Woodthorpe Hotel in Bury

We booked the function room here for our wedding reception. All our guests commented on how excellent the food and service was. 47 people were served a 3 course meal where food was delicious, hot and served promptly. Gaynor, Gary and staff could not do enough for us. They made our wedding meal for our families absolutely perfect. As one guest commented "A 10 out of 10 wedding!". Recommended with 5 stars. Wonderful!

We booked a hot and cold buffet for 50+ people for family , relatives and guests for a Baptism. From booking, setting up the night before and the actual event we cannot thank the Woodthorpe Staff enough from reception through to the bar staff and Sue and the catering team. Everyone was helpful, , courteous and professional and the buffet itself was first class.The function room and the adjoining outdoor space were a delightful setting and we would certainly use again and recommend.

No mention of waiting time when ordering Sat for over an hour when others who came in after us being served same Sunday roast Use the place quite often Last time today I'm afraid

We had an overnight stay to attend a funeral our super king room was very nice, super comfy bed and spotlessly clean bathroom, linens etc. Good hospitality tray. My only criticism is that there was only one chair it's a lovely big room with plenty of space so a chair each would be nice. We had an evening meal which was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful

Stayed here last weekend. The room was comfortable, clean and presentable. The staff were pleasant on our arrival and gave us advice on public transport to get where we needed to go. Check in & out was simple. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

I came to the Woodthorpe for casual dinner with my one friend. Ordered food and the starter came 2 & half hours later with not one apology. We asked for our main to be taken away in a take away box as we didn’t have MORE time to wait around for the ‘dinner’. Service is dreadful, staff are too busy flirting with the gentlemen at the bar and not focusing on genuine people in the restaurant. Will not be returning and it is a shame as I live local.

Very much a hidden gem. Though I had been to The Woodthorpe Hotel previously for lunch on a few occasions, my recent visit was to stay overnight to attend a graduate award in Manchester. The food was as excellent as ever, with plenty of variety so that even the fussy eater is catered for. The beer was well kept, and if a Holt's Bitter is well kept, there is no finer pint. The rooms were lovely, tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed and a lovely bath/shower. The location is good, outside the city centre and next door to the wonderful Heaton Park. The only negative that I can mention is that there was no breakfast option available, but that it not a major issue as there are ;plenty of breakfast places in the vicinity. Will be staying again next time I am in Manchester and can highly recommend. 10/10

I have NEVER and I am 68 years old and my entire work life is Hospitality, had the absolute misfortune to even make a booking here. I came today with friends and family as my granddaughter had her communion, our booking was 2.30 pm, we finally got served after 2 hours, the children were ready to gnaw their own arm off they were sooo hungry asked the waitress multiple times when the children's meals were coming out as it was no longer lunch for them, it was now dinner, the staff were surly beyond belief, not a single "it will be out shortly" it was honestly, THE worst dining experience I have EVER had. I was that stupefied, I didn't know what to say, I wishing could even say it was worth the wait, but OMG, worse meal I have ever had in my life . Please everyone, money is SOOOO tight, do yourself a MASSIVE favour and avoid at all costs, I don't often make complaints about catering because this was my business, but honestly, go ANYWHERE else. The menu needs a complete over haul. It is boring with hardly any decent choice. Went for a brunch, the options were dreadful, small plates on offer, the selection was awful. They suggested we have the wraps, again the selection was dreadful and overpriced. We just wanted a light brunch. Not a heavy wrap. We had a drink then walked out, won’t be coming back again. Very disappointing and waste of a trip.

The Woodthorpe really seems to have gone down the drain in the last few months. Went for my Birthday meal, and had to wait an hour and a half to get our food from ordering. They said they were telling people there was a wait for food but that wasn’t the case. Think I’ll be avoiding the place in future which is a shame.

Really rude staff. Really bad customer service. It’s a real shame it’s a lovely building. Staff are just so rude and angry. Especially the woman with the long blonde hair. Saw three other different groups of customers be shocked at how rude she was to them. So including us that’s 4 in the time we were there (1 hour and a half) god knows how many other customers they were rude to that day.

A group of 9 of us have been going to the Woodthorpe once a month for about 3 years. However in November 2023 we had the misfortune to have contact with the landlady who was extremely rude and aggressive. It really spoiled our get together. Needless to say we have changed our monthly venue. In addition the mediocre food has become very expensive in comparison with other establishments.

We sues to come beee all the time before they management changed. I can’t explain how bad this landlady is. We haven’t been for about 3 years but tired again. Hoping it might be a new owner. But no. We were asked to leave around 7 O’clock for talking too loud. I didn’t even see her until that moment. It’s funny how horrendous she is. If you want horrific customer service experience. Save money on going to Karen’s. Just go to the woodthorpe 😂😂 Never again

We came for a birthday evening getaway with our terminally ill brother and we were looked after so well by staff. The place was cosy wetness the fire and radiators all on in this cold weather. There's a lovely gold and red Christmas tree that adorns the foyer. Claire and the staff made us feel welcome and reconfigure the chairs as to where our brother wanted to sit. We had to wait over 2 hours for a special taxi for wheelchairs and staff helped us too to ring around. Nothing was too much trouble.

Gorgeous food and a lovely experience every time. This is my favourite eatery in Prestwich and I travel from Swinton. It is a relaxed and welcoming environment, and l always feel comfortable getting a table here. Generous portions and tasty food. Highly recommend!

Came here for a wake after burying pur mum / grandmother / family member. Started to get served then they kicked us out over 1 family member being barred months ago over a personal past family issue, then laughed at us in out faces after knowing why we were here and had 0 compassion or respect for any of us who didn't know them to begin with. Awful rotten unfriendly staff. Good luck to their mothers having giving birth to disrespectful people like that to laugh at grieving people. Don't even deserve a rating let alone custom.

I ordered Beer Battered Fish and Chips at a cost of £13.95. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. There were very few chips and the batter on the fish was raw inside! Being with a large group of friends for a reunion, I didn't want to make a fuss so put in a complaint on the website when I got home. They still haven't bothered to reply to my 2 messages. This is terrible customer service. Even if the meal had been cooked properly, it would have been a lot to pay for fish and chips. I will not be eating there again and will not be recommending anybody else does.

Fantastic venue for a party. Buffet food was superb and lots of it. Staff friendly and went out of their way to help. Great value for money. Highly recommend.

I've been going to the Woodthorpe for about 15 years on and off. Its a decent place but the current Management team make me wonder why they work in hospitality - it's as if they do their best to make you feel unwelcome. They clearly have a decent social circle of friends that they invite to the pub and enjoy drinks with as the only time you'll ever see them crack a smile is when they are socialising. I suffer with a medical condition that means I have more trips to loo than normal. The Manager obviously thought I was partaking in the snorting of devils dandruff as he followed me into the loo on a couple of occasions to supervise me. The staff are genuinely lovely people and the place is well kept - it's just really uncomfortable in there as you get this overwhelming weird feeling that you're an unwelcome guest in the Gary and Gaynor's house.

RACE DAY!!!.....FANTASTIC. Love tis pub and management..so much so that I have followed them from different pubs as I know the service and standards will be high.My dad recently lost his brother and was asked my management if we fancied a race day leaving from here and we at first didn't fancy it....how gutted would we have been if we didn't.Gaynor and Gary thank you for a brilliant day and you gave my dad and I something to smile about which is exactly what he needed.In reading some of these reviews I had to write my own as I really can't believe some of the statements....it would seem in my experience that some folk just don't want to behave or have any rules in place.thanks one again for a day to remember and we will be in this week for a drink!
