baked potato, some salad greens and a half tomato. I chose garlic butter with mine and my husband had peppercorn sauce. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Great service, food was absolutely fantastic. Took about 45min to a hour to get our food but definitely worth it. Everything was fresh and my chicken was super juicy. Highly recommend.

Typical dish of space mussels, with the best cream I have ever eaten together with shellfish. Meat very good and cooked to perfection. Toffee pudding and divine butter cream, on a completely different level compared to that eaten in other places. If we could go back we would gladly do so.

We were refused service unless everyone at the table would order main dish. We came with a few people and some of us wanted to eat while others would just get drinks. People who wouldn’t eat would have to leave for the rest to be able to eat. I visited a fair amount of restaurants and never have I seen such bizarre rules.

Excellent service and superb food. The venison steak was cooked perfectly. Portion size were large. A must visit but must book ahead. Good value for money.

We visited The Stables today whilst on holiday in Fort William. The service was fantastic, and the food was freshly cooked. The sirloin steaks were tasty, the ribs were massive and the fajitas were delicious. Looks like it is an independent family owned business which is always nice to see. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I treated ourselves to a midweek dinner at The Stables. We ate early (5.30). We had the sharing platter of warm mozzarella, salad, olives and freshly made bread, which was delicious, and plenty. Following this we both had fillet steak, both cooked as requested, and so tasty and tender...one rare and the other medium, a side of onion rings was crispy, tasty and more than enough for both of us. We were too full to have a dessert. The service was friendly, charming and attentive without being intrusive. Overall an excellent meal at a reasonable price. We will be back.

It took an hour for us to get our food, and no one who worked there checked in on us or apologized for the wait. They did not pay attention to our drinks, and we had to fetch the waiters to get refills. The food was underwhelming, bland and in small portions. We both had the venison, where there was a big difference in the quality of the slices of the meat. They use two of their tables in the restaurant for storage and for their office. It was quite messy all around. One of the restrooms was out of order. One of the chefs came out in the restaurant at one point and he was around 16 years old. Which might explain the poor quality of the food. They have a lot of diplomas on the walls for service and for good food quality, so we were surprised by the poor experience we had there.

Fair price-performance ratio. Portions are ok too. The ambience could be renewed again.

Food was ok, wasn’t impressed. I asked for a medium steak but it was almost well done. Took about 40 min to get the food for 2. There’s a parking lot just next to it.

Two of us arrived at 8:15 p.m. and, even though they closed at 9:00 p.m., they didn't let us in for dinner. The funniest thing is that outside we found a group of 3 people who had been told that they could come in to eat at 8:30 p.m. On top of that, I took a quick look inside the place and it wasn't even 50% complete. I think it didn't cost them anything to have accepted 2 more of us...

Nice restaurant, not too big with great, very tender meat (Angus beef fillet). On the other hand, there could be more sauce as an accompaniment, the same for the avocado with the nachos, the portions were thin.

Beautiful sirloin steak, best i have ever had. the pork and udon noodles starter was also wonderful, highly recommend, well mannered staff also.

The staff were so welcoming and friendly. An absolutely amazing place to be. The sizzling steak fajitas were sooo good. Makes me wish that I lived in Fort William.

Had a fabulous dinner with friends we met on The WHW. Excellent service and delicious meals. Get mussels to start and pork ribs as mains. Highly recommend.

Waited 55 minutes for food after ordering. Had a bland steak with a lot of fat and tendons. The burger was dry and ill tasting. The sirloin was not cooked the way it was ordered. When asked how it was, we commented on the long wait and got a lecture on how ‘good’ food takes a while to cook….the least they could have done was check in on us during the long wait, and assure us that it’s coming, and maybe offer some bread. No good service here to compensate for the bad food

Had very delicious food here and would recommend it to anyone visiting Fort William! You need to make a reservation in advance, and the walkin has a chance of being fully booked, because when we wanted to come here the next day, we found that the reservation was fully booked, which was very regrettable. This is the most surprising restaurant on my trip to the UK!

Great burgers! Good food all round

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident quite late in the evening after travelling all day and what a happy accident! The staff were friendly, accommodating and seated us quickly we didnt have a long wait for food even though it was cooked to order. The pork belly and steak were divine! Very very good food a little gem in Fort William.

Great restaurant! We had a wonderful meal there last night. Scallop starter was delicious, the steaks were great and the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world! Really lovely staff too!

I didnt had the chance to eat , however we tried tk call them begore reaching thebplace to book several time with no answer!! when we arrived to restaurant told us no more places and the lady told us that we shoul have called prior to coming to book !!! If they want booking first they should answered the phone , but anyway of service is bad i want trust food quality as well!!

Just excellent! The meat, Angus fillet, a marvel. I get up at night to eat at their place.

Wonderful food, we had the steak and the venison steak with side dishes, which were delicious and well cooked. The service was excellent, very friendly staff, and the restaurant had a very relaxing atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal, I would highly recommend having a meal at The Stables.

I was excited to go here from reading the reviews, but I was disappointed. I had risotto, which was crunchy, and my partner had the venison, which was very chewy and overcooked. The atmosphere was alright, nothing special. For a birthday meal out, it was pretty average 🫤

I will never give this place my business. We arrived in town after a long day of travel, and we had arrived barely past the time the kitchens closed, people were still seated and eating. I had my child with me and clearly we were hungry, not there for the bar. Grocery stores were all closing too. Lady turned us away, which I just think is culturally disgusting to do when a child needs food. I don’t understand Scotland’s inability to post kitchen hours or correct hours at all. I run a business too. It’s not that hard. We might have come for multiple meals but that’s lost business thanks to bad standards. If we were faeries testing their hospitality, disguised as weary travelers, they would have received a generational curse lol

Absolutely outstanding meal! We live locally and came out for a family Birthday celebration. Best food we have had in a long time. Was beautifully presented and so tasty ! Everything was made fresh and could not fault it. Staff were lovely and I can not recommend this place enough.

Great also non only Scottish food, smoked steaks with herbs and cozy atmosphere.

Really good place to eat, amazing Ribs and Steak for a good price. The waitress was very kind too.

Overall the meal was rather good, we feel that the products are fresh and homemade, however the lean steak, its particular and not unpleasant seasoning, is rather thick, which makes the burger quite dry despite it being very good. Maybe we should add a little of that good sauce given for the fries as well as an extra slice of cheese and it would be perfect But the steak is much too thick, it spoils the burger a little, maybe reducing its size to have a lower price could be more interesting Concerning the service we waited quite a bit, especially for dessert, close to 25-30 mins In total we arrived around 8 p.m. and left at 9:50 p.m. for only 2 dishes and a dessert The dessert was however excellent, it smells homemade

Very good little restaurant, we eat well there, and we had a pleasant time! The staff is very welcoming, kind and simple. A good meal for two at a fair price. I recommend without problem.

The meat of both our burger and lamb steak was cooked to perfection. The sides were super tasty. When we got there without a reservation the staff was kind enough to give us the option to come back later to accomodate us. Oh and the cheesecake was delicious. Very fair prices overall. I definitely recommend it!

Disastrous. I can't eat all kinds of pepper and here in Scotland there is a custom of putting pepper on everything. So I always order the simplest dishes and I highly recommend not having pepper. Here I ordered lamb on the grill and jacket potato. It was good, one piece of meat was first class, the other was not and there was a lot of pepper on top. The potato was sprinkled with pepper too. The restaurant was not busy and the waitress was not busy enough to have forgotten the order. And my husband joked about the fact that I don't eat pepper. I didn't even ask to do another one because I realized that the customer's well-being in this place doesn't matter. I really don't recommend it.

It was a great find in Fort William! We had a very good dinner in this cozy restaurant. The food was perfect to my taste! I was looking for some Angus, and I took both Ribeye and fillet perfectly cooked. Thanks to the staff for the support and kindness. Definitely, I will try to get back again.

It all started well with a warm welcome and a very attentive waiter. We ordered lamb and Scottish salmon. The lamb was ok but the salmon portion was in my opinion not more than 200grams (to be generous). Basically half a steak of salmon. As soon as we pointed out this the waiter told us do you want anything else or just the bill. Maybe we were unlucky and they caught few salmon on the day. Also I recommend to make better use of the table by the bar cause it is a bit unsightly to see a bunch of papers and a printer in the main area.

Never had venison steak, but it hit the spot! Best meal we've had on our entire Scotland trip. It's so hearty, unique, and just really well done. Advice is to book ahead!

Steak was cooked perfectly, best steak I’ve had outside of Australia. Ben our waiter was very polite with great service and gave us some nice tips on places to go and see whilst we’re staying here!

Sadly for £24 for sirloin steak it really did not meet our expectations. Too much fat on both steaks we ordered, garlic butter very over powering. Chips & salad wernt anything special either. Service was great although could have done with some extra staff and the place was cluttered with office items which really shouldn't be placed on a restaurant table. Not the experience everyone had told me about. Spent over £60 and could have got the same in Wetherspoons for far less

Had a new years eve dinner with my partner. The place was lovely and the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. The food was amazing, i had the burger and my partner had the steak. Best steak in town. Would highly recommend.

Visiting Fort William for the weekend and decided to try the Stables for dinner. The food was delicious. The service was excellent very friendly and inviting staff. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Visited two nights in a row. Excellent food. Best risotto we ever had. Burger, ribs and steak also exceptional. Service brilliant too. Only point to notice is that part of the dining room is used as storage which makes the first impression a bit unwelcoming. Which is not the case at all!

The staff that served us were kind,friendly and welcoming. The food and service was also outstanding, I got a steak and it was cooked perfectly to my liking. Up there with one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place,10/10.

My and my boyfriend are vegetarian\vegan and this food was so fresh and amazing, I have to write this review whilst still at the table. The chef is amazing and I highly recommend the side salad for whom ever comes to this restaurant! We had the vegetarian fajitas and the pea risotto with beer battered onion rings, fries and side salad!

The food is fantastic. I had a haggis burger which was gorgeous. And my hubby had the sizzling chicken fajitas. I would highly recommend this place. Staff were really frinedly and chatty.

The food tasted great and presentation was on point. 3 stars for service due to long wait times. Would definitely recommend. Just dont agree that 2 and a half hours is good enough. 20 minute wait for a few scoops of ice cream. Ribs tasted great but weren't hot when they came.

We highly recommend that you find the opportunity during your travels to dine at this gem of a restaurant. We booked in advance, recommend as we had tried the day before and unfortunately it was full. On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and led to our table. The service throughout our meal was of an exceptional high standard and the team checked back with us regularly to ensure we were happy and had all we needed - excellent. Particularly as the restaurant was busy, we felt our, and the other service we observed was personable, attentive and the staff made our evening special. When our food arrived, wow are you in for a truly wonderful culinary experience. The quality of the ingredients is evident and it was cooked to perfection. The portions and accompanying sauces were plentiful. In all sincerity our review will not do this place justice as it truly is a dining experience you will not forget and want to replicate. We will definitely recommend and incorporate another trip to Fort William to return. Thank you to the Stables team.

We were told it would take some time for the food to be cooked, which was perfectly understandable. But it took over an hour and the ribs on one end were over cooked. Ironically, if the chef had taken less time, we would have been happier all round.

While the food was tasty and steak was cooked to perfection, the horrible service and very long delays in getting served results in a rare 2 star review. Having read gushing positive reviews about this place, my girlfriend and I.. Tourists from out of town decided to stop by. We called and booked a table for 2 at 630pm. We arrived at 620pm and we're promptly seated. The evening is looking great. Then things started to go downhill. It took us 15 mins to get our orders taken..with 2 tables who arrived after us being served first by the pony tailed sole waitresses there. I waved her down and politely informed her we were ready to order, but was told in a somewhat mocking demeanor that she would be right with me. It took her another 10mins to get back to us. The 2 items we wanted to order.. Ribs and and the risotto were not available. No one told us in advance. Big letdown. To add salt to the wound, the one low alcohol beer on the menu also wasn't available. Food took even longer to arrive. We waited 40 mins before both our burger and steak arrived. Though the taste was good and portions were generous, the accompanying sauce was way too little for a steak of that size. Although my cutlery was swapped out to include a serrated knife, my partner wasn't even given a steak knife. She relied on a bread knife to cut her burger. We asked for water and I made it clear we wanted hot water. We were served a water jug with cold water. End of the night, we can't help feeling very frustrated at the quality of service and long food wait times. We weren't the only ones. We noticed other tables too incurred at least 30 min wait times for food. Perhaps we are an Asian couple.. Was this the reason our table was skipped not once but twice in getting orders taken? One can't help but to draw conclusions. Given the chance, we won't be back again. There are many other establishments in the area worth exploring. With hopefully better table service. If you decide to come here, come very early and hopefully you're of the right skin color to receive proper table service that deserves your hard earned money. And be prepared for long wait times for your food.

Nous avons pu déguster de délicieux morceaux de viande, gibier pour ma part et boeuf pour mon amie. La serveuse était accueillante et à l'écoute. Je recommande. Seul bémol, le service était un peu long mais l'attente en valait la peine.

What can I say about this little gem 💎 of a place. We were here on Saturday night and ordered a steak and ribs . Both plates were full of so much meat it was great. Everything cooked fresh and great quality 😋. Are server was absolutely amazing such a lovely woman. Hats of to chef my partner said it's best steak he has ever tasted and the ribs where definitely worth it wow we will definitely be back highly recommend everyone to go
