We just went in for a meal, we hadn't booked so there were just a high table available, had I viewed the menu before going we would possibly have gone somewhere else. The food was good and the place was nice but there wasn't a lot on the menu that we would choose.

Parents 60th Wedding Anniversary meal with the family. Food was fantastic, staff were lovely, private dining was brilliant and great value. Would 100% go back. Loved it

Great location, plenty parking, very attentive and professional service. Food was also excellent. Slightly more expensive than others, but definitely worth a trip for a meal. Make sure you book a table, as showed once before without a booking and they could seat us.

Used to eat here all the time. Went in with high expectations. Decor has changed and looks slightly better. Service was definstly lacking and food was sub par. Small serving and dessert was warm in places. Disappointed.

Disappointing second visit. Staff were lovely and efficient but the food this time was sadly underwheming. Hardly any fish in the batter and not much taste. We thought we'd try a pudding but the cheesecake had no flavour. We had visited last month for the pie and ribs, which were delicious that day but lack of staff then made for a long wait. We may try for third time lucky hoping that food taste and service can combine for a great experience.

My husband had read and heard good things about the Woodmans Arms and the award winning pies. As a surprise treat we made a family round trip of 70 miles so he could have the Steak pie. Unfortunately they have replaced the Steak with beef bourginon so he opted for that. The good parts of our visit. Staff are excellent, attentive and polite. The restaurant has a huge car park and quirky interior and exterior. Toilets were excellent. The children eat a 3 course meal for £1 each when dining with an adult which is excellent. There is a decent choice on the menu for food and drinks. The pizzas are cooked in a log fire. There’s plenty of space and types of tables, booths and chairs. The adult pizzas, were both finished off, the two adult burgers were huge and tasty. Chips that came with adult meals were chunky. The waiter produced a lovely little surprise cake for my husband at the end of the meal. Downsides, the entry road is badly potholed. One of our grandchildren thought the chips were bitty. Unfortunately the pie (you need to give 30 minute notice for them) was a bit soggy bottomed however there was sufficient beef in it. The prices are quite steep so for us as a family we’d visit only for a very special occasion. A solid 4 out of 5.

We came here for Sunday lunch. Nice ambience, food was fine. But nothing to write home about - Average. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. Our friends arrived 15 minutes earlier and sat down at the table, yet, no one came over to ask them if they wanted a drink. When my partner and I arrived, we had to be proactive to ask for waiter/waitress's attention. Bear in mind, they had lots of staff working on the day, so I don't think the issue is with the number of staff, but there was no organisation whatsosver. Simply, the waiter/waitress can work wherever they want, as they were not assigned to a section of the restaurant. It even took them 15 minutes from providing us with the bill to bringing the card machine over. Nobody knew we got the bill, and yet again, we had to ask to bring the card machine over.

Lovely staff, amazing food, great atmosphere

We eat here regularly on a Sunday, and it is usually very nice, however, we had a Mother's Day meal, which was later in the day and the quality of the food was a huge drop off from their usual standards (which is why I haven't given it 1 star only), The Prawn Cocktail starters were very bland and freezing cold, and the potato skins were overdone and too salty, these went uneaten for the most part. Main was a lot better, with only the Roast potatoes seeming very dry like they'd maybe been sat for a while or heated up again before serving, and we couldn't eat them as a result. We will probably eat there again, but we wouldn't book a late sitting as a result of the drop off in quality.

Visited for our usual Sunday Roast Dinner on Mothers Day and was bitterly disappointed. The starter of soup was very bland and lacked any taste, it was lukewarm at best at £7 so disappointing. The Lamb dinner was alright but again cold and barely lukewarm. Got the impression kitchen staff had prepared food on Saturday and were warming up in microwave. So disappointing £66 for two people for two course meal only, will not be going back anytime soon.

FOOD is always top notch. But noticed the portion size is getting less and price is high end. This is the first time I’ve come away still hungry. Two meat, two Yorkshire, and pigs in blankets extra with a desert should fill anyone never mind a 13 stone wet 3 year old. Even an extra potato would have helped. Get it together please, yours foods to nice not to come back x

The decor is a bit of an acquired taste but it does make the place cozy which would otherwise just be a barn. Service was simply amazing. Prompt and helpful, friendly yet unobtrusive. The menu is not huge and you can find plenty cheaper in this area. But what we had was delicious and generous portions. Has a high end feel and great food so the slightly higher than average prices felt well justified. Beautiful location and lots of outdoor space so definitely a destination for summer evenings. Only downer is the amount of pretty serious potholes in the carpark.

My favourite place ever to go eat! I am constantly raving about it with my friends, family, and colleagues. Amazing during the week and for a roast on a Sunday, have had pretty much everything off their menu. Steak and Guinness pie 10/10, lamb rump 10/10 (but don’t think they do this anymore 😢), fish and chips 10/10, fillet steak 10/10, and especially their Sunday roasts are to die for!!!! Been served by so many different waiters/waitresses here and love them all. Can’t wait to come back here soon. Word of warning - lots of potholes in car park so be super careful!!

To be very honest, I wasn't expecting to enjoy the visit, but I can say I was glad to be proven wrong. Lovely pub and great atmosphere and amazing food (even my wife found something she liked, I was gob smacked) couldn't recommend it enough. Enjoy.

Beautifully decorated pub/restaurant

Taken here for my special birthday. Lovely Sunday roast apart from being served frozen cauliflower cheese. Cauliflower undercooked. Rest of meal was delicious as was dessert. However, the place was freezing cold. No heating on apart from a fire which we were nowhere near, & it was a really cold day. Although told about it, nothing was done about it. Not really pleasant!

Would give it 6 stars if I could. Booked a table for valentines day, with a special request for a bouquet of flowers for the table, which they provided for FREE. Service from all staff was amazing, sat us down early, food was quick and absolutely outstanding. Steak melted in the mouth and the cookie dough was freshly prepared, honestly don't know how it was so cheap. The venue was all decorated especially for valentines day and even if it wasn't, the restaurant is beautiful. Will 100% be going back, highly recommend if you haven't been already, you won't regret it.

It's a pub. It serves food. Sunday lunch was good, not outstanding. I was expecting more after reading 'Newcastle Foodie' (Facebook) reviews. Service was annoyingly patchy. We were asked if ready to order about 5 times by various staff. Once ready there was no one around to take our order. When he did, the waiter seemed put out that we were only ordering main courses. Similar thing with the bill, once received we had to wait to pay. We were near to a fire which wasnt looked after and went out. Also, there was quite a 'breeze' where I was sat as lots of staff passed by behind me. There are some lovely views from some tables, sadly ours wasn't one of them. I'd like to try an award winning pie, but wont be rushing back.

Most amazing night away celebrating our engagement and to look round the wedding venue. Staff were absolutely incredible and treated us like royalty, can’t recommend this place enough.

Dining in this beautiful restaurant the interiors are stunning with a warm fireplace. Amazing food very tasty 😋 we've been there couple of times and there is always something amazing on the menu to choose from 🙂 staff polite and friendly.

Visited last minute without a booking greeted very nicely. Explained we were in a rush before an appointment and how long the wait on food was. Got sat down straight away the staff were very attentive keeping us updated on how long it was taking. Pizza was amazing. Even though we weren’t in for long it was a great experience we will definitely be back!

I visited this pub/restaurant last year, using disabled access as I'm in a wheelchair! Terrible, dangerous path, full of potholes and very little lighting! This year, on 30th December, on my 57th wedding anniversary, we visited again, disabled access just as bad! My American daughter in law asked for bread, for the table, we were given cheap, sliced white bread! Then she ordered the award winning pie, adviced to order 30 minutes in advance! 50 minutes later she was the only one without a meal! My family came from Seattle to make our day more special! We'd have been better off at Wetherspoons!

We went to the woodmans arms just for the polar express Christmas decorations, We didn't expect that the food was amazing, and the service was great too.

Called for Sunday lunch whilst visiting the area wow it was amazing would highly recommend 5 star.

Must have changed the chef as Sunday lunch wasn't very nice beef very tough and not the best selection of veg and very pricey for what was on offer great staff though and a nice environment

Lovely pub, we met up with family for a drink Great atmosphere! Friendly staff

One of the worst meals we have had in a good while. Firstly service was so slow despite being only half full. Drinks took over half an hour each time. Starters took nearly an hour. Starters were okay but mains were terrible. Do not order the Christmas turkey dinner. 2 out of 3 of our party left the whole meal. Kids deserts are not much better. Especially the cookies were stale.

Sunday lunch was ok, nothing outstanding. The food/ gravy was just warm. Our roasties hard and a little dried up. Green veg was fresh but again luke warm. Didn't order veg sides. The size of the adults chicken dinner wasnt much bigger than the childs. For the price I've had better. Felt slightly rushed to finish and pay too.

Great place to go and see the winter display and enjoy a winter themed meal. Last year it was Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This year it was The Polar Express.

Beautiful Christmas meal with friends. Served by Ben who was fantastic. All the staff were great. Fully recommend.

Well, have to say, first visit but won’t be the last. Took friends for dinner as we had one retired from the daily routines of working life. Location and decor was very festive and service was spot on. Now to the food. We all ordered different mains and each was was reported as being nothing short of superb. Definitely recommended. Price wise was quite reasonable for what we had but who minds when the food is so good.

This place has to be top 3 places for Sunday dinners. The place itself is decorated tremendously and the food was incredible. To be honest myself and my sons nearly crawled inside the gravy bowl and bathed in it. Beautiful place, great atmosphere and impeccable food

So we decided after going for a drive to stop, on a Sunday , and I really wasn't expecting much just a pub meal. Let me tell you the Sunday roast beef I ate last Sunday was the best I've ever ate out, anywhere. There was that much succulent beef I, for the first time in my life left some, the gravy and vegetables were amazing and you get loads a plate full and then a trivet of seasonal on the side with a gravy boat (finally somewhere that doesn't skimp on gravy) my missus opted for the haddock (catch of the day) it was oval plate size, huge, successful win there as she shared it was delicious. This will be our go to Sunday dining experience. Tip though it's busy so book and enjoy !

Never been before so was looking forward to trying it. Was very impressed at the outdoor spaces and imagine it would be a lovely place to go for drinks in the summer. The ambience inside was lovely too, very warm with a nice buzz. We ordered Sunday lunches and I opted for lamb shoulder, but was disappointed with the meat. Honestly didn’t taste like lamb and I left most of it. Two of my party had to ask for their lunches to be heated up. Was a real shame as it kind of spoiled what was otherwise a lovely afternoon.

Best Sunday lunch we've had anywhere period

We have been here a couple of times before and always enjoyed it, we visited again on Friday night for a family wedding reception and it was lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the venue looked great, the only thing that let it down was the price of the drinks. As I was driving I decided to have a pint shandy which was nice but definitely not worth the £6 I paid for it. It has really put me off returning.

Absolutely fabulous. They were in the middle of doing their autumnal decorations, they looked gorgeous😍😍, can't wait to see the christmas ones. If you don't like this place, 😒 there's no where in the planet that's going to meet your needs.

Popped in today for an impromptu lunch, not been for a while and wasn't sure if we would get a seat but we went in and were greeted by a nice friendly man who showed us to a table. A young man came over with the menus and asked us what drinks we would like we then ordered our food, I had lamb Sunday roast and hubby had fish and chips. The food was lovely but hubby said he would have liked a few more peas, my Sunday lunch was lovely, the lamb was so tasty, but the veg was a bit cooler than I would have liked but the gravy warmed it up. We both had maple & pecan cheesecake which was delicious. We would recommend and will be back. The staff were lovely and the service was spot on.

Very disappointed, went for a special birthday I especially chose the woodmans becuase we were taking my young grandson with us and the tables with the full length windows are great for him to look out and entertain him, I appreciate we did not reserve a table but we were allocated a table at the entrance immediately by the kitchen, we asked if they could possibly give us a table away from there with having the little one but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate, which was very disappointing as the whole time we were there no one sat at the window seat in the corner 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ food actually wasn’t great either, menu is very expensive and quite limited, the straw that broke the camels back for me was when the waiter asked if we could keep our grandson out of the way as he would be carrying hot food past our table “ why allocate that table with a young child” especially when there was other tables available the duration of our time there, also when we had requested to be moved for that reason in the first place. Won’t be returning unfortunately or recommending.

What a truly lovely Saturday evening we were served by Lauren, Ryan, James, Matthew and Amelia and the service along with the food was amazing. I had mussels and hubby had woodmans burger which was so good. Not forgetting the kitchen staff, thank you we so enjoyed our tea. Well done team woodmans and please pop along you really won't be disappointed

Popped in after a hike. The pub was bedecked with flowers. The outside seating area was excellent. A second visit was for a birthday celebration. The food we had was very tasty and plenty of it.

Excellent service, especially from the front of house today -Sam.The rooms are exceptional standard and cleaniness.Restaurant food was delicious,reasonably priced and top quality.To say this is a hidden gem is an understatement. Its won many awards for its food and service.Highly recommend!

Great place to stay over if you're visiting Beamish Museum as only 10/15 minute drive away. Rooms were fabulous and we were showed all 5 rooms which are all well presented. Breakfast was great with food cooked hot and service by Pauline was 1st class. Really friendly and welcoming. We also ate here in the evening and also fabulous food & service - we'll be back in the future. Keep up the great work.

Went for my wife’s birthday. Sunday lunch was outstanding.

We returned to this place after a couple of years and were severely dissapointed. I ordered the ribs which said they were served with slaw, not mentioning anything else. I checked and they came with fries too but I assumed slaw was a feature. Checked for real ales and there were none, the beers were dissapointing all round. The ribs turn up and they are luke warm, fatty and covered in a fairly tasteless sauce. The slaw was a tiny arrangement of some red cabbage in mayo with some pickled carrot on top, to call it a garnish would have been generous. It was cabbage flavoured, no seasoning, nothing else like onion or anything to jazz it up, just cabbage and some mayo. The fries were standard, I asked for mayo, I got what I assume was low fat mayo or some cheap brand. It was tasteless too. I have to say, all of the staff were very apologetic and keen to offer more ribs or a free desert but I did not really want either, the moment had passed. My complaint of this place quite frankly is that those meals should not have left the pass! My wife's chicken Satay was equally bland and luke warm in all respects. Just totally uninspiring for what was a fantastic gastro pub a couple of years ago. We won't bother going back.

Came here for Sunday dinner a couple weeks ago. Food was tasty although pork was very fatty, and not a great option of vegetables. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding, very tasty. Atmosphere is lovely and both the inside and outside are very beautiful.

Back home after a fab night at The Woodmans Arms Whickham, 10 out of 10 on all accounts. Second time I’ve looked at the reviews on tripadvisor before visiting a venue and nearly cancelled but went with my gut and been happy. 2 adults and 2 teenagers, We shared their 24oz club steak which was beautiful and the kids had a hawaiian pizza and a burger we had a garlic bread and a side of tender steam broccoli then the kids finished off with the cookie dough and ice-cream each (4 spoons) Bill included 4 large soft drinks one white wine and a pint of lager and a bottle of Red wine, bill was £198 great value for great food and great service and great venue 👏👏

Love this place but today the hot beef sandwich wasn't hot and the beef was fatty, ok for some people I know but not for me thank you.

Went right down hill, sunday dinner used to be devine its rotton now bland no flavour. Meat was full of fat new potatoes more like frozen ones and mash potatoe and veg not the best. So disappointed for the cost we would have rather had a mc donalds 65 pound 2 sunday dinners 1 with extra meat and 2xpigs in blankets pizza chips pot of tea and 2 large cokes. Overly priced which we dont mind if its nice but unfortunately it was terrible!

Came here with a friend as it is local to the both of us. We have both been here before but not for a while so decided to give it a try. We sat outside and found our own menus as no staff really come outside, we went to the bar to place our order and we’re told to get our own cutlery and napkins. We were then asked to pick our sauces now before the meal comes… thought this was strange but went with it anyways. The food come and it was very poor if I’m honest, I got a meat feast pizza and it was so hard to cut, all of the toppings just fell off and there was a thick layer of cheese which was only just melted slightly. It was extremely greasy/oily. Had to eat it with a knife and fork it was so tough, probably one of the worst pizzas I’ve had. My friend got a salad, very basic and nothing special. We then sat inside and got a hot drink to warn up, the hot drink was actually cold, not even lukewarm so we sent that back and received another. Overall I wouldn’t return again, the prices were ridiculously high for poor quality food and the service was also poor, despite the place being empty.

Took my 7 year old here for lunch today. We got the kids eat for £1 deal. Pizza 🍕 for him and beef sandwich for me. The food is excellent and friendly staff too. Very nice I would highly recommend 👌

Was going to try for lunch, first impressions were not good, entrance was scruffy and the table we sat at after getting a drink from the bar was dirty. The menu was very limited, we only fancied a light bite, but no sandwiches or small plates on offer only main meals. We took our drinks outside as it was actually not raining and again the table was filthy, covered in bird poop and and spilt drinks. The car park was full of really bad pot holes and if it had been dark could be costly car repairs. Definitely won't return.

Came for a baby shower which was meant to be ‘afternoon tea’ which we had paid £17 each for. They informed us on the day it would come out as a buffet… fine I’ve had this elsewhere before. It was absolutely not afternoon tea. Nothing sweet at all, no scones etc. just a few sad pizzas I could have put in the oven myself, some sausage rolls and cheese. Absolutely not worth the money we paid. Given 2 as the venue is nice and we had a private enough area for an event

Went to the part of Woodmans called The Willows . Fantastic venue with beautiful views. Delicious meal, and staff were particularly helpful with a disabled member of our group. Highly recommended.

I had heard so many good things about this place and I was so disappointed in the food. Beautiful building and ambiance. The service was slow but polite, There was a wedding going on at the pavilion adjacent to the pub so I'm guessing that's why it was slow. Ordered the heritage beets which were supposed to have goat cheese and walnuts, but there were just greens and the beautiful beets with no dressing. I ordered the ocean fish catch of the day and while the fish was amazing. The sauce did not compliment it well, very heavy and iverpowerinh. The potato / root compote underneath the fish just didn't go flavorwise with the fish. Also, the road is absolutely hazardous to pull out onto, That road is quite dangerous anyway, but with the angle and no way to see oncoming cars, I had to hold my breath and just go.

Had a fabulous time. I really enjoyed the duck pizza. The service was five star 🌟 and we were all well catered for. Highly recommended 👌.

Very good, friendly service. Food was nice, had duck pizza and steak and pie. Pizza was lovely, steak n ale pie was nice but pastry was a little bit too thick for me.

I've never seen such a beautiful interior, an array of floral displays with a wow factor mixed in, so stunning. The service and Sunday roast continued to be of high standard, and I would definitely return and 100% recommend...wish all restaurants had this quality of service. Definitely need to book to avoid disappointment and have to note what a lovely, caring touch to the array of toiletries free to use in the ladies toilets, never seen this before and thought how amazing this little touch made. Keep the good work up, you have set a standard above and beyond 👏 👍

Popped in for a quick bite to eat after a long walk with my daughter and the pup. So we sat in the covered outside terrace. Service was great and the food was excellent. Definitely be returning.

Very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Table booked in advance and ready when my party arrived. Staff were excellent...attentive ,without being overbearing, courteous and very efficient. Drinks order spot on and all meals arrived together. These were plentiful and good quality. Our first visit but will return. 👍

Had a Sunday lunch, it was tastles and re-heated, awful food, I will not return.

Called in for a quick lunchtime bite, seated quickly and served our order super swift and it was fantastic. Highly recommend!
