Hectors Bothy in Highland

Must say the food from this cafe is absolutely splendid, the staff are friendly and respectful and the service is great, me and my family visited 3 times as the fish and chips are amazing, and my sons absolutely loved the burgers and the chicken nuggets. Many thanks to the staff of the Hector's Bothy.

old fave in kyle - always reliable

We visited on a Friday afternoon in November as everything else in the town seemed closed. There is a nice view out to the harbour but the interior is quite tired and old fashioned. I must say that the service was great: friendly and efficient. However, our cakes were underwhelming - we didn't finish the carrot one - and I felt that these were overpriced for the quality. The Drambuie coffees were very tasty, though. If you know what to expect then this could be a convenient stop on your way to Skye.

Lovely place, called in on two occasions, the first time two hours after breakfast serving finished but the chef cooked it for us anyway 😋 excellent food (plenty of it) and will definitely return for the burgers which looked amazing, highly recommend 👍🏻

Café très agréable, très cosy. Possibilité de prendre à emporter ou de manger sur place. Les deux serveuses sont très gentilles ! Les prix sont très abordables par rapport à ce qui se fait dans le pays :) La nourriture est bonne et copieuse ! Il y a un parking public juste en face. Une belle pause dans ce café ! 🤗

One of the best burgers I have ever had. Great chips good beer friendly service.

We visited this little gem on our way in to Skye at the beginning of the week and on our way out of Skye at the end of the week. Cannot fault the food, the breakfast on our way home was great value and absolutely delicious, the Halloween decorations were brilliant too! .. blinds would be great in the window for when it is sunny as we did get rather warm when eating our lunch but that was our only downside. The staff were lovely and the food was brilliant, we can highly recommend.

We dropped in here on a busy Saturday lunchtime en route to NW Skye. Although the place was packed, our panini lunches arrived surprisingly quickly and were very tasty. Friendly and efficient service. We'll be back next time we're passing

Aangezien dit het enige geopende café was, zijn we hier gaan lunchen. Bediening zeer onvriendelijk. Kwamen elke minuut kijken of je al klaar was met eten. Ze wilden duidelijk gaan sluiten. Tosti was ok, ploughmans lunch ok.

Fantastic cafe 👏 great food and service

We've visited here a few times years ago but not since the pandemic; thankfully, it is still just as nice as it always was. We were here for lunch on a sunny Saturday and although it was busy we were seated quickly and didn't have to wait long for our food. All of us really enjoyed our meals, which were a pork & chorizo burger, a spicy bean burger, and a jacket potato with cheese. There's lots of choice on the menu and it was all really tasty with generous portions. Reasonably priced, too. There's a good amount of seating inside (although it's clearly popular, so may be worth booking if you're coming a long way) and on dry/warm days there's also some tables outside. We'll definitely be back again next time we're in the area.

A busy afternoon but fast service and great food

The service in this cafe is very good, and with a wide range of food offerings for lunch e.g. baked potatoes, burgers etc.

Good stop for lunch. Staff was very attentive even with a full restaurant. Side salads are nice addition to many dishes, Best chips so far on our trip!

Often stop here for a coffee or breakfast on my trips to Skye. It’s usually very busy and you sometimes have to wait for a seat - but the food is ok and service is usually swift.

Appalling. As locals we’re used to Hector’s menu being tired, unhealthy and unimaginative. But as a quick lunch spot to take our child after swimming it’s passable. Today the service was below its usual poor standard. Ignored when we came in. Told to go back and wait for the table to be cleaned despite signs to ‘take a seat’. Surly and inhospitable would be a generous description for the younger of the two waitresses. When seated and asked for a kids menu completely ignored by the rude and clearly jaded older waitress. What a miserable way to spend a meal time. For anyone visiting Skye I would recommend to avoid.

Great place for coffee and bacon and egg rolls in Kyle! We were on the way to North Skye so it was a very welcome stop and very comfy and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended! Thank you Hector's Bothy!

I queued for 10 minutes to get in. Superb I thought food must be good. Imagine my disappointment when after being seated I asked and was denied a breakfast. Asked why and was told breakfast stopped being served at 12:00. I checked my watch. 12:03. Surely not I pleaded. I was asked if I was a local and said no. That was that. I left. Travelled on to The Thistle, Strath Carron. Well worth the wait. Shame on you Hectors.

Didn't stay for coffee as staff very rude. Threw our menu's on the table and took orders from customers that arrived after us.

One of those rare places that still manages the holy trinity of tasty food, huge portions and very reasonable prices. Friendly service and pleasant surroundings to boot! A++++ etc.

Mooie uitwijklocatie om even bij te tanken met een heerlijke hot chocolat. Jammer dat je alleen contant kon betalen en niet met card zodat we eerst nog een ATM op moesten zoeken

Stopped in for a late breakfast. Wasn't too busy and service was friendly. The vegetarian breakfast was quite hearty. Good tea and coffee. Right next to a car park.

Just had takeaway drinks and a cake, but the staff were friendly and efficient. A much needed stop off for refreshments.

Lovely little place, not a lot of seats but a feast turnover so we didn't have to wait long. Cakes are delicious and a nice coffee also.

We called in here for lunch on a cool wet day in August and were greeted with a warm welcome. We had a simple lunch - jacket potato and sandwich but both were fine and what we needed. It is a no frills place but we would return here.Coffee was good too and service very friendly.

No cards accepted. PERIOD. I found a big sign "Cash only" at the front door today, pointing me to the closest ATM and didn't bother to enter. If you just don't accept AMEX, then write "No AMEX accepted". "Cash only" means NO CARDS = NONE.

Wasn't made to feel welcome was waiting by the door when some people wanted to leave so we sat at the table they had just left to get out of the way of the door, we where then asked to leave the table and wait by the door until the young lady had cleaned it which we did and again we where in the way of people leaving. The young lady asked us too go sit down which we did, we where left sat there with no menu for the next 15 minutes at least. We got up and walked out won't be going back would rather give my money to someone who deserves it!

Great food for reasonable prices.

Ottimo pranzo al centro della città. Bel locale, piccolo e pieno di tavoli, molto frequentato. Il menu è ampio, i piatti gustosi e abbondanti, i prezzi onesti. Il personale è cortese e attento. Decisamente un'ottima scelta.

We were on a touring holiday in Scotland and I desperately wanted to try a full Scottish breakfast. But it was Sunday so it was very hard to find a place that was open. But here we found Hectors Bothy. Well what can I say, the food was delicious and well presented, the staff were friendly and happy to help, the prices were very good, the atmosphere was brilliant, toilets and facilities were extremely clean and looked good as new. Me and my family left with full bellies and optimal satisfaction. It was overall amazing and would like to thank Hectors Bothy for giving us such a great experience. In the photo is their full Bothy breakfast with a slice of haggis.

Nice place to eat breakfast but a little pricey

Terrible food, almost inedible… we have had the scampi and the batter layer was so thick that the scampi were not to be found, and thankfully, as they tasted and smelled terribly. The peas would have been of use at culloden’s battle and the tartare was anything but home made. Only the fries are to be saved… Avoid it!

Such a friendly staff and such a good food! Really good value for money, prices are very reasonable and food well cooked, that’s why they are probably always busy. Breakfast really goos and fish&chips definitely!

This is an extremely busy place, & I can see why the food was yummy, the service was a bit slow, clearing tables that had people on them rather than empty tables. But I would still visit again.

I am getting a lot of negative feedback about Hector's from the weekly tours I take through here. Mostly about only one shot in large coffees making it very weak, and rudeness in response to queries. We tend to have 30 people a day going through, and perhaps they dont want tour groups anymore, but we go year round and in winter its a good income so it makes no sense they arent more welcoming.

Nice atmosphere. Food are OK. Fish and Chips is one of the best choices.

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch here. Booking Recommended though. Busy, Busy place but that didn't phase the Well-drilled Happy staff. Plentiful portions on Hot plates, just how I like my food. Very reasonably priced. Happy to Recommend 😉

Ordered a hot chocolate and banana milkshake. Hot chocolate was lovely, and hot. The banana milkshake was a pint of not so cold milk mixed with what was probably nesquik, for the price hubby was not impressed.

Excellent location by loch. Stunning views. Inside and outside seating. Fresh local produce.

We visited at the end of June, had a cheese burger, grated cheese on top, would have preferred the cheese to be melted, the panini's were much the same and luke warm ,the baked potato with haggis was not attractive but tasty I was told by my friend. The young members of staff lacked waiting skills, but that's not their fault.

Great wee spot we found when we were all very hungry - filled our tummy’s with delicious filling lunch meals and the staff were all lovely

Found this little cafe on our travels. Looking for a place to get breakfast on the way home. Had a lovely breakfast, best ever, the staff were lovely and very welcoming. Highly recommend.

Had a lovely meal recommended by our B&B hostess Shiela at Fasgath. Great food and portions are very generous too!

Had take away sandwiches from here today chicken and mayo she must have used the whole jar of mayonnaise in thess sandwich they the worst i have had could not eat them went in the bin would not recommend this cafe to anyone.

Awesome ale and beer and the fish and chips was fabulous.

Called ahead to make sure they were open on Sunday and they saved a seat for us until we arrived. Had the fish & chips and it was perfect.. huge portions, tasty batter and all the fixings!

Really enjoyed our meal here. After a long drive, was great to find a spot with delicious food and quick service.

This was a welcome stop for lunch. Travelling in early summer on a Sunday meant most locations for food were closed, and Hectors Bothy was the exception while we were trekking to Isle of Skye. The food was fresh and delicious, and the local beer was outstanding. Also, everything came at a remarkably reasonable price and the view was terrific. Again, this is a great location and source of food at a reasonable price with good views. Thank you again :)

Lovely place for brunch / lunch. Also dog-friendly. The staffs were are very nice as well.

Went for coffee and some lunch yesterday, I ordered a tuna jacket potato which was amazing! It was huge, great fresh tuna and salad, but my partner ordered a vegan breakfast and my brother ordered a tuna sandwich which both lacked a little for the price paid. But, the service was fast and friendly and the place itself is comfortable.

Family-friendly place to grab a bite, a pint, sit and chat over a scone, or all of that! My wife and I both had fish & chips, and agreed that this was among the best fish & chips we've had. Conveniently located, great and friendly service, and ample seating. Definitely recommend!

Greasy spoon just east of the bridge that crosses to the Isle of Skye. It’s busy with all the tourism to Skye - we were lucky to get a table. Coffee was fine. Food a bit more slapdash - I ordered a toasted ham, cheese...

What a shame. Unfriendly. Wanted a bite to eat but service was non existent. Left without ordering as we were kept waiting and felt as though we were an imposition! Went to the butcher around the corner for supplies and they were great!

Had plenty of full English/Scottish Breakfasts in my time - this place balances a perfect example of food taste, quality and price. £8.75 for a Full Bothy Breakfast and a cup of tea. Would highly recommend.

Very busy (only place open on a Monday).. Food fine, perfectly adequate.

Nice location, but find somewhere else to enjoy your day in Kyle of Lochalsh. Service was terribly rude. The worst anyone in our 7-person party had experienced in a while. The cherry on top was the waitress refusing to let us fill our water bottle with tap water for our elderly dog during a record-breaking heat wave. Definitely will not return.

Great breakfast for a good price. 1 of us had the Scottish breakfast and the other vegetarian. We shared somethings.

I had high hopes for this place given the reviews. Service was terrible. Had to get a menu from another table. The lady serving me seemed so disinterested and left immediately after I gave my coffee order, before I could order any food. I noticed she was the same way with other customers as well. The coffee was only mediocre and I left without ordering food as it was such an unwelcoming atmosphere.

We stayed for 4 nights in the upstairs flat. It's beautifully decorated and lots of lovely little touches . Amazing view over the Loch . Only downside is that the bed mattresses are so soft they're almost non existent. All four of us had sore backs and not much sleep. Also the music from the downstairs cafe starts at 7/7.30 every morning and blares up into the 2 bedrooms so no chance of sleeping after that if youve had a late night. I'd still recommend it and I would go back but sadly I couldn't stay the 4 nights again 😔

We stopped off at Hector's Bothy after visiting Eilean Donan and it was just whatvwe needed after a damp morning exploring the castle. The staff were warm and welcoming, the food was hearty and filling (the portion sizes were spot on). If you're after some good food and heading through Kyle of Lochalsh, it's definitely worth a wee pot stop.

Vraiment super! Nous avons eu un accueil chaleureux. La serveuse était très gentille! Nourriture copieuse et excellente ;) Pour 4 personnes (2 adultes et 2 enfants), nous en avons et pour 50 livres. Une très bonne adresse avant ou après l'île de Skye!

Worth travelling 500 miles for the famous haddock and chips! And the gorgeous views of Skye of course!

Loved this cafe which we visited while on holiday this week. Really friendly service, great menu and right by the sea. Just beautiful. Thank you for the best sausage and chips and Bothy Millionaire Sundae. We loved it here.

Great little restaurant. We had nearly 3hrs in Kyle waiting for a train, they didn't mind us staying there with our luggage. We had a lovely lunch and some drinks. The haggis lasagne was a real treat!
