This is a lovely place, we know that the staff have moved from The Dolphin. We liked them there and they haven't lost any of the attraction to chose their new establishment. My daughter is Gluten intolerant and the choice is second to none. This certainly does not mean that the menu is limited at all. We will be returning!

We visited on the first night the new management opened. The pub was packed but the staff were calm, yes we waited a bit for our food but WOW it was worth the wait. We shared a selection of starters and a Gamberi pizza and every dish was sublime. These guys are quite obviously foodies - great flavour combos and the freshest ingredients. Can’t wait to go back!

We had booked to have a special celebratory meal with my elderly parents at The Hunters Inn as we have had lovely meals there before. When we were handed the menus we were horrified to see that almost every item on the menu was marked “not available!” When the waitress came to take our order she explained that there was to be a change of ownership at the end of the week and there was a limited menu. As I had booked online the day before I was very disappointed that this had not been mentioned and my booking was taken in the knowledge that many items on the menu were not going to be available. Indeed we asked if cod and chips was a possible option and they had just sold the last portion! Very disappointed (not with the poor waitress who could not have been more apologetic!) we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. Our alternative venue was delightful and unfortunately I don’t think we will return to the Hunters Inn after this experience.

Very disappointing experience... Aside from the main course, which arrived in good time. Staff were more interested in 'the quiz' than serving diners - we had to fetch our own dessert menus from the bar, after waiting a very long time, following the main course being cleared. To cap it off, there was no light - or obvious light switch! - in the Accessible toilet!

Everything was good, mains, puddings, service by young waitress, up until the lady from behind the bar decided to come across to us and say would you like some more drinks and we said no, she then asked did we want the bill like she wanted us out, we told her we were waiting for puddings and she didn’t seem to like this and went off in a puff. Her tone of voice and attitude was out of order. That ruined the visit. We were thinking we will come here again before this happened but won’t be coming.

Visited on the Sunday of August Bank Holiday weekend with my ageing father. The establishment had been recommended to him by a friend. Due to the 300 mile distance between us we rarely see each other and his advanced age means that one never knows if the could be the last meal we share. I sincerely hope not as if this is the final memory of such a time then I would wish to erase it. Joyless, perfunctory food, cooked and presented without care, pride or respect. Thin, watery overpriced soup of carrot...just carrot, never heard of soup using that one vegetable. No corriander? Fish and chips, hard to get wrong you'd think, well think again. Hard, fatty chips of which few matched colour, most were simply small shapes of fat, the potato long gone. Ditto the fish, the cod had given up and let the fat win. Peas buried beneath, food just slopped on the plate. My dad's Hunters Chicken dried up, the chips matching mine. Asked the waitress about dessert, she bigged up the pancake stack. Oh, dear. Three bought in pancakes, jug of maple syrup on unattractive crockery, nothing else. Bill presented, £65, wine £12 for a glass. Extortion. Turns out a bottle online costs less than the glass. Probably a 400% mark up...outrageous. If the food had been anywhere near good, I wouldn't have cared. The only upside were the ladies serving us who were polite and friendly, otherwise a one star review. I didn't make a fuss as my Dad seemed happy enough, but unlike me he doesn't get out much, has memory issues and like I said it would have not have been appropriate for the occasion. I'll be hurrying down again soon to visit, make a new memory with him and hopefully enjoy a meal from an establishment that actually cares.

After having a stressful day due to family dramas, my wife (on her Birthday) and I needed to get some food before more family drama recommenced. We stopped at the Hunters Inn as it was en-route and had decent reviews. Despite not having reservations on a Saturday, we were found a table and seated promptly. Service from the start was great, prompt and attentive, without being overly fussy, especially given how busy it was. The food was great, didn’t take long to arrive, and was very tasty. Icing on the cake was my wife’s dessert. She has been let down so often with pub desserts in the past, she’s now wary of bothering. But she ordered an apple crumble, and it was the best tasting, decent sized crumble she had had in years. Despite how busy it was, it was the perfect break we needed in an otherwise crappy day, to eat, relax and enjoy a break, without any additional stress or drama. I made a point of telling you at the time, and I don’t normally write reviews, but I wanted to thank you again for adding some sanity to our day.

Me and My Partner booked Dinner here for my Birthday Yesterday as we were staying in the area and we are so glad we did. We had the Pie of the day Special “ curried chicken pie” and it was amazing. The Pie was Lovely and Filled to the Brim with Shredded chicken, we have never had a pie with as much filling as this one. The Mashed potatoes were creamy and Lovely too. This was our favourite meal during my Birthday Time away in Romsey and we would happily visit again if we are in the area. The service was nice too, the younger girls were lovely but it was the blondish lady that stood out the most, very prompt to clear plates away and ask us if we wanted dessert. We declined and asked for the bill as we were too full for dessert and there was no waiting about to pay, she came straight over which we really did appreciate. Thank you everyone ☺️

Visited the hunters pub with friends over the weekend, I was highly disappointed of the whole experience. I would not recommend anyone to go for lunch. The fish was chewy and very over priced. From every point they got it wrong. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. Table wasn’t ready when we arrived at the time we were expected. They said they didn’t receive our pre order, and we had an email confirming they received it. They looked again and found it. (We were only a table of 8) The food also took 40 minutes to arrive. My fish was chewy and gross. I asked a guy at the bar for another one he didn’t say one thing. Then they delivered a fresh one with not one word said. No sorry nothing. No one asked how our food was throughout our whole time being there. We had to asked for the bill. I’ve work in hospitality for 15 years and this place is rubbish 😂 and very over priced!! My fish in photo was prices at £18.90!! (Large) that is not large. I did go to the bar to change the bill to a small to the cheaper price but they should know what’s coming out of there kitchen small or large dishes if that’s what’s on the menu.

We booked a table, when we arrived we were seated quickly. We had to wait a bit for some menus, which was annoying as our toddler was agitated. We chose our food but had some questions for the waiter. I had the roast pork and I asked what veg it came with and he didn’t know what a parsnip was (he described it as the other thing that looks like a carrot). You do not expect this from a pub that does a roast on a Sunday. Also they had run out of cauliflower cheese! First of all we got the wrong meal served to us. When our food arrived, it all came at different times and mine was barely warm and the crackling was non existent? Disappointing roast. I got the pigs in blankets for my son and they were so tough he couldn’t even bite through them (to be fair they did take these off the bill) but it meant my son just ate chips. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

We have been here a few times for Sunday lunch, today was awful. We chose the chicken and it was dry and over done as was the bacon it was wrapped in. One of the veg, i think it was leek had a dreadful sauce poured over it and it tasted awful. I had apple and toffee crumble for desert which was so hot you couldn’t eat it obviously from microwave. We had house white wine which again was really vinegary and not so nice. We were so disappointed.

I understand my daughter and I may have a good sense of smell but my husband doesn’t and when you work in an area all the time you may become immune but having said all that I do think the manager needs to do something about the smell or not use the tables that are in line with the stench. We went for our Christmas meal (not the Christmas menu) with a group of people, I'm a wheelchair user and despite the age and location, it was surprisingly wheelchair accessible, I don't know how accessible the toilets are because I couldn't work out how to get to them, and when there is a lot of you, you don't like to make a fuss, especially as I could see the door, but our long line of tables were blocking the path to the accessible toilet door. The food was perfect, the service was fantastic, all the staff were really friendly and helpful, and went over and above to get our orders correct, even when there was some confusion about who had ordered before hand etc, but the staff showed great patience and understanding. We both had the Hunters chicken, which was delicious, and cheesecake and ice cream for dessert, which were much larger than expected, and the coffee was very nice. I would recommend this place, but if you are tall, you will have to bend, the bonus about being a wheelchair user I guess is plenty of headroom in old buildings.

We went there for our annual company meal at Christmas, there was 10 of us having the festive 3 coarse meal. Nobody had any problems with there food and many commented on how nice it was. The service was great, friendly staff and no waiting for long periods between each coarse. We would happily go back next year.

Overall I did not enjoy my experience at The Hunters Inn. There was a group of us and all food was pre ordered. The buns on the burgers were hard. We asked for peas instead of sweetcorn with one of the kids meals but it just came without any veg. The spiced pears were not as described: "Spiced Poached Pears Strawberries, Banana, Marshmallows, Brownie Bites & Waffle Sticks" It was spiced pears, vanilla ice-cream and chocolate sauce. Perhaps a mistake on the menu? Sticky toffee puddings were OK. Brownies were a good sized portion. Rest of the food was OK. We asked for the bill and it took more than 10 minutes to come out. We did not complain at the time so not sure how much could have been rectified and therefore can't comment on that aspect.

No central heating. Had to resort to getting blankets and anything we could find in the car to keep warm. In all honesty shouldn't even be open on one of the coldest days of the year. Everybody was wearing coats, blankets etc.

Sunday Roast. Excellent value for money. Small portion ( still a very good size) available. Service was outstanding - such a delightful team. Food plentiful and a very good selection. Roaring fire and dining room was busy but it could have been a little warmer

Hunters Inn right back on form. We used to go here regularly but hadn't for a while as it had gone off the boil a little. However on our recent visit this week we were thrilled to see Gemma back as front of house. Service was excellent, the food brilliant, and the beer just right. A lovely experience, we have booked in for the Adele tribute evening early December.

Visited here for our customary “breakfast Friday” Came here 7 years ago when Pork Pie Sam Aldridge failed the Belly Gut Buster!!! I won’t lie! On that occasion the portion was big but the quality was poor. However this time, I can honestly say it’s one of the best breakfast we’ve ever had!!!! Everything was bang on and we were extremely happy with the offering. Had same great food ( fried bread was on point ) the staff were great and and we were full up like a tin can of crackers after. The apprentice Harvey was so impressed he tried to eat his fingers. And Bald Les took a shine to the lady behind the Eastern European Grol working the till All in All we had a great time, and next time we need a breakfast, some oil, and a hub cap we will be sure to pop in. Cheers and All The Best 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

We booked here as a Birthday Meal and pre warned when booking that in the party we had a Gluten Free Allergy requirement. When booking in at the Restaurant we asked for a Gluten Free Menu. Our order was taken and within the 5 for £20 starters requested 2 lots of GF Garlic Bread. When the starters came out all were on one platter and not separated and after a couple of minutes waiting requested plates to be able to eat/share the food and at this point was told 'by the way the Garlic Bread is not Gluten Free, we didn't have any'. Thankfully my son had not started to eat!!! We then asked for the Food to be taken away and was brought back 10 minutes later as 2 no Gluten Free Buns toasted with Garlic Butter. The main meal of a Burger and Chips came out with the same bun, which was not eaten as already had enough...... Safe to say the 10% added service fee we took off. Very disappointed.

We looked on Tripadvisor when travelling nearby and did a quick detour for lunch and are so glad we did! We (humans and a dog!) received a very warm welcome. I had the rainbow trout and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, my husband also very much enjoyed his steak pie. It made his day when he realised the fruit crumble was rhubarb as that’s always been his absolute fave! If in the area again we would definitely return!
