Review of Worcester Garden Centre Café, Droitwich Road, Worcester Garden Centres and coffee shops/restaurants are like symbiotic plants wherein both enjoy mutual benefit. (For plants think rosemary, marigolds, lavender, etc.) This is particularly so for the likes of us who generally enjoy the environment provided when seated in a café surrounded by plants/horticulture/organized nature. Typically, this is not your ‘après ski’ kind of place - how could it be when there’s a literal forest of fresh greenness outside the window and the clientele around you are mums with kids, women with elderly relatives/companions and groups of middle-aged women together. There were few men in the café that day.. Inside, it’s a sort of restful place, full of light and surrounded by glass – walls and part roof both– wherein you can see into the sky above you and through into those green depths that surround you. Here you can spend time with the one you love, your family and/or your friends. You’re unlikely to meet that special person who may change your life in this kind of café, but … ever hopeful … you n-e-v-e-r know. It's better, perhaps, to take them with you (i.e. loved ones, family, etc.) and spend time sitting/talking/ruminating/reading/looking at photos on cell phones/etc. over a hot coffee or tea … if you’re a tea-person, which is more likely for those of us/you well-into those mature years – seeking an hour or more of comfortable familiarity with those whom we may have shared those same years. Visit a new place and, if there’s a garden centre/café available locally, it’s inevitable that we’ll eventually try to explore it. Which is how the four of us found ourselves in the WGC Café that morning in July. Outside the weather was cool, cloudy and threatening to rain. Mid-July … what else … it’s summer. The WGC is easy to find – north of the town along the Droitwich Road with plentiful parking to one side of the café, and a short walk from your car into the main glass building. There were four of us, one of whom was walking carefully with the help of a stick. Right outside the exit to the building was space in which to drop everyone off before parking the car. Good planning - it reduced the walking distance. Inside there was this sea of tables/seats many of which were already occupied. Mid-morning and the café, we figured, was around 60% full. It was a Tuesday. The place was alive with voices and the clatter of people eating/talking/calling across to those seated nearby and others handling/minding/watchful eye out for the kids and/or for their elderly companions. People were constantly on the move, coming, leaving and shifting back and forth from their tables to the counter to one side of the café. On both sides of the queue in front of the counter were cakes, breads, tarts, dolce and other snacks to match those coffees/teas. The waitress who appeared at our table was seeking breakfast requests. Ours was a ‘coffee & snack’ kind of visit, however, and she directed us to the counter to order our drinks, snacks and anything else, pay for everything and then wait by the counter for the drinks/snacks to be prepared. This took 12-15 minutes. Carrying a couple of full trays back to the table through seated and moving people was challenging. Complimenti to the professional cameriere for doing this for the entire working day/every day. As a group we had ordered three coffees, one pot of tea and four snack foods – 3x slices of cake and a scone – for which we paid £22.50. That represented around £5.50 each. The coffee/tea had been hot and the snacks fresh/tasty/delight to eat. There’s never a rush to vacate the table, but after about 90 minutes of raking over the issues of the family/world it was time to move on. It had been a pleasant interlude covering the many highlights, etc. in the separate but parallel lives that we had followed since making our respective ways from that original family home. We should have been so fortunate with an accommodating venue in which to share time that morning. For us the café represented an opportunity to talk one-with-the-other given that it was the first time for many years that the four of us had been together (from Scotland, Isle of Wight, Melbourne and, of course, Worcester). Imagine. People mature but also much remains the same – with those mixed memories of the good times and those times, it should be said, that were/are not so good: it’s what’s called ‘living’. For us that morning, the WGC Café had provided a delightful opportunity to reflect upon the years that have passed. The café had been comfortable, light and warm. The snacks/drinks had been welcome and good value. Peter Steele 29Sept24

Sat down with our dog for lunch ordered food and when the women come over with food she said dogs can’t come in here. Was made to sit outside in the rain with our food. There is no sign at the restaurant to say dogs can’t enter. Won’t be back

Nice cup of coffee. Service was good. One of our party had a peice of carrot cake which they found tasty and moist. Had dog with us so used the outside dog friendly tables (none inside). Was a nice Autumn day but will not be visiting for food/drinks in the winter if no dog friendly tables inside.

Service was slow which is main reason for not giving 4*. A moderately busy day but only 2 people preparing drinks/taking orders. When we got the drinks they were good and i thought not to overpriced. As an aside also very slow at checkout for main store.

Party of three for breakfast. Plenty of free tables. Hot drinks handed over immediately when ordering. Food took 30 minutes to arrive, so hot drinks not so hot with the meal. Fried and poached eggs both overdone to solid. Bacon very fatty. Hash browns a little soggy. Probably will not come here again.

I really hate writing a bad review. It is so much easier to write a good one. I am reviewing the café and not the garden centre itself which is fine. I came with my partner to get some basic gardening supplies and on a whim decided to have a bite of breakfast. It was early in the day. There was not much going on but the service at the counter to order food was slow. Very slow to the point of massive irritation. As I stood there I just thought that the place was run by accountants with no thought of customer service. I ordered some eggs Florentine. The dish was to be presented on a muffin with eggs on top with spinach and hollandaise sauce. I disliked the muffin and the sauce which was not produced by anyone with skill. The whole dish was no to my liking. To be fair my partner had the same dish and cleared his plate. My partner may choose to come wait for ages for a coffee but I will not come back soon.

I've never been here before and I'm so annoyed! It was great! Breakfast cob was lovely , coffee was very large! Salted caramel cake was divine! £2.50 for the toddler to go into soft play and let me eat in peace. The ladies in the cafe were lovely and friendly as well. All in all had a lovely time and can't wait to return and try those scones that looked amazing!

The garden centre is nice. Very friendly. But the restaurant is rather over priced. The salad leaves with our meal were past their best to say the least. Nice chips and good size portions. Good choice of loose teas. Didn’t enjoy my cappuccino, not strong enough.

I’ve been here many times over the years and always had nice food and good service but today’s was very poor. I think there’s a staff issue here. The food was cold, service poor but our little one enjoyed the soft play area. We made sure we went early but it was busy and staff couldn’t cope. Such a shame as the garden centre and staff are lovely. The cafe needs a good overhaul, would go again. Yet just have a sandwich to be on the safe side.

The venue has plenty of good parking, disability and family parking spaces. The restaurant was clean, spacious, with well spaced comfortable seating. They took an advanced booking for 15 with space to also accommodate a wheel chair and pram, unlike two other restaurants in Worcester one would not take a booking despite our special requirements and the other said it would throw the kitchen into melt down. Well done Blue Diamond Worcester for being so flexible and helpful, nothing was too much to ask. Waiting staff went over and above to meet our needs. We ordered a wide range of brunch meals; they were all freshly cooked with fresh produce, our meals arrived hot not Luke warm, portions were very generous and the cost was very reasonable. We all left very satisfied, and my husband had a very happy and memorable birthday brunch with the family.

Taken over by Blue Diamond and it was Absolutely dreadful. Waited 50 minutes for a breakfast (2 hashbrowns, a spoonful of beans, a spoonful of mushrooms and a small tomato £6!!!), with no apology when it turned up. The coffee machine was broken so serving instant yet still charging full price. Whole thing was an absolute shambles. Took family there as been before with no problems, was thoroughly embarrassed! The store itself wasn’t any better, hardly anything there and 4 out of 6 toilets out of order. Won’t be returning.

Went last sunday for breakfast. Ordered after a 20 minute wait in the queue, the food finally arrived after over 50 minutes of waiting. When I asked how much longer it would be the staff just said...we've got a new chef ! This is the second time I have been disappointed, the last time it took 40 minutes for 2 scoops of ice-cream ! On that occasion the manageress hardly looked up when I said I wanted my money back as we couldnt wait any longer. Whoever owns this place needs to give the staff customer service training.

Had meals and snacks here many times. Portion size for my meal was perfect, my wife's and friends however on the large side as none could finish. We hate food going to waste so maybe cut down a little on the meals that have really big portions. What we did have however was really nice, cooked just right. Service and staff really good. Go to some garden centre restaurants and the staff can be offish with customers. Never has been at this garden centre. Under new brand/ownership but still one of the best GC restaurants

We were looking forward to this as eaten here before and always good. However we were very disappointed. I’ve worked in the trade and know how afternoon tea should be offered. Actually we asked for doggy bags as we didn’t want to apear rude, by leaving the food, but didn’t enjoy it at all. The sandwiches were on thick bread, not dainty sandwiches as you usuallly find with the crusts taken off, and the cakes poor. The scones are so huge and crumbly they’re quite difficult to eat. Also stale. You just make a mess on the plate. I think the centre has been taken over recently so maybe there’s new kitchen staff, but whatever, afternoon tea for us was the ultimate flop. Oh forgot to mention they use margarine and not butter on the sandwiches too...not nice. Went home and enjoyed a nice jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise as I was hungry. Definitely needs an overhaul or taking off the menu.

What a superb venue for a soft play party!! We hired the soft play with hot food for our daughters 2nd birthday. We had exclusive us of the soft play which was BRILLIANT as all the children were under 5, making it very safe for them to play freely without parents worrying about bigger children. The food was excellent; watermelon, fruit and veggie all displayed beautifully on skewers, along with hot bites in bowls. Colouring placemats and crayons too went down very well!! Julie and the team were wonderful! Very nice team of ladies! Thank you for making the morning so enjoyable and memorable.

This is third time we have taken 'Afternoon Tea' at Wyevale. What has happened? The sandwiches are no longer finger and were stale and the scones are rock hard. When it was a Groupon offer the teapot was filled up at no extra cost - this has now ceased despite paying more (£12.95 instead of £10) I am afraid we will have to take our custom elsewhere.

Breakfast - have been twice for breakfast. The small cooked breakfast is very good and very good value too. Have also tried poached eggs on toast and it was perfect. But then had the gardeners eggs which is a eggs Benedict with a mushroom not a muffin. The eggs were overdone. This was not helped by the server charging the wrong price for this and the toast. Overall good meal and would recommend. We also tried their lunch - homity pie - pretty good, chicken curry very good.

Ive been going to this cafe within the garden centre over a number of years and seen a number of staff changes - the food has always been maybe a little pricey but good quality and tasty - not any more sadly. todays visit for breakfast was a big let down - you can no longer swap items out of the menu if you dont eat them - something to do with the tills and stock check allegedly - so a set breakfast has to come as it is whether you like items on it or not - where as they always used to let you swap things out. The main thing i felt was that the quality of the products they use has diminished - the bacon was a grey looking bland tasting item which looked like it had been sat there for a while - poached eggs - hard and toast burnt with cheap marg on it. my friend had a fuller breakfast and she was equally as unimpressed. we both felt that it was a case of they are using much much cheaper products and the quality has dropped. such a shame as a nice place otherwise! wont be visiting until they change back to how they used to be.

I visited with my mum on the afternoon of 10th January,2017 to use a Groupon voucher for Afternoon Tea. Mum uses a rollator walking aid and is a Blue Badge Holder & we managed to park right outside the restaurant in the disabled bays. There is a ramp access to the side of the restaurant for wheelchair users and patrons with limited mobility that leads directly into the restaurant and the garden centre. No problem for mum negotiating around the restaurant to find a table. We ordered our drinks ( a pot of tea or coffee ) from the food service area and took them to our table being told that the Afternoon Tea goodies would be brought to us. We did not have to wait long at all for them to arrive. We were very impressed with the selection and amount of goodies that arrived on a three tier cake stand. The sandwiches were freshly made - ham & tomato on brown bread and cheese & cucumber on white bread. There were two huge fruit scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, plus two chocolate Viennese cakes and two lemon meringue type cakes. We both enjoyed it very much and there was plenty to eat - exactly what was promoted on the Groupon voucher! The service was excellent from everyone and I must mention the young lady who was ' in training' who was very helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Included in the voucher was limitless tea or coffee so we enjoyed a second pot of tea each. Even though the Afternoon Tea was on a special offer through Groupon, there was no skimping on what was served and to be honest it would have been well worth it if paying the full price. We have been for several afternoon teas and this was one of the best for the price range. Afterwards we had a look around the garden centre and ALL the staff we came across were so helpful, friendly and courteous! Thank you for making our afternoon out a really lovely experience!

Horrendous - put two orders in for next day delivery £20 in delivery fees. One order wasn’t processed at all the other wasn’t delivered! Huge waste of time and money 3-5 days for a refund even though they didn’t supply a single thing promised. The first one it took 5 attempts to contact customer service to get a response and the second quicker to get through but still highly inconvenient sitting on online chat.
