My fiancée and I recently visited The Crook and Shears, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by a cosy atmosphere and friendly locals, making it feel like a true countryside gem. The highlight, without a doubt, was the food. I ordered the daily special, and the local gammon was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted – perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The pub has a warm, inviting charm, and the owners were incredibly attentive. Whether you're looking for a great meal or just a relaxed spot to enjoy a drink, this place is a must-visit! They’re even dog friendly and we saw plenty of friendly pups to say hello to. Highly recommend.

We dropped in on our way to Thruxton for a light lunch. There is a good choice of food with sandwiches, small plates and a main menu. We opted for two of the small plates and they were both delicious and well priced. Certainly one to use again if back in the area.

Mediocre food and service. Took over an hour to receive a ploughman's and cheesy pasta. Staff just shrugged and said they're busy. Food was definitely not worth the wait!

We hosted our engagement party here in the ‘skittle alley’. Really nice space perfect for hosting with a beautiful patio/garden so plenty of space for larger numbers! The team were super helpful, nothing was too much and they were so accommodating to everything I asked for! Everyone commented on how good the food was (buffet served) and the bar staff were amazing all evening. Couldn’t recommend enough and we will be back🩷

Stopped in for a drink whilst out for a long walk. Very quaint pub, the space is used well and the small bar well stocked. The toilets were clean, and the garden was packed on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Staff were lovely and welcoming. Our dog was welcomed to and a staff member brought a dog bowl over for him, incase he was thirsty too.

I found this lovely country pub when looking for somewhere halfway between me and a friend and booked lunch based on recent reviews, we were not disappointed. There was a warm welcome on arrival and total patience as the chatting took priority over deciding what we were eating. The lasagne was delish and the ambience just lovely. Particularly liked the emergency hygiene baskets in the ladies, such a thoughtful touch. We will be back to visit again

Puddings on offer Victoria sponge?? Overall for what should have been a special and saved up for night was a waste of money and a disappointment.

The food was incredible, I had the smoked haddock with potato gratin and hollandaise, the wine was fab and the place had a great atmosphere! Small, characterful pub run by lovely couple. They were a bit stretched on the day we visited, with just the two of them and a few items off their small menu. However, they couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful to our group, for example by offering a puzzle for the children. We stumbled upon this lovely little pub quite by accident, thanks to Google! I was looking for somewhere not far off the main road to meet a friend, and this came up. The description of a "thatched pub" sealed it for me, and oh! I'm so happy we came here! The village looks like something straight out of a tourism brochure: thatched roofs, narrow lanes, history everywhere you turn... it is just beautiful. And the pub itself: slanted ceilings, huge old fireplace, dark beams, even a friendly pub dog! Neil, the landlord was very welcoming, as was the young lady behind the bar (didn't catch her name). Oh, and a lovely, quiet beer garden out back. Would definitely recommend this pub, and I look forward to stopping here again on a future trip back to the UK!

After having driven past The Crook And Shears in the pretty village of Upper Clatford many times, we finally had lunch there yesterday and it was a very pleasant experience. This thatched pub is beautiful, both inside and out. It is a traditional small English pub, low ceilings with beams and the bar in the centre. It is tastefully decorated in calm colours while maintaining the charm of the old building. And fresh bouquets flowers on the tables. We had the ham, egg and chips and fillet of haddock with gratin potatoes and poached egg, both dishes were delicious. And they have Doombar on tap, so what’s not to like. This is a small gem of a pub and it has earned itself a place on our list of regular pubs to have lunch or dinner at. Well worth a visit.

I must say that the atmosphere at this pub was both homely and comfortable. The food, particularly the pork belly, was simply delicious. The steak pie was also good, although it couldn't quite compare to the pork belly. The beer was also excellent. However, there were a couple of drawbacks to my experience. Firstly, I was asked to move to an isolated part of the pub almost immediately after sitting down. Secondly, while I had ordered sweet potato fries, I was served chunky chips instead. Lastly, I found the place to be a bit chilly and wished I had brought a thicker jumper. Despite these minor issues, the pub's excellent food and drinks more than made up for it.

Our dinners arrived quickly and our plates were very full, the food was delicious, my wife could not finish her plate but I persevered and enjoyed all of it. The George Inn is a lovely pub with great staff and delicious food. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the quality of the food is reflected in the price. It is a great autumn/winter pub (I imagine it's a glorious spring/summer pub, but I just love the fires). We visited on Sunday 10th Nov 24 to celebrate my dad's birthday, it was also Remembrance Sunday. As you can imagine Sunday lunch is popular, so book in advance. Please please please take note of one thing that the pub and team itself do not have direct control of - the clientele. Particularly the apparent military locals, who of course have significantly higher standing than anyone else in society. I recommend the pub fully, just proceed with caution if you are noise sensitive or have an aversion to arrogant individuals that believe only their experience matters. They suggested they are military and Remembrance Sunday is for them and no one else. Frankly, their inability to manage their children's behaviour and volume ruined the experience. They wanted to make sure they knew we are local, with that in mind, if you happen to be there when Captain Arrogant and co are there, make sure you are seated nowhere near them, they are entirely anti-social.

We booked here as a Birthday Meal and pre warned when booking that in the party we had a Gluten Free Allergy requirement. When booking in at the Restaurant we asked for a Gluten Free Menu. Our order was taken and within the 5 for £20 starters requested 2 lots of GF Garlic Bread. When the starters came out all were on one platter and not separated and after a couple of minutes waiting requested plates to be able to eat/share the food and at this point was told 'by the way the Garlic Bread is not Gluten Free, we didn't have any'. Thankfully my son had not started to eat!!! We then asked for the Food to be taken away and was brought back 10 minutes later as 2 no Gluten Free Buns toasted with Garlic Butter. The main meal of a Burger and Chips came out with the same bun, which was not eaten as already had enough...... Safe to say the 10% added service fee we took off. Very disappointed.

Posh pizza was supposed to have blue cheese...it came smothered in too much cheddar....very soggy and saturated with grease from the cheese. The taste of the cheese completely swamped everything else. My husband had a pizza with pepperoni but also had far too much cheddar cheese on it. We only ate half of our pizzas.

We looked on Tripadvisor when travelling nearby and did a quick detour for lunch and are so glad we did! We (humans and a dog!) received a very warm welcome. I had the rainbow trout and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, my husband also very much enjoyed his steak pie. It made his day when he realised the fruit crumble was rhubarb as that’s always been his absolute fave! If in the area again we would definitely return!
