So we decided after going for a drive to stop, on a Sunday , and I really wasn't expecting much just a pub meal. Let me tell you the Sunday roast beef I ate last Sunday was the best I've ever ate out, anywhere. There was that much succulent beef I, for the first time in my life left some, the gravy and vegetables were amazing and you get loads a plate full and then a trivet of seasonal on the side with a gravy boat (finally somewhere that doesn't skimp on gravy) my missus opted for the haddock (catch of the day) it was oval plate size, huge, successful win there as she shared it was delicious. This will be our go to Sunday dining experience. Tip though it's busy so book and enjoy !

Never been before so was looking forward to trying it. Was very impressed at the outdoor spaces and imagine it would be a lovely place to go for drinks in the summer. The ambience inside was lovely too, very warm with a nice buzz. We ordered Sunday lunches and I opted for lamb shoulder, but was disappointed with the meat. Honestly didn’t taste like lamb and I left most of it. Two of my party had to ask for their lunches to be heated up. Was a real shame as it kind of spoiled what was otherwise a lovely afternoon.

We have been here a couple of times before and always enjoyed it, we visited again on Friday night for a family wedding reception and it was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the venue looked great, the only thing that let it down was the price of the drinks. As I was driving I decided to have a pint shandy which was nice but definitely not worth the £6 I paid for it. It has really put me off returning.

Popped in today for an impromptu lunch, not been for a while and wasn't sure if we would get a seat but we went in and were greeted by a nice friendly man who showed us to a table. A young man came over with the menus and asked us what drinks we would like we then ordered our food, I had lamb Sunday roast and hubby had fish and chips. The food was lovely but hubby said he would have liked a few more peas, my Sunday lunch was lovely, the lamb was so tasty, but the veg was a bit cooler than I would have liked but the gravy warmed it up. We both had maple & pecan cheesecake which was delicious. We would recommend and will be back. The staff were lovely and the service was spot on.

Very disappointed, went for a special birthday I especially chose the woodmans becuase we were taking my young grandson with us and the tables with the full length windows are great for him to look out and entertain him, I appreciate we did not reserve a table but we were allocated a table at the entrance immediately by the kitchen, we asked if they could possibly give us a table away from there with having the little one but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate, which was very disappointing as the whole time we were there no one sat at the window seat in the corner 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ food actually wasn’t great either, menu is very expensive and quite limited, the straw that broke the camels back for me was when the waiter asked if we could keep our grandson out of the way as he would be carrying hot food past our table “ why allocate that table with a young child” especially when there was other tables available the duration of our time there, also when we had requested to be moved for that reason in the first place. Won’t be returning unfortunately or recommending.

We returned to this place after a couple of years and were severely dissapointed. I ordered the ribs which said they were served with slaw, not mentioning anything else. I checked and they came with fries too but I assumed slaw was a feature. Checked for real ales and there were none, the beers were dissapointing all round. The ribs turn up and they are luke warm, fatty and covered in a fairly tasteless sauce. The slaw was a tiny arrangement of some red cabbage in mayo with some pickled carrot on top, to call it a garnish would have been generous. It was cabbage flavoured, no seasoning, nothing else like onion or anything to jazz it up, just cabbage and some mayo. The fries were standard, I asked for mayo, I got what I assume was low fat mayo or some cheap brand. It was tasteless too. I have to say, all of the staff were very apologetic and keen to offer more ribs or a free desert but I did not really want either, the moment had passed. My complaint of this place quite frankly is that those meals should not have left the pass! My wife's chicken Satay was equally bland and luke warm in all respects. Just totally uninspiring for what was a fantastic gastro pub a couple of years ago. We won't bother going back.

Second time I’ve looked at the reviews on tripadvisor before visiting a venue and nearly cancelled but went with my gut and been happy. 2 adults and 2 teenagers, We shared their 24oz club steak which was beautiful and the kids had a hawaiian pizza and a burger we had a garlic bread and a side of tender steam broccoli then the kids finished off with the cookie dough and ice-cream each (4 spoons) Bill included 4 large soft drinks one white wine and a pint of lager and a bottle of Red wine, bill was £198 great value for great food and great service and great venue 👏👏

Came here with a friend as it is local to the both of us. We have both been here before but not for a while so decided to give it a try. We sat outside and found our own menus as no staff really come outside, we went to the bar to place our order and we’re told to get our own cutlery and napkins. We were then asked to pick our sauces now before the meal comes… thought this was strange but went with it anyways. The food come and it was very poor if I’m honest, I got a meat feast pizza and it was so hard to cut, all of the toppings just fell off and there was a thick layer of cheese which was only just melted slightly. It was extremely greasy/oily. Had to eat it with a knife and fork it was so tough, probably one of the worst pizzas I’ve had. My friend got a salad, very basic and nothing special. We then sat inside and got a hot drink to warn up, the hot drink was actually cold, not even lukewarm so we sent that back and received another. Overall I wouldn’t return again, the prices were ridiculously high for poor quality food and the service was also poor, despite the place being empty.

We took our drinks outside as it was actually not raining and again the table was filthy, covered in bird poop and and spilt drinks. I had heard so many good things about this place and I was so disappointed in the food. Beautiful building and ambiance. The service was slow but polite, There was a wedding going on at the pavilion adjacent to the pub so I'm guessing that's why it was slow. Ordered the heritage beets which were supposed to have goat cheese and walnuts, but there were just greens and the beautiful beets with no dressing. I ordered the ocean fish catch of the day and while the fish was amazing. The sauce did not compliment it well, very heavy and iverpowerinh. The potato / root compote underneath the fish just didn't go flavorwise with the fish. Also, the road is absolutely hazardous to pull out onto, That road is quite dangerous anyway, but with the angle and no way to see oncoming cars, I had to hold my breath and just go.

First visit here for an evening meal with my wife. Quite a large place in a nice setting with plenty of outdoor seating. We were seated quickly to our pre-booked table and our drinks order taken whilst we viewed the menu. I ordered steak and ale pie with chips, peas and gravy, my wife, ribs and belly pork with fries. Food arrived quickly, I thoroughly enjoyed my pie n chips but my wife's ribs/belly pork and fries were a little underwhelming. Unfortunately it went downhill with the service from here as nobody bothered to ask if our meal was OK or if we would like any more drinks. I eventually caught the attention of another server and ordered another drink and asked for the dessert menu. Over 5 minutes later we were still waiting, I eventually got the attention of our first server and told her we were still waiting for our drink/dessert menu. She promptly brought these and we both ordered sticky toffee pudding which was delicious. I will probably try here again at a later date and hopefully my experience will be better. 🤞

This is a very nice food lead pub. It's got a very cosy atmosphere with a couple of wood burning stoves making it toasty warm. A very pleasant change for these days. The food is nicely cooked and presented. There isn't a fantastic choice of drinks for anyone who likes a pint, with no real ales at all. What they do have is a quite unpleasant stout, (not Guinness) and a couple of craft beers. Not trying to be a drinkers pub. Accommodation wise, there are 5 "suites"! However, the room that I stayed in would struggle to be called a double room, it was tiny. My suitcase had to be closed up and stood upright at the side of the bed, it was that small. This place is also not meant for staying away on business, as the breakfast wasn't served until 9am until 10am, meaning I had to miss my breakfast on the first morning. I did have breakfast on the second morning and it was very nice. Also, "we don't have the facility to charge food or drink to your room", meaning you had to pay for everything as you went. All in all, a pleasant visit, but not good for business travel.

Service is usually a little slow here, however the food is normally delicious so we don’t mind and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately, last night we were left waiting 15 mins without being offered a drink. For us this is an unacceptable wait for a drink - I don’t mind waiting for food but I think the bare minimum is to be offered a drink straight away. Once we had our drink and had ordered food it came quickly. The food is normally delicious, but last night sadly my pizza was burnt on one side and the base was way too thick compared to normal. We have always seen the Woodmans as a 'bit of a treat' so we booked it well in advance for New Years Eve. We were excited all day about our family meal (we have two little ones) and even got dressed up for the occasion. When we booked it, we checked the menu and were of the understanding that it was the main menu which we know from a previous experience is nice. However, we arrived and sat down to be told that it was the Sunday roast menu only. It had one non roast option! We would never have booked if this was the case. We asked if there were other options and were told no. We were then told by our server (who was polite and professional) that the main menu is normally available from 5pm. She checked with her manager and then returned to say that it would be roasts for the 'foreseeable'. So there wasn't even a clear message. So it was a roast or nothing. We opted for nothing. We had to stay and have a drink as the kids needed food otherwise we would have walked out. We debated for some time as to whether it was our mistake but then overhead two other families asking the same question and receiving the same disappointing answer. I can only assume there was an issue with staffing the kitchen as to advertise one thing and then deliver another is only going to upset customers. Either that, or it's a shockingly bad management decision. 2 stars as the drinks were fine and the girl serving us was polite and professional. P.S. they then brought the wrong kids meal! We only ordered one meal and they got it wrong. P.P.S. the wife tried to order a prawn cocktail starter to nibble on and they didn't have any left. A bad showing and we won't go back.

To the left, there is a wonderful display dedicated to the Chronicles of Narnia books, definitely worth 5 minutes of your time to look at (Not sure if this is Christmas based so may be temporary) Service was friendly and quick, and I was even advised that my steak, leek and guiness pie could take 30 minutes (due to cooking fresh) and it arrived quicker than expected, and still tasted delicious! It was reasonably priced for what you get as and the location is quiet and remote. Definitely coming back again!

Absolutely awesome time, with amazing food and staff. The atmosphere was very welcoming and consistently friendly. We will definitely be back. P.s. Christmas decorations that are better than Fenwicks window.

Great place to eat out away from the hassle and bussle. Also, cater for GF needs Great decor all year round with friendly service, warming, cosy environment, and fab food choices. 😀 👌 If your travelling far, and want to make a night of it, you can take a chance to snap up one of the 5 awesome bridal suits ( if they are not already being used for a wedding). Haven't had a chance to stay there yet, maybe one night!

Lovely food, friendly staff and lovely setting. Very beautiful place. Drinks are terrible though, the vodka cocktail that costs £9.50 was shoved in a glass with froth coming over the side and tasted awful, not even served with a straw. The white wine was also absolutely awful. We were brought another tables drinks which caused confusion and then I assume because of this, we were over charged for drinks but this was sorted out. Waiting staff were friendly about it though. Its lovely but for the prices charged I probably wouldn't come here if I was planning to have alcohol with my food.

Myself, my daughter and 2 of our friends visited the woodsman’s arms on the evening of Tuesday the 19th of December, to have what we class as our Christmas night out. I absolutely cannot fault the food, it was as usual, delicious. What I do take offence with, is the fact that our server came over at about 9.30, after we had finished our meals and desserts, to say that last orders was being called soon and did we want anything else, we said no as we still had drinks on the table, he then came back a couple of minutes later to ask, or should I say tell us, he was bringing our bill over, he then came over a few minutes later to again “tell us” he was bringing the card machine over. In short it felt like we were basically being thrown out. I didn’t say anything at the time because I think I was a little blindsided by our treatment and thought perhaps I was being a little sensitive, but in hindsight and after speaking to the people I was with, I don’t think I was, and the fact we were sitting in the car ready to leave at 9.56pm kind of proved my point to me, in fact I had to check my ring doorbell to make sure I wasn’t wrong about the time I arrived home. I’m not even angry, I just feel really sad and flat about the whole evening, it was a rubbish thing to do and a terrible way to treat people. I love the woodsman’s arms, it’s a beautiful place with amazing food, but I won’t be going back, and I’m doubtful whether the people I’m was with will either.

Went as a party of 11 people, this was a Sunday lunch menu and the booking was made several weeks before. The Narnia setting for Christmas was a good touch, staff were very good, and that’s about it for positives, the food was no more than average, some of the party got wild mushroom on sourdough toast, toast was so tough many left it, the main course was what I would expect from any standard pub lunch. Nothing spectacular, but nothing really negative either. Then came the dessert menu, a few of the party had opted for a main course and dessert as opposed to starters, so after browsing the many options for dessert it was a disappointment to be told there are no desserts apart from ice cream ! What restaurant does not ensure it has enough food for a pre-booked party of guests ? The final disappointment was the environment, the venue was so hot it was uncomfortable to the point people were having to go outside for cool air, other parties were also complaining of this. Staff at the bar had electric fans aimed to cool the staff down. Overall a rating of 2 stars on the basis the table staff were pleasant, otherwise nothing special and not worth the drive out to this place.

Visited here on a business night, however it's always my go to place. Amazing service, amazing food and great atmosphere. Slightly out the way but it just adds the charm to it. Definitely worth a visit if you've never been before.

We just called in for coffee and cake and to see Narnia... loved that. We were seated in cosy armchairs next to a log burner and given the dessert menu. It took a while to be served (couldn't see if the restaurant was busy) but when the desserts came they were absolutely delicious.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, so pleased we finally got to go. What a beautiful place. We got there at 4 on a Thursday afternoon and it was really quiet so got seated quickly. We sat next to the log fire which was lush for a freezing day. The Christmas decorations were lovely and the food was top notch!!! The waitress serving us was soon lovely, it was her last day before maternity and instead of rushing us around or being impatient (which to be fair being heavily pregnant and being on your feet all day We wouldn't of blamed he) she was attentive, friendly, friendly and nothing was too much bother. The food was DELICIOUS!!! Definitely won't be the last time we go. The variety of food was great from home comforts like fish pie and lamb chops to Asian style meals to something a bit different like the venison ragu. Highly recommend!!!

Best meal I've had in donkeys. The pregnant lady that was serving us was an absolute diamond and I wish her all the luck in the world. Décor was beautiful. Only thing wrong was the pizza could have in the flames a bit longer

A catch up of what we’d done and where’d we’d been during the school holidays was needed before getting back into the swing at school. Two of us chose the fish meal deal (would have been too expensive otherwise in our opinions), it was huge and white flaky fish. Meals and drinks were I think a bit overpriced in general but good quality, good service and an iconic building.

While my daughter shopped I popped in here for an oat milk latte and was served by a woman who to be honest looked like she didn’t want to be there. I paid for my drink and waited patiently, the lady who was making the drink said it was ready. I politely asked if it was the oat milk latte and the woman who had taken my order barked at me that’s not what you ordered. I explained I ordered an oat latte and she snapped at me, that’s not what you asked for with a very stern look. I explained I don’t drink milk and I wouldn’t have asked for anything other than what I ordered. The lady then demanded another 60p from me which I proceeded to pay. I could see the woman who was making the drink was rather embarrassed and said it was ok to me. I won’t be returning here to be spoken too like that and she needs to learn some manner and put a smile on her face. Extremely disappointed .
