Very disappointed with the service provided by the older lady who works in the shop. I was already getting served by one of the young ladies who are very polite and extremely helpful. The more mature grumpy lady just jumped in and took over and was rude to me and the younger member of staff who was in complete control of my order. Whilst the young lady found my order on the till, the older lader could not and put it through as something completely different which meant I was charged £1/90p more. I questioned this as I need the receipt for business purposes which had a completely different item on it at 90p£1 more and I was told "ach it's just 90p/£1 more". I'd just like to add that every other times I've been in I've been treated politely, professionally and with extremely welcome by the younger staff and the opposite by the mature grumpy lady with a "I'm in charge complex" with a very unwelcome attitude. A real shame as it would of been a very pleasant place to take guests. I've had experience with retail stores though not my actual job just a sideline and I'd certainly not employ this trumped up person and I feel sorry for her polite , helpful, welcoming coworkers. I would never wish anyone to fail the complete opposite but unfortunately with my knowledge in retail I can't see this place lasting very long ,due to high prices and not providing in my opinion the correct items for locals living in the village, no newspapers (mad even if selling at a loss) will lose lots of add on item business from locals ,workers and farmers from the area. The footfall for this kind of business isn't in the Cawdor area year round. I do wish you well but coming from this area and seeing and knowing what works, unfortunately the initial interest and footfall will slowly disappear. Best of luck

Delicious soup, sandwiches and fancy pieces! Stopped for lunch after visiting Cawdor Castle the weekend of the rat race and we had the place to ourselves bang on 12.30pm! Beautiful day so we sat outside. Generous portions at a good price

Lovely cafe with lots of local crafts on display. Very bright, airy and clean, which makes a huge difference. A good choice of snacks - not sure about gluten free, which would have been helpful. Lovely staff and goof coffee. Will be back!

So glad we chose this wee place for our lunch stop - served by cheery staff, we had exhuberant Coronation Chicken toasties, excellent coffee, and Orkney ice cream. They also have a lovely range of arts and crafts, plus a grocery section that must be really useful for locals or campers in the area. Good luck to them!

Amazing transformation into deli with small general store. The sandwiches and cakes are delicious and you can eat inside or outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is highly recommended deli to visit and try some cakes.

I went to the Cawdor Village Store today as I had taken a fall earlier in the day and just needed to pick up a few essential items. What a wonderful stocked shop I was able to get everything I needed and what lovely people I hurt my hand/wrist in the fall and they very kindly carried my shopping out to my car. Now that's above and beyond - thank you and see you soon.

In any small village the community depend on such as this store. Notice boatd info about all that is going on and diversity in terms of provision. It has a few tables inside and for good weather a patio to enjoy a coffee with cake or hot pie or sandwich. Handy for the wee items that don't need a trip to a big store. Open 7 days a week. Recognised stop over the motor cycle routes etc. Well done and thank you for a grand wee store/cafe

Quaint little shop selling most essentials. Got some lovely sausages and burgers for our Bar-B-Q. Also have a cafe with outdoor seating on a nice bit of decking.

My wife and I were spending a few days in the Nairn area and decided to visit Cawdor Castle. En route, we stopped in Cawdor Village and popped into the Village Stores, hoping to buy some sandwiches. What an absolute delight! We got a nice cheery hello as we entered and although the store is fairly small, it was very well stocked with all manner of provisions and giftware. There was an excellent selection of pre-packed sandwiches with great fillings( try the turkey and cranberry!) all very reasonably priced and delicious. Tea and coffee was from a top quality branded vending machine and also reasonably priced unlike so many other places these days. Rather than have lunch in the car, as it was a warm day, we dined al fresco in the autumn sunshine on the decked area to the front of the store with an orchestra of bird song! You can park almost at the door and access to the store is level. Try it for lunch or a snack next time you are in the Cawdor area and I am sure you'll be back. I know we certainly will!

We stayed three nights at the Tomich Hotel to be close to the hiking in Glenn Affric and it was the perfect location to base camp out of for our stay. The weather was quite variable in August so we liked being close to home when the weather would inevitably turn. Glenn Affric is very quiet, we saw very few people in the best way possible and likewise enjoyed the calm of The Tomich Hotel. We were thankful for the pack lunches the hotel chef prepared for us and for hot breakfast in the morning AND dinner in the evening. There is not a lot of other dining nearby so it was nice that everything could be taken care of food wise right at the Hotel. (The cafe next door has wonderful sandwiches and soups in the morning / early afternoon.) If you like peace and quiet and being on the doorstep of incredible scenery and hiking, this is the perfect place for you.

We went here for lunch after a walk. We had a dog with us and we knew the place was dog friendly. Never mind dog friendly: all-round friendly. The service was excellent and pleasantly chatty. The food was great, which was just as well because the portions were huge. I had half a portion of chili nachos with a side of chips. Even the half portion, after a walk on the beach, was more than I could eat and I was tempted to hire a room for a post prandial nap. It's a bit hidden from the A96, so best to get sat nav directions.
