A bit out of the way, but worth a visit for a meal or entertainment, lovely friendly staff....

Love this place, we go for the live music. Food and staff are great.

Visited after reading reviews for sunday lunch, but sadly did not live up to expectations. Found staff to be rude verging on arrogant. Decided not to bother eating but sat outside with drinks and watched the rats eating food left lying around. The place is minging, never again.

Called in with my daughter for some food and a drink. I had steak and ale pie and she had fish and chips. Absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend the Schooner. The food and drink are fantastic and a great price. Called back on 3rd February 2024 and the food is still delicious. I had fish and chips, with peas and tartare sauce. Best fish and chips I've had for years. My daughter got the Southern fried chicken burger which was massive. Very impressed with the quality of the food.

Lovely pub beside the River Tyne. Massive portions of food at a great price. Will be coming back for sure.

I don’t know if it was an off day but the atmosphere in the place was almost frightening!! Proper rough family in and the kids were screaming and the parents swearing like troopers,, Aaaaawwful!!! but the food was bloody glorious I really enjoyed the bait x

I've never seen as much food on a plate! A full Christmas dinner, couldn't fault it. A must try and visit.

There’s always a friendly welcome at the Schooner.Today I went with my friend & her son & I really fancied jacket potato with cheese savoury & although it’s not on the menu there wonderful chef made it for me..It was delicious,.my friend thoroughly enjoyed her meal too.The staff always go above and beyond to try to keep the customers happy.I’m a very fussy vegetarian so really appreciate this.The Schooner is dog friendly & is very close to the river Tyne,so great if your out walking & fancy a drink or something to eat, Theyl even cater to your dog.There’s seating areas outside which is great in the warmer weather as I’ve sat out a few times in the past & it’s lovely and peaceful .Staff have told me about some great bands they have there which il definitely be checking out in the near future.

This is one of my favourite pubs in Gateshead. There's always an event on, mainly live music most nights. The cask ales change often and are all affordably priced, there are also a range of lagers. Unfortunately no key ales. I can't comment on wines but there are the expected spirits. The food is good, delivered timely and reasonably priced though expect quite calorific traditional pub grub.

Well known local pub with its dedicated share of regulars... Famous for their amply sized home chilled meals... The adult sized Sunday lunch has enough food to sink a shop! Friendly and efficient service.

Can be busy at the weekends and when bands are playing. Good food and generous portions.

Despite hiccup with delivery, this was one of the best lunches we have ever had delivered. Food was excellent and portions were huge. Recommended to everyone

Nice atmosphere and decent enough roast dinner on a Sunday - the nut roast was delish and generous portions too! Good vegetarian options and great selection of drinks. Music is never too loud, which I like in a pub setting.

Emmm not good - Steak night - asked for well done - steak bloody - supposed to get a bottle of wine or two pint with offer - never got! Staff too busy all looking at their phones!

Nice pub and lovely staff. You order your food and drinks at the bar. 2 courses will cost you £15 and 3 courses £17. The food was lovely and ample.

Very very slow service ordered food online waited almost an hour and half for delivery

A hidden gem serving fabulous home cooked food. From beautiful Sunday lunches to fabulous juicy steaks with all the trimmings, prices so reasonable and big portions. Cracking pub with food and bands

Really tasty beef Sunday lunch delivered to our door...food was good, nice and hot, and good portions. Very satisfying 👍

This place is a gem. Came here to celebrate my 50th with my Newcastle family. Drinks were flowing, live band and the bar man shared shots with us before he closed. Truly wonderful. Will definitely come again!!

We went to the schooner tonight to sample some new low calorie dishes that are hoping to make it on to the new menu and they were absolutely delicious. I follow a calorie deficit and always struggle when eating out with my partner who does not follow a diet as limit restaurant offer low calorie option other than salads! Both the beef bourguignon and the Cantonese style chicken curry were delicious, filling and for me completely guilt free, both the chicken and beef had been cooked to perfection and completely melted in your mouth and with the winter coming up I think these would both be a excellent choice for your menu I would 100% be back for more. 10/10

Ordered 2 dinners and 2 desserts for delivery.. lady asked what time we would like them delivered and we said 4pm... delivery turned up 45 minutes late and drivers attitude was horrendous.. called them twice to chase the order.. not good.

Delicious food friendly staff nice atmosphere

Visited Sunday teatime for a few beers and to see a band (KSVT). Cask beer was excellent, band was excellent and atmosphere perfect. Wished we had gone for Sunday lunch too. The food looked and smelt delicious.

Food was outstanding and great value for money. Staff and service was all round perfect.😁

First time ordering Sunday lunch for delivery, wow!! 2 lamb dinners and 1 pork, huge portions (I probably should have asked if they did a kids one 😂) my daughter was seriously impressed with the Yorkshire pudding. £40 for 3 giant dinners, great quality, and the delivery lady was lovely!! Even in the pouring rain. Thanks guys, we’ll definitely order again xx

First time we have used Sunday lunch delivery service on the recommendation of a friend. Was highly delighted with the service provided from ordering food to delivery - food excellent and piping hot delivered spot on time requested. Absolutely delighted with the whole process and will certainly be a regular customer. Would certainly recommend The Schooner lunch and delivery service.

Pre booked for my wife, kids, grandkids, a total of nine people to eat here on Saturday 3rd of June as a celebration for my birthday, oldest son turned up circa 1810 with his wife and two kids to be told that the kitchen staff had not turned up, the rest of us were on our way via taxi, no call from the schooner to let me know that they had to cancel. Had to quickly rearrange somewhere else at short notice, we managed but what a shambles from the schooner not to say an also expensive night with the wasted taxi journeys. Shambolic and obviously very poor customer focus

Booked for my dads birthday as he likes the food which i understand they dont usually take bookings but the kitchen staff pulled a sickie didnt tell us . So we turned up paid a taxi there and back for nothing . Would of only took a phone call

Ordered 2 Sunday dinners yesterday and they were both inedible, both dinners were covered in something spicy which wasn’t mentioned once. I messaged on facebook yesterday but I got completely ignored. Not good service

Staff are polite and professional good choice of drinks and plenty of places to sit indoor and out. We had a lovely meal and the steak was cooked as requested. Excellent value for money. I would highly recommend this place, definitely going back.

Warm friendly staff, outstanding service. The go to meal to tell decent pub grub must be mince and dumplings, theirs was spot on. I had to question the bill because it was so cheap

We have been here twice for family functions. It's a quaint pub with a fantastic atmosphere, the walls are adorned with pictures of famous musicians. The pub is situated close to the river Tyne as you can probably guess by the name of the place.

Excellent place to eat & enjoy good music delivered by the turns the owners put on. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good night's entertainment

The in-laws get a Sunday dinner delivered every week and rave about it so I'm not out tonight so took the wife & kid down, lovely, well worth it, 3 different meals chilli pizza and a burger all fabulous, was that impressed (& hungry) forget to take a photo before we started so here's the empty plates

Great weekend bar lovely food. Amazing welcoming friendly staff and locals. Great music from very talented musicians. We spent a few nights in the bar over new year and had an Amazing new years day dinner. Definitely will be back.

We went for a days visit but stayed 3days we arrived in our moterhome and there is free parking lovely area by the river went to the bar the staff were so friendly as were all the other costomers fantastic selection of beers and spirits and food was home made and so good we are there every night on Sunday we had Sunday lunch large portion and was beautiful every night we were there there was live music and every band was fab in all it doesn't get any better if you go to Newcastle drop in you will love it

Impressive little pub on the banks of the Tyne. Even better was the quality of the food for the price. First visit but certainly won't be the last.

Nice, old-fashioned pub with a healthy selection of interesting beers. Very welcoming landlord. Food looked good too but I didn't actually eat here. I think the heating must have been turned down a notch as it was quite cool. But not as cold as outside which was -3°C.

Worst meals ever on our delivery veg not cooked properly it was absolutely freezing and got pork instead of beef and after waiting from 2.45 until 5.35 for delivery afterbeing told on phone it would be about 4pm for our deluvery

Excellent choice of various flavoured ciders at exceptional prices . Friendly staff . Ideal place for people that like a range of unusual ales not your run of the mill varieties .

Wonderful traditional north East pub with modern quirks. Great friendly atmosphere, delicious food which is very well-priced, top beer selection. A good choice for those who like their music; regular live rock events (outdoor patio space hosts some of these.) Also a very community-minded venue who are always doing their bit (and more) for the local community. P.S New Year party comes highly recommended, what a scream.

Excellent good, great beers and brilliant staff. Yes, it's hardly a city centre location, but it's well worth the walk. Dog friendly, welcoming and nicely rough and ready.

Been looking to going in here for a while after walking past so many times my god wot a dirty little hovel seats all collapsed place is scruffy how on earth can they serve food safely in there my advice is make sure your vaccinations are all up to date I won’t be going back nothing personal just not my type of pub
