Mountbatten Pub in Plymouth

Disgraceful, never again. Been eating and drinking there for years. Took family there for an evening meal. Having spent over £200 pounds, at 9:15 we were told they weren't serving any more drinks, as they were closing and we had to leave. No apology and the member of staff walked away while we were speaking to her. This was entirely unprovoked, we had been quiet and polite all evening. It was purely because it had gone quiet, and most customers had left, not surprising if that's how they treat people.

Chicken and chips. Chicken looked cooked, but perhaps the kitchen staff not so clean. New menu seems to be causing issues. Just stick to cheesy chips. I've never been so ill. Ate Friday 20th outside, started to feel unwell 12 hours later. Took a week before GP ascertained what had poisoned me. Be careful when ordering.

First time I’ve been here for a long time. 13 of us went. Lovely service. Staff so happy and welcoming. Fair price for good food.

Debs was absolutely wonderful! I have so many allergies, and she went out of her way to make sure I had a delicious meal that was safe to eat. I have come all the way from the US to see Mount Batten, and didn't have much information about the old RAF base. Well...Debs LITERALLY showed me the coolest, most informative book on it, and made my whole trip there! Thanks so much! Ask for Debs when you get there, she will make sure your visit is a wonderful one.

A proper Carvery Roast, served hot, brilliant quality, by lovely helpful genuine staff, and all at a very good price. What's not to like.

Wir haben auf unserer Wanderung für einen kleinen Snack Halt gemacht! Bestellt haben wir einen Burger mit Pommes und Lasagne! Hat alles reibungslos funktioniert, allerdings kam die nette Bedienung später noch mit einem zweiten Burger, den wir weder bestellt, noch bezahlt haben. Irgendwie hat's sich es dann doch geklärt 🤷🏻‍♂️ Sie war halt in Eile und kurz angebunden, aber trotzdem hat Sie für unseren Hund eine Schüssel mit Wasser aufgetrieben! Hier noch einmal herzlichen Dank für die gute Tat!! Das Essen war für den Preis völlig in Ordnung! Der Burger war "trocken" serviert, aber Ketchup und Mayonnaise konnte man sich holen soviel man will! Die Pommes waren etwas ungewürzt, aber auch dafür gab es Abhilfe! Die Lasagne war nach Aussage meiner Frau auch lecker und nicht zu fettig! Vielleicht ist es sogar Absicht, denn nicht jeder mag es stark gewürzt und kann es sich nach seinem Geschmack nachwürzen!

APPALLING!! Food was mediocre, atmosphere was zero, decor mid 80s and worst of all we were asked to leave at 9.30pm as the pub was CLOSiNG! They were happy to take our money (£140 spent on food and drink tonight) but that wasn't good enough ... we were not given any warning or drinking up time. When I commented on this we were told they had to pay for lighting!!! My advice would be to take your custom somewhere which deserves it. This place is dead in the water and any new owner will need to work hard to recoup any goodwill. If I could leave a ZERO rating it would be too positive.

We went here for Sunday lunch, had heard it was good. Place was busy but staff were helpful, the tables were being cleared pretty quickly and service at the bar was good. We chose the vegetarian option, advertised as 'available at the carvery' but found that there actually wasn't one! We were just served vegetables with nothing as a centrepiece, and no veggie gravy choice either. There are so many decent vegetarian dinner options out there now, Quorn roasts, mushroom, lentil, bean etc that this came as a real surprise in this day and age. The veg was very nice and there were different options like beetroot that don't always get offered BUT no main? that seems a bit slack, to be honest. Please, don't offer a 'vegetarian carvery' if you cant find something to accompany the side veg.

Ordered the Tuna Nicoise salad and know that there can be more than one way to serve but a mound of iceberg lettuce with some tuna balanced on top with a couple of slices of cucumber, one chopped tomato, one small chopped egg and a handful of soggy green beans was disappointing. Was supposed to be served with new potatoes but they were absent and had to go to the bar to ask. Got a bowl with cold new potatoes and OK, they can be served hot or cold. For the price, if I remember correctly, of £13.50 - very poor. Menu has changed so assume new owners or chef. It is in a lovely position but I won't be rushing to return.

Wonderful food terrible service staff didn’t care about a few issues ignored me while trying to ask a question also I ended up helping a lady outside when staff ignored her and walked away terrible customer service terrible staff

Had the faggots, half way through pulled a hair out of my mouth, was about 2 1/2 inches & light brown, I have long blond hair. When we informed the waitress she apologised but said it didn’t come from our kitchen walked off. We later told the owner who was apologetic but again did nothing. Was disappointed with the half hearted apology & not even a complimentary drink. Did not eat the rest of the meal had only eaten about a 1/4 of it & not even a refund was offered. Would not be eating a meal there again!!!

I used to live in Plymouth so when I come down the first port of call is the Mountbatten for their cheesy chips . Last night we went and I ordered the chips expecting the quality I normally had in the past ,but they were awful!! Very greasy in fact swimming in oil . Some ( a lot) of the chips were black . They have decided to serve them in a plastic basket which doesn’t help the grease at all , no paper in the bottom to soak up the said grease . What a total disappointment! Come on get your act together and serve the fantastic chips you normally serve !!!!!

This is our local and we visit often in the evening. Good value and nice views of the sea especially in the summer. Staff are lovely and very friendly. Food is well priced and lots of choices. A new menu has just been brought out with even more choices.

I was abit worried because of a negative review but I didn't need to be. Really yummy lunch. Staff were busy but not so much we felt neglected. No problem to eat here again.

We have visited for years and keep returning as we always enjoy our meal and the location is beautiful, however the staff let the place down. I would like to point out the sign saying “only well behaved children welcome” as you walk in, would be took as humour if the staff were friendly but but with a waitress that was rude and didn’t even crack a smile and 2 bar men who were very cold and unwelcoming it made me feel unwelcome when walking in with my my well behaved 8 year old son. I have definitely Decided after 10 years of visiting we won’t be returning again. Shame as we have such lovely family memories there.

Been coming here for years, the food is always spot on. Today is the first Time we have been since the end of summer, and to be honest we were really Disappointed. Food was lovely as always, so literally "compliments to the chef", however there seems to have been a change up as there multiple new members of staff..... and these people, unfortunately, are the reason I have left a review. As we greeted our family and brought our drinks from the bar to our table, my wife's glass of wine was knocked off the table, spilling on the chair and floor, and the stem of the glass smashed. Between our group we picked up all the large shards of glass, and we alerted the staff behind the bar. This was met with a huff, followed by "You're joking". The staff member then came over a begrudgingly had a token sweep of the area with a face like a boot. We had two young children on the table so when my wife went up to order a replacement wine, she asked another staff member behind the bar for a children's menu, which was visible on the shelf behind her, this was also met with a huff. We ordered food and another round of drinks, and left feeling thoroughly unwelcomed, and questioning whether we would return. This has been a go to location for us for many years, primarily because of the location, and the food, however this has put us off the drive across Plymouth, and made us more inclined to stay local where we at least get a smile. We will no doubt give in to the lure of sitting outside in the sunshine on a summers day 2024, however I hope by which time the staff have had a consultation that "It's nice to be nice", or some additional members get added, with a bit of warmth to them. Fingers crossed it changes, because it is a nice place

Absolutely amazing food. Fresh, piping hot and the beef madras was so good. The meat was tender, preferred it to our local Indian takeaway. Massive portions too. The staff are friendly and the dog got spoilt too. Well recommended.

We've been coming here on and off for years. The food is always good, generous portions and reasonably priced but the atmosphere is awful. The owner is always sitting at the bar watching the staff, I don't know if this affects them but there was no welcome, personality, humour or anything, they were like mildly polite robots!!!! How can a pub be so 'miserable'???

On a day out to Plymouth from our holiday in Challaborough, we were told to check this place out for there magnificent carvery and we were not disappointed! The Sunday carvery was fantastic with a great choice of meats and loads of vegetables which you can add yourself, everything was piping hot. We know when we come back to Devon next year that we will head to the Mountbatten again!

Not a great experience. Staff was incredibly miserable and food was not great. Price was average but definitely not worth it for the quality.

ApproachedThe Mountbatten Hotel for a meal with family. It wasn't clear where the main bar entrance was, but the hotel entrance was obstructed by, what looked like, the owner's car. It was parked on a pedestrian section alongside a No Parking sign! Found the bar entrance and an outside table. Entered the bar to order food. Waited at the bar to be told food needed to be ordered to the right at the end of the bar - which was set at an angle facing the old-fashioned cutlery and condiments trays. Once there, a sign was visible overhead, but only to those queueing for food! I didn't wish to wait in the long queue, so often for a carvery instead - which was labelled and visible as one walks initially into the bar. The carvey section is to the far left of the bar and in a separate room with more seating. Once I had paid for and collected the cavery, I attempted to collect some cutlery from the same room, but was told the cutlery was for those sitting within this room (the cutlery was in a basket near the door). I explained that I was eating a cavery (in case the waitress couldn't tell by what was in my hands) and that I was sitting outside. Again, she said it was for those eating within this particular room. I struggled to understand why only those eating within the room could use cutlery from the basket near the door! It was then explained that I would need to get cutlery from the other end of the bar - where I had been earlier and avoided as the queue was quite long! I must say though, that the beef tasted absolutely gorgeous. The family member then attempted to get their cavery (we had a dog with us, so one of us needed to wait outside). For some strange reason he wasn't able to. The time was about 13:30. He then opted for a meal from the menu, so had to join the very long queue at the right end of the bar. By the time he came out, I had finished my meal! His meal then took a further 45 minutes to arrive and was, at best, mediocre. Whilst there, we witnessed a customer complain, waitress staff chasing their tails, numerous customers being directed to the right side of the bar in order to choose and pay for their food and poor or inappropriate signage in several areas. If the owner of this establishment wishes to understand how to ensure customer satisfaction, they can respond below and I'd be willing to discuss it with him, but perhaps he's stuck in his ways and does what he's always done - or does what he thinks works. It doesn't!

They serve really well here and serves very good considering how many people are in for food. Food great standard and quantity cant fault

We went to the Mountbatten on a Thursday night and although it does have it's shortcomings, the food was not one of them. In fact the food was very good, lots of it and delivered in not too long a time at all. We were told last orders for food was 830 and we got there at about 8 so felt we were rushing it a bit, but were able to get a table and sit down and our food came quite quickly. Our party of 7 all enjoyed the food and there was a good variety to choose from. It is a pub and you do have to pick up your own cutlery and stuff but we had a couple of pints and all was good. The items we had were Liver and onions, fish and chips , Hunters Chicken , burger and chips and belly pork. The shortcomings I found about this pub were that it closes at 9 even on a Saturday, which I find ridiculous, and this annoying habit that customers have of queuing back from the bar, like they were in the Post Office, which is not even the fault of the pub. However, all in all we had a very enjoyable meal.

Dirty, grubby pub/restaurant. The forks still had food wedge in them. Caterpillar in the salad, and rude unhelpful waitress... It's a no from me.

Me and my husband came for some lunch. I ordered lamp chops (which were lovely), the older-aged waitress with the short hair slammed our plates on the table, and when I asked for mint sauce she huffed and ignored me, to which I had to ask the bar staff, who were very helpful and got it for me instantly. Apart from that one member, we had a pleasant time and enjoyed our food.

Lovely setting, staff are good and the food generally is OK. Unfortunately the fish pie was not good, hardly any fish and far too much potato, very disappointing!!

Called to see if we needed to book a table for a Friday lunchtime and the guy who answered the phone hung up as soon as I said why I was calling. I called back in case it was an accidental cut off and he picked up the phone (I could hear the background noise of the restaurant) and he immediately hung up again without saying anything. Looking at recent reviews I'm relieved we didn't go there.

We popped in for a drink and lunch. I must say that we were very dissapointed with the food. We got a refund on one of our meals as it was so bad, swimming in melted margarine. No real follow up or apology from staff. I didn't think a sandwich and baguette could be done so badly. I cannot see how what we had could be sent out from the kitchen. A real missed opportunity here with it in such a good location.

Absolutely appalling service and the food wasn’t cooked through. I specifically requested that I wanted the lamb well done and no blood, the staff member assured me that it would be. The food arrive which looked like a slop and the meat wasn’t cooked through the chips had been microwaved and the gravy tasted of liver. On arrival we couldn’t understand why the car park was empty, now we realise. At all cost avoid eating here appalling food at top prices!

Wow, what is wrong with the staff in this place? Do you have chocolate ice cream (for kids) Her "I don't know" ..... what's your crumble today? "I don't know," then nothing. Can you go check? Work it out? I mean, how slow and dumb can someone be. Walk in and know one even looks at you or makes any kind of effort on anything. Almost feel like I'm being rude asking for something to eat and drink. This place has so much potential. it's unreal. It's in an amazing place, but the staff are shocking. Even has a sign saying about kids, mist stay seated, can't go toilet without an adult! So we definitely felt even more welcome with our family. It is very annoying that this place is just down the road from and I'd love to come here often but it's always awful. I'll come back in the summer in the hope it's changed owners or manager who actually wants to give the customer a great experience but I'm sure like always it will be a shockingly poor experience again.

Staff were friendly and accommodating for our family of seven. The roast was nice enough, as expected I suppose. Helpful staff. Plenty of vegetables available.

Idiot staff. Very unfriendly and a real shame. We went to “the bridge” round the corner and this was lovely. Would recommend you do the same.

Decent food but incredible rude member of staff at the door. I understand the need to be Covid safe but he was just rude.

Just tried the new fish menu and I must say how fantastic it was. The mussels cooked to perfection. The fish goujons were very light and flavoursome. The king prawns in batter were lite and fluffy. I tried a sample of the fish curry, needs to be tried. An excellent meal all round.

We had a pleasant hour here, the staff were very friendly and although the place was packed they managed to find an hour for us until the table was reserved which we much appreciated. Our snacks and drinks were excellent no complaints thank you.

Me hizo sentir muy estresado y enojado porque solo porque tengo un problema de salud, ¡no puedo tomar una copa con mi familia solo porque a él no le gustó! Vine aquí esta noche para comer y beber y la señora que nos atendió fue tan grosera que nos acabábamos de sentar y vino directamente a tomar nuestro pedido, aunque ni siquiera habíamos tenido la oportunidad de ver el menú, le preguntó. Si pudiéramos tener cinco minutos, lo cual fue claramente un gran problema para esta dama, regresó en un minuto. Nos apresuraron a comer y beber tan pronto como pedimos, vinieron con la máquina de tarjetas, pero todos los demás pagaron al final. Estaba parada allí echando humo con la mano en la cadera y tenía una actitud muy pobre, se acercó a nosotros a las 7:55 y nos dijo que teníamos que irnos ya que tenían una mesa reservada a las 8 a pesar de que había muchas otras mesas alrededor que estaban del mismo tamaño y libre y comenzamos a limpiar la mesa ya que todavía estábamos allí sentados. Nos quedamos afuera por otros 30 minutos y nadie apareció a la mesa. ¡Qué servicio tan grosero!

Han pasado algunos años desde que estuvimos aquí, pero no nos decepcionó a pesar de leer algunas críticas negativas recientes. Debido a Covid, todas las comidas son servicio de mesa. Buenos esfuerzos para mantener a los clientes seguros con suficiente espacio entre las mesas. Buena elección de menú, aunque es comprensible que el asador no estaba abierto. El tamaño de las porciones de comida era muy generoso y la comida era muy buena. El personal era muy amable y educado, aunque vimos al gerente hablar con uno de los servidores de manera innapropiatly e irrespetuosa, lo cual fue totalmente innecesario y parecía que molestó al servidor. El personal parecía estar injertando en circunstancias difíciles y lo hacía con una sonrisa. Es una pena que el tipo que parecía estar a cargo parece haber olvidado que su mayor activo es su personal. Muy bien en general. Le hubiera dado 5 estrellas si no hubiéramos visto a un miembro del personal siendo castigado y claramente avergonzado a la vista de los clientes. Aparte de eso, asegúrese de que su estómago esté vacío ya que las porciones son grandes.

Fui a tomar una copa un viernes por la tarde, con la esperanza de sentarme afuera en un lugar tan fantástico. Entró y el chico detrás de la barra le gritó. "¡Párate ahí! ¡Hay un letrero!" Nos sorprendió mucho que nos gritaran porque no nos habíamos dado cuenta del letrero (que, para ser justos con nosotros, era del tamaño de un sello postal). Así que hicimos lo que se nos dijo y esperamos, y esperamos y esperamos. Las camareras subían con pedidos de bebidas y él seguía sirviéndolas frente a nosotros. La gota que colmó el vaso fue cuando uno se acercó y nos gritó "retroceda para que pueda ponerme detrás de la barra". "No es necesario", dije, "nos vamos" y salimos.Habiendo leído las reseñas, parece que este es un comportamiento estándar. No tengo idea de si era el gerente al que todos se refieren o no, pero, sea quien sea, necesita un curso de servicio al cliente, o mejor aún, ¡un cambio de carrera!Con tantos pubs geniales que van más allá para ofrecer un gran valor y servicio, este lugar debe darse cuenta de que necesitan a los clientes, no al revés.

Booked a table for a family meal and have to say food was lovely ... everybody enjoyed their meal! Fish pie was packed full of fish and delicious. One way system in place and very Covid safe when queuing for drinks at bar.

Me informaron sobre los días especiales al ingresar y cuando fui a pedirlo 5 minutos después, me quedé decepcionado cuando se agotó (esto fue 5 minutos después de la apertura y no había ninguna advertencia de que había una cantidad muy limitada disponible). jamón, patatas fritas y guisantes que incluían piña que no se veía por ningún lado. No compruebe si nuestra comida está bien, lo que habría mencionado la piña que faltaba y la terrible hamburguesa de pollo de mi compañero.La siguiente vez que la camarera nos habló fue cuando limpiamos nuestras mesas y finalmente preguntó por nuestra comida y solo gruñó en respuesta a que mi compañero no estaba satisfecho con la hamburguesa, ya que estaba aceitosa y no sabía nada bien.

Primera vez para una comida familiar desde el encierro de Covid - 19. Comida bien. Segunda pinta de cerveza "apagada". La camarera estuvo de acuerdo en que olía fatal y se lo quitó y el costo de la pinta se deducirá de nuestra factura de 80. Luego nos enfrentamos a "Mark the Manager". Nos dijo en términos inequívocos que la pinta no tenía nada de malo, que la camarera "no sabe nada de cerveza" y, como mi marido se había bebido un poco de la pinta, no se podía negociar un reembolso.Habilidades gerenciales - inexistentes, servicio al cliente - espantosas.Todo por apoyar el comercio local, pero este lugar está fuera de la lista. ¡La palabra viaja rápido a nivel local!

Comida familiar totalmente arruinada por el gerente de un bar, Mark, quien pensó que era correcto rechazar un reembolso por una pinta de cerveza maloliente en un billete de 80 porque "sabía cerveza y no estaba de acuerdo, sin embargo, si lo hubiéramos señalado antes bebido un poco, lo habría cambiado ". También se paró frente a nuestra mesa familiar y dijo que la camarera a la que le informamos "no tenía ni idea de la cerveza".Entonces, esa sola pinta de cerveza ha costado repetir la costumbre y una mala revisión.Es una pena, especialmente en los tiempos que corren cuando los pubs necesitan urgentemente negocios.No regresará y sugiero encarecidamente que Mark aprenda a comprender los principios básicos para tratar con clientes insatisfechos, por trivial que sienta que es.Una pinta de cerveza.Es una lástima que la comida fuera tan buena como la camarera, que parecía tan avergonzada como nosotros.

Habiendo visitado durante muchos años y amado la comida y el servicio, me sorprendió que me sirvieran tal basura ayer: no era más que una basura barata en el microondas y cuando lo preguntamos, enviaron a una joven camarera a disculparse cuando claramente no era su culpa y cuándo pagamos al camarero se encogió de hombros ante nuestras preocupaciones; el mejor consejo es mantenerse alejado

We spent a lot of money in here the evening before with a group of us doing voluntary charity work in Plymouth.This evening we found a table and ordered our food. Told they would be closing shortly (but didn’t say when). Two of our group turned up 4 minutes after us and they shut the door in their faces, refusing to serve them with countless excuses. Chef wants to go home. Down on staff (anybody in Plymouth looking for work right now? Reckon there are a few...) whinging and whining about how they worked all day blah blah. Chef’s been in a hot kitchen all day. Aww bless.I pointed out that I wasn’t interested in their ‘covid excuses’ when the owner tried to mansplain to me all his woes. I explained that as a Paramedic who has worked non stop through covid and no stranger to working late, I wasn’t really interested in the chef wanting to go home. It was 20:35 and they just randomly decided to stop serving so half our group went hungry and had to leave to find a takeaway. The waitress actually said this: “So what’s the difference between a chef and a Paramedic?”Yeh, she actually said that.I replied that Paramedics don’t refuse to serve their customers. Her attitude stank. The owners attitude stank. The food is barely average and we only ate there as it was the only place not fully booked. Tells you a lot.Places like this that have whinged and whined about the hospitality sector struggling, don’t want your custom nor your money.So go get a takeaway. You’ll get better food and nicer people.Fawlty Towers has nothing on this place. At least 10 customers now saying they’ll never go back. And they’ll tell their friends.Even more hilarious, they messed up the order and brought and extra meal our friends could have had! Steer well clear.

I went with my husband and 3 year old and sat at a table at 230 which was reserved from 4pm. A waitress rudely approached me and said “you can’t sit there, it’s reserved” I explained it was from 4 and we wouldn’t be long and she went away to check. She came back and said “no you can’t sit here, someone should have been here at 2 but is running late”. Her manner was rude and I can’t remember the last time I have been spoken to like that. We got up and left and walked outside where she began talking about me to other members of staff which was overheard from other customers who later told me. Appalling customer service.

Excellent service. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. Social distance was in place. Food was well cooked and delicious. Will definitely be visiting again.

The waiter was disgusting and rude when talking to us! The bar owner backed his staff completely and would not listen to what we had to say when confronting him on how we were dealt with by his staff! They then stopped serving us from when we then try to speak to them about how we were dealt with, forcing us to leave!

My friend and I visited the pub to get some drinks however, we were greeted with a rude staff, presumably the manager as he acted he was in charge. He was aggressive, rude and refused to serve us by saying that we are not serving you, out out. This was following us making a comment saying that it was ridiculous. Despite showing a valid Id he continued to be rude.

I usually come here often with my friend.. I ordered the fish and chips and the grease was shocking on the better.. instead of going on about it the service is bloody shocking..

It was a really good evening, excellent menu, good atmosphere and very good food i would really recommend this pub, well done Mount Batten

Basic British foods mains are priced at £10 but food quality is more like £6 - everything looks and tastes prepared and warmed up - wasnt terrible but wasn't great either - ambience of old peoples home - shame as location is fantastic

After receiving a large bowl of cheesy chips, I exclaimed “f**king hell thats a lot”, in which I was told off for swearing. Why are you having a go at me for complimenting your food ya wrongens. Since that incident we were stared at by the bar workers watching us which made us feel proper uncomfortable. Ain’t coming again, word of advice: mind ya language, it’s flipping strict in there!

Excellent food, large portions and great value for money. Can get busy at lunch & tea times, but if you go a little later if earlier there’s no problem getting a table. Pub is dog friendly & also has a section that is adult dining only. Sheltered seating outside as well as plenty of seating in the open. Staff are friendly and helpful. We alway eat here when in Plymouth visiting our parents and have never had a bad experience

We visit this place on a regular basis & like it very much. The food is always good & piping hot. We go at least once a week.

The seafood platter was disgusting, the crab was like no crab I’ve tasted and it was grey in colour, what’s that about!!!!The bread was dry and stale, and the mackerel was uneatable, the teas were cold, I wish now I had taken a photo of my so called seafood platter. We won’t be visiting again, what a total waste of a prime location, it could have been so different if the food was edible...

Visited with a friend for Sunday lunch whilst out for a walk, we had the £10 Buffet Carvery, there was a good selection of vegetables and the location is great , The food was adequate , it was very busy and you do feel like your on a conveyer belt in , eat and out .

Went here for a carvery with the family. Fantastic service by the staff and the food was great! The selection of veg was amazing but it would be nice if the veg was labelled as some of it looks similar and I also tried some new things that I liked but was not sure what they were.

After reading some of the reviews, we were meeting family living near to Plymouth, so it was with trepidation that we entered the Mount Batten Pub. We had a person who is disabled with walking difficulties with us. We found the parking very good, and there was a ramp down to the pub, which was fine. I went to the bar for a round of drinks, the staff were very helpful and good prices. We ordered food at the bar, again the staff were helpful and chatty. The waitress was also friendly and helpful. The food was good, the portions were enormous and very tasty. We all enjoyed our visit. It was a pity the weather was very cloudy and rainy, as the view from the pub would have been amazing.

We decided to give this restaurant a 2nd chance for a family meal, overall the food was ok for pub grub but the staff are a liability rude unhelpful and untrained

Generous portions and superb food. Really glad we came. Staff really good too. Fab view even in rain.

Rude manager who thinks he can speak to people like they are trash. Told my mum she had made his staff feel intimidated simply by raising a concern that sauce was out of date.

Un gran lugar para tomar una agradable bebida sociable con amigos, o si la señora y yo deseamos tomar un té o si estamos dando un paseo y nos detenemos para tomar una sidra descarada por la tarde. Ponte a trabajar en verano debido a su excelente ubicación. Atrae algo de boca ruidosa, se emborracha antes de ir a los tipos de Barbican, pero eso es principalmente en el verano. Aparte de eso, es un gran pub, con excelente comida y excelente personal, no importa lo ocupado que esté, siempre son amables.

Absolutamente basura con un personal muy grosero. Pedí un par de artículos del menú, solo me dijeron que me tomarían 40 minutos después de 55 minutos. Me dijeron que estaban ocupados. El supervisor fue un poco brusco. Por lo que teníamos que decir, muy caro y no volveré allí pronto.

El restaurante y bar Mountbatten está justo al final de la península de Mountbatten y es un lugar encantador para sentarse y tomar una cerveza o beber dentro o fuera. Se enfrenta a través de Plymouth Sound y también a Cattewater. Las comidas de pub son grandes, muy sabrosas y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Mi favorita es una ensalada grande de mariscos, que contiene vieiras, langostinos, cangrejo, caballa y salmón ahumado, ¡todo por 10!

Excelente comida siempre! Vivimos localmente y visitamos con frecuencia. Las comidas Yorkie son excelentes y sabrosas. Bien presentado con verduras frescas.

I popped it in just for some chips. And I’m vegan. And they tasted like fish!!! So I’m pretty sure they were cooked in the same oil. Ergh. Was gross and I was very poorly after.

This hotel is in a great spot but the service and food are both appalling. We had the carvery and it was just awful. The meat was over cooked and the veggies were stale. The service was slow and some staff were very rude. The customers were lovely though and happy to tell us about the area. I wouldn’t recommend this pub for its food.

Booking to eat the carvery in the restaurant is essential in the holiday period.

The pub is in a nice position with lovely views from its outside area, where all the seating is on picnic benches. There is also an area enclosed by glass, which protects against sea breezes, but none of the outside areas are particularly nice. We went inside as it was breezy and didn’t want to sit on wooden benches anyway! We only had coffees, which were cheap at £2.60 for lattes but on the other hand , they were out of a press button machine and not very nice, although we were given a pack of biscuits each! The service at the bar was not at all friendly. The food menu was quite good and prices mainly averaged £9 - £10.....people were eating and the meals looked good, but as we weren’t eating ourselves we couldn’t comment on the quality.

I had the Cumberland sausages and mash and my wife had the fish platter. Both very nice. Service was very good, staff cheerful and helpful. Lovely

You want to go abroad.Look at the great views from here and the weather is great.Came here for a drink to chill and sit in the sun there is shade if you wish.And the food looked fine.But we didn't eat here.If you want Sunday lunch they say it's best to book.So we will.

Visited Saturday 1st June for a family birthday meal & brought a cake with us which we asked to be brought out after the mains had been cleared. (Asked once when cake was brought in and again when mains ordered) Can't complain about the food (other than the sauce that accompanies the prawn sandwich just comes on the side rather than being mixed in with the prawns.. weird considering if you ordered a tuna mayo sandwich you'd expect the mayo to be mixed into with the tuna and then put in the sandwich) anyway, mains cleared.. no sign of cake, reminder to bar staff who appeared to just be wandering around trying to look busy, nearly 30mins later & they had forgot completely! Cake was then brought out followed by no knife or plates - just ridiculous & very disappointing as not a big ask to bring a cake out! Doesn't seem a very big deal but the last time we eat here a few weeks ago for a carvery,(1:30pm arrival) the table next to us got offered dessert menus after their plates were cleared. We however, were asked to evacuate our table after only 1hr 15mins of sitting down, bearing in mind the queue for the carvery is 30mins long. When stating to the waitress that we weren't told over the phone when booking that we only had a certain amount of time to be in and out & querying why dessert menus weren't offered we barely even had a response was jusy shrugged off and we all left very annoyed! Will avoid in future as it seems very rude, unprofessional staff all round.

Used to be very good but has gone down hill. Our last 2 visits haven’t been enjoyable. It’s also all looking a bit dirty and dated. They are obviously doing something right as it was packed.

Met friends for a meal.Can't book table so try out of normal peak times so wait for table as they quickly turn around.Our friends frequently go there and recommended the liver and bacon.We ended up all four of us ordering this and wow we were not sisappointed a super portion and great tasting liver with beautiful flavoursome bacon served on a bed of soft mashed potato and a good thick tasty gravy.We all devoured the lot and commented on another visit.

We visited for a pub lunch and decided to go for the carvery - at £10 a head it was outstanding value and the choice of veg was huge - over a dozen different vegetable dishes to chose fro as well as the choice of 2 meats from a choice of 4. It was a lovely sunny day so we sat outside and admired the great view. The normal bar menu looks good and there were also specials to choose from, there is something for everyone. The staff were polite and helpful even though they were really busy. I will definitely go back to try something else from the menu. They are also dog friendly and allow them in the bar as long as they are on a lead. Give it a go I am sure you will like it

Car park states the barrier goes up 20 minutes before pub opens. We were bang on 11.40 by coincidence but the barrier was down so we went down to the roundabout to turn around and when we came back there was a car at the barrier and it was going up. I followed the car in as it was 11.42 and I assumed it was now open. Car in front of me stopped sharply leaving me right under the barrier which I worried might come down on my car. The woman in the car hollered at me out of her window “Excuse me, you’re not allowed in here yet. I’m staff and the car park opens 15 minutes before before the pub!”

Took my parents here yesterday for Sunday Carvery. I booked a table for 3pm. We arrived at 2.45pm but our table was not ready. The bar was packed and we had to wait for someone to leave to get a seat. At 3pm I returned to the carvery area to be told that our table was still not ready. Luckily my parents stayed in the bar area so we did not lose our seats. After several return trips to the carvery, our table was finally ready at 3.25pm. At 3.15pm the carvery is opened to everyone in the bar area. This meant that the world and his dog had joined the queue before we had even got our prebooked table. It was chaos. As my father is disabled, we decided to wait for the queue to die down a bit before joining it, as it would have been far too long for my father to stand. At 4pm we finally reached the front of the queue. There were no apologies or compensation offered, just the explanation that it had been very busy! The food itself was good apart from the lamb which was a bit tough and the roast potatoes were solid and inedible. At £10 a head, not particularly good value. By the time we finished our meal, the staff had joined us in the carvery to eat! Not somewhere I would go again.

Best £10.00 Carvery I have ever encountered. Great variety of Meats usually around 6. Chef cuts these for you and you can have a choice of up to 2. Trust me if you are pleasnat to the chef he is generous with the potions. So be nice, you are here to have a great time. Onto the buffet were you help yourself to the largest selection of Veg and trimmings that you will encounter anywhere. No worries about potential Brexit shortages at Mountbatten. Stack your plate with virtually every variety of veg that you could want. One thing i'll guarentee your plate wont be big enough as the selection is vast and of good quality and taste. Something for everyone. Remeber if you want to sit in the Restaurant area you should book. 3 sittings 12 noon, 1330 and 1500 hrs so book and avoid disappointment. Great food, great value and nice views as you look over toward the Barbican. If you are in Plymouth area pop on over you'll be delighted you did.

Nice pub, friendly staff. Food value for money. Good scenic views too. Dog friendly and children friendly. Spacious dinning area.

We booked a table in advance for 12 people to celebrate two family birthdays. By the time we finally got parked and arrived at the dining area, (which we had to disturb the group of ladies talking) to let them know we had arrived. We were directed to where our tables were.

my partner and i visited the pub on the 24/02/19 we had the large haddock which was absolutely gorgeous ,staff too busy to be friendly and whilst queueing for food which stated food orders only the guy was pouring drinks as well thus i waited in the food queue for ages bit annoying

We calledin after a walk on the pier it was ok.pub food not poor not fantastic. The staff were ok . It just doesn't seem welcoming. Nice setting .we would call in again

Popped in for a drink with a friend last night and whilst chatting one of the barmaids swooped past and swiped my friends drink off the table! I’m guessing they don’t have enough glasses to go round because every 5 seconds someone is lurking and watching to see if your glass is empty. On this occasion though my friend had a good inch or two of her drink left and it just vanished as this barmaid came past.

My husband and I had a rare day off with no children and, being Valentine’s Day, thought we’d pop out for some lunch. Constrained by time, we stayed locally and went to the Mount Batten so we could go for a walk after.

Visitamos aquí con amigos y nos sorprendió gratamente que no anticipáramos que la comida sería tan buena como lo fue. Tres de nosotros tuvimos el pub pescado y papas fritas especiales y fue muy bueno, aunque las chuletas de cordero no eran tan buenas, pero el corte de carne puede ser variable, por lo que no podemos culparlos. Una cosa que defrauda el lugar es la confianza en los terribles sobres de condimentos, por qué no poner esa delicadeza extra y tener los condimentos adecuados para la mesa, no es como si la comida fuera barata.

La comida excepcionalmente pobre, sin sabor muy suave, todo congelado caliente, sin frescura, no volverá a comer allí. Ciertamente se espera mejor, muy decepcionado. Una carne de res asada de una bolsa con zanahorias congeladas, papas envasadas al vacío y nadando en salsa, han tenido mucho mejor. Otra comida Cordero Vástago nuevamente con vegetales congelados y Vástago del paquete. Todo efectivo y acarreo, valor por dinero.

The manager here treats customers disgustingly. The food is below average for the price save your money and go to the bridge inn round the corner. The manager couldn’t care less about you while at the premises.

The bloke running the place is very rude and has no consideration for anyone! DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE! Save your money and go to the bridge which is just arround the corner!

I attended this establishment yesterday lunchtime. For the main course I had I had the whole plaice from the special menu. It was full of bones which I was not told about when ordering. This came with broccoli which was undercooked and also came with new potatoes which were also undercooked. No member of staff enquired if my meal was alright. I had some cheese cake for dessert which was not much better.The member of staff I spoke to about the unacceptable main course was totally disinterested!! Very poor customer service. The Mount Batten is in a superb setting, looking back over Plymouth Barbican and sea. The water ferry docks right beside the pub from the Barbican quite frequently. We go by road. The hotel is attached beside the pub, and a substantial carpark to service both. Lots of outside chairs and tables, inside is pretty big but still cosy. A large menu to choose from, and a good selection of beers, wines etc. The meals are nicely presented and being a Friday 5'ish, it was fairly quiet. Our order was delivered quite quickly. The staff are very friendly. It wasn't the best meal I have had there, unfortunately the gammon steak was very chewy, but Husband to the rescue, he had no trouble. I ate everything else, and had a banana split for sweet. Husband had the sausage, gravy and mash which he thoroughly enjoyed. Profiteroles for sweet. Prices are medium. There are lovely walks all around, we have spent many happy hours in the area. It was once RAF Mount Batten and not open to the public. Lawrence of Arabia was stationed there and where he was returning to when he was killed on his motorbike. There are plaques and statues etc., so history attached too.

After hearing people say that this was the best place to get a carvery in Plymouth I decided to give it a try. To say I was very disappointed is an understatement. Everything was over cooked. Potatoes were hard and the beef that I had was so tough I couldn’t cut it with my knife let alone chew it. Yes there was a large selection of vegetables, but it was in reality only about 6 which had been cooked an umpteen different ways and they were all mushy and soft. The mashed swede that was on offer was very watery and sloppy. Also none of it was very hot. Overall a very disappointing experience and will definitely not be returning.

This is a self-service type of pub: order at the bar style. The menu is extremely varied with lots of choice, including several homemade items. I had belly of pork which was delicious, followed by homemade cheesecake. The ambiance was enjoyable and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Lovely view of the water.

I was visiting Plymouth and staying with relatives in Plymstock, so one night I invited them out to dinner on me. They chose the nearby Mount Batten Pub.

Didn't eat as put off by recent reviews, but the good we saw looked fine. Unsure that the claim of 24 veg is real

Spent weekend visiting friends (David & Martine G) – had fortune to enjoy a really great evening in the Mountbatten, great local beer, atmosphere and friendly people.
