We popped by without a booking and were able to take a couple of seats at the counter. The staff were friendly and attentive. As a gluten free diner I often get a bit nervous about asking about available options. The team here were fantastic and did everything they could to accommodate. Will definitely return

A bit busy for a relaxing lunch really (due to so many shoppers going past) but the food was fantastic. We weren't told when we booked that the shared seafood platter should be ordered in advance, so that was disappointing.

Love the food and how hygienic and great quality the food is. Loved the staff as well. Not the biggest fan of the table seating arrangements and the high chairs I feel that it disrupts the dining atmosphere. But the quality of fish is great. I’ve attached photos from two different days.

A lovely first visit trying out their Newcastle Restaurant Week menu. Impressed, delicious food, great service. Enjoyed the best chocolate mousse I’ve ever had!

Front of house friendly but respectful and helpfully explained in detail the dishes making it easier to choose. The fruit de mers which came with excellent oysters and perfectly cooked scallops. I'm not sure I would add the lobster next time; it's a little disappointing.

Brilliant food brilliant atmosphere and they've been doing this in Berlin for many years. Book in advance tho after festivities should be able to get a place easier than normal...Good luck and Bon Appetite x

50+ minute wait for food. Everyone else served before us, who entered after. Staff couldn’t identify which dishes were allergy free, additionally fsiling to raise the question upon arrival. One person on main courses in kitchen, expect a slow service. No resolution offered by restaurant after complaining. Very disappointed in my experience. Won’t be going back. Wouldn’t waste your time, overrated.

Excellent service nice place think it's a casual place it's nice lively clean and tidy liked the bar seats with the kitchen in the center it's inside Fenwick food hall there is also a steak house it is pricy but it's kind of worth it they serve a large selection off alcohol and all sorts off sea food you can also buy to take home and make it your self

Called, on spec,in order to secure a table. Very special occasion, as we were celebrating a significant wedding anniversary and more in hope than expectation we hoped to grab a table - possibly a cancellation. The gentleman in charge (Liam) asked us to come back about 2:30 as he anticipated that a table would become free about then,which it did. We were served by Lily who was the epitome of niceness and provided first class service from the outset. The food was delicious and very, very fresh& well prepared. My wife says her mussels were the best ever. I had Fish cakes which were also beautifully presented and very tasty. Many thanks to Liam, who is a great asset to the Saltwater Co and to the team for making our anniversary so very special. Cannot wait for a return visit to this very fine establishment.

Had a fantastic lunch with some truly amazing dishes. The Fish market stew name doesn't do this dish justice with a super selection of fish in a fabulous sauce. Staff where very friendly and attentive. Will be back.

We had amazing Oyster- my 1st ever - I will be back for more. Shetland Scallops- devine followed by stunning Cod with Samphire & the fishcakes with parley butter sauce. Washed down with a sparking alcohol free Rose wine. The food was exceptional amd cooked by Cori - a very talented young man who will go far in the hospitality world. We received a warm welcome from the lovely Francessca the Manager who was so engaging and knowledgeable. We will return to this gem ! Thanks so much for an amazing lunch !

Absolutely superb food, beautifully prepared by wonderful people in a great place! Young chef Cory was excellent, in fact everyone we spoke to was top class; polite, informed and customer friendly.

Exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The oysters were incredibly fresh, and we were fortunate enough to visit during happy hours, making it even more enjoyable. Service was attentive and efficient. Will definitely return.

On the pricey side, but worth it for a lunchtime treat.. great fish, obvs, but the highlight was a grilled peach and raspberry dessert which was simply stunning.

Saltwater Fish Company’s dining area is arranged around two counters with bar stools which are immediately adjacent to a fishmonger’s chilled cabinet and an open kitchen. It is possible to sit at one of the counters and watch your meal being cooked. As I’m not a bar stool fan, I’m quite relieved that it is possible to sit at “proper” dining tables and chairs in “sister” restaurant Porterhouse Butcher and Grill which is situated immediately next to Saltwater within the Food Hall of Fenwick department store. You can even mix and match. Choose one course from Saltwater then the next course from Porterhouse, for example. Over my many visits to this restaurant I’ve been really impressed with the quality and freshness of the produce and the skilled treatment of the seafood. I’ve also appreciated the friendly service with staff willing to advise on dishes and accompanying wines. There is an All Day Menu which changes with the seasons and offers a range of dishes from snacks to main courses and desserts. In addition, a blackboard displays the day’s specials.  Oysters are currently (August 2023) around £4 each but there are often offers available. The wine menu is well chosen and some outstanding “guest” wines make an appearance from time to time. The benefits of being situated inside a department store are that there are plentiful toilet and washroom facilities and baby changing and feeding rooms. The restaurant is on the ground floor and there are no steps to negotiate and escalators and lifts are available to access the store's facilities. The downside is that the restaurant’s hours are limited to the store’s opening hours so a late dinner or supper can’t be eaten here. (Check the website for opening hours as there are seasonal changes.) I’ve eaten meals cooked by some of Britain’s most renowned seafood specialist chefs and this kitchen, run by Executive Chef Chris Eagle, serves some of the finest fish dishes I’ve tasted.

Friendly excellent service. My mum and I visited yesterday to treat ourselves to some oysters. My mum is awaiting an operation and the manager was very attentive, ensuring where she was sitting was suitable for her needs. Lovely experience, will definitely be returning soon.

The food was outstanding, one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. One of the dishes was taking longer than it should so the chef gave us some starters on the house which was lovely - they also tasted delicious. The biggest let down was the service, the staff were very distracted, there seemed to be some VIPs in who were eating things that were not on the menu. People were bringing flowers in for the staff and they basically just stood there talking for ages and we had to try to get their attention to order drinks. We sat for 15 mins before being asked if we wanted a drink, fine but I think it would have been longer if we hadn’t caught their attention as they passed. Dishes were left on the bar for ages after other diners had left, the people sitting behind us were basically ignored too - one man said excuse me to one of the staff and she didn’t hear him because she was talking to these VIP guests, he then had to say “hello!!” To get her attention. Overall the food was amazing and the chef was lovely, however the service and us being ignored in favour of the VIPs really let it down.

6 oysters followed by grilled sardines; excellent, well presented, cooked to a tee, service good, ambiance great, prices a bit punchy.

Never been disappointed. Always well looked after and every meal has been beautiful. We love sitting at the bar watching the food be prepared. Wine selection is good too!

Fantastic seafood bar. Definitely worth a visit. Although they didn't have few options that we wanted to try, but we were still served with great options.

Clearly the best Seafood Restaurant in Newcastle. Met by Donna at front of house, served by Megan and Jess, all of whom were well skilled and had excellent knowledge of the food and drinks on offer. You could watch the chefs in action, this certainly added to the experience. We will be back.

Amazing food and brilliant service. Gluten & Lactose options available from the Chef. Nice chilled atmosphere. Situated within Fenwick Foodhall. Last available table to is 6.15 and you need to leave by 8pm, as the store was closed. Would definitely go back

Delicious food and great service. Fair prices as well for the quality. Lobster was great, but especially good were the razor clams and big prawns. Good selection of oysters as well.

The seafood here is exquisite, beautifully cooked, and absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend the razor clams, lobster and giant prawns. It was also lovely sitting at the bar to see the expert preparation and cooking. Would absolutely come back, and would (and already have) highly recommend.

Quirky little place, situated in Fenwicks, plenty of choice, some fabulous looking dishes. We had oysters & prawns, which were outstanding.

A lot of middle-class toffs looking at you like dirt as they scoff oysters. Wonderful service, awful atmosphere. A clientele reminiscent of The Purge movies...

Third time we have been here. The food is excellent and being able to sit and watch the food preparation adds to the experience. The staff are always friendly and interested.

The best place for lunch in Newcastle in my humble opinion.

Absolutely fantastic food and experience. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s in a department store - the environment is actually very nice. The lobster with butter sauce was just divine - me and my partner shared the lobster and they very thoughtfully divided it on to two separate plates without us asking.

Very overpriced, I always go th the grainger market to by fresh fish and excellent quality. Why by a fish for a tenner when you can buy for a hell of lot less, just greedflation.

We had the sharing platter with lobster and a load of other shellfish - wonderfully prepared and cooked. We were a little nervous as it was our first visit. It will certainly not be our only time…in fact I can’t wait to go again!

Went for food pre concert can’t say I was disappointed it is pretty pricy but you expect that as it’s in Fenwicks we’ve been here a number of times and it has never ever faulted!!! staff highly attentive and the food is just amazing great choice of seafood and also perfectly presented and great atmosphere wish the squid was on this time but aside from that absolutely beautiful!!!

Favourite restaurant. Excellent food and staff.

Went for Happy hour (Oysters £1.50 each) which is good value for money. Other dishes (we had mussels and Fries and Jumbo Prawns in chilli and garlic) were at best average, eaten better at home and other eateries at a fraction of the cost. Drinks hugely over-priced. Will return for Oysters but will go on somewhere else for mains.

The food was incredible. You get to see all the food freshly prepared and tasted amazing. Staff are very friendly and attentive!

Eaten here many times as well as other restaurants in the chain. Celebrated my partners birthday at 21 3 weeks earlier and was excellent, so suggested this place for lunch. One hour after leaving my partner was violently sick which lasted 24 hours. I sent an email to their contact page to point out it may just be unlucky produce, making it clear I did not want any compensation, just pointed out a possible health and safety issue. I am still yet to receive a reply to my email! Maybe too busy making money to care about customer concerns.

If you like seafood, look no further.

First class dining in Fenwick's department store. I was a lone diner, and was lucky to get a table . The tuna tartare was absolutely divine. It's not cheap, but the quality of my food was outstanding. Huge choice of daily specials available, well worth a visit

Lovely experience you can see all the prep of food in front of you scallops we're very tasty disappointed with the freezer drawer to see cheap frozen skinny chips for the price would of expected prepared chips with proper potatoes no processed ones well definitely go back seats are slightly too close together for me you can hear all conversations even when you try not too

Though some people may say it's expensive. You pay for what you get, which is great products and very attentive staff. Cannot fault it.

Really, really good. The highlight was the tuna tartare (pictured), the combination of onion, avocado and the tuna was just beautiful, and the caviar on top was a nice touch. All the seafood was so fresh and it was good to see the fishmonger pulling them out of the shopfront to prepare my meal. If i had to make a criticism it would be that the seating area is very small, leading to the service feeling very busy, but honestly that's splitting hairs. The place is great.

Love the buzzy atmosphere at lunchtime. Daily specials tempt one from the usual delights. I chose "Hake a la Plancha" which made me feel I was in Spain again! Tender fish on a bed of tasty beans. (However the accompanying clams were so big impossible to chew.) Irresistible pear and choc tart for dessert.

Took a gamble on this one. Nice to say it paid off. Was looking for a seafood restaurant and the Saltwater Fish Company popped up. Fantastic food highest quantity seafood and prime meat cuts. Turns out they also have a flame grill. Chefs top notch. I shall be making this a defo date night venue with Mrs F .get booked in you won't be disappointed.The Porthouse surf and turf rocks. Good to be back. Friday afternoon shopping, two of us. We had prebooked our table.Two of us had fresh oysters and crab on toast and a cheese board to share all excellent, The service was great, ambiance was terrific looking out at the bar.We stayed for over an hour. We loved it there, Try you won't be disappointed.

We are Saltwater regulars and were really looking forward to returning. As usual the food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. The specials board is always our first choice - but this time they cooked me a tuna steak (not on either menu) to personal request from the fish counter - Amazing! If you enjoy quality seafood and enjoy eating in relaxed and unpretentious surroundings then there is no better restaurant in the region.

I ate here on Saturday 22 May with my wife and 2 kids , 8 and 4 years old. We had the shellfish platter, lobster and all ! Kids had fish gujons and fries, asked for seconds , which is a first. Our fist meal out since lockdown was lifted, and it was absolutely amazing, the service , the food , a great experience. been here before and it is always excellent.

Absolutely beautiful! Fresh seafood, lovely wine and amazing customer service. We live in Scotland and genuinely felt like we were being served at home with the quality of the ‘Loch Fyne’ oysters and hand dived scallops. Really impressed. Definitely worth a try whilst in Newcastle.

Hemos cenado aquí en muchas ocasiones y aunque el menú puede ser caro, siempre sentimos que la calidad de la comida justificaba el precio.Así que pensamos en probar el acuerdo del 50% para apoyar a nuestros negocios locales.Qué patada en los dientes. Los enormes aumentos de precios significan que el 50% es casi significativo (32,50 para el solomillo y patatas fritas). La parrillada mixta de mariscos era como siempre muy buena.El cargo por servicio ahora está consolidado en el precio de los alimentos, por lo que es obligatorio. No me gusta esto, ya que el personal no necesita estar tan atento y se nota. Se han dado cuenta de que la propina está ahora en la bolsa.En general, la calidad de la comida es excelente, pero los precios de las bebidas y los alimentos parecen haber subido para alcanzar a los comensales de agosto. (Y no especial de 3 platos)

Visitamos un domingo para almorzar y una gran experiencia de principio a fin. Las precauciones contra CoVid 19 son sensatas sin afectar demasiado la calidad y la atmósfera.Me encanta el hecho de que el pescado se saca del mostrador donde se exhibe para venderlo y luego se prepara y cocina el plato mientras miras. Comí rape que estaba perfectamente preparado y una porción deliciosa, gruesa y con mucha carne servida con salsa y cebollas asadas y lados de papas fritas flacas y samphire. Mi marido tenía muchas opciones y tenía el plato de mariscos de vieiras, salmón, gambas, atún y solla? en mantequilla de ajo. Los platos vacíos fueron testimonio de la calidad y ahora que hemos descubierto esta joya, seguro que volveremos.

Fabulous seafood - oysters, ceviche, stews, and more. Fenwick's is one of the best reasons to visit Newcastle, and the SFC is one of the best sub-reasons. So leisurely, so deliciously. Shout-out to Flynn, fabulous ceviche-maker extraordinare, though everyone is wonderful.

Really enjoyed my visit the food was great and everything was in place for COVID. It's especially important at times like these to support local business. I'll be booking again be sure to do the same.

First time visiting to celebrate a special occasion and we were shown to our seats straight away. Despite how lovely the main menu looked, we decided to order food from the fixed price menu since it was our first time visiting and didn't know what to expect. The ladies looking after us were very polite and courteous. Food presentation and taste was outstanding! We sure felt fancy being in there!The only thing that spoiled our meal was the fact we were sitting next to one very loud obnoxious man who clearly had too much to drink and swore non-stop throughout our whole visit. I could see from the expressions of other customers that they weren't too impressed either. Seemed to be a regular customer based on how he was being spoken to by staff - it was bizarre that they didn't have a quiet word with him to mind his language as it did spoil our overall experience, hence the 4 star rating. We will be visiting again despite this, just hope we aren't so unlucky next time!
