Don’t waste your money here. The food (we had cake) and drinks are fine… how hard can it be to make a cup of tea? It’s the surface here which is appalling as well as the manners and attitude of the staff. We ordered two slices of cake, a pot of tea, a children’s drink and a cup of coffee. It must’ve taken almost 10 minutes for these things to be delivered to our table… We sat in the dog-friendly area because I had taken my small black dog with me. The dog friendly area had an empty water bow;l today was a very hot day and my little dog was thirsty so i asked for some water only to be told they couldn’t touch the bowl, but they could get us a jug of water. Couldn’t see a problem with filling the water bowl, but my do, my responsibility; the water didn’t came so my friend went to ask again. The colleague who offered to get some water hadn’t so I ended up going to get the water that was intended for people to drink. Why advertise yourself as dog friendly when something as simple as a bowl of water on a hot summer day is too much trouble? Just rude, indifferent people. Service throughout the whole garden centre is impossibly slow. there's an absolutely brilliant little local nursery just down the road, and just across the road from dobbies there is a fantastic café , go there instead and spend your money there. Dobbies is a big chain and they really don’t seem to care about customer service.

We have been many times to Dobbies cafe before and found food mediocre at best but the lure of the free drink with my Dobbies card caused us to try once again. We ordered just a coffee and a tea cake each. Now a tea cake is very hard to make bad but they were biscuit like, probably stale. The butter had melted in the pack, obviously they had been left under the hot lamps to keep them warm. I’m not renewing my Dobbies card next year and we’ll be going elsewhere.

Excellent coffee and cake served by friendly staff. One star deducted for slightly long wait but it is a busy cafe so understandable.

Whilst visiting for the first time we thought we would try out the cafe area. It was busy but after waiting 45 minutes for 2 jacket potatoes I asked a waitress what was happening. Initially she said they had given our order to someone else who somehow had ordered exactly the same thing. Next she came back to look at the receipt, even though it does not state our salad choices she managed to bring out our order correctly. I asked if we could have fresh drinks because ours were long gone and she then got annoyed and said I would have to ask the drink girl. We did get fresh drinks but our food was luke warm. No apology was made by anyone . I would have to think hard before eating here again. Very disappointing service.

Rudest staff! I work in retail and have experience in hospitality and Dear lord, the ladies here are horrific. We were stood waiting at the till to order and no one acknowledged us. I had to ask if they were still open and was met with a rude NO! When I replied they could have acknowledged us, they came up with a rubbish excuse that they thought we were waiting for people in the toilet (we were clearly at the till and they chose to ignore us). When we stated that clearly wasn't the case, they then continued to verbally abuse us as we left the cafe. As Dobbies members, it was disappointing as we purposely stopped here to enjoy a coffee in the cafe on our way from Cambridge to London.

We went to Dobbies a couple of weeks ago for breakfast. As we both don't like black pudding or tomato I asked if we could swap them for something else. Unfortunately they do not allow that - you either have something you don't like or go without, this is despite there being a selection of items for breakfast at £1.50 each. For instance, you could get a sausage; bacon; egg etc. Eventually, after the lady at the till went back to the kitchen, a man came out and said it is company policy not to change anything as it has to do with allergies! Eventually they swapped the items for a flat mushroom and a hash brown. When the breakfast finally arrived everything on it was luke warm or cold. The only thing warm was the egg. At £14 for two it was not very nice at all! Then yesterday we went for coffee (weren't going to chance a cold, horrid breakfast again). I had a hot chocolate which was barely luke warm. The staff don't seem to know what they are doing most of the time. We also ordered a toasted tea cake and when that come, the two small packages of butter were actually dripping onto the plate! I had to take it back to the till and get her to replace the butter. All in all not a very nice experience. We certainly wouldn't eat there again!

We visited the Dobbies Restaurant here at Royston at about 3.15 in the afternoon. We ordered coffee and cake. We sat down and waited and we waited. The restaurant was not at all busy. There were 3 ladies on at front of house. Finally the cake came and we waited for the coffee and we waited. When the coffee did come we were one cup short. The waitress huffed and puffed and was certainly not happy. We finally got the cup of coffee but it was certainly not what was ordered. The restaurant was dirty and there were trays full of dirty crockery and discarded food collected from tables which had been placed on the counter in front of where the scones for sale were kept. It was not a very nice sight. Management for the restaurant could really do with a shake up and the front of house staff need some lessons in how to be front of house staff. If they are not happy then they should move on. We will not be visiting again. Not all Dobbies Restaurants are like this. Dobbies at Huntingdon are on the ball - great food and great staff.

Rudest staff I’ve ever encountered. The lady serving made me feel like I was massively inconveniencing her, I gave my order and waited 25 minutes. When we asked if everything was ok the lady said ‘yes I haven’t got to it yet ok’ she was so rude and how she still had a job is beyond me reading the rest of the reviews. No oat milk (not a problem) but we’d say there for 20 mins before they told us. Again they made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. Such a shame as it’s a lovely garden centre but the staff - most are older members of staff are incredibly rude and have no customer service. If they continue to behave like that people will stop going. They made a friends reunion into quite a sad meet up with their attitude.

Visited this Dobbies cafe today, The cafe is nice, clean and spacious. The cake and tea was fine. However it was all spoilt by the staff, they had appalling attitude, and were unfriendly, unhelpful and rude. At 3.30 there were, not surprisingly hardly any customers, Thus the staff were doing very little. Most comments on here say the same. its obviously a very poor management issue. Come on, whoever owns this Dobbies branch bring in a new broom and sweep it clean. IT COULD BE A FANTASTIC PLACE TO EAT, if only someone in management cared about it and made good the staff problems.

Having been to Dobbies in Shrewsbury a number of times whilst travelling to and from Wales I was pleased to have come across another branch reasonably local to my home. Stopped in on Sunday for some lunch. Walked into the restaurant and the first thing noted was the state of the sofas. None looked clean, splattered with food stains etc and crumbs everywhere. Found a “clean” table further in but difficult to relax due to the cold atmosphere caused by over efficient air conditioning. Checked out the menu and decided to have a toastie. My partner joined the long queue to be told when he got to the front that there were no toasties. Ordered a tuna and cucumber sandwich on “grain” bread which turned out to be basic whole meal and tasted dry. The salad side was limp and warm as served on a warm plate, presumably just out of the dish washer. Children running through the restaurant between the play zone and toilets was a health and safety hazard. Staff looked harassed and tired, uniforms scruffy and several had long hair that was not tied back. Will I return? Never to this branch, Dobbies you should be ashamed of this restaurant!

Went to the food place in Dobbies Royston. If I could give no stars I would of. I stood in the queue to order our food. Well after a ten minute wait Jeremy took my food and drink order I paid at 11:05. Sat back at the table and we waited. We could see people around us that came in after us getting severed at their tables. The drinks turned up 15 minutes later but still no food. I spoke to a waitress she said she would check still nothing so I went up to the counter she said sorry forgot to come back to me and our breakfasts would be next so I went and sat down again. Still nothing and others were still being served so I went again they said yes it’s coming. Yes you guest it so I got my receipt out and went up asking for a refund. It was now 11:45. I still had to pay for the two coffees which I felt should of also been refunded as a goodwill gesture but no only the food. I am sorry to say I will not be going there again to eat(or not in this case) or recommending them to anyone. Very disappointed indeed. I know I was not the only one to go up and complain as I watched others but I think I was the only one to ask for a refund.

We keep receiving emails inviting us to the cafe for various good value meals - breakfasts, lunch fish and chips afternoon tea etc. Great except you can't have it at Dobbies Royston not sure where they expect us to travel to for these mealsas no hot meals and this has been ongoing on for several months. So badly managed and HQ don't seem to care probably only a matter of time before it is taken over or closes as like us many people would go elsewhere. Excellent restuarant at nearby Bury Farm fortunately. Do not recommend Dobbies based on the cafe.

Sign at entrance to cafe warned that only food available was cake. No problem as only wanted cake and coffee any way. No other customers waiting, but at counter were told by staff that there was a 30 minute wait for cake as ‘they’ve got a bit behind’. Couldn’t believe what we were hearing - how can you get that far behind when only food being served is cake?! Decided not to accept this poor level of service and left via exit on other side of cafe. Walking through, we noticed everyone in the cafe had cake and drink already, so came to the conclusion staff just wanted to get rid of us so they could close early (it was 3.30 when we visited). Have since discovered this ‘30 minute wait for cake and coffee’ situation has been going on for weeks, and management are aware. A very strange way to run a business!

We visited on Sunday 24/4/2022 and timed our visit so we could have a meal in Dobbies cafe. First impressions were not good as we walked in through the outside plant area. There was a bald headed member of staff, with a big mouth, moaning to anyone that would listen about the diabolical staffing situation and management. We went to the cafe first, intending to eat and then look round for our intended purchases. However, there were signs at the cafe entrance saying only drinks and cakes were on sale. I had a tea and my wife had a Cappuccino and a cake, that she described as very sickly. Whilst we were sitting at our table, motormouth came in from his watering, was loudly acting the clown with a customer's sunglasses, before going behind the counter to get his own drink and then leaving. Not THAT short staffed that staff can act the clown and enter a food area after handling and watering plants outside, then ? We had our drinks, left, and went elsewhere to make our substantial purchases. Definitely won't be coming back here.

It Arrived with rock hard butter and nothing else. It was a run of the mill cheese scone! And ,for me, not nice to eat. My husband ate mine but said 'it wasn't the best'. All I could taste was bicarb and salt. Cost £2,50 ! The coffees were nice and the cake we had was nice but the staff, other than the lad that took our orders (he was a pleasant lad), do need a lesson in 'front of house'. We have been visiting Dobbies for the last month or so and have used the cafe. Each time we have been told that the air conditioning isn't working. Fortunately we have been able to sit outside. However today 16th June we were unable to sit outside because the decking is not safe. We sat out there on Sunday. What is going on there. Surely the air conditioning should have been fixed by now. We decided not to stay for lunch because the poor staff there were so hot and working under terrible conditions we did not want to add to their work load. Obviously it is all about making money and not the welfare of the staff. Shame on you Dobbies

Now branded Dobbies, I visited their restaurant at 11:45am fancying breakfast but disappointed that they finished serving it at 11:30 so asked for fish and chips instead. When advised that this was only being poked and it would take half an hour, I jokingly commented on being late for breakfast and was delighted when the server said "no bother, we can do that". Nice response and nice meal delivered within minutes.I have to say that their Covid procedures are amongst the best I have experienced in large scale public restaurants. Met at entrance, escorted to a free table, menus placed in a bowl and table service throughout. Speedy table sanitising, items delivered on trays which were placed in front of the customer so no need even to touch plates and all staff wearing PPE. The manager of this restaurant really has it organised.Food was OK (bearing in mind I was late in ordering a breakfast so some items were suffering from heat lamp however the freshly cooked scrambled egg was superb and I reckon it was the best I have had in a longtime.

Went to have food at the Café. Lady at the front hovering over us demanding to see us check in on the NHS app. A bit overbearing. sat us down saying someone would come and take our order. 20-25 minutes passed and still no one. Only one girl tasked to take everyone's orders. There was no system in place to prioritise those waiting the longest, she just took orders walking around left to right. Eventually went to serve us and started taking our order. Another staff member took her away to serve another table who had waited longer. Well excuse me, that is extremely bad etiquette to take a server away. Plus, she took orders from several tables who arrived after us, before she even reached us! We just got up and walked out. Manager clearly has no idea what they're doing, staff have no idea either. They will continue to lose customer if they keep on trying them like this. We then drove 5 minutes down the road to Bury Lane Farm. Sat down in minutes, hot drinks served within 5 minutes and food served within 20 minutes. George the manager is spot on and runs his restaurant properly. Dobbies...dreadful, we will not be returning.

Shocking We stopped by the garden centre today to pick up some early Christmas gifts, I have been to this garden centre plenty of times but never visited the cafe. So we decided to have a quick bite to eat. First impressions were fine, the woman who greeted us was very lovely and took us to a table. A few minutes later the manager brought us some menus. We picked what we wanted to eat, a roast and ham egg and chips. When he returned he told us that they didn’t have 70% of the items on the menu and they had run out of both of the items we wanted. Being understanding as they said they had a busy Saturday lunch we picked something else; a tuna mayo jacket potato and a bacon and Brie toastie. The food came quickly. Unfortunately it was deeply unpleasant and over priced. Not wanting to be rude and feeling quite hungry. Not yet feeling as though we needed any sort of compensation we tucked in :/ . Bread was stale, Brie was non existent. Still no sign of our drinks. Ten minutes later the first drink arrives: what should have been an oat milk cinnamon cappuccino (which i understand is a little bit complex) they forgot the cinnamon. Not a problem, the lovely lady who was serving us went back to fix it and find our other drinks. A couple minutes later she should have returned with an orange hot chocolate, a glass of water (it had been 15 minutes since we ordered these drinks) and of course the latte. What arrives?Orange juiceCinnamon latte (reg milk) Send it back. Finally the orange hot chocolate comes and it is absolutely foul. I paid up front and I am really disappointed. I go to have a chat to the manager to make him aware of what’s happened and how disappointing it is. He is incredibly defensive and becomes angry. I walk away not wanting any further argument and leave the cafe and garden centre. Won’t be back

Terrible. Waited in a queue for 20 minutes that hardly moved. Got into the queue when only breakfast was available but the staff didn’t bother to inform anyone waiting that there was no breakfast available. The queue hardly moved and the staff didnt seem to have any sense of urgency to serve at a normal pace. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant because most people were in the queue. When asked if the breakfast was still available we were told that they were short staffed. We are still unsure the relevance of the comment but also if they were short staffed then the sense of urgency would seem even more important. When we asked to speak to a manager we were informed that there was no manager on site until 3 days later!?!? This was a day when ‘eat out to help out’ was on and there were 5 staff and no manager. Very bad business sense. We gave this place another try after a previous disappointment because before Dobbies owned it, it was an amazing place. Never again. Absolute rubbish. The woman serving could not help so I assume she was the only person there. Although why she couldn’t have cleared it herself I have no idea. Aren’t they supposed to disinfect tables after use by default now? After a wait I placed our order to be told they were not doing food. What?? No idea why they couldn’t have put a sign at the entrance or at the counter or taken down their signs advertising the opposite - very poor.I will avoid the place like the plague in future. Visited Sunday 24.11.2019. So I arrive about 11.25 and join the queue to order drinks and food. At approximately 11.35 I'm finally asked what I would like, I answer toast with poached eggs and a black coffee. The answer is "we don't serve hot food between 11.30 and midday". I explain that I've been in the queue prior to 11.30 and the slow nature of service has prevented me getting my order to them. "We are not allowed to serve hot food between 11.30 and 12.00 midday". There was not offer of an alternative but merely a "take it or leave it" There does not appear to be any flexibility with the staff probably due to a management directive. I'm sure that at the very least they could have acknowledged my predicament and maybe offered some toast as hot was still being taken out to others and this would have a had little impact on the kitchen. I requested with another member of staff to see the manager but apparently there was not one working that day, however I could see the garden centre manager. I declined the offer and took my leave of the premises. I really don't understand why a cafe is unable to produce hot food for the whole time that they are open. My recommendation would be to avoid this place and visit "Hot Numbers" for quality across the road or "Teapot Cafe" for value who both manage to serve hot food between 11.30 and 12.00 midday!

They are being taken over by Dobbys, I believe. So as you would expect their stock selection at the moment is not that great. The cafe still works well nice pastries although recently even that selection has reduced considerably. There is plenty of parking here and a car wash not cheap but good.

Went here with a friend , at about 2.30 for coffee & cake , hadn’t seen this friend for a long time . As we started to eat our cake the waitress decided to section off the area sweeping the floor and turning the chairs upside down to hit them on the underside to get rid of crumbs , gradually they had most of the cafe sectioned off , it looked like they were trying to close and get rid of us , so much for a nice chat coffee & cake with a friend . Will never go back really made to feel in the way .

From Easter holidays when I last visited with my family (where tables were dirty, service was slow and staff were rude and uncaring,) to last week where there has been a large improvement in service, and cleanliness. Food is tastier and available. New manager is lovely, friendly and staff are efficient.

Weak attempt to make a family friendly place to eat. Clearly Wyevale Royston have no idea how to run a restaurant. Food tastes bland and is uninspiring and most of the time served cold. Service is always slow and depressing. I'm surprised they haven't closed this place down. Clearly the manager has no idea what shes doing and it's obvious she doesn't care. We're told different excuses every time we visit such as broken freezer, broken oven etc etc. The place has half the staff it used to, and those who choose to continue working there look overworked and fed up.

visited again last week - the garden centre itself is very pleasant and good range o goods but the restaurant is dreadful. Service is very slow - you queue for ages and there are not enough staff. The tables are always covered with dirty dishes and when I was there a customer left as he had waited 45 mins for his hot meal and could not wait any longer

I took my grandmother here for breakfast and we were really disappointed. Spent ages looking for menus (found none in the end, went by what was written on the board which was only half the options). The restaurant was clearly understaffed. When I did ask the lady at the till about what was included in the cooked breakfast she said she didn’t know because this was only her second week (obviously not her fault at all, but I did feel for her being the only member of staff serving). When the food did come out it was like a child’s portion. We were still hungry after finishing so I ended up ordering a portion of toast, which added on an extra £1.50 for two slices of bread. As we were leaving i even heard a member of staff telling someone how the whole place had gone downhill....

Stopped here for a pastry and coffee and a browse round yesterday. The catering side can be a bit slow there appears no real energy with the staff especially those preparing the coffees. The service is friendly enough but so slow when there is a long queue it can be quite bad. They don't seem to want to speed things up and you can be in the queue for a long while. There is plenty of seating here you will always get a table. The nursery itself does seem to lack variation of plants the selection is not good. Maybe this is still settling down since Wyevale took this nursery over. They do have a good selection tools and accessories. There is also an outside patio and wood area you can visit for stones wood etc. There is plenty of parking here no problem there. The staff are quite friendly and the outside staff do seem to have a good knowledge of the plants. They are happy to advise you with ideas etc.

When the breakfast did arrive it was not edible , I couldn’t cut the sausage however hard I tried , bacon could of been snapped in half , mushrooms black & swimming in oil. First time of going here never again . I would say it’s the worst meal I’ve ever been served in any establishment. Arrived 1pm today, waited in line for 20 minutes, then told 40 minutes for any hot food including sandwiches. Young family in front left without any food. Our lunch was a piece of cake and a cup of tea. The management of this facility are just invisible. None of the tables were cleared. No point in having a fancy menu, if the food cannot be served promptly. It is a very good garden centre but completely let down by this facility. It is without doubt one of the worst garden centre food facilities in the area.

I stopped here for lunch after a long walk in RSPB Fowlmere. They had some veg options, which was great, although they were confused about vegan - they offered Eggplant parmesan as their vegan option but it of course had parmesan as you would expect. They had a selection of teas and infusions, of which I had a raspberry and strawberry infusion, and I opted for a tomato toastie as the only vegan option. It is a lovely garden centre and it's nice to be able to take the time for a meal there. And everyone was very nice. It's nice and bright where you dine. However, definitely do NOT expect it to be peaceful. It shares the same area as the children's area, which was full of screaming children the day I decided to dine there. So I ate my lunch as I fast as I could so that I could return to the quiet of my car.

Arrived at 8:55 the restaurant opens at 9:00 and the floor and tables were absolutely filthy with food covering both, surely a restaurant in cleaned the night before??? Ordered two small breakfasts and a pot of tea for the grand total of £15.70. Went to pour the tea in my dirty cup but the tea bag had burst so took it back & offered to replace. I returned to the table to finish breakfast and 10 minutes later tea pot was sat on the counter, didn’t realise I had to go back and collect it myself, there were no other customers so thought they may have brought it over. Mentioned that the tables and floor wear filthy, they sent someone out up clear up but it was a massive job and was still very dirty when she’d finished. Won’t be going back!

Having paid over £7 for a breakfast that didn't include Coffee or Toast, and having had to wait over 15 minutes at the table for it to arrive I expected something that was freshly cooked - yet the sausage and bacon had clearly been prepared some time ago and were totally spoilt. They were replaced. A further wait had been to actually place my order at the till, as there was only one girl both taking the orders and sorting the coffees. The people in front of me had well prepared barista style coffee, so I thought my expensive Americano might get the same treatment - but that was also a case of "here's one we prepared earlier".

Another bad experience. Took my young grandson for 'afternoon tea for two'. Arrived to a not overly busy restaurant but struggled to find a clean table. Joined the queue to order food at 1410. 1420 ordered our tea and sat and waited for the treat to arrive. 1440 chased our order to be told they were preparing it. Waited and waited 15.00 chased again as people around us who arrived well after us had been served. Told this time that it was on it's way. 1510 told it was ready but nobody had served it. 1520 asked for refund. Over an hour was unacceptable. Purchased a 'meal deal' at local Co-op. Not quite the treat promised to my grandson. On our previous visit we went for a hot lunch to be told no hot food available. Will give this place a wide berth in future.

Pity the one girl on the order counter taking lots of flak!

We were so thankful, and no customer in the restaurant batted an eyelid because we were accompanied by staff! Much much appreciated.

Friday afternoon visit expected to spend an hour looking around visit must have ended after 15 minutes. Walking through plant area it was obvious that the plants needed watering and pricing level appeared to be too high. Too much floor space, too few staff, too much tatt (including the end of Christmas 2017). This garden centre has lost its way it has diversified too far away from its origin. The result is a 'jack of all trades' approach and 'master of none'. Recommend you find and support your small independent garden centres where plants are watered.

Only went to pick up something from Cotton Traders. They are OK, and I also like The Works for cheap books etc. But the rest of the place is, for me, a waste of time. A lot of the outlets are very pricey. Didn't use the cafe itself. But my real gripe is - been twice, and both times the toilets (close to the cafe) have been filthy. Complained once, to the cafe staff, but there seemed to be no real procedure for alerting the cleaning staff. Health and safety alert!

We popped in here for a 'quick' bite to eat. We placed our order for a toasted sandwich and a portion of chips at 1pm. At 1.25 I queried the wait to be told it was in the toaster. Ten minutes later I asked for my money back. This time the excuses were: Yes there was a delay, that they were very busy, it depended on whether the food came from the cold side or hot side of kitchen. I commented that we should have been told from the start if there was a serious delay, in which case we would not have ordered. I also reminded her that it was her who had told me it 'was in the toaster' ten minutes ago. So how long does it take to toast a sandwich? She went into kitchen and strangely came back with the sandwich. I had to remind her about the chips. Her comment as she brought them to me, 'I gave you extra chips' (Really? What was their normal portion like?) did not make up for a 40 minute wait. Tables were left uncleared with customers having to move trays/dishes to get to tables. The coffee was cold and really not nice. I should have stuck to my 'I want my money back' request'. I am not in the habit of writing really bad reviews because I like to be constructive in any criticisms but I will NEVER go to this garden centre again, for anything!

Hi, My wife and I stopped in at the Wyvale Garden Centre in Huntingdon, Cambs, for lunch on our way home. I failed to recognize that they were competing for the world record for the greatest number of soiled tables in a cafe/restaurant. Room was adequate. Ceiling height was a problem at times, and I'm not a tall person. Shower incorporated with bath, could not stand up straight to use it because of the ceiling height. Was prompted when checking in online if wanted a bath or shower, I requested a shower. Bar staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast next morning was a bit Fawlty Towers! Ordered it and it was very slow coming out to the table. A full blown argument could be heard coming from the kitchen. When it did arrive, some items were hot and some were warm. Toaster had one section not working on it. I was already running late for an appointment, so couldn't send the breakfast back for heating up. Location is beside the railway station which is handy if arriving by train. But there is not much else around it. Parking is limited also for this establishment.

An overpriced restaurant for mediocre food. Two kids burger meals(both burn't).No point complaining as there isn't anyone around except for the overworked guy on the till. Chicken ceasar salad arrived after everyone else had pretty much finished their meal.£14 for a mediocre chicken burger and chips.£12 for a chicken ceasar salad with hardly any content. Very poor, I would suggest eating anywhere else as there were so many issus with this meal.
