Tucked away in the heart of Hampshire, The George Inn is a quintessential English pub that feels like a warm embrace on a chilly evening. As you step inside, you’re greeted by the crackling of open fires, the heart and soul of this charming establishment. The atmosphere is delightfully old-school, with wooden beams and vintage furnishings. The staff here are nothing short of wonderful, striking the perfect balance between friendly and professional, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Their attentive service adds to the homely vibe, ensuring that your glass is never empty and your spirits are always high. And the food! All locally sourced meats from local farmers and roasts are 10/10. I recommend the steak sandwich to dip in the gravy. A proper old school freehouse!

The George Inn is a lovely pub with great staff and delicious food. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the quality of the food is reflected in the price. It is a great autumn/winter pub (I imagine it's a glorious spring/summer pub, but I just love the fires). We visited on Sunday 10th Nov 24 to celebrate my dad's birthday, it was also Remembrance Sunday. As you can imagine Sunday lunch is popular, so book in advance. Please please please take note of one thing that the pub and team itself do not have direct control of - the clientele. Particularly the apparent military locals, who of course have significantly higher standing than anyone else in society. I recommend the pub fully, just proceed with caution if you are noise sensitive or have an aversion to arrogant individuals that believe only their experience matters. They suggested they are military and Remembrance Sunday is for them and no one else. Frankly, their inability to manage their children's behaviour and volume ruined the experience. They wanted to make sure they knew we are local, with that in mind, if you happen to be there when Captain Arrogant and co are there, make sure you are seated nowhere near them, they are entirely anti-social.

We came today as a very large group booking, for a family member's 70th Birthday Celebration. All the staff were absolutely fabulous. They were all so polite and friendly. Nothing felt like it was too much trouble. It's such a warm and welcoming place, with lots of character! And the food was just delicious! I had the beef ribs, which I'd highly recommend! (Although I'm partial to mash and a nice rich jus! Or a pint of yummy beef gravy! 😉) Everyone else enjoyed their meals, of which were Chicken Burgers, Salads, Seafood Chowder (which I can vouch, smelt amazing!) For the kids, Chicken Nuggets, Sausages, Scampi and more. Everyone clearly enjoyed their meals!! . Our daughter has allergies, and they were fantastic from my initial call before ordering, right up to us to us leaving! Absolutely fantastic!! I wish everywhere was like this!! The main guy even remembered her allergies from our phone call a week or two ago!! They really put my mind at ease! Thank you very much The George Inn for a fabulous lunch qnd afternoon. We'll definitely be back again soon!

The place to be if you want to get to know England. Lovely pub, great food and lots of locals. We took the plowman for lunch. This was also the reason we came back here. We were here in October too. 3 types of cheese, tasty ham, bread, salad and some pickles. Delicious. We were pleasantly entertained by 3 old men who discussed their 'complaints' 😁. After lunch we cycled through beautiful Hampshire and then drank a nice ale on the sunny terrace. Super.

A treasure of the Hampshire countryside. We cycled leisurely up from Whitchurch via Tufton and Longparish. We had a very friendly welcome upon arrival in this packed traditional pub. Staff were attentive and knew their menu and ales perfectly. On the menu today: partridge (shot locally just a few days earlier). It was delicious! The real ales were great (4 on tap) and so was the local lager. We had to cycle back before sunset, so alas, there was no time to try any puddings. We shall be back! Aside: there are 3 pubs along the route named George. Update Sunday 2023-11-05: still awesome. Superb place for plaice today. Service is fantastic. 5 real ales to choose from. Others know too: reservations a few days in advance are required! 13/7/24: still awesome!

The George Inn is a fairytale come to life! This pub embodies everything you imagine from books and stories. The ambience is nothing short of magical, with open fireplaces adding a cosy, welcoming touch. The staff are exceptional, providing friendly and attentive service that makes you feel right at home. To top it all off, there was a fantastic live band playing in the evening, creating the perfect atmosphere. Even the presence of a friendly dog wandering around added to the charm. Visited for an early evening meal and ended up spending the rest of the night there playing ‘Who Am I?’ and then ‘Shut the Box’ with Ariane who’d finished her shift and Leanne a local Pre-School manager and regular at The George! A traditional pub and restaurant in a lovely village setting. Roaring log fires, real ales, friendly, warm and welcoming staff and wonderful ambiance. Although it was very busy the service was quick ,polite and smooth. The food was beyond anything you would expect in a village country pub. We came for lunch to celebrate my dad's 89th birthday and as soon as I arrived I could tell we'd made the right choice of pub. The pub is beautiful in a lovely setting with loads of seating out the front so you can sit, in the sunshine, and watch the world go by. The staff were super helpful and friendly and the food we had - Ploughman's, Ham Egg and Chips and a Burger were all great quality and good sized portions. The 'icing' on the cake though was 'Buster' the pub dog who greeted us as soon as we arrived and politely sat with us outside. Such a gorgeous and well behaved pooch - we were asked not to feed him (and we didn't) and although he gave us the odd pleading look there was no begging or pinching of food. As my dad is a great dog lover - it really made his, and the rest of the family's, day. We hope to revisit very soon.

We booked here as a Birthday Meal and pre warned when booking that in the party we had a Gluten Free Allergy requirement. When booking in at the Restaurant we asked for a Gluten Free Menu. Our order was taken and within the 5 for £20 starters requested 2 lots of GF Garlic Bread. When the starters came out all were on one platter and not separated and after a couple of minutes waiting requested plates to be able to eat/share the food and at this point was told 'by the way the Garlic Bread is not Gluten Free, we didn't have any'. Thankfully my son had not started to eat!!! We then asked for the Food to be taken away and was brought back 10 minutes later as 2 no Gluten Free Buns toasted with Garlic Butter. The main meal of a Burger and Chips came out with the same bun, which was not eaten as already had enough...... Safe to say the 10% added service fee we took off. Very disappointed.

Looks and feels like a pub, with comfy seating and fireplace, but the food was amazing and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Had a great meal here.
