Always really great and fresh!

Normally spot on but don’t no if we got the last of the fish and chips but it was a bit over cooked and portions not big enough for £11 each!

fish not up to usual standard, it was dry and tasteless,prob.frozen.

I ordered a prime cod. What I got was a prime minnow! Chips where cold as well. Tried calling the restaurant, got no answer.

Delivery was spot on but the food was not as I or my mates expected. 2 of us got a burger meal which was ment to come with peri peri chips and not one ounce of peri peri touched them chips and the chips were not the best, also the steak pie we ordered had over cooked steak inside and the mushy peas was cold. I have ordered from various chip shops as I like to try different ones and so far this is one of the worst I've had.

Made a mistake when placing my order. Rang them up and they got it sorted very easily. Food good standard as always.

Used to frequent this establishment in the early 2000's when I worked in the Shieldfield Center. Decided to revisit on our visit to Newcastle from the US. I was not disappointed. Excellent fish n chips.

Chips cooked in beef dripping so no veggie options at all. My fish and meat eating chips Enjoyed the fish but thinks the chips aren’t great.

Great Fish & Chips. Smash Burger is an excellent meal that'll keep you full for hours.

There was a time it was queues out of the door, then it was sold to some Asians and it went down hill, The current owner has turned it around quality wise, however the fish is so small and thin and I was really disappointed tonight. I do feel sorry for him as I know the prices have gone up on everything and he has to make a profit. I really would pay more for a decent size fish but as it stands I don’t think I would buy another one here even though it is in my street.

Lovely food but a wee bit spoilt by impatient staff, probably ran off their feet coz it's a popular place but I didnt like my service experience. No hello, no eye contact even tho the shop was empty when i walked in, no welcome. Just a "YES" after they had finished their conversation. I dont want a red carpet but some acknowledgement when I walked in woulda been an improvement. Even. "Just a minute" woulda been nice. Food was very nice tho. Reasonable prices. Fresh food cooked spot on. It's just the service that's a bit off.

Excellent. My go-to Chippy every time.

I ordered two cod and chips at half 7, the driver didn’t come till over an hour later and when he did come have my fish and chips to someone else without asking for a name. When I rang them about it they said there’s nothing we can do and didn’t even apologise or offer a refund! When I asked for a refund they said no. I spent 24£ on fish and chips I didn’t get. Scummy and unhelpful!

Awful. Paid £4.50 for dry (certainly not fresh chips) and a tiny pot of curry sauce.

The taste of the fish and chips is still fantastic but they have switched to using smaller boxes and the size of the fish in the prime cod and chips for £10.00 was only a little bit over half the length of the box. The fish was still delicious but the price seem to have risen a lot this year and size reduced. I can understand why they have to do this, but for now because of the price hike, I can only come here very occasionally (unfortunately).

Used to love this place but it has gone right down hill. Chips were clearly reheated and they were burnt. The mince pies were dry and flat. Everything got wasted. Won't ever be ordering from here again. Such shame to be honest.

It's a very busy/popular chippy but you never have to wait long to be served, we generally phone our order in & it's always ready on time

Chips were just warm & I think they'd had a bag of worms in the potatoes, they were disgusting. Batter soggy on fish. Worst I've had in ages. Now cooking some pasta because I'm hungery.

Perfectly cooked fish!! Not only were the fish and chips great but the owner (Mark) went above and beyond in service. We were visiting from the US, had our fish and chips, then left on foot for a pub he recommended. But, we forgot a package at the restaurant. My son ran back to get it, but Mark had already been in his car driving around the neighborhood looking for us to bring it to us! Thanks Mark!

Great customer service and a lovely warm welcome but unfortunately we got the last of the chips, which weren't very warm and were a bit tired! If we'd been just two minutes later we'd have had fresh chips. Qué Cera. Please can chip shops butter their bread rolls! Who wants a big dry bap for a chip butty 😝

Great fish and chips, over 30 mins after estimated delivery time but chalk that up to being good Friday. Good grub!

Long story short - we placed our order on Just Eat tonight and the status was approx 45 mins. I kept checking the status in case it was arriving and it switched to ‘enjoy your food’. I called the shop to ask what was happening and explain what the app was suggesting and was told ‘we’ve switched the machines off because our board is full, it’s good Friday so we aren’t taking just eat orders and the order will not be coming’. We were really hungry by this point so ordered from another chippy. About 10 mins later a delivery arrived from Starbeck, whilst the other order was on its way. About £45 down I called Starbeck to explain and an explanation from me turned into a big argument from the same guy who had told me my order wouldn’t be coming claiming he would never have said such a thing on good Friday and to go back to just eat, ‘simple’. The guy sounded stressed and I appreciate that but the best thing surely would’ve been to own up to his mistake and try to rectify the mess up so that I wasn’t left out of pocket because of his misinformation. The food was pretty good, we had two take aways to compare. Starbeck fish cake was really nice, their tartare wasn’t as good (look at a recipe guy on the phone). I’m leaving this review in case you order from here on a busy day and I don’t want others to be left skint. The worst customer service (apart from the person I initially spoke to) I’ve had in ages. Rude.

First time visiting for lunch and won't be the last. The cod and fish we had was very fresh. The gentleman who worked on his own was efficient. Will visit again thank you 🙂

Thought I'd try the starbeck chippy, it used to be spot on. I didn't need to worry as the chips were good, the curry tastey, and the fish cake an excellent quality all reasonably priced, and they do delivery.

Not bad chippy but not sure if I was overcharged. Had cod bits and chips £7 and can coke..was charged £9.70 !!!!!

Horrible. Anaemic barely cooked greasy fish. Burnt limp chips. Horrible. Will never order from here again.

Chips had obviously been lying there a while, had to reheat my order in the microwave and most of it got thrown out in the end due to how disappointing they were. The batter on the sausage was overcooked and tasteless. Won't be back

Food was delayed and late and turned up luke warm. Paid £7 for chunky fish bites ..got 4 soggy small fish fries and a slice of lemon. Really poor an has gone downhill ..won't be using again (On the naughty list)

Excellent Haddock. Batter is spot on. Delivered faster than expected.

We all enjoyed the fish and chips. A lot less cost wise than our local one and the quality was better. Even got a lemon wedge with the fish. Delivery time was fine on a lousy, wet night around rush hour. Will happily use them again.

Our 'go to' chip shop when in Newcastle. Always great quality food and on time for collection. Fully recommended.

Sausage & chips (just say warm) two bread buns , seven quid, not worth it wont be back, chucked half of chips in bin as just shrivelled up scrap ends.

Fish burgers in the Reel platter were absolutely delicious. As wall the rest of the platter. We enjoyed but couldn't finish all. Tasty curry and mushy peas. Will be back 👍

Definitely the best fish and chips you'll get in Newcastle. Staff are really friendly too! No card machine so please order online via their website or bring cash (free cashpoint round the corner at the nearby Post Office/corner shop)

Called up after estimated time and told it was ready, then waited another half an hour from then. Over and hour and a half in total since ordering. Turned up cold and soggy. Also sent a small fish instead of the jumbo which was ordered. Such a shame as its usually really good here.

I have ordered from Starbeck for years, this though was unrecognisable… new owners? The fish was truly awful, like it had been refried… nothing like usual quality

This place is decent value and food but they send this tragic delivery driver who begs for change. He constantly says "is that all right" and tries to leave. We actually ordered a few times to see if he kept doing it and he did. It can be quite uncomfortable as he asks is that ok three differnet times whilst trying to scrape whatever he can. Maybe give him a raise? If he did this to people of nervous disposition I imagine they let him get away it. Very funny But very rude.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in newcastle, most chippys now are quantity rather than quality. The potions are smaller in starbeck, but what you get tastes much nicer than its competitors. Chips cooked to perfection along with real cod in a crispy batter, perfectly cooked so not greasy. I will definitely be ordering again!

We ordered from here because of a recommendation the chips were nice, gravy was like water and the mattersons sausage was really dry which is a shame as we were really looking forward to it.
