The best roast I have eaten in a long time! We had one beef and one chicken roast and the previous week I had the lamb, all of which were outstanding. The food came within 10 minutes of ordering as it was a Sunday one assumes the roasts just need plating. It was hot with plenty of veg variety. All the staff are so friendly and attentive, all in all its a great village pub.

Called in after a walk on Friday evening. The pub was full before 7pm. A great atmosphere and a good selection of real ales served here. I also hear the pizzas are pretty good. It’s great to see a pub doing well.

Spent a lovely few hours with family for a birthday meal. The venue and staff were extremely welcoming and everyone's food was excellent BUT be warned - if you plan to have the pie take a pick-axe because an ordinary knife won't work!!

Genuinely a great country pub, always a conversation, three live fires, great selection of ales and the food and service, top marks.

If you want an idyllic English countryside experience, you can't go far wrong with the George. Fantastic food, chocolate box building, roaring fires, and super friendly staff and clientele.

Cracking pub. Great atmosphere and lovely food. Also a good selection of beer. The classic village pub (but freindlier). And a pizza oven at the weekend.

It's been 30 years since I was first old enough to drink in these hallowed halls, but it was only on a recent visit that I noticed that this is as close to the Prancing Pony at Bree as I care to imagine.

Trip out for lunch with friends. An excellent country pub with log fires, very friendly and attentive staff with good food and well kept beers. Bowman Swift One and Flacks Double Drop ales were in great condition and very enjoyable. We all chose vegetarian meals that were really well cooked and very tasty all at a reasonable price. Compliments to the chef. Would definitely recommend The George.

We went for a quick impromptu lunch and it was delicious. Fantastic staff, great atmosphere with a table in front of a roaringblog fire. Perfect.

A treasure of the Hampshire countryside. We cycled leisurely up from Whitchurch via Tufton and Longparish. We had a very friendly welcome upon arrival in this packed traditional pub. Staff were attentive and knew their menu and ales perfectly. On the menu today: partridge (shot locally just a few days earlier). It was delicious! The real ales were great (4 on tap) and so was the local lager. We had to cycle back before sunset, so alas, there was no time to try any puddings. We shall be back! Aside: there are 3 pubs along the route named George. Update Sunday 2023-11-05: still awesome. Superb place for plaice today. Service is fantastic. 5 real ales to choose from. Others know too: reservations a few days in advance are required!

This is our go to place when we have been for a walk, the thought of their amazing Sticky Toffee pudding keeps us going as a reward for when we get back totally recommend this pub for food ,friendly staff, and all round ambience.

Never been to the George before, and had an impromptu visit today. The food is fabulous and the staff super friendly! It’s also dog friendly!

Had scampi, chips and salad (what could possibly go wrong 🤷‍♀️) Turns out pulling a human hair out of my mouth while eating my salad could go wrong!! 🤢

Lovely countryside pub in a quiet location, we stopped off here for a drink on the way home from Hungerford. Very friendly & welcoming staff and locals. A good selection of drinks. I tried the Queensbury Jack Session IPA; highly recommend.

Excellent real ale and superb lunch. Home cooked food at its best. We will come back for an evening meal.

Went early so not many in but staff were lovely and the pub itself is cosy and welcoming, also dog friendly. Buster the pub dog is delightful!

We came for lunch to celebrate my dad's 89th birthday and as soon as I arrived I could tell we'd made the right choice of pub. The pub is beautiful in a lovely setting with loads of seating out the front so you can sit, in the sunshine, and watch the world go by. The staff were super helpful and friendly and the food we had - Ploughman's, Ham Egg and Chips and a Burger were all great quality and good sized portions. The 'icing' on the cake though was 'Buster' the pub dog who greeted us as soon as we arrived and politely sat with us outside. Such a gorgeous and well behaved pooch - we were asked not to feed him (and we didn't) and although he gave us the odd pleading look there was no begging or pinching of food. As my dad is a great dog lover - it really made his, and the rest of the family's, day. We hope to revisit very soon.

Great pub location. The staff very welcomeing and happy. Good choice of beers. It is a old pub so has good atmosphere. Didn't have any food...but what I saw it looked good. Also at the time it had live music which was very good and had a great afternoon stay. Will be visiting again

Heard all good things about this place. Been 2 times recently. Food was better on second visit. A dog friendly pub, (fine in the bar area) but the owners dog ended up sitting on a chair at our table in the restaurant while we were eating….not good for us!!

Love this beautiful old Inn. It's drink selection was great, friendly staff, open fires and Buster the dog makes this a place we will be returning to.

Called in for lunch over the Christmas period with friends after a walk. Large group of ten but service was swift and attentive. Food was good quality and there was a good choice.

We had a delightful evening at the George. We felt so welcomed and looked after as soon as we arrived. The food was superb - simply presented but well above expectations for a pub meal. Lots of guest ales, and the one I had was excellent. Highly recommended.

The George Inn is the perfect village pub. Dogs welcome, filled with locals and those from further afield, it has excellent and friendly service. The roaring open fires and dark oak beams make you feel right at home as you enjoy a drink or some food. They are more than happy to cater for those with dietry requirements and there is a varied choice on the menu. I 10/10 recommend this pub.

We popped into The George Inn for lunch today the pub was lovely and cosy with a huge log fire very welcome on a grey day . The owner and staff were friendly and welcoming and our lunch was very tasty we will definitely go there

An ancient low-beamed hostelry way, way out in the sticks. Lifting the latch on the front door we were superbly welcomed by a small dog, wagging its tail amiably. The staff were equally amiable, and our drinks and food appeared ere long. My wife had a prodigious and varied Ploughmans and my elderly sister and I steak & ale pie with mash. Wow! You couldn't stuff another chunk of tender steak into that fabulous pastry, and the red cabbage, cauliflower et al was to die for. We ate every scrap - ooh, I tell a lie; I slipped a few snippets under the table to the attendant dog! When we visit my sister again, she wants to go back there. And so do we!

Very pleased to have a meal out at the George with friends. Our first trip back since the beer festival. We got seated by the fire, very snug. Very nice pint of Pigswill and as good a steak as i’ve ever had anywhere ! Great pub.

Have been here a couple of times before. The food is always the best. The owner is always so welcoming, as are the staff. Had a roast dinner for the first time and it was lovely. Yorkshire Pudding was the best and it included cauliflower...

First time at their beer festival, and it was absolutely lovely . Will be returning!

A lovely pub building in a wonderful village location. It’s surrounded by beautiful thatched buildings on a quiet road and is a good place for a drink in a picturesque setting. Just don’t eat here. The staff are energetic and exuberant, deserving of decent quality...

Fantastic old rural pub with friendly and helpful staff. Stopped by for a spot of lunch. We ordered the club baguette chicken blt. All i can say is wow ! It was huge and very very tasty and complemented with some excellent crispy chips. I will most certainly be back. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a lovely home-cooked pizza, and a burger with chips, topped with cheese and chopped bacon. The service was really nice from the French propriétaire. A great lunch spot, despite the Covid-related garden closure. We left wishing we lived closer to this pub!

Went for an early dinner so the place wasn't especially busy, but the atmosphere was great, the service was excellent and the food was tasty and well cooked. Will definitely visit again next time we're in the area.

Excellent service. Staff speak Greek, Polish, English and French. Great food and great beer! Picturesque view. Horses and other animals passing by often. Lovely tiny pub dog... Never heard it bark. Great atmosphere. Live bands, and even plays.

I find in this country there’s always room for improvement as far customer service goes, particularly as I was practically made to eat faster at another local pub recently to vacate the table. BUT not here at The George Vernham Dean. The team of girls...

Good oub great food, lovely staff.

Four old friends, we shared a happy lunch here last Saturday. We sat comfortably inside in the window, well looked after, and each enjoyed our choice, including whitebait and meatballs with spaghetti. It was all excellent.

Good food/sized portions and good beer.

Greeted on arrival, table outside, polite service and sensibly socially distanced. Service was attentive but not intrusive.

Given the circumstances it's difficult for any landlord/last to be happy but was greeted so nicely by the land lady here when picking up a couple of their lovely pizza's. Also the takeaway beer bag is inspired!!!!!

Always a pleasure to go to The George dog friendly safe and a warm welcome and as always excellent food which has been consistently good over the many years we have been visiting. Do so hope it survives this new lock down.
