Two friends and I booked into this hotel in March time, about 4 months before our stay, for one night to go to a concert. We arrived and the doors were locked. We knocked and some sort of "manager" came out and told us they had been "closed for renovations" since December. We later found out that it's a refugee holding. We hadn't received a refund, or been contacted in any way to be told that the hotel didn't actually exist anymore, so we were stranded 3 hours from home with no where to stay. This hotels embarrassing excuse for organisation meant that we could still book it 3 months after they had closed and they are STILL available to book through google, hotels.com and booking.com despite being completely closed to outside customers. We told this "manager" our frustration and anger and the complete lack of incompetence we had received, only to be told to leave with no help whatsoever to find a new place to stay. I strongly suggest that this pathetic justification for a hotel makes a conscious effort to practice some coordination as I would not wish this experience on anyone else.

I guess you get what you pay for!!!! To be honest we've stayed in worse hotels... What i wasn't expecting was a parking ticket for parking in the hotel carpark????? The car park was full when we arrived so was told to park in opposite carpark... Was told to move it in the morning... Which we did left the car in their carpark allday... 2 weeks later a letter arrived.... I originally thought it was for parking in the council run carpark opposite but it was actually for parking in the guest carpark!!!! Yeah go figure....when i questioned it i was told it was a major keying error on the hotels part as they hadn't put my correct registration number when we checked in!!!!! Do yourself a favour just leave this place well alone even if your desperate!!!! Absolutely scandalous!!!!

Arrived Saturday 3rd July a little bit apprehensive after reading the reviews on the way up in the car ! , should not have worried as from booking in to checking out everything was bang on !!, Free parking , room clean, nice and cozy , a decent shower & telly, a cracking location for the many pubs in town So can we just say a big thank you to Simon the manager and his staff especially Nathan who couldn’t do enough for the guest whilst we were there, Thank you Evening meal, wine / beer, full English breakfast for less than £50 is definitely a bargain to me, and we will be booking again for certain.

Arrived in evening. Very dirt room. Horrible smoke smell. Rude receptionist with glasses on. Not professional atal. Mould in bathroom. Dust everywhere. Wouldn’t even allow a animal to stay in this hotel. Noises all night. Windows don’t shut. Freezing room. Heater not working. No hot water. Never ever stay in this hotel. I seriously don’t know how it runs!!!!! Unbelievable!

We just needed a bed for the night and breakfast. Nicely situated a stone’s throw from the Piece Hall, it was only a one night stay but it was just what was needed. Decent size room - twin beds as requested. Tea and coffee provided and a clean bathroom with nice towels (always important). Breakfast was at our chosen time, and we asked for a vegetarian breakfast. It was just right and filling and set us up for the day. We also had choice of cereals and some continental breakfast options and as much coffee as we could fit in.With everything that is happening in this strange world of lock downs, the staff were pleasant and helpful. We’re coming back next year hopefully for a gig at the Piece Hall and plan to book with these guys again.

We stayed for 1 night dinner bed and breakfast. Food was tasty free drink with the meal. Friendliest staff for a UK hotel always happy to help and asking if your comfortable etc. Rooms were basic but clean and tidy. The hotel was lovely and quiet at night. Would recommend for a little getaway. We walked into town in 5 minutes so a perfect location. Thankyou

The "Restaurant" is a few tables in a smallish, pleasant enough room off the Bar.What is offered is a limited menu of basic commercial Bar Food. The fodder was mostly acceptable - the tempura prawns were the same dish as offered at other establishments, probably bought from the same catering wholesalers.Food has to be ordered and drinks collected from the Bar.When we were there it was impossible to eat and enjoy because the food was not that good and groups of loud elderly Coach Trippers used the Restaurant as an overflow from the Bar, not eating just destroying what little ambience the place had.So Pub Grub, without the robust produce and cooking of a good pub, and none of the atmosphere.

Close walking distance to Square Chapel Arts Centre and Piece Hall where we had planned to visit for birthday bookings and the Christmas gift market. The entrance was a little unprepossessing and the welcome at Reception a little disappointing. Also got a message last minute that we could not have the suite we booked due to a maintenance issue. The furniture in the room must have been recently painted as there was a strong smell of paint and no handles on the wardrobe doors. Free parking and standard breakfast. Would pay a bit more and up the standards another time rather than go for proximity.

On arrival the reseption was like a war zone, the poor receptionist had 7 check-ins at the same time, as well as serving food and working behined the bar. Someone was complaining about the shower not working, someone else was asking for a clean towl as the one he had was dirty. After 15 minuts waiting we checked in, and paid for the room for a family of 4. When we got into the room, it was freezing and thay was only 3 beds. My wife went to the reception to resolve the problem. I went into the bath room and found that they was hairs in the bath tub. This was the last straw for me. So i went to the reception, where i found my wife trying to convince the receptionist that we need another bed, we showed he the booking confirmation and she still said that we hadn't booked for 4.We aaked for our money back so we could go to another hotel, the receptionist said it is against company policy to give the money back, we sill left as the hotel was not worth 10p never mind £49.00 that we paid. I know this is a budget hotel, but they is no excuse for under staffing and general cleaning. I would avoid this hotel at all costs, if you are booking at this hotel dont pay untill you check the room first.

The hotel is seriously understaffed, with one member having to cope with reception, bar, and restaurant, which means that dinner service is very slow indeed. Bedroom was a good size, but had a very poor mattress, and the bathroom, while also large, had a jacuzzi bath which did not work. The dinner food was actually quite good, despite the slow service. However, the breakfast, held in a different dining room, was very poor. Tables were not laid, cutlery was of the cheapest I have known, hard scrambled eggs, flavourless sausages, soft hash browns etc., did not make a good start to the day. The only staff member on duty tried to be pleasant, but apparently did not speak English and could not service or replenish the coffee machine.after it had stopped. All in all, this was a very disappointing visit, and we shall not return.

Pre booked this hotel due to fantastic weekend offer,Only to find that it’s the ‘norm’Simon, the manager, and ALL his staff were so welcoming, was sure was part of ‘the family’.The room was furnished with a very comfortable double four poster bed, exceptionally cozy double seat leather settee and a jacuzzi (yes a jacuzzi). The all inclusive breakfasts and evening meal, were further proof that Wool Merchant Hotel is without doubt value for money - and minutes from Shibden Hall, for you aficionados of ‘Gentleman Jack’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This hotel is comfortable and freindly. The staff were great with loads of local information about where to eat and what to see. We liked the peace and quiet of the hotel which is about 5 mins walk from the town centre - just far enough to be calm and quiet - but easy walking distance to the centre. We even got a free welcome drink when we arrived. The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable - what more do you need?

Hotel has recently been refurbished, so must have listened to bad reviews, as we could not fault anything. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Restaurant is small, 8 tables, but nice and relaxed, with friendly service. Rooms basic but very clean with TV and tea/coffee making available. Breakfast room nicely refurbished, self service with plenty of choice, cereal, fruit, cakes, self service toaster, and the usual hot breakfast, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans etc. One note from previous reviews, no one asked for room No. or key to be shown. So relaxed and trusting. Enjoyed this hotel with friends for 3 nights, brilliant. 20 stall car park on site, 200 stall ,car park across road, free all night. Very quiet location, across from Minster, but close to centre. We couldn't fault it.

You get what you pay for. We booked through Travel Zoo and bought a good deal. Room was clean and functional. Breakfast was buffet self service. Reasonable quality and plenty of it. Hotel was like staying in a Formula 1 as reception was in the basement so you never saw any staff as entrance was on ground floor. Security was a concern as anyone could walk in to the bedroom areas and not be challenged. In fact anyone could have walked in and had a breakfast as no room numbers were asked for because the waitress could not speak English. Free car park, but on a first come basis. Other adjacent car parks free between 6pm-08:00.

This is my first Bad review, the only good thing I have to say is that the staff were lovely. I upgraded to a suite prior to arrival. The room smelt of sewerage, they clearly have major plumbing problems. We booked two nights B&B; and evening meals. The options for dinner were chicken fillet and chips, burger & chips, chicken burger & chips or pasta carbonara no vegetables or sides were offered. We ordered chicken fillet & chips and that is exactly what was on the plate. You cannot get a glass of wine or any alcohol in the restaurant- lol..... You have to go to the bar! The breakfast was even worse I have stayed in many different B&B;'s and hotels both with family and work but never have I come across a place like this. When we complained about the smell they sent a maintenance man to have a look at the problem he agreed the smell was awful and that it was coming from the bathroom. when you flushed the toilet you could see what you had flushed running under the shower tray as there was a large circular hole in it.Well what happened next beggars belief, the maintenance man left without letting us know what was happening I then went into the bathroom found that he ha gone and on the floor was the bath towel covered in what looked like human excrement that he had used! Needless to say we were extremely angry. we packed up out belongings and checked out. That was on the 23rd March this year. We did not stay the second night. I asked for our money back for the night that we did not stay I am still waiting. The location is excellent but I will never stay there again.

Stayed last weekend for a relaxing break. Hotel room spacious and clean. Bathroom clean apart from the shower curtain. Plenty of hot water and towels. It advertised a free drink on arrival this was not offered to us you must have to ask. Buffet style breakfast, hot and plenty of selection. The hotel staff very helpful and welcoming. Hotel very quiet in the night which enabled us to sleep. All round we enjoyed our stay it was central and handy for shops, bars and restaurants. We would definitely go back well with the money.

Stayed here as couple Saturday evening, the room was basic but spotlessly clean, bathroom was spotless but dated, though I did enjoy being able have a bath, so many hotels seem not have them . The style of the hotel is very confused, some areas very tired, some new fresh and contemporary, feels like you are in different venues as you wander through. Unsure if it is due to owners carrying out renovations in stages or is to remain confused. A comfy stay with an adequate breakfast

I booked this hotel to save haslle with taxis etc whilst bringing in the new year at an event in Piece Hall. Before I got there I was contacted via email saying my card details were incorrect. When I contacted to sort the 'mix up' I was informed that I had lost my original room and would have to be put in a single. No problem I replied as long as it was tidy with clean sheets. If only I had known!

Tasty, authentic hearty food. The lovely blue cheese and walnut salad accompanied the delicious pizza perfectly as we ony wanted something light. We also ordered the dough balls to start which came with delicious home made tomato sauce made from sun dried tomatoes and the obligatory garlic mayonnaise. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we shall definitely return to try the house wine which we hear is good.
