New chef on Friday9th August. Wow, what a difference spot on presentation was very good hot food and very tasty. Best fish and chips the family has had in months now the new chef has arrived. He certainly knows what he’s doing. Please keep it up. We need this local fish and chip bar.

Honestly absolute vile customer service from multiple immature girls, one of them being blonde and the other having ginger hair and glasses. Multiple times i’ve seen them act disrespectfully towards customers for no reason more than being pathetic, and still having jobs there? unbelievable. First hand perspective along side witnessing them act this way laughing, making ignorant comments, making vile faces and being the complete opposite of an image a place like this would want to be presented as. Honestly it’s appalling that other workers have not picked up and this still keeping these 2 girls staffed, completely ignoring the fact that multiple of their staff are immature and should not be working in a place like this. It’s disgusting that you have workers who are treating individuals like this and overall embarrassing!!!! sort your staff out.

Great location for residents of Woolwell area, unfortunately can't say same about food. We have bought meals here before and the chips have never been that good but on Mon they exceeded all expectations. Absolutely dire ! Just a pile of small overcooked/burnt bits and pieces that couldn't be eaten. Won't be going again.

We got served the worst portions of chips imaginable, called in at 5.15 on a Friday. The chips served to us were disgusting and were probably cooked the evening before ,then left in the oil until the next evening, then reheated and served up. The poorest excuse for chips ever, must reflect on the quality of staff working there??

Paid for large cod and got medium at best with soggy batter. Horrible almost cold chips to accompany it. Do not go here. Awful.

Our first visit to this chippy since it’s been revamped. Possibly the nicest tasting chips I’ve had from a chippy, very pleased. The fish was well cooked, so we’ll definitely be using this chippy again.

Lovely little place food was freshly cooked hot and tasty, the staff were very friendly and helpful, will return.

Very impressed with the taste of chips very similar to francines our usual place however, very shocked at the small portion - when you order a large you assume it will be more than enough for 2 people, maybe they need to ditch the fancy cardboard chip boxes and serve more chips to compensate, if they increase the portions they will receive better reviews. This gives the impression they are wanting to make as much money but this is not how a good chippy should be. Such a shame :(

Worst fish and chips I have ever tasted. The service was slow. Its such a shame because before this shambles of a chip shop owner took over the fish and chip were lovely. I know buy frozen chips as they are better than what they service.

Really disappointed, ordered a large chips payed £3.75 for a hand full of chips that didn’t even fill the box and waited 25 minutes. I won’t be going back

Rather underwhelming 1st visit. This is my 3rd visit but 1st it’s been open. Regularly closes way before 9pm (as per advertised opening hours). Ordered large cod and chips as I was hungry but received no more than a regular portion of chips and the fish was certainly not a large. I’d say not even a regular in comparison to other fish bars, but it still cost me £12!! Taste - was ok, but far from the best I’ve had.

Run out of food !!!!How can a fish and chip shop run out of food at 7:45 on a Tuesday. Absolutely pathetic wont bother again , have had fish and chips from them before and they were ok . Not worth bothering to go there anymore !!!

Made the journey here, as earlier in the year, I had some of the best fish and chips I've had the delight of tasting. So was really looking forward to this occasion. However...Rang and ordered ahead, but upon arrival (about 30 minutes later) this proved to be completely pointless. Got there to be told they had run out of cod (what fish and chip shop runs out of cod on a weekday at 7pm anyway??). So much for preordering then. Poor lad working the till seemed overworked but was at least very apologetic and give us generously sized haddock to make up for it (his call). The 'boss' however was ignoring this employee numerous times, as well unsavoury talk and effing and blinding coming from behind the scenes was heard aplenty. Absolute unprofessionalism, poorly run and disrespect toward their young staff. Having worked in hospitality myself, I have no shame in outing rubbish bosses.

We have been ordering Fish and Chips for our tea fairly regularly since lockdown, mostly on a home delivery basis, living in the area, and to be fair have received nothing short of perfection on each occasion. We have also telephoned whilst driving back to Plymouth from days out to order for collection. Home delivery is effected pretty much precisely to requested time slot and has been fresh and piping hot on each occasion. When collecting, payment is made contactless and is pretty much painless every time. Having recently retired from the catering trade, we would be the first to point out any shortfalls in order the business can rectify them, especially with an eye for high standard. The cod we have received is good, meaty, white fish, tasty, hot and to date, always heartily enjoyed. From our point of view, especially with current circumstances, these guys deliver all round, so personally.....well done Management and staff, keep up the good work

He estado pidiendo pescado y patatas fritas en este bar de pescado durante muchos años, desafortunadamente, esta noche fue una completa decepción. Pedí cinco piezas de bacalao junto con otra comida y la factura fue de 45. De las cinco piezas de bacalao, tres estaban secas y dos estaban completamente secas, el bacalao era solo un crujiente seco.Llamé por teléfono para decirle lo decepcionado que estaba y que había sido cliente durante muchos años y luego me dijeron que lo sentía y que podía tomar una foto del pescado y enviarla a la gerencia, quien luego decidiría si se podía hacer un reembolso. Mi respuesta es que ya estaba bastante molesto y no estaba dispuesto a angustiarme más. Dejé muy claro que nunca más volverían a tener mi costumbre.

Es repugnante comida fría sucia, nada más que decir realmente, excepto si caminas por la parte de atrás y ves el estado de la cocina, es un milagro que no tengan ratas

Pedir Fish & Chips X 2 a través de Just Eat cuesta 20. 50. La comida llegó temprano, pero desafortunadamente no fue buena. Las patatas fritas estaban duras y picantes y el pescado no era mucho mejor. Lo que más molesta es cuando llamas para quejarse te dicen. Necesito contactar a la magestión por correo electrónico. . . Todavía estoy esperando una respuesta, he telefoneado a la tienda 3 veces para perseguir esta ACTITUD ABSOLUTAMENTE CONOCIDA HACIA LOS CLIENTES. No volveré nunca más.

Fue un placer disfrutar de pescado y papas fritas de aquí, el tamaño de las porciones no era enorme, pero sabía tan bien que no queríamos más, la única queja era la rotunda mujer soviética que trabaja allí, tal vez le vendría bien ir a un curso de habilidades sociales, pero en general genial lugar para la comida.

Señora (¿dueña?) Muy grosera y brusca por teléfono. La comida está bien, pero fría cuando se entrega. A los propietarios no les gustan las críticas negativas (visto críticas y respuestas anteriores), por lo tanto, esperan algún comentario sarcástico como respuesta (no muy profesional en mi opinión). Si mejoraran su actitud y no aceptaran demasiados pedidos (por lo que se entregarán en 1. 5 horas), lo harían mucho mejor.

Really lovely chips and the curry sauce was awesome, but the young lad that served us the chips must come out of his wages or something, I ordered a regular chips and a large chips the portion size was so small we where still hungry

I like this chippy, but recently the batter has been very bad e.g. thick, soggy and greasy, the opposite of what most people would say is a good batter. Please sort it out!

Cheap prices for great quality and quantity cooked breakfast! Quick service and would definitely recommend.

El mejor pescado y patatas fritas crujientes. Patatas fritas a la perfección crujientes, esponjosas y secas, el pescado y la masa rebozada crujiente y seca, el pescado grande en escamas de bacalao blanco. Al y su equipo le dan la bienvenida, y dedicación al servicio de un joven con una pierna fracturada en el trabajo (¿obtener un automóvil es peligroso?).

Fui el primero en ensalzar la brillantez del bacalao y los chrips desde aquí, pero las últimas tres veces durante los últimos 4 meses han sido absolutamente terribles. Bacalao de bajo peso, recocido, grasiento, en su mayoría rebozado sin pescado dentro en una ocasión. Chips bien. Han reducido el tamaño de las porciones, aumentado el precio y están usando bacalao que no cumple con los pesos anunciados.La última vez que llamé por teléfono a mi pedido y le dije que estaría listo en 30 minutos para la recolección, llegué solo para descubrir que ni siquiera habían comenzado a cocinarlo, ya que decidieron que querían el dinero primero y no lo habían dicho por teléfono. Luego tuve que esperar otra media hora para lo que resultó ser la peor comida que he tenido en mucho tiempo.Solía usar la tienda un poco, pero como las tres visitas más recientes eran terribles, no usaré más e iré a otro lugar. ¡Las últimas dos ocasiones estaba tratando a los invitados y estaba muy avergonzado!Es una pena.

We have had an lovely family dinner for £4.00, 2 nice size portion of chips which Fed 2 adults and 2 children. I know it was a special offer but the customer service we received was second to none, they were obviously rushed off their feet with the amount of customers coming to get there bargain dinner but they all made us welcome and catered to all our needs. Not only that the money raised today is being donated to a worthy cause. Well done Woolwell Fishbar we have been before and will definitely come again.

The quality of the food is second to none. Not greasy, cooked to perfection, always cooked fresh on order.

Visited woolwell fish bar last Saturday to buy fish and chips for birthday family treat. Very disappointed. Batter soggy stuck to top of carton and chips limp and not hot. The chips were bad in places,lots of little end bits not nice long chips. Vast majority ended up in bin liner. Total bill £68 90. Complete waste of money. Wouldn’t have minded had we enjoyed the meal. Spoilt the evening. Registered complaint later that evening. No reply from management. Phoned manager this evening he said we should have brought it all back. Very indifferent customer attitude. Not that easy, didn’t want to waste the evening making a journey back, tried to carry on with birthday celebration. Family and friends will never patronise this business again.

8 pounds for fish & chips at Woolwell Fish Bar! Shocking! Would be £5.50 at Francine's. Ended up getting pie & chips for "only" £6! Didn't have any forks so had to use my fingers! Never again.

Working in the area noticed there were a lot of takeaways in school drive and fancied a chinese. However fancied some chips as well so thought i would try this place for the chips . Paid £3 for the large portion , it was all presented in a nice box but weather i timed it wrong as when i got home i wasnt pleased as it seemed as if i got all the scragg ends plus the lad who served me must of put salt and vinegar on them when i asked to just have vinegar i will give them another go with a bigger order next time as maybe might of been a one off maybe they need to pay as much attention to small orders as well a bigger one

Although i have been to this establishment several times and have found it abit on the expensive side i have however always enjoyed there food. Not on this occasion. I ordered 3 chips, battered sausage, 2 veggie fritters and 2 curry sauce. The portion size of the chips was small even for a kids size meal. The cardboard box they were served in was less than a quarter full. The veggie fritters were inedible. But what really annoyed us was the fact the sausage was wrapped up with the veggie fritters. Who wraps a meat product in with vegetarian food? So after spending nearly £15 on a meal half of it had to go in the bin. I most certainly wont be visiting here again. I could of gotten a much better quality meal at my local chippy for almost half the price and of decent size portions.

Decided to go here when I saw they were going for best chip shop, well after the meal we had I can't honestly believe they think they have any chance what so ever, I went for the giant burger they do and chips my girlfriend chicken burger and chips, well it took over half an hour to cook and the wait and money really was not worth it, the chips were half chips half bad bits, the burger named the expendable was made of over cooked dry burgers they did not put any ketchup in it as asked which made it very dry, the bacon was dry, the sausage was ok as were the onion rings, but one thing you don't do if asked is forget the ketchup, this burger was the worse 10 pounds I've spent along with the chips as most of it went in the bin, now my girlfriend meal the chicken burger was also cremated and the battered chips cold by the time we got home, so be warned don't waste your hard earned, also the only staff that seemed to be working were two teenage lads of around 16 to 18, I suggest proper training as over half hour wait to get over cooked food was a joke as they were not busy as in that time only one other person came in the shop, I will never return

Went to this chip shop on Thursday last week at 1720 ordered a haddock and large chips ,worst haddock I've have ever had ,the batter was so greasy .The batter was the worst I have ever seen and tasted ,could not eat it ,had to scrape it off ,just had to eat the fish the chips were just warm.why have it gone down hill used to be a great place to buy fish and chips

Called to order a few things and were told that they do not take orders over the phone (it’s a takeaway, why wouldn’t you!) and were told to order online. After trawling through the different options on the menu we were able to order successfully.

The food here is amazing, who knew battered chips could taste so good. Food is all cooked to order and it was not a long wait but I can see this being a busy place. Portions are a very good size and the burgers are cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back for more very soon. Well worth a vist

Ni siquiera me gusta el pescado y patatas fritas, pero mi amigo pedimos una porción de patatas fritas la otra noche y tuve una pareja con mi china y básicamente me comí todo! Así que bueno, perfectamente cocinada, increíble relación calidad-precio y servido bien y rápido incluso en un sábado por la noche. Recomiendo encarecidamente, me fishbar Woolwell se ha convertido en gusto pescado y patatas fritas de nuevo!

Good food. Always have fish n chips or chips so cannot comment on any other food items. Large portions. Large chips usually shared between 3 people at home but I always buy 2 large.....yummy

He puesto un comentario aquí el año pasado porque estaba tan decepcionado que este lugar tenía ido cuesta abajo con pescado correctamente no pero otra oportunidad hoy y era muy buena, el servicio amable y el pescado bien cocinado. Quizás las dos odiosos chicos jóvenes...

Clean tidy simple little shop amongst several other takeaways beside ample parking and not too fat from Tesco Roborough. OK if you are famished or live close by but probably not worth a detour. Average prices.

All the food is cooked while you wait and is always fresh.Good menu variety. We find the fish is tasty and the batter dry and crisp

Just bought my brother and I tea, the lad serving was lovely and very polite, however the one making the food was disgusting and foul mouthed. Someone needs to remind him that he is part of a business and should refrain from using VERY inappropriate language when there are customers, some of which were youngsters, and should maybe not discuss how many girls he intends to 'look at' on his night out. It used to be a nice little chippy, but now the customer service is appalling, staff are ruining it, and it's highly unprofessional having your friends stood in the way of customers trying to order, chatting. You want to lose money? Then carry on. Wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone anymore.

The place was dirty - 2 nice young lads who were friendly, clean and polite. Waited as advised by a notice because food is cooked fresh. Sausage was ok but the fish was overcooked and the batter was so soggy it was inedible. The chips were very greasy and the oil had a nasty flavour. The chips were just about edible. It was not cheap and if i had not driven 7 miles before i ate them, would have taken them back. Not a place i would recommend.

We have previously bought fish and chips and have been very pleased with the quality and have recommended to friends but tonight when I lifted the box from the bag grease poured out (no it was not vinegar) the chips looked as if they had been cooked a couple of times and were dark and greasy not the usual golden colour The batter on the fish was greasy and soggy Meal chucked in the bin it was that bad Has this place changed hands or was it just a bad day. I definitely wont be going back there again

Been in the shop quite a few times this month and it was excellent! Very up to standard fish and chips, all fresh to order with also a wide range and variety of other items and food! The service has always been great for me and the staff are very friendly and welcoming! Very good chippy in my opinion

Have used this chippie twice in the last fortnight, both times it didn't appear to be too busy but there where mountains of chips cooked and sat keeping warm, needless to say, chips weren't very hot and were dry on both occasions, I noted a sign saying all our food is cooked to order!how Strange! Burgers aren't great either, not a great deal of flavour, quite obviously made with the cheapest possible ingredients. A real shame about this place, huge potential to be a gold mine with its location. Staff were perfectly polite to me but when not dealing with customers there is a lot of shouting from inside the kitchen.

Granted it was busy but several people got their food before us because we had to wait for gravy which turned out to be lumpy. Our fish and chips had been wrapped for 10 minutes waiting on the gravy while we listened to the staff shout at each other.

I live on woolwell and after a long work day fancied sausage and chips (even though I am on a diet). I wasn't dissapointed and was all cooked perfectly. I would review the curry sauce but as of yet still have never managed to get any! It was 7pm and they said would be lucky to get any this late in the evening. I will keep trying and maybe one day get some or change my working hours.

It used to be good but the last twice the fish has been rubbish, once vey small portions, then next time not cooked, cold in the middle and slimy. Won't be back, I live in Woolwell but would drive to somewhere better from now on.

Ordered large cod and chips. Takes a while but fresh so fair enough. Fish very nice, chips above average too. However; the place needs a good woman or more in there; customer service is borderline abusive from the young men oozing attitude. The foul language behind the counter is a complete disgrace and the chavs loitering around are very off-putting. Come time to suggest the wrong size fish was passed off as large I got a torrent of verbal abuse including the worst obsentities known to man and given the single finger salute. Not acceptable.

Found it by accident after shopping, all fish and meats cooked to order so really fresh and hot, chip are cooked .well " no oily grease here

How bad is this place! Ok fair enough I know they cook the product fresh as you wait, but 20 minutes for fish and chips!!! And once I got home to eat my long awaited tea the wait was not worth it. Soggy batter on the fish and over done crispy chips. Not impressed, and would never use them again.

Surprisingly it is hard to find really good fish and chips in Plymouth. This place tops our bill at the moment, we have had food from them a few times both collected and delivered via 'Just Eat' and every time the food has been really good. The fish is fresh and not overcooked, its also a good size, the chips are lovely. They have many other items on the menu and other family members have tried it and enjoyed it (kebabs and burgers). However I have had the curry sauce twice and both times it was almost inedible, cold and too thick. I would still recommend Woolwell Fish Bar as an above average chip shop.

cooked whilst you wait, the fish is really good and plenty of chips. one of the best fish and chip shops in the city,only a short drive to the moors to eat them .the packaging keeps them really hot. but be cheeky ask for your fish in a separate box other wise it will go soggy.

Delicious freshly cooked cod and chips , reasonably priced meal.Fishcakes and sausage in batter completed our meal, well cooked too.

I live locally in the area and recently tried woolwell fish bar, the food was perfect and my entire family enjoyed it, I highly recommend giving it a try :).
