We stopped in for a quick lunch. The lady behind the bar was friendly and welcoming and the bar is well stocked with draught beer and a good range of wine. there is seating both inside and outside There is an extensive menu but we only wanted a light lunch. What we selected was fine but fairly bland - the salad only had a lightly drizzle of dressing. It was a pleasant visit and we would stop here again and try some other dishes.

Had Sunday lunch this week with family, good varied menu, roast or other things like fish and chips which a few of our party decided to have. The Wye Valley Restaurant is nestled slightly away from the Tourist centre of Tintern, but this only adds to its appeal and it worth the short walk - it is the perfect stop for a ‘proper pub lunch’, and keeps the picturesque beauty of the surrounding area. The staff were friendly, and there was a decent selection of food, accommodating for dietary needs and it was exemplary that they offered gluten free options, such as gluten free batter for fish. There was nothing special or extraordinary on the menu, but this did not matter. The portions were very good value for money, and I basically had 2 full blocks of cheese on my ploughman’s lunch. It was delicious - nothing special, but filling. On the whole, a much less chaotic restaurant than what those closer to the abbey seemed, friendly staff and good quality pub food. It won’t blow your mind, but was great at what it does, offering good value for money.

We ate here on our first night in Tintern, arriving hot and exhausted after a 7 hour drive. The staff were welcoming and the food was beautifully cooked. Some unusual and interesting items on the menu (for example I had gammon served with peach and brie) but it was delicious. Also a good selection of gin, including one from a local distiller. Well worth the visit!

I had an excellent steak and mushroom pie. The flavour was good and there was plenty of meat. My wife had a Mediterranean vegetable Wellington, which was very poor. The vegetables were mainly carrots and potatoes with some olives and a smattering of tiny pieces of possibly frozen pepper. It came with an unexciting salad and good chips. When we were asked about the meal, my wife commented on the contents of the Wellington, and the (very pleasant) waitress went to have a word with the chef, and came back to report that she would take it up with the suppliers the next day. However no adjustment was made to the bill. When we looked at the bill, my meal (delicious and full of expensive meat) was only 55p more than the potato olive and carrot puff.

My wife and I had seen this place a few times on our trips to and from our accommodation, every time vowing to eat here. In the end, I wish we’d gone elsewhere. One thing stood out from the meal we had and that was the starters. Mine; a butterfly prawn with chilli sauce. Hers; ham hock tagine with oat biscuits. All else was lacklustre. The venison burger was nice, but the triple cooked chips tasted more like crisps. My wife’s trout contained multiple bones and was particularly tasteless. We hoped dessert would heighten the senses and our impressions. More bland from the caramel tart, left it half finished. We used the chocolate brownie more as a method of relief from the former. If anything more dissatisfying happened this would have been my first 2 star review.

And we had a lovely meal!Staff were very obliging, with chef even adapting a dish to suit my dislikes! So I had lamb chops with a fresh mint jus, and very tasty they were too. They came with fresh vegetables, which shouldn't be hard to find at this time of year but too often is. There was a good choice of wines by the glass too. This was good, honest cooking, well executed without short cuts, and very much appreciated.

We were a party of four pensioners (two couples) staying at this Hotel from 29-31st October. The trip was hastily arranged so little research was done beforehand on the Hotel but it proved a winner. If you are tired of modern, impersonal hotels this is for you. The bedrooms are very pretty, have every facility and are spotlessly clean. The hosts - Sue and Barry - treat you as valued guests and will adapt to meet your needs if possible. The food was lovely but if one wanted something different from that shown on the menu, Sue will try and provide an alternative. The dining room, where we had a freshly cooked breakfast is spacious and the small lounge area attached is so cosy. We ate in the bar in the evenings - cosy with fires at both ends of the room - and the friendly ambience was great. When we go back to this area in the future we most certainly would not look at any other hotel.

It wasn't bad, that's just a personal preference. My dad had a crispy chicken dinner. The chicken was breaded & fried. He doesn't usually eat fried food, but he said it was good

When we arrived at 6.45pm there was nobody else in the dining room until 7.30pm when another party of Four arrived. When we left the restaurant at 9.15pm there were still no more diners and the bar only had half a dozen in it so not sure if they were really as busy as they said!. Also noted most of the tables in the dining room had already been set for breakfast before we arrived! The food was about average, steaks had a seam of gristle running through them so not of the best quality although most of the party had no specific complaints. Service was good and the waitress very attentive (this is why I haven't scored lower than average). The decor is very dated and drab. All in all average and uninspiring.

We stayed just one night and were greeted with a very friendly reception, in addition this has been the only hotel where the owner insisted that our case was carried up the stairs to our room PLUS the case was taken down to our car on departure. This has never happened before. The room was clean and the bed comfortable although we were surprised by a blanket rather than a duvet. The evening meal was very good my steak cooked to perfection and the breakfast next morning was freshly cooked and very good.

My husband and I stayed in Tintern for the May bank holiday weekend. Much to our dismay we could not get booked into the Wye Valley to stay but that is to be expected as we have stayed before and it is by far one of the best places to stay in Tintern. Whilst we were staying we did have our dinners and drinks in the Wye Valley though and as always everything was fantastic. Barry and Sue, the owners, make everybody welcome, serve up delicious food and the hotel has an overall welcoming and homely atmosphere. A must visit if you are staying or passing through Tintern!

I have visited this hotel several times but never stayed the night, so I comment only on the food, drink and service. The best thing about this place is its location. It's a nice spot to sit outside in the sunshine, although other Tintern pubs have better views. The food is decent but overpriced and a bit old-fashioned. I suspect it would be popular mainly with retired people. There are a couple of decent ales on draught, but I don't detect a huge effort being made there. A few miles up the valley there are pubs serving some of the best beer and cider in Britain. I've found the service here very variable. In short, the women have been charming and friendly and courteous, but there's a man here who I've found quite rude when I've ordered at the bar. On one occasion he was literally shaking with anger because I wanted to pay with a card instead of cash. It's 2014, for goodness' sake, and this is a town without a cash machine.

Great location, but let down by the mothers day lunch. All tasted of water, gravy was much to runny, beef was half fat and had blood pouring out of it,very bland and wouldnt come here again! Defiently not going to be recommending it to any body else.

Excellent food & good variety on menu. Just a shame we can never manage more than one course as the portions are substantial. Good value, cosy bar to eat in in winter and very civilised owners. Always very relaxing.

We popped in there just to have a drink, we found there prices very reasonable so we stopped there for a few hours. The atmosphere was lovely and intimate so you could sit in a booth and have a conversation and a few drinks and then we decided to order food which was lovely with a good selection off options. They also had an extensive range of single malts.

Ate here twice last week. Food was pretty good and both the landlady and landlord were very friendly with good advice on what to do/where to go locally. I'd certainly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

We stumbled upon this gem of a pub/restaurant on our way home from a visit to wales and were very pleased we did!The menu is mouthwateringly extensive making choosing very difficult. After ordering and getting a drink from the bar we sat at a table out the front. The pub is on the main road but there is a reasonably deep frontage with flower tubs etc making a nice seated area and its quite a sun trap! The food arrived in good time and really was delicious, lovely flavour combinations in dishes that were far from normal pub fare. Although we live a long way from this pub, if we ever are in the area again we would definitely stop here again.

I rated the room by mistake we only ate here. The exterior was beautifully decorated with flower boxes and they had convenient parking despite the narrow roadway by the river. Anyway, sat in bar to eat - very cozy. Couldn't have asked for a friendlier bartender or waitstaff. We conversed a lot and got good travel tips. When we saw the very traditional Roast, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potato we all decided THIS was the place to finally order it. And we were not disappointed. Delicious dinner plate. Reminded me if my childhood Sunday dinners with our Brit neighbors. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with a stop here. Locals seemed to hang out there.
