Excellent place to go. All food ordered was of A* quality. Some of us had the Sunday lunch option, one had pizza and one had duck salad for main. Staff are lovely and we made sure we left about a 15% tip. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food.

Superb restaurant. An excellent meal this evening with my husband. He had the chicken teriyaki skewers - the chicken was melt in the mouth and the rice was delicious. I had the Woodpecker burger which was wonderful. The food was freshly prepared and we wish that we lived closer so that we could visit again. Our hostess was very pleasant and attentive even as the venue became busy. We don’t usually eat a sweet but having been so impressed with the main we ordered small ones - a lovely way to round off this brilliant experience . Thank you to everyone at the Woodpecker for starting our week in Scotland so fantastically.

We live nearby in Carluke, and my husband found this restaurant online. We visited tonight, and both enjoyed the two courses that we ordered. I particularly enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine after a couple of tough weeks at work. Service was great (we entered through the bar entrance by mistake, but staff were helpful directing us to the restaurant). The only tiny suggestion would be to give a mini pizza cutter with pizzas, but other than this, we both really enjoyed our experience, and we'll definitely visit again to try other dishes on the menu.

Came to lanimers for the first time In 8 years had and had a wonderful day then went for a few drinks in the evening at the newly renovated woody bar which was a nice set up then after a a few hours we got confronted off the girl who is supposed to be the “manager” who is an absolute disgrace and should never be working with the public if thats how she acts , it makes it even worse when i heard multiple people saying this at the time how she was so rude and un welcoming and had a face like fizz may i add , not the way i would want my staff to work/ run my buisness. So overall it was a great day and a nice hour or 2 in the pub beofre this happened, my advice would be to get bar staff , management who want to do the job and be happy in it or the pub will soon loose alot of customers!

Went to the Woodpecker last week for midweek dinner for the first time since covid. Restaurant was dead - we were the only table. Think a mid week set menu would help. Food was ok - fairly small portions, average taste - nothings tasted particularly fresh or seasonable & overpriced. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend.

Waited 30 mins for our drink order to be taken and 1 hr 50 mins before our main course arrived, despite it being not that busy. Told the delay was due to them waiting for some guests to arrive, who didn't, but noone approached us. Manageress has terrible attitude. Even charged us for late cancellation which came to £40 despite us spending £523. Main issue here was she didn't even tell us they were doing that, only saw it on receipt next morning (yes - my mistake). Went downstairs for drinks afterwards, only 2 bar staff. Massively understaffed. Left and went to the Cave. Food was decent and staff fine but manager let's place down.

Went to check out the woodpecker today to have a drink and check out the place to possibly book the venue for a birthday party . Went in at 3.40pm and was told by staff they are only serving food can't just do drinks. The place was dead they literally had 1 table of 4 people not one other customer to be seen anywhere. Puts me of from ever going back. In this climate they must be on top. To turn customers away is shocking customer service I would avoid this venue altogether if visiting lanark for food or drinks. Better off with a Greg's.

Booked a table for 2 we only wanted one course and was told we would have to wait a little longer for our meal, 55 minutes later our order arrived and it went downhill from there Main 1 cajun halumi skewers - halumi and vegetables ok bread the skewer was served on doughy and under cooked the chips served with it anemic and greasy Main 2 chicken& haggis balantine- chicken over cooked and dry, potatoes overpowered with butter whisky, sauce not very nice best part of the meal was the broccoli service - once our order was taken and our drinks served we were ignored until our meal arrived at no point were we asked how our meal was until we had to ask for the bill. when our server then asked how the food was when we told her not very good she mumbled an apology and brought the bill. Cost - nearly £40 for 2 mains 1 glass of wine and a soft drink , portions were not that large and for the standard of food well overpriced Would i recommend the Woodpecker NO will i return NO better food at better prices to be had else where in Lanark

We came here pre-Covid when we wanted a fancier night out. The menu has changed to more of a standard pub range, but the prices haven’t really dropped. The food was tasty and servers were professional, but unless someone came to the table to deliver a drink/course we didn’t get any attention. This resulted in some frustration and lost drinks revenue for the restaurant. A minor point: the crumble mix barely covered the pineapple, suggest 4 or 5 times the amount if you’re going to describe it as crumble on the menu. As this was £120 inc tip for 3 courses/2 drinks each for 2 people vs £85 for similar in Biggar we’ll be going elsewhere from now on. Best of luck to the team though, still wish you well!

Husband had the chicken burger and this was a massive bit of chicken and really nice , the onions that came on it were delish. The steak sandwich was a hit too and obvious dripping chips can’t go wrong , finished off with a crepe (banoffee) and tea and carrot cake. My hubby and I ate dinner at The Woodpecker last Friday night with his parents. We had the two courses for £22 set menu. The food was faultless - well presented, very tasty and seasonal. The haddock risotto & steak were particularly good. Value for money on the deal exceptional. However, there were a few service issues which let the food down. Firstly, service was slow. It was over an hour from us arriving at the restaurant to us getting our starters. It was over 40 mins between starters and mains. Now this was a Friday night but the maximum amount of tables that were in was 11 and most eating the set menu so no excuse for this length of time. Presumably the voucher deal is supposed to fill the restaurant at non peak times but due to the slow service we were there til 9.30pm so our table could not be turned over.We complained about the wait and were offered free drinks.I’ve noticed other reviews recently complaining about length of wait. If you cant speed up service then why not give tables free dip and crudités on arrival? (Cost the restaurant pennies and diners wont notice the wait). Secondly, there were four mains on the set menu but we were informed they had sold out of chicken which is fine but the only other white meat dish on the menu was pork at a £4 supplement. I’m not sure why this dish had a supplement as it was the smallest of the mains but when the chicken was sold out I would have expected the supplement to be waved.Third, we had a young male waiter. While I don’t doubt he is a lovely guy, he is not front of house material - way too shy. No smiles, no pleasantries and not attentive. At one point we had five empty glasses on our table (this was before our starters so we were ravenous and now without drinks) the waiter walked by the table numerous times before we actually had to shout him over for more drinks.Overall I would have reviewed this as 5/5 if the service matched the food. These issues could be rectified fairly easily. The food is so good I will definitely return to hopefully better service.

Couldn’t fault our visit and we’ll definitely be back.

We enjoyed two courses from the set menu in the Woodpecker. Both the smoked haddock risotto I chose as starter and the pig’s cheek on polenta with pea shoots main were stunningly good. My wife was pleased but not over impressed with her starter of BBQ chicken bits on a salsa verde that she found tasted of little other than salt. Her sea bass and chorizo main was nice but tiny and on a bean ragout which again, she found over salted. We both agreed that a portion of triple cooked chips with parmesan and a truffle oil dressing was superb. It was the highlight of my wife’s meal and perfectly complemented my dish of pig cheek - the polenta alone would have been inadequate. Thank you too for the service, which was friendly, obliging and efficient.

After following this restaurant on social media for some months, I was really excited to try it out. We live around an hour away but their Sunday roasts looked worth the trip, and we booked up one Sunday to make the journey and give it a go.It was very quiet when we arrived, and absolutely freezing cold. We asked for heating to be turned on as we were there with our two children, one being a baby, and the tables are also metal topped meaning they were also freezing cold. The staff member told us she’d turn the heat on, unfortunately after about 1/2 an hour there was zero difference in the temp and we asked to move table to underneath a heater. The (I presume) owner then proceeded to give a hugely long winded explanation about vents and holes in floors to try and justify the fact that the place was Baltic, we all had jackets on eating our dinner. Topped off by the fact that the food took forever, I won’t be back. Shame, as aesthetically it’s a lovely restaurant and would have huge potential but sadly didn’t live up to its hype.

For our wedding anniversary we decided to come from Biggar to somewhere different. The place was pretty empty but the service was incredibly slow. The couple at the table next to us were rather irate with the wait. We were an hour from arriving until we got our starters which were lovely. My husband then had a very nice burger but my guinea fowl was vile. Overcooked breast to the point of rubbery, undercooked skin/fat in the Kiev and greasy with dreadfully overcooked pomme Anna and greasy mushrooms. Despite asking the waitress to take it away, which she did without asking why, and then complaining, we were still charged full price and told "nobody else has ever complained". This was after the gentleman at the next table complained about overcooking the same dish 5 minutes previously and the gentleman behind me only ate half of his exact same dish! I wish we had stayed in Biggar and gone to the Barony!

We had taken advantage of the £19 deal. The first week I went with a friend who had never been before. After some time we got our starters, we then waited 2 hours for our mains, we even had to go and ask where they were! People at neighbouring tables were also waiting unacceptably long times and had to alert the waiting staff, at which point we were all offered a complimentary drink for the delay. There was clearly an issue in the kitchen but at no point did the management or waiting staff pre empt this with an explanation or apology. It was left to the customer to raise the issue. Not ideal. When the food did eventually arrive it was very good. The wine however was disappointing. A plus £20 price tag that on googling retailed for under £5! Fast forward to the following week, back again, service good, food disappointing.. on the menu it states that the steak is served pink. My husband and I ordered medium rare as did our friend. Our friend’s steak arrived perfectly cooked. Unfortunately there was not even a hint of pink in mine or my husbands steak. We sent them back and did then receive our steaks as we had requested them, only by this time our friends had finished their meal. On a plus point the red wine was very nice. I have to say that on both occasions the waiting staff were excellent. Just disappointing that the management didn’t give them more support on the first night when there was clearly an issue.

They have ruined a great dish. That dish was the reason we went there, so dont think we will be back. For Christmas season they were very quiet. They need a rethink. To charge city prices you need the drama and they have just lost it. Shame. Please go back to old ways of serving steaks then we will return.

Party of four attending Sunday evening show at Memorial Hall were disappointed to find the Pre-theatre meal was not available on a Sunday evening. We therefore had to choose from the a la carte ( several dishes of which were unavailable or in short supply). Given that, we each chose a main only. Whilst the food was good, service was slow, but the strangest moment was to come! To finish we ordered 4 Americano coffees with hot milk on the side for two. Waitress informed us ,after a short delay, that they had ran out of milk, so we suggested cream as a compromise- Sorry we've no cream either! Dinner didn’t get off to a great start last night. Surprised to be told that there was limited availability and substitutions on menu. Not great planning for a earlyish Saturday night booking. Ordered chicken only to be told after about 10 minutes none left! I ended up with the very last fillet steak that one of my dining companions had ordered but kindly let me have as nothing else suited. The mains were mediocre at best. My daughters mash potato was served stone cold and only replaced once she’d finished her meal. The dessert menu had one item not available. On recommendation of the waitress we all ordered the chocolate soufflé. It came crispy on the outside and mine was totally raw inside. Disgusting! My wife & I visited late on a on Sunday afternoon and were greeted and seated by a very friendly and smart waitress. The drinks arrived promptly and then we ordered bread and olives and then the lamb and the pork belly. The focaccia bread was very good as was the sour dough, the olives topped with salt and candied orange peel were brilliant. The Chef, Attila, bakes the bread and prepares the olives from scratch too. The lamb was simply delicious, tender and moist and a generous size too. The pork belly was even better, I cannot remember the last time I smiled when I ate something. It's not cheap, but then nothing that tastes this good should be; save up if you have to but just go, you won't be dissapointed. Oh and the handmade chocolates at the end were inspired. Congratulations to Attila and his team in the kitchen and to the owners and girls out front. Keep up the good work, it's about time we had somewhere this good to eat round here. I visited with a friend for dinner on Friday night. The decor is lovely and it has a relaxed atmosphere with a bit of sophistication. I enjoyed all 3 courses thoroughly and actually found it difficult to decide what to have as the menu was so appealing. I like the touches of an amouse bouche to begin and chocolates at the end. The wine we selected was beautiful and very reasonably priced. Waiting staff were very professional and friendly. This was my first visit and I will definitely return asap. I was apprehensive after reading reviews prior to going but I do not understand all the comments about portion size! They are perfect for fine dining quality food and you leave full and satisfied rather than skipping dessert as you are so full like some other places in Lanark. And dessert should not be missed-best chocolate fondant I have ever had!

Visited this restaurant with a group of friends. On looking at the menu beforehand, I found that the dishes on offer were a wee bit too fussy for my palette. I am not vegetarian, but don’t eat a lot of meat and don’t like fish. I phoned the restaurant on the Friday evening before our pending visit on the Sunday and asked if the chef could put together a cheese omelette for my visit. The phone was passed to the owner and I explained that I was a plain eater, and would it possible that a cheese omelette could be prepared for my visit. I obviously upset him, by saying that the menu was too fussy for me. I explained that I didn’t eat a lot of meat, and didn’t like fish. At this point, he suggested the Sunday roast!! I explained once again. He asked how many were attending and I replied seven adults. I got the impression that if I stated 2 or 3, he would have suggested cancelling it. At the end of the conversation, he asked that no one else from the party to phone ahead and ask for something different from the menu, as his chef likes to cook the same thing. On arriving, we were met by lovely staff, who handed over the menus and confirmed that the Sunday roast was off the menu, as it was finished at lunchtime!! Anyway, the cheese omelette was produced and I couldn’t fault it. I had the chunky chips with a side dish of salad to accompany it. This is where it leaves a bad taste in my mouth ..... I was charged over £16.00 for this! This was my first visit and will certainly be my last. Fancy dishes with very fancy prices!

We have been to the Woodpecker several times - and this was another great dining experience. We had delicious food, and the service team (and owner!) were really chatty and friendly without invading our space. We ate delicious food at a leisurely pace (those who only seem to want a fast food experience will have the opportunity to rediscover the art of conversation!!). This wasn't a celebration for us - but it felt like an occasion in the classy environment. The prosecco was served with a raspberry in the glass, the wine was delicious and the food.... It was beautiful to look at and amazing to eat! Photos don't do the meal justice, you just have to go... My other half had a bit of a mis-fire in his main course order - his interpretation of what "open lasagne" is was not shared by the chef. Tasty though! Choc fondant pudding sent my mum into heaven - and the cheese board was as excellent as ever. Thank you!

After reading reviews decided on this restaurant for my birthday lunch. This establishment is trying to be fine dining on the back end of a pub. .Overpriced with meagre portions. The menu was more for autumn /winter rather than spring ..I could have had a 3 course lunch at Tom Kitchin's for less than what was asked for here. What food we received was tasty although lukewarm. Will Not be returning ..The waitress was lovely However does the chef not realise the patrons could see him ducking in and out of the back door on a regular basis ????? Was also not impressed by the fact that 2 vegetarian meals were pulled with no replacements...despite at booking informed that one guest was vegetarian and to top it all the milk for her tea was off!!!!!

Visited this lovely restaurant with friends. Highly recommend this amazing restaurant. The steak was first class and side dishes tasted amazing. I absolutely loved the skinny fries with truffle and parmesan. The drinks menu had lots of choice with a mixture of wines, spirits and cocktails. Anyone looking for good food with a nice atmosphere give this place a try.

Visited twice . Will not be going back. Sent food back both times. We eat out most weeks and there are better places than this . Up market food descriptions. The idea is good but the end result is not up to the mark.

Worst service I've had in a long time. Arrived at 8pm, waited politely until 8:30pm to even be asked for a drink, at which point my partner went to the bar to try and get once himself.

Visited here on Saturday night. Restaurant was very busy and beautifully decorated however we found service extremely slow. We had to wait to look at the menus as they had ran out - waited about 20 mins on our drinks also. We went for burgers and steaks. The burgers were nice however it is not clear from the menu that all items listed (bacon, cheese, salad etc) do not actually come with the burger as standard and you need to ask for them. The music was quite loud and one of the waitresses actually said to one of my friends when bringing the meal to us "Your gonna have to speak up I cant hear a word you are saying" before putting the meal down in front of her, her attitude was not great. One of the girls at the table is pregnant and asked for her steak medium well - it came out pink on the inside (not supposed to eat not fully cooked meat when pregnant). One of the waitresses noticed this and said it would be fedback to chef. Offered a free dessert. Speaking of dessert there was not alot of choice. I understand its "fine dining" but the desserts were a let down. I dont think i would rush back in a hurry down to these things.

What can I say. Dinner was fabulous. Lovely a la carte menu. Great, friendly service. I had the braised beef cheeks for my main. It just fell apart. Amazing. As a party of four we were all impressed. I can't understand people complaining about portion size. Everything hit the mark. We will definitely be back.

We visited her as a party of 8 adults and 7 kids last Saturday at 5.30pm. We were seated at 2 long tables which was excellent. However, the service was very slow, it seemed to take an age for the drinks to be poured and served. It wasn't for the lack of staff, it just seemed very inefficient. It took a while to catch eye contact for us to order more drinks and even then it seemed that only those that shouted loudest got another drink. The service did improve during the meal but i'll have more to say on that later. Our food was excellent. The special Valentines menu didn't float my boat but the normal menu ticked all the boxes with plenty of choice including steaks, pigeon, fish, burgers etc etc etc.I had black pudding to start and a burger for main course and couldn't fault it at all. However, the service was once again in question. It was 1 plate out of the kitchen at a time. There was a gentleman who I can only assume was the owner or manager - I'll refer to him as The Big Man. He seemed to hinder the staff. I'm not sure if they were intimidated by him or felt under added pressure but he didn't help at all. At one point coming out of the kitchen empty handed, walking the length of the restaurant, very very briefly engaging a member of staff and then going back into the kitchen. A few minutes later he was carrying a very small pot (with a spoon that was too big to sit in the pot) as if it was molten metal. Turns out it was rock salt. There was no salt and pepper on the table and we had to ask for it as well. Big Man, if you are Front of House, then engage with the staff, otherwise i'd suggest you keep out of the way and, if you trust the staff, let them get on with their jobs. The restaurant was clean and tidy as were the toilets although a sign saying the toilets are upstairs would help. Maybe there is and we all just missed it. I'd definitely try The Woodpecker again and hopefully the service would be a bit quicker and more attentive and The Big Man would keep out of the way.

A nice stylish setting, some neat touches (heated bread basket etc) and the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was not up to the same standard though. Firstly, the bread and tapenades pre-starter are outrageously overpriced. The starters we ordered were fine but the main courses were of poor portion size and the cod in particular was one the blandest dishes I have ever tasted.

My daughter had visited this restaurant last year and enjoyed the experience. So much so she bought my wife and I a voucher as a Christmas present. We visited on Friday night (8/2/19) and although the service and food were very good I have a few reservations. The food was very good but it is not often I leave a restaurant after 3 courses feeling that I could still eat something. The portions were very small. I was most disappointed with my dessert, Apple Pie and Ice cream with a fancy name but one of my favourites, so I ordered. I was presented with a plate with around 12 apple slices in a watery sauce with a small ball of ice cream no pie as such, cost £6.95. This seemed to sum up my experience.

We were surprised but delighted to get a table without booking today. Great service, innovative, well presented modern food. Complimentary mulled wine to start and wee mince pies to end just rounded things off nicely.

Lovely decor and friendly waiting staff. Well thought out menu, which although short, had more than enough choice for everyone. Beautifully presented, well cooked food. The only disappointment was the Roquefort soufflé which, although it tasted great, hadn’t risen and was quite dense. All our other dishes were perfect. The waiting staff could have been a bit more attentive, (we had to ask for the desert menu half an hour after we requested a short rest before desert, and the side dish we ordered was forgotten and didn’t appear until half way through our meal) but these were small irritations in an evening which overall was excellent. Nice wine list and the cocktail menu was varied and great value. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for an elegant evening out

Go now while it’s getting established, because once word of mouth spreads this place will be booked out for weeks in advance! Astonishingly good food, you’d normally pay double these prices for this level of quality. This is the only restaurant in South Lanarkshire that we’ve wanted to go to twice in one month, and we’ll be back for more.

Perhaps our expectations were too high but we were left at a loss after our dining experience. Food falls well short of the colourful descriptions in the menu and that provided by the owners. Very pleasant waiting staff but owners and management would do well to listen to customers comments rather than go on the defensive.

Visited on a surprisingly quiet Sunday. Given the great reviews this place has had we expected it to be busy and had booked ahead. Turned out this was not necessary. Service was good if slightly patchy given we were the only diners. Food was well worth the trip. Starters of smashed black pudding with poached egg and home made mackerel pate with brioche toast were followed by beautifully cooked venison, a well presented sea bass and an enormous roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings. All delicious. Not the cheapest place to eat Sunday Lunch but definitely worth a visit.

Mum and I had heard good reports so popped in for late lunch. Decor beautiful and spotlessly clean. Greeting was lovely and friendly. We both opted for the Sunday lunch, one beef one chicken. It was delicious, well presented and decent portions. (max the dog loved the left over beef they gave mum!) Staff (owner and Scottish Aussie girl) were so friendly and chatty. Will certainly be back to try the main menu!

Second visit here & was another amazing meal. We had the fish & chips, ‘boring’ burger & chips, maple & garlic siracha chicken gyros & southern poutine loaded fries. Everything was cooked well, tasted amazing, well presented & we didn’t wait long for food to arrive. Service was excellent, waitresses are lovely. Didn’t have any alcohol this time but cocktail menu looks amazing! Restaurant is really well decorated with lots of unique features & there was a great, buzzing atmosphere. Forgot to get photos of the food, was too excited to eat it!

So 1st and last time visitor ! Was recommended to me so made a trip for lunch. Ordered soup which both came luke warm so requested that they be warmed up to eating temperature. Take 2 on return one was slightly warmer the other still luke warm. As am not one for take 3 spoke with staff to ask if I could pay as decided to go elsewhere, no charge (not eaten) but the soup "apparently" take a while to heat !! Offered to heat "again" but thought after 2 attempts, not. It should be good to go from the off otherwise why serve cool soup. A less than satisfactory experience and to be honest not a great ambiance, my wife thought seating was uncomfortable. Sorry but that's how we found the place 😐
