Good food good service. Normally perfect but this time the potatoes were slightly undercooked for my liking. Still my favourite Sunday roast in the area.

Lovely atmosphere, got us fitted in considering it's Easter Sunday. Carvery was lovely, very generous meat portions too. Fresh veg, loads to choose from. My partner had the burger and said it was one of the best burgers he has had! - he is extremely fussy, so this speaks volumes from him. Our waitress Becky was absolutely lovely, she was so hands on, and very accommodating to a large group of us. She was very polite, and very interactive with us. Which is lovely. Service is key to a good meal out, and Becky certainly delivered.

I came along with some friends for Sunday lunch, there was a good choice however, only one main course with the gluten free symbol by it ,[ and gluten free gravy ] which was salmon with hollandaise sauce. I asked the waitress if the roast could be gluten free, [ remember the gravy ..] but was told that if it didnt have the gluten free symbol, then it wasnt gluten free. My friend ordered the salmon and it came minus the sauce, which had gluten in it !!! . unbelievable, how difficult can it be.....she was offered and accepted a jug of mushroom sauce as she wasnt tempted by the gluten free gravy. We weren't sure of the purpose for the gravy if the roast wasnt gluten free. When the confusion was sorted we all enjoyed our food and the puddings were delicious. With a lot of people nowadays, needing to avoid gluten, I think the menu really needs to be sorted out.

Although I live a very long way from this place I have reviewed it before. Sitting on the outskirts of a depressing London overspill industrial estate it doesn’t have the credentials to be anything special. Indeed, from the outside it looks at best, underwhelming. However like most things in life, it is foolish to judge a book by its cover and this is where it’s strength lies. I think it’s really the staff that make it so welcoming and of course, the food. The ambience is lacking due to the dated decor although many people don’t move with the times so it will suit them. The food is good bordering on excellent. The staff were friendly and interested in providing good service to their guests.

We visited the Wyke Down on a Friday night for a family meal but we didn't realise that Friday's are now American BBQ night. This means that the normal menu is unavailable on this night. The menu that is on offer has different options, however I felt that there was a lack of vegetarian options. There was only one which was a mushroom burger. Personally, I'm allergic to mushrooms so this was not an option for me, so instead I had to have a jacket potato. Not my first choice for a meal out. However, the nachos I had to start were absolutely beautiful. The service was fantastic and the food that we ordered arrived at the table quickly and was piping hot. The staff were brilliant, very polite and helpful.I do like that restaurants have theme nights and have different ideas but I think the normal menu should also be available.

My wife and I visited recently, the first time in many months. We were aware that there had been a change of hands/ownership and thought we would give it a try.We phoned ahead to book a table, we were advised there would be no need as a table for two could be found. We arrived around 13.15 on a Sunday lunchtime (which not requiring a booking caused a little concern). The restaurant was not overly busy, with maybe five or six tables filled with diners. We were served drinks quickly and directed to our table. The menu was bought over quickly and our order taken. The Sunday menu may have been different from a weekday menu but Sunday offered a choice of three roasts (chicken, lamb, or beef), steak and bacon steamed suet pudding and 3-4 bar meals (ham/egg/chips, scampi and chips etc). The food (one roast beef and one suet pudding) was served promptly on hot plates. Two hot dishes of veg followed soon afterwards, one with roast potatoes and the other with mixed veg (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and beans). The roast potatoes were good, the veg tasted a little plain. There was not a lot of taste difference between any of the vegetables. There portion sizes were good, the beef had three generous slices and the suet pudding was large enough for all but the very biggest of appetites, certainly more than enough for me. Our plates were cleared promptly and a dessert menu offered and delivered quickly. Our order for one chocolate orange cheesecake and two coffees was taken. The cheesecake arrived promptly, the coffees a little slower, the dessert was gone before the coffees arrived. We paid the bill at the bar, again without any fuss. On the whole a reasonable meal, the atmosphere within the restaurant for a Sunday lunchtime was more akin to Thursday evening at 18.30! £38.00 for two was not cheap in comparison to other recently reviewed restaurants. I am trying to be honest, it was not a bad meal but it wasn't brilliant either. It certainly is different from when the previous managers/owners ran the pub and restaurant.

We were staying nearby for Thruxton over the weekend and needed somewhere to go for food in the evening. This place came up with good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The pub has several different areas; the restaurant, bar, pool tables and an adjoining campsite. Being a Saturday night it was rather busy, but we managed to book a table with only an hours notice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were told there would be 30 to 45 minute wait for food, but ordered anyway. Turns out our food came much sooner and all our dishes looked great. Portion sizes were very generous and I can highly recommend the sweet potato and leek tart. Lots of flavour and obviously very fresh. They have a great selection of desserts too which we just managed to squeeze in! Definitely worth a visit if you are staying nearby!

This was actually our second choice for a Friday evening meal-out as our first choice down the road was fully booked; but we were by no means disappointed. We were greeted by a warm, welcoming, friendly face behind the bar (something sadly lacking in many local establishments), who knew his ales and was very generous with the tasters too!We were informed that there had been a fire in one of the fryers in the kitchen, but providing we didn't mind a bit of a delay with our food, they were happy to take our order.Waitress was also friendly, but not overbearing or intrusive and actually the food was surprisingly quick despite the issues in the kitchen.Slightly disappointed that there was only one daily special on the board and that the menu hadn't changed much since our last visit last summer, but the food that we did receive was good, ample and very tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Recently changed hands this pub is a great place to eat with great value for money. The menu has plenty of choice with EVERYTHING FRESHLY COOKED and your taste buds know it. The new owners sensibly kept the two chefs of 17 years standing who cooked me a real old fashioned London Pride, beef and bacon pudding, delicious, followed by a very decadent banoffee pie. The friendly staff made us feel right at home.Inside the pub has several spacious rooms with beams and old farm tools and kitchen utensils decorating the walls and a wood burning stove. Lastly I have to mention that their toilets are some of the cleanest I have seen. We've been twice and will be going back! Ps there's a special senior citizen menu

I took my family out to this restaurant which, in the past, I have found to be consistently very good. However it appears to have changed recently. Atmosphere wise the dining area I thought was rather cold, temperature wise. There were a good number of people dining with a couple of parties going on which made it quite busy for the staff. The service and the food served was not up to the usual high quality I have come to expect at this venue, particularly the green vegetables selection and quantity. Roast lamb was served with copious amount of gravy which would have perhaps been better served in a gravy boat rather for clients who prefer not to have a lot of gravy.Salmon with Hollandaise sauce was rather Holandaise sauce with Salmon ie. far too much Hollandaise sauce. One main course did not arrive and sadly the waitress had to be reminded of this fact. The sweets however were very pleasant, perhaps even commendable. My tea was served from a teapot but had been made with Luke warm water hence it was a clear liquid and cold when poured, I pointed this out to the waitress who apologised and brought me a further pot of hot tea which was very pleasant. I will return once again, hopefully perhaps they were just having an off day.

Visited with a large party for a celebration but found the whole experience distinctly lacking.Everyone knows that if you book a large party there's little chance the whole party will arrive bang on time and ready to eat at the booking time. Yet it seemed that the food was ready right on time meaning that the waiting staff kept asking if everyone was there yet. As soon as the last 2 people arrived there was no time for a drink or catch up as the food arrived immediately. It was lukewarm unfortunately. They brought a pre-ordered dessert out with the mains (and didn't seem to see anything wrong with that) and one person didn't even get their main until everyone else had finished! Most of the food was left on the plates but the staff didn't seem to register that. We had to ask them to clear the plates eventually. One person asked if something was gluten free and was met with a shrug of the shoulders and an exasperated "I don't know!"Terrible service. Please train your waiting staff better. Bar staff were absolutely fine.

to the service we knew?We visited for a Christmas party just before Christmas with friends having eaten here and stayed on the campsite on several occasions over the last few years.Admitted some of us were were a few mins late due to traffic problems but no more than 10-12mins. We were shown to our table which was fine as our friends were already there and told someone would take our drinks order. Instead, within a couple of minutes, our pre-ordered starters were brought out and whilst some would call it efficiency, we were a little put out as it would have been good to catch up over a few sips of beer or wine first. I had to chase to get our drinks. No complaints with the starters which were well cooked and tasty as per usual standards but no sooner had we finished than plate were whisked away and our mains arrived, again well cooked and for me one of the tastiest steaks I'd had for a long time although they did forget the peppercorn sauce until halfway through.Again, as soon as we'd finished mains, pates cleared and we were asked if we wanted starters, or at least 3 of us were as the others had pre-ordered from the Christmas party menu. As I wanted another drink before ordering sweets, I asked the waitress to leave it a while as I also wanted to let the main course settle a little first, not an unreasonable request I thought. As we hadn't been asked if we wanted more drinks, a couple of us went to the bar to order and when we returned, the waitress was waiting for the order. I hadn't noticed but she'd waited at our table for our return which I considered very rude!Sweets duly ordered, these arrived quicker than a MacDonalds Big Mac in an empty drive through and again the food was good.Half way through, we noticed that the lights in the kitchen had gone out and our waitresses had completely disappeared! No one came out to check we were OK or to offer coffees or mince pies which I believe were part of the deal for those on a set menu. This lack or service wasn't down to being busy as there were only 2 other tables being served all "night" and when we left around 9.30pm due to feeling we'd outstayed our welcome, the pub was also empty with just the poor barman on his own. We didn't get the chance to tip (not that we would have due to the rushed service) as there was no one there to tip!Our compliments to the chef, but Wyke Down Management, please pay your staff to work a bit later and perhaps make your own presence a lot more obvious. I know Christmas is a very tiring time of the year but its also when lasting impressions are made....

Booked a table in the restaurant for lunchtime today. Had a phone call saying that the restaurant was closed and we would have to eat in the bar. Too late too cancel and book anywhere else so we grinned and bore it. The service is rather surly and unskilled, waitresses were amazed when I asked for an extra plate (two of my party were sharing) - you'd have thought I'd asked for the body of their roasted grandmother! Only two menus allowed per table - NO MORE! The well-nourished lady behind the bar is not totally hostile but is disinterested and if you try to talk to her walks away from you to stare at the wall! The food is fine if you like microwaved stodge with chips (and some people obviously do). The overall effect is low-key, depressing, and disappointing. Needless to say this will be our last visit to this rather crappy establishment - we're now looking for better. Oh, and sharing the bar with a screaming child was not for us a highlight. If you want crappy food, service, atmosphere then go right ahead and book. If you're looking for a nice dining experience then Wyke Down Country Cow-Shed is most definitely not it.

We must have chosen the day the Chief was off. The soup was not edible and none of those who ordered it were able to eat it, we think it had been double or triple spiced. Then the main meal of cottage pie was the meat section served speed thinly over a plate with a portion of potato in the centre. I can only assume the meat was put of a cold plate which took all the heat out of it as it was cold, although the potato was only just warm. Such a shame as they have some good reviews, feel what ever the issue was when we visited seriously let the place down.

There is a kids play area which leads out into camp site. It would be better if this was more secure for the kids. A gate would help. Inside there are pool tables and darts and plenty of space.Outside the owners dog wandered around the car park. I mentioned this to the staff who seemed to wish it would get knocked over to teach it lesson. We left after that. So much potential. Must be relying on the camp site to keep things ticking over. Disappointed.

We have visited Wyke Down on a number of occasions and can honestly say this is our favourite place to eat. Not only is it good value for money the food is always superb. My partner had a 16oz rump steak and said that it was the best steak he had ever had. I usually have the steak pudding and again it is the best. The food is always hot and plentiful with quick friendly service. Would certainly recommend a visit.

With a change of ownership we keep our fingers crossed that any alterations at the Wyke Down are for the better. All was well on our latest visit and echoing other reviewers the food is nearly always very good with a large choice of dishes and a great range of portion sizes - ideal for those with either large or small appetites. That's what makes the Wyke Down very good. It doesn't have the charm of an old village inn but it doesn't pretend that's what it is. What it has is the friendliness of a good local that is welcoming to all with well cooked food at a decent price and a good range of drinks with 3 cask ales on the go including the house "London Pride". So thanks to Peter for making the Wyke Down what it is today and we wait to see what plans the new owners have for the future.

I have been going to the Wyke Down for last six years since moving to Andover and just have to say that, apart from the odd wait as very busy, this place great. A very good range of locally made home cooked food. Love there shepherds pie, home made pate, burgers, steaks, pies etc etc. I have probably had nearly everything on the menu over the years . They also cater for parties which always go off without a hitch even with 30+ people. You can choose between eating in pub section or restaurant section plus there are darts and pool tables available.. There is also a driving range. Rustic setting with lovely countryside surrounding. Hope that with all the developments in the area that this place stays and carries on servings great homely food.

Just had another meal, here, today and once again amazed at the quality of the food. The rest of my party had the superb value OAP specials, which are fine, with a pudding included. There is a vast choice of meals to be had. But for me, the small amount extra for the Beef, Bacon and Onion Savoury Pudding is well worth it. Not many places do Steamed Puddings, but this is fabulous! Just don't eat anything else that day! Served with nice fresh veg and proper chunky chips ( or potatoes ) it is simply fit for a king...A charming and friendly waitress completed a very nice meal... along with a raspberry pavlova..... Recommended...

We went for a reunion lunch with friends - a group of 10 that had been booked well in advance. We had a side room booked for us. The organiser had unfortunately overlooked the request to take food orders in advance, however we all tried hard to compensate for this by ordering only simple meals and doing so as soon as we arrived. We had all arrived by 12pm and had ordered food to eat at 1pm or just after so no mad rush for the kitchen. The pub was virtually empty with few other people eating and our order was very simple - baguettes, jacket potatoes and a couple of burgers. However, staff made their annoyance clear. We received a very cold welcome with no smiles or eye contact being made during service, despite our attempts to engage them and be friendly. Such unprofessionalism is highly off-putting and I would definitely take my business elsewhere in future and I know my friends felt the same.

Heard some good 'recent' reviews for this venue and thought we would take the parents for a bite to eat. Must say, although it was quiet, the food and service was excellent. Two of us had the fish, chips and mushy peas which were very tasty and came in very generous portions. One had the cottage pie and I had the special of the day, beef madras curry with boiled rice and nan breads. All of us agreed the food was hot, fresh and very tasty. All this for less than £9 each.... Bargain. The desserts were a bit more pricier though at about £5 to £6 each, but again very tasting and fresh. The restaurant is a bit tired but very clean and the staff were very attentive. Will definitely be going back.

This pub is more or less our local and we eat here fairly frequently, usually on a Saturday lunchtime and have been doing so for several years now. The food is always excellent with a wide choice of starters, mains and desserts as well as a baguette/jacket potato menu. We have never been disappointed and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Good value for money.

This is bar far the best pub in the area for a meal with the family, as a couple or whenever and whatever your circumstance, the food is outstanding, the service fantastic it is clean it is spacious yjr play area for the children outside is safe and well maintained. This is a must visit if you are in the Andover area. I arranged a family meal for my parents anniversary so there was a large group of us, when booking, the lady talked us through everything and offered us a large room for no additional cost, going well above our expectations. To make sure we all got from the menu what we wanted we were asked to order a couple of days before, what a great idea. on the day we arrived but half our party were delayed due to an accident on the road coming in, the staff done ery well with this and did not looked stressed, although I fully appreciate this must have been a pain. However, when the food came once we were all there, wow, just wow. presented beautifully lovely portions. The vegetables all fresh were cooked to perfection. with a good choice of beer and wine, great food, great staff, brilliant clean facilities, we are going to be back thee I think many many times. Thank you Nicola and Louise for a fantastic occasion.

What a disaster. I do not recommend anyone throwing a birthday party to do it here!Firstly the buffet is definitely over priced for what you get... I had over estimated the number of guests by almost double and there was barely any food left! Not much of a selection either.I was not told at any point that children had to leave by 10pm - seeing as the person who's surprise party it was has 3 children this was infuriating! She had to leave too so the party finished much earlier than it should have done! I have emailed the Wyke down a couple of times already and still no response. Absolutely terrible - just don't bother.

Went for lunch with friends. Service friendly and within reasonable time. We all ordered different meals and to be honest I would have been happy eating any of them, they all looked so good. I had the lamb and it was absolutely delicious. Was expecting a slightly spicy sauce with it, which I didn't get but the sauce that came with it was superb and not a disappointment (I may have misread the menu). The chips were fresh - lovely and crispy which is always a plus. All in all a good experience. This was my first visit but it certainly won't be my last.

Whilst the food at the wyke down was acceptable the prices are well above what they should be. I paid £17 for an 8oz steak (which was only about 6oz after the fat was removed) with a small jacket potato 3 mushrooms and a tomato and salad. I have been to finer establishments where a steak is less money. My friend had a ham salad which had three slices of ham and that cost her £8. Whilst the food was cooked well I was very disapointed at the value for money.

Went here last year for a 40th wedding anniversary and was treated with a friendly courteous service. Called in for a meal with our daughter and her partner and the food was first class served with a smile by a real friendly young lady who treated us all with respect. The lady who was working on the Mother's day booking was also very friendly and said that they 300 covers that day which says it all. Give good food and good service and people will come.

Visited here for our customary “breakfast Friday” Came here 7 years ago when Pork Pie Sam Aldridge failed the Belly Gut Buster!!! I won’t lie! On that occasion the portion was big but the quality was poor. However this time, I can honestly say it’s one of the best breakfast we’ve ever had!!!! Everything was bang on and we were extremely happy with the offering. Had same great food ( fried bread was on point ) the staff were great and and we were full up like a tin can of crackers after. The apprentice Harvey was so impressed he tried to eat his fingers. And Bald Les took a shine to the lady behind the Eastern European Grol working the till All in All we had a great time, and next time we need a breakfast, some oil, and a hub cap we will be sure to pop in. Cheers and All The Best 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

We booked here as a Birthday Meal and pre warned when booking that in the party we had a Gluten Free Allergy requirement. When booking in at the Restaurant we asked for a Gluten Free Menu. Our order was taken and within the 5 for £20 starters requested 2 lots of GF Garlic Bread. When the starters came out all were on one platter and not separated and after a couple of minutes waiting requested plates to be able to eat/share the food and at this point was told 'by the way the Garlic Bread is not Gluten Free, we didn't have any'. Thankfully my son had not started to eat!!! We then asked for the Food to be taken away and was brought back 10 minutes later as 2 no Gluten Free Buns toasted with Garlic Butter. The main meal of a Burger and Chips came out with the same bun, which was not eaten as already had enough...... Safe to say the 10% added service fee we took off. Very disappointed.

We looked on Tripadvisor when travelling nearby and did a quick detour for lunch and are so glad we did! We (humans and a dog!) received a very warm welcome. I had the rainbow trout and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, my husband also very much enjoyed his steak pie. It made his day when he realised the fruit crumble was rhubarb as that’s always been his absolute fave! If in the area again we would definitely return!

On a chilly early spring day - after buying onion sets and seed potatoes in this high quality family-run garden centre - we had an early lunch in their warm conservatory café: delicious soup, bread and particularly outstandingly yummy - and large! - cheese scones - all home made. The cheese scones are by far the best in a 10 mile radius of Romsey! The garden centre is also known locally for the wide collection of high quality dahlia plants.
