Wretham Plaice in Newcastle upon Tyne

This is the best chippy I've been to in Newcastle! The staff were friendly and cheerful, the prices astounded me, only £6.80 for some fish and chips! (Considering todays economic crisis that's impressive lol). The fish was hot, flakey, and fresh, and the chips were perfect. Will absolutely be coming back again! 💖

Never order to pick up always cold when you collect

I found pieces of meat on my vegetarian pizza.

Always waiting for chips (cook more) always waiting for anything really. They say because it's cooked fresh to order but in reality it's put in the microwave or thrown in the deep fat fryer from frozen. So wouldn't call it exactly fresh. Hygiene standards leave alot to be desired too. Staff regularly coughing and sneezing and wiping their faces on their sleeves or with their hands before proceeding to handle food without washing them. Can't recommend at all. Food wasnt great either. Chips undercooked as must have felt rushed.

This used to serve lovely fish and chips a few years ago ..but the last few times l have been disappointed.

Great little chippy. Great staff, never been able to complain about the food as its always nice with great portions. The place is always clean as well which can't be said for a lot of takeaways these days.

Food is good most of the time, staff nice Delivery times really need too be addressed at £2.50 you expect delivery times less than an hour ? this place is regularly well over an hour, Hire another driver, food quality whilst good is definitely suffering due too time in the car, not too mention this review suffered because Im waiting ages for my food.

Having ate Fish and Chips in a lot of different North East Restaurants & take-aways, I can hand on heart say this was the best Fish & Chips Meal we’ve ever had. Food was hot, tasty and cooked to perfection. Not only that but it was Good Friday, wait times were minimal & great value for money!

Staff were lovely, however they didn’t have what we originally wanted on both occasions we visited and it took a long while for the food to come.

I absolutely love the Kebabs here. Chicken marinated nicely and Kebab is not greasy. Price is so reasonable. Highly recommended

Went here as our usual chippy was closed. The shop and staff were nice. The food was as you would expect most chippys to be, average. Only down side was the portion sizes were very small for the money charged. Wouldn,t like to see what the kids portions are like!

Best place for fish, lightly battered is best

I ordered a chicken kebab for 6.5 £ and it tasted better than it looked. I got a really big portion for this price. The staff was nice but pretty slow. Overall pretty good experience.

The staff were very friendly to me when they asked me what I wanted to order and I said I would like to order a Cheese patty in a bread bun, that is what I call excellent customer service.

Where do I start...I pre ordered our meal for collection at 12:15pm. Being good Friday I was expecting to wait but my order was ready. When I arrived for collection the shop was professionally set up, the staff were equipped with all of the required ppe equipment. The outside of the shop was marked with 2 meter spots to prevent spread of covid-19. I had a 20 minute drive back home & the food was still very hot & tasted amazing. This is one of the best fish & chips I’ve had in a long time, even my children loved it. I would highly recommend Wretham plaice to anyone. Thank you for a fantastic, professional & reliable service. Good food, quick service and friendly staff

I usually love the food from here but I don't know what went wrong this evening it was only time I didn't enjoy it it was cold, the burger bun wasn't buttered it waste of £10.70. It won't stop me order from there even though I binned the lot.

Friendly, approachable staff have been a constant and the quality of chips has always been high. Tonight chips were perfect. Golden, fluffy and not greasy! Definitely recommended. The shop can get busy but staff are always eager to take an order and the wait is never longer than necessary. The cod is reliably good and batter crisp! Specials are always good value.

Great service, friendly staff, the fish was excellent, batter cooked properly, fish had a lovely fresh taste, and you can get different portion sizes of chips which is handy.

He received my order 10 minutes early. The food was lovely it is only the second time I've ordered and it has been lovely both times. Just the fish this time looked more like a fish bite this time bit it filled me.The man rang me up not long before he delivered my food. He rang to tell me there was no Fanta. He was very polite on the phone and in person when he delivered my order. He also said he could take my Fanta off my bill I said no the Dr Pepper is fine. He brung me a 2 litre as well.

Everytime I come here I either get kebab or pizza and if I’m feeling extra crazy I get a kebab pizza, I cannot fault any of the food as I’ve had a wide variety from the menu, 5 star would give ten if possible, and staff are the best always happy and up for a chat while they work

The food in this place is really bad, the pizza and chips were not nice and were not up to standard at all and I would not recommend going in there ever again.

This serves the best fish and chips we have ever had. Since our first visit (approx 3 yrs ago) we have been there for our fish and chips at least once a week. Staff are always very attentive and there is always a friendly greeting.

Eat here when ever I want a takeaway and it's always Lovely fresh food cooked perfectly and always served with a smile. Would recommend you try this plaice haha pardon the pun !!!!

Had an excellent fish and chip supper here after work, very clean, friendly staff, I would recommend to anyone. Parking was easy and the selection was very good.

Have been coming here for years and was a bit worried when I heard it had been taken over by new people. I had no need to panic the fish is still the best I've ever had (that isn't at the coast) always big portions and great prices too. £3.20 for small fish and chips (but I don't know what they class as small as I always end up sharing with the cat) amazing food and lovely friendly staff
