Another Friendly Pub in Gateshead. Friendly, Helpful staff, I come here with my book club once a month. The Central does have regular events & a regular Pub Quiz. There is something for everyone in this pub.

Always perfect conditioned ales and stout, They had a Flanders casserole on several weeks ago which was superb, Always a great playlist with a friendly atmosphere,

Only go there once a month, but always enjoy my time there! Lovely staff!!! I've noticed price rises for drinks recently which I didn't expect, but I also see similar price rises in other places I frequent, unfortunately! Maybe someone's out to get me??? 😉

Brilliant as ever; though admittedly I'm averaging two visits every ten years or so :-) Fine selection of unusual ales and ciders and enough of the standards to keep anyone happy. Indeed, I was made to feel very welcome...as was Ellie, my constant four legged companion, although she got more attention and treats.

Came here for some live music. Great little bar in a cracking building. Decent beer on draft, good service, definitely worth a visit.

Excellent visit to “the coffin” with a good choice of well served beers and, this time, a venture up the stairs to the roof terrace to take in some rays. Not spectacular sights there as such but a chance to watch the local trains go by. Pleasant.

Absolutely fantastic building but it’s gone very crafty (craft beers). Unless I know the carb values of the beers then, as a diabetic, I can’t risk it. Used to enjoy many a good night here years ago.

Good selection of lagers and drinks, not your normal mainstream brands but that's ok sometimes

I was here yesterday with a group of friends. One of them knew this place so took us along. I'm glad she did, and I'll hope to visit again. Everything as it should be, but particular credit to Cameron and Jimmy who while serving our beers they were very friendly and chatty and helped make the night. Thank you. 🍻

We ran across The Central walking from the Gateshead Metro station to cross the Tyne on the Millenium Bridge - what a find! Great beer selection and the proprietor was just a joy to chat with. He showed us the many rooms available at The Central - all very classic Brit pub rooms. We enjoyed half-pints, sat out on the rooftop terrace. No trains came by, but that would be a fun spot to watch them.

Great pub. Good choice for rooms/bars to drink in. Popped in for a pint before going to The Glasshouse. Will be going back.

My new favourite pub. Love this place with its great beers, such unique historic character in all the rooms it has, and there are a few. As well as the bar area on the ground floor, it has another 2 rooms too, and then as you go upstairs, there is a pool room, and to top it off, another bar and roof terrace. Not had any food and unsure on the latest offerings. Really friendly staff. You won't find another place like it, exceptional.

Yeah it was a nice pub I can't talk about the food because I don't no if they do food the drinks are a bit pricey but I would leave that up too you

Bit of an institution The Central located at the Gateshead end of the Tyne Bridge. Serves real ales and pies in a relaxed traditional environment. For me a cracking pint of Wylam Gold.

Great bar, nice and friendly staff. Have some canny gigs on every so often!

Great pub, good beers, great gig venue

Called for a couple of drinks on the way to The Sage to see Tony Hadley. Liked it so much that we went back after the concert. Good selection of drinks in this lovely traditional pub.

Popped in here for a drink on a Monday evening. Very pleasant place for a drink. A good range of products available. Prices are very reasonable for the area - much cheaper than the adjacent hotel!! Friendly and welcoming. Comfortable seating as well

Went in for their weekly quiz and pie night and was gutted I hadn’t found this pub earlier! The bar staff were amazing and the atmosphere was also fantastic. Very spacious pub with four different rooms and a pool table upstairs with a great choice of local ales too. Easily one of the best pubs on the Tyne!

Great selection of beers, spirits, ciders and non alcoholic options, a great menu of food and there was even free stew on when we visited! Also this place has an amazing roof terrace!

Beautiful pub, brilliant drinks selection and lovely staff

With friends who live in Gateshead, I have visited this place a few times over the last few years. There is always a good choice of real ales and all are well kept. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I particularly like the back room, which is quiet and allows for a good chat. The place itself is unique in shape and has plenty of rooms, including an outdoor area.

The staff was friendly and approachable made me feel welcome they were really helpful definitely going there again

One of my favourite pubs in the north east absolutely fantastic

We entered this pub for the history itself called the coffin for its shape or wedge. It is really bright and clean, the manager welcomed us and invited us to go up to the terrace and it was a brilliant idea. We enjoyed the sunshine and the trains passing by our side. Beautiful views not to Newcastle but some aged buildings opposite. Very recommended.

Nice pub, a good selection of drinks. Anyone paying a visit for the first time should check out the top floor.

The pub is run by some nice young gentlemen, who are more than happy to help you picking a beer from their big (and very diverse) selection of brews! You will find none of the Heineken / Guinness brews there, but just local and independent Ales, Ciders and Lagers at great prices! The pub is very clean and also it has a super nice rooftop terrasse for relaxing in the sun (if it's out), a pool table and even a third room with a stage, where you would find some concerts on the weekend. Honestly the nicest pub of Newcastle (even though it's in gateshead :P) and a great place for anyone wanting to try some alternative brews!

Stopped by for a quicky when we were in the area, amicable barman who suggested we go to the roof bar for a view of the area. Great outlook and better still proper draught beer, its my kind of pub.

Lovely place, deceivingly small from the outside but what an amazing space! Loads of bars and a proper snug! Roof terrace on a warm day is a must! Will definitely be back

Went to see a band called Holiday In Tokyo. Great venue for a band, a drink or a snack. Has a fantastic atmosphere. Many different kinds of beeers & lagers. Wish I lived closer because I would be in every night.

It's canny for meeting up before gigs at the Sage, and it's near the Microbus. Not too expensive, but has a queer smell. OK choice of beers and liquor, beer well kept. Clientele seem a mix, without knackers. Barman OK but a bit abrupt. It is Gateshead (where I live).

Entered the bar at 3pm (opening time) and we were warmly greeted by Cameron, nobody else present! What can I say, we had a historical review of the bar....(oh, it dates back before the Flatiron Building New York.....one up for the Toon) Beers are in abundance depending on your bag! Great place to visit steeped in history and here's a shout out to making Gateshead an equal to our Newcastle Quayside. Please visit this lovely bar! Awesome 👌

Excellent choice of Real Ale and also sells pies. Recently renovated building is a real gem. Looks like the Flat Iron building but actually pre dates it. Very friendly staff.
