Friendly young staff but only one seemed to be interested in interacting with customers and also did all the cooking... When we came into this half-empty cafe, none of the three people working acknowledged our presence. No one showed us the specials, no one asked if we wanted to eat there, etc. The young lady who was cooking all the food kept using her phone in between meals prep, touching food and phone interchangeably... As someone who had a lot of food hygiene training, I felt very unrelaxed! The gallettes sadly tasted nothing like the gallettes in France, but we are used to that in Britain... I also don't see the point in having plastic plants, really off-putting. There is potential in this cafe and it's nice to see something different. We may have caught them on a bad day but hoping some of this feedback can be used for training and improvements.

A perfectly- located restaurant offering superb views over Loch Ness. Be sure to ask for a table by the window when you book. The foot is fairly good, if a little overpriced for what it is. There’s a good mix of traditional British fare - haggis, fish and chips, steak - with a few Turkish dishes thrown in. It’s busy in summer and this, along with the wooden building, gives it the feel of being at a youth hostel or mountain climbers’ retreat, but the atmosphere is pleasant and the staff work really hard to serve the hungry customers. I had the Turkish lamb casserole with rice, flat bread and Turkish yoghurt. It was really good. Two starters, two mains, a bottle of wine and two coffees came in at £90, before tip.

Over priced, the definition of a tourist trap!!! We ordered the special of scampi and chips as the food menu was poor. £19.50 for a small portion of frozen scampi and oven chips (see picture). Poor customer service. The staff didn’t clear our plates and we had to go to the bar to pay as they appeared to have forgotten about us and the restaurant was not busy. Poor choice of drinks.

Came here two nights in a row - party of 5 - all meals ordered excellent and had a very nice waiter. Was going to lock inn 2nd day but had appalling service so came here 2nd night too. Kebabs are great and particularly enjoyed the baklava. Great setting, informal and so much better than the lock inn at the canal.

We had dinner at this nice restaurant, wonderfully located at the shore of Loch Ness. We had smoked salmon for starters, very delicious and a huge portion. For main course, we had the salmon fillet, which was perfectly cooked and came with some nice vegetables. The service was friendly and efficient. We recommend to make a reservation as the restaurant seemed to fill up very quickly.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat around lunchtime. Seated at a table right next to the toilet which was *really* unpleasant- around 10 people in the space of the 30 mins we were there got up and used the toilet and when you are eating….. it’s quite off putting to smell and see the toilet. The door opens in the direction of the table so any smells unfortunately are quite obvious. We asked to move tables as one became free whilst we were there - only to be told that they had a reservation for that table in 30 mins time (we would’ve been gone by then). I understand they want to squeeze as many tables into a tiny space but I really think they should ditch the table by the toilet or ideally move the toilet completely. Food OK although I asked for a banana crepe and got strawberries instead. Won’t return.

Lovely little place. Nicely surprised by the galettes quality. Quite nice (being French, i have quite some to compare to). The sandwiches were tasty, but the plate presentation was very modest. Beautiful views- but that’s all. The food was atrocious, very expensive (£21.00) for a lamb dish, (£17) for fish and chips. Lentil soup (£6.50). These prices are absolutely justified for the setting, IF the food was fresh and homemade. All I can say is that ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING was out of the freezer. Rolls with soup were the par baked ones- nothing wrong with that if it was a cheaper offering. Onion rings frozen, fish, chicken burger, all dishes served with limp and sad skinny fries- well, just mush fries shapes… Also, all drinks served in pint size plastic cups. Please think twice.

We arrived to an almost empty restaurant, “greeted” by a young woman who boredly handed me the menus and told us to sit where we wanted. The server seemed rushed off his feet, despite the lack of customers. Two of us had fish and chips and one had a chicken kebab. The grilled chicken was tasty, the battered haddock was… adequate. The chips were pretty terrible. There is a great view. I wont be back.

So disappointed. Came here a long time ago and it was a sweet little cafe with good food and lovely service. Unfortunately it has gone so far downhill that I feel the need to warn others about it. Firstly staff on their phones constantly and absolutely no atmosphere to the restaurant. The main issue is the food. Daylight robbery it should be called. £15 for a McDonald’s standard burger, in fact McDonald’s is fresher! The smallest bit of cheese is thrown on the super flat and frozen patty that tastes like it’s been at the bottom of the packet for a long time. Fish was okay for a frozen slab but like the burger, it was just thrown on the cheap looking plate. I hardly ever leave bad reviews but I’m just so shocked at how awful this place has become. The “spectacular view” that is their claim to fame will not lesson the blow of getting your bill or lesson the foul taste left by the food. Staff training and a competent chef team is needed. It’s a good job they serve mints on exit.

As we were waiting for a boat trip thought it a good idea to call at the boathouse to enjoy a snack and cuppa, the place itself is in a prime location right on the edge if the loch and TBH is the best thing going for it. As we were limited for time I just ordered soup of the day, Lentil with a roll and a plate of chips plus tea for two, the soup did not taste homemade as advertised, bland with no seasoning £6.95 , the roll appeared to have been nuked in the microwave as it was so hot, the chips £4.95 was a very small bowl of frozen scragg ends & not homemade as you would have expected, the tea was wet and warm and actually arrived 10 mins after the food very disappointing. Seeing some of the meals coming from the kitchen and presented to tourists for the price did not look inviting at all, definitely will not visit again as plenty of eateries very close by and wished we would have gone elsewhere. Total cost for food and tea £17.95.

The location is really great on the Loch Ness: pic-nic tables outside are certainly the best choice here, if weather enables. The place is obviously owned by a group of Turkish people, some of them struggling with speaking English. The staff is not particularly kind, but they care about what customers say. The food is rather good, and they really tried to Scottish-ize their menu (I believe they had no choice, as most of the customers are tourists looking for local food).

Booked the restaurant for family of 4 adults and one child, but did not realise that it really was more of a Turkish menu with some Scottish favourites thrown in. Service was not particularly good, we had to ask for drinks and waiter said , yes when I've finished cleaning a table? Also had to ask for the bill at the end. No atmosphere and staff were bit "stilted" and not sure if they really understood us? It was more of a refectory type dining and not great ambience. Limited views out onto the loch because of the small boat house type windows, but better than no windows as bits of the views were great. You would be lucky to get a table with one of the long windows but you can't have everything? The location is just amazing with pic nic tables outside. Not a lot of choice on the menu and I settled for the lamb casserole which was good but not a lot of it. This came with tzatziki, flat bread and rice, which I enjoyed it all. Others had the mixed and chicken kebabs and the meat to me looked totally dried up, so glad I didn't order them? My Granddaughter got the cheesy macaroni and it looked and tasted the best! My husband ended up with an upset tummy and said that it was something on the salad or one of the sauces, so it was not good for him? Totally over priced and would only come back here for the location and have a coffee?

Popped in for an early lunch on the basis that it got good reviews for GF options, which it did. I settled on lentil soup with a side of chips (my OH had the same) and our son had a burger and chips. I didn’t notice a price for the soup as it was on the specials boards but how much could soup be? What arrived was the thinnest, wateriest soup I have ever had, which had very little texture or flavour. Really disappointing. Along with a glass of tap water and two teas, our bill came to £55! We stopped off for a quick lunch stop walking the bike trail from Exmouth to Exeter. We ordered some baguettes which when at the table were tiny and the bread was quite over cooked and not nice to eat, but most of all the salmon creme cheese and dill didn't even contain Dill, which for 7 pounds I was a bit unhappy about as it wasn't a complicated sandwich. I thought overall they could offer a free salad with dressing etc, it seemed a bit mean on the presentation basically. I thought they could work on that as other cafes locally do offer more for the money. We had milkshakes too which were delicious and in nice glass mugs so. But I do think the cafe has lovely decor.

We booked The Boathouse following a trip on the cruise boat to see Loch Ness. Booking was easy over FB messenger. Arrived at the empty restaurant, and the guy behind the bar just pointed over to a table, hardly muttering two words to us. After sitting, we looked over the menu to realise it was ridiculously priced but put it down to The Boathouse having the monopoly in the area and having such amazing views over the lake. So, we ordered. The menu didn't have a child's choice so we asked to be told a choice of pasta, sausages or fish. We chose sausages for my 5yr old, along with cheeseburger, fish and chips, and The Boathouse chicken. When the meals arrived, my sons meal was wrong (they sent a child's fish and chips), and the others looked dried up on the plate. No one checked on us during our meal and the waiter went for his break leaving the waitress to serve 4 other tables, taking orders, making drinks, and bringing food out. The food was nothing short of packet food. My cheeseburger was thin with a slice of rubber cheese on, oven chips, and a limp salad (£11.50); The Boathouse chicken (£15.95) and haggis was smaller than your hand, showing more plate than food and the mash we asked for looked dry. Given the mistake when bringing my son the wrong meal, he ate much later than us. No apology that the meal was late. His sausages were clearly Richmond's finest except we were charged enough that they should have been gold encrusted! They were gristly and he spat a mouthful out thinking that he had broken his tooth. My son didn't finish his meal, feeling rushed that the other 3 plates had been cleared away when empty and it felt like he was the only one eating that day. When we asked for the bill, we still weren't asked if the food was alright and a bill for nearly £60 was put in front of us!! I could have cried. We left hungry and grossly disappointed. We are on holiday so unlikely to be returning but would hate for anyone else to have such a disappointment too!! My advice would be to go to the chippy across the way and eat it in your car... you'll enjoy it much better.

Great location but same can’t be said for our experience. Pleasant young staff trying their best but without any apparent guidance. Carrot and coriander soup was thin, oily and tasteless and halloumi starter was pale and rubbery with wilted lettuce. Lamb Guvec was actually very nice and tasty but the salmon dish appeared to have been prepared some time in advance and very dry. People had long unnecessary waits to place orders, receive drinks, food and to pay. Those seated outside due to Covid were told to wait to be served but no one was going out to them. They may be there till the next ice age.

Booked table by phone earlier same day. Well spaced tables following Covid rules. Good service. Starters a bit underwhelming but main courses very good ... delicious chicken kebabs!Small selection desserts ... sticky toffee pudding nice but chocolate brownie disappointing. Lovely location on waterfront, in grounds of Highland Resort.

Having read some of the reviews on here after booking, we were in two minds wether to come. Really glad we did, the food was really good and the Mixed Kebab I had was Exceptional. Just goes to show you can’t please everybody and one should judge places for themselves.Lovely views, lovely food - Thanks

Looking forward for another meal at this great location. Unfortunately not the same experience as previous visits. Not a pleasant welcome , average food and service . We won’t be calling back . Sorry.

Food is low quality, poorly prepared. Service is abysmal. The venue is a shack without any style or atmosphere. The menu offers cheap meals at inflated prices. You have to order and pay before your meal, unlike any restaurant I have ever been to (unless you call McDonald's a restaurant!). We asked for water, which never came. We requested ketchup to give the food some flavour. A little basket of sachets arrived - every one had been emptied and was sticky. Clearly handled by other people, this is not coronavirus safe. Disgusting. The worst meal and worst value I have ever had.

Visited on Sat 5th Sept with my husband and another family. This was our first visit to The Boathouse.Well organised for these Covid times. We only had main courses and we all enjoyed our meals. Service was good but I felt the staff could have been a bit friendlier. The restaurant is in a lovely location and there are great views overlooking Loch Ness. 3 of our party re-booked on the night to come again during their stay. We will def return if in the area.

Unfortunately after booking a table for 7.30pm tonight made via telephone call on 1st August and confirmed at the time there was no table available for us on our arrival. Staff made excuses of bookings being made online but these had not been put in the diary. We were also informed bookings had been taken on the day. We could see our booking in the diary for 7.30pm under my forename which was what was taken during the call. There were at least 6 people waiting to be seated and several parties behind us waiting to be seated having made bookings for around the same time as us. Every table was full at this point with people still eating. We asked how long it would be before we could be accommodated and were told a table would not be available In the next hour to hour and a half. We decided to leave and try to find food elsewhere. Having messaged to make our complaint known we were offered explanations of being short staffed, to us needing to be more patient due to the current situation with COVID-19. (This being the exact reason we booked in advance) the owners wife, after a stream of messages back and forward did offer to give us a free meal if we returned to the restaurant but by that point staff at Tbe Lock Inn had gone out of their way to squeeze us in, having tried several other places. I would have preferred to post a positive review and was looking forward to sampling the varied menu, but unfortunately this was taken out of our hands.

Good menu choices however we both opted for Dragon Nessie Pie, which was filling but underwhelming. The ‘dragon’ was maybe hiding with Nessie out in the Loch as there was no hint of the promised chilli! Not a great deal of meat either but plenty of gravy!

Couldn’t fault the location, definitely the best view in Fort Augustus. However, the food was absolutely terrible. The soup was watery and the halloumi was served with some soggy shredded lettuce and a slice of cucumber. Not restaurant standard at all and definitely not worth the money. A better menu and some nicer furnishings inside and this place could be incredible, but we were sadly disappointed.

Very disappointed with the service provided by the older lady who works in the shop. I was already getting served by one of the young ladies who are very polite and extremely helpful. The more mature grumpy lady just jumped in and took over and was rude to me and the younger member of staff who was in complete control of my order. Whilst the young lady found my order on the till, the older lader could not and put it through as something completely different which meant I was charged £1/90p more. I questioned this as I need the receipt for business purposes which had a completely different item on it at 90p£1 more and I was told "ach it's just 90p/£1 more". I'd just like to add that every other times I've been in I've been treated politely, professionally and with extremely welcome by the younger staff and the opposite by the mature grumpy lady with a "I'm in charge complex" with a very unwelcome attitude. A real shame as it would of been a very pleasant place to take guests. I've had experience with retail stores though not my actual job just a sideline and I'd certainly not employ this trumped up person and I feel sorry for her polite , helpful, welcoming coworkers. I would never wish anyone to fail the complete opposite but unfortunately with my knowledge in retail I can't see this place lasting very long ,due to high prices and not providing in my opinion the correct items for locals living in the village, no newspapers (mad even if selling at a loss) will lose lots of add on item business from locals ,workers and farmers from the area. The footfall for this kind of business isn't in the Cawdor area year round. I do wish you well but coming from this area and seeing and knowing what works, unfortunately the initial interest and footfall will slowly disappear. Best of luck

It's OK but tired and drab. Room was large but felt old. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast from last century, little attempt at healthy eating.

Went to the restaurant on Saturday night for a meal to celebrate my parents’ golden wedding anniversary. It was their suggestion as I don’t live locally any more, but they said they always have a good meal there. They weren’t wrong. Food was great, and so was the service, which really topped things off. Definitely recommend and thank you to the staff for making what was a low key celebration feel special, without even knowing about it!
