We were so happy with the food and service we received on Monday for our after funeral get together for my Dad. The café style room was comfortable and welcoming for everyone. Everyone loved the comfy chairs and relaxed atmosphere. The buffet was a brilliant price with great variety and quality. The record player allowed us to play some of my Dad's favourites. Thank you again for a lovely experience during a difficult day!

Had our Dad's funeral buffet there in one of there rooms... was a gorgeous newly decorated lounge... staff were superb... food was very responsibility priced and tasted amazing... highly recommend them for function or just nipping in for food and drink Thank you to the staff for amazing attention to detail for us ❤️ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Visited the coach & horses on October 6, 2024 with my husband and my pooch. We've always popped into here for a quick drink but today we decided to have some food aswel. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Food was amazing, my husbands burger was massive! I got the Mac & cheese and thoroughly enjoyed it. My dog even got pup cup which he really enjoyed! Prices aren't bad either.

We popped into the café in the pub. What a hidden gem - one of the nicest coffees I've had in a long time, food was delicious and service was very friendly and helpful. Looking at some of the dishes as they came out of the kitchen we'll be back - the breakfast sandwiches are on my list next 😍

Don’t bother going here. It looks like it’s not had a clean since it was built. Stank of wee as soon as we were through the door. Should’ve walked straight back out. Dirt and grime everywhere. Seats all stained and disgusting. Floor hasn’t been cleaned since forever. We were taken through to the cafe which is ‘a much nicer room’. Looked better but again filthy. I don’t know how they are allowed to serve food. Then ‘ah we don’t have much on the menu but if you want pie I could go out and get one’. Absolutely filthy.

Visited for Sunday lunch with my son. Compliments to the chef as the chicken dinner was delicious and the yorkshire pudding was enormous. We didn't have to wait around no fuss friendly service. Checked in on regular. Hope to be back.

Brilliant food and great service

Alan ord your post is a disgrace I was in at the same time as you having a meal with my wife and we have not had a bad meal in there you were given a new meal at a discounted price and you twisted about that one so I take it you will not be back the staff did all they could to make you happy you can please some people some of the time but I think McDonald's is your best hope

Sunday lunch was a disaster. From exploding Yorkshire puddings to rank mash to pepper filled turnip to nearly a hour wait. Although they did apologise and refunded my meal. The ladies were more than helpful thou.

Excellent meal today beef dinner was excellent and so much meat unbelievable,service excellent as well first time here we will be back,top spot.

Sunday lunch is good quality and quantity for money. Girls are lovely and very pleasant.

Food was fantastic, the service however was appalling. Took an hour for food to arrive then sat with plates for half hour afterwards. Staff just waiting behind bar and not focusing on customers. We were going to order dessert but decided to leave instead.

Our second time here since under nem management. The first time wasn't the best ,but ,hey ,we decided to give another shot. And that was it ! Food amazing, we had burgers 🍔 ,but on top of that, MASSIVE SHOUT OUT for our waitress Alisha ,very kind ,very attentive lovely person ❤️ Thank you, Alisha, for making our day amazing 👏 you're a star 🌟🤩

Busy Saturday afternoon, Food was non stop so we HD some shortages when we came to order. However the guys went bove and beyond to sort them out ,offered us alternatives, and a bit of compensation. Food was good hearty portions and value for money. Drinks not Iver priced either . A good choice for a Saturday. Thanks to the staff.

Ordered two fish and chips with mushy peas normal pease came chips terrible burnt after a while bitter taste from the fish a lady asked if meals were ok I said no chip’s terrible ordered mushy peas she asked what can I do to change the meal the chef maybe a good idea 25 pound wasted if I could make a suggestion go to the fish shop beside coach and horses as you can guess we will not be back for drinks or food

Food was lovely but could of been hotter service great need to be more knowledgeable on allergies n a uniform to differentiate staff n public

Veg was very cold and run out of stuffing and chicken. I get that they run out of things, but there was 2 very small roasties on plate and only two veg choice carrot and cabbage . When paying higher end rate for a roast dinner, was a bit dissapointed with what was served up.

Just called in for a drink to see how it was since new people took over we didnt have food on way out toilets were bad all blocked no toilet paper only let down

New tenants have really started with a bang! We went for Sunday dinner today and it was absolutely divine. There is literally not a single fault I could pick with the food or the service. They even gave the biggest plate of chicken, beef, pork and lamb I have ever seen to our greyhound. Just outstanding all round.

We travelled from Sheffield to Newcastle for a break between Christmas and new year. We booked a table for 5 at the Coach and Horses for a family meal. Upon arrival we were informed the “steak special” on the display board was unavailable, which wasn’t a big problem. However, following this, when trying to order a number of ‘sizzling’ meals… these were also unavailable. Having looked at the menu again and ordered we were then told that there was no rice available for a number of our meals. Waste of our time and money on a round of drinks which should have been refunded. Rather than play “guess what is available from the menu” we left very disappointed.

Parking is fairly easy but couldn't see any dedicated disabled bays. Staff we excellent, on the ball, very helpful and courteous. Only down side was toilet access for wheelchair. I didn't enquire first, so that's on my toes. Food looked good, but we didn't eat. Last time I ate there was too long ago to be relevant

Popped in after a visit to my brother staff were really friendly and welcoming I never tried the food but what I saw going out looked lovely would defo come back

Called for a drink before we moved on to a local restaurant, sat outside amongst children, which I don’t mind, but the place was scattered with rubbish, and the barman was out picking up glasses totally ignored all of the rubbish, tables very dirty, grass needed cutting, just basically a bit unkempt, glass was very dirty, when I complained, he just poured the gin into another glass, taking the dust with it, he said it’s just because they’ve been sitting, well that’s obvious, as they were full of dust, it doesn’t make them clean, will not visit again.

Came here yesterday with my Mam for food, a very brill service, food was great (I had a Carbonara, she had Mince and Dumplings), and it arrived in a timely manner as well, we both really enjoyed our food, staff were really friendly as well Would highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in the Birtley area, you will not be disappointed.

Just been for a late lunch/early dinner. Had a hot beef baguette, and my girlfriend had the hunters chicken. Very tasty with lots on the plate, all of it was tasty and filling. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, definitely recommended, and we will return for more.

Had a sunday lunch at this pub and had a very nice meal with very friendly staff.Great pub for kids as there are play areas inside and outside.The food was very nice but I would ask for separate gravy as there was too much on my plate.Great value and very tasty.We shall return for further lunches.

Took my family for a sunday lunch and had a very nice time.We booked a table and ordered drinks from the bar and also ordered our food there.For starters we had potato skins and garlic mushrooms and both were great.The main courses when arrived were very nice with mash roasties,turnip,carrots,broccoli,York pud,meat ,cabbage and roast parsnips.There is internal and external play areas for kids with a very large beer garden for drinks outside.The only reason I have deducted a point is that the beef was a touch tough and there us too much gravy on the meal - gravy boats?? All in all a very nice pub for food and the kids loved it.Great friendly service from staff.

Friendly staff and a great pint unfortunately the food took ages to arrive the carrot's were raw and the rest of the food barely warm which was a great letdown considering the 45 minute wait.

Our family called in for Sunday lunch and we all agreed that the food was lovely and very good value for money. The service we received was really friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The little people of our group had a great time in the play area. We'll definitely be back.

Held my daughters 21st birthday here we were given a private room, food was perfect all 20 of us served on time, even though the place was very busy everything was faultless highly recommend for a delicious meal at very reasonable prices

First I have ever had Xmas lunch out & long may this continue food was exceptional massive well done to the 2 young lads Ben & David bar staff were fab & tbh am a fussy eater but couldn’t fault anything from the welcome to drinks to food what an experience well done everyone

Absolutely lovely people who can’t do enough for you. Catered for a gluten free diet and food is huge portions, beer is well kept and well priced, they do a lot for the community and make everyone feel welcome. They deserve more success! Wouldn’t hesitate recommending

Waited an hour n twenty minutes for 3 meals to find chicken still had blood in it drinks were flat

Today (27/11/22), Myself along with my hubby & Mother, decided to try the Coach & Horses for Sunday Lunch. I wasn't sure how busy it would be so having contacted them via Facebook, they booked us a table. On arrival the restaurant wasn't too busy, a nice lady greeted us & told us the process for placing orders etc. We opted for the standard Carvery priced at £7.95, there's was an option of teo meats or trio of meats & kids portion too. Along with three diet cokes, the total bill was £32.85. We waited aporox 25 minutes for our meals to arrive which seemed along time considering they weren't very busy. All meals arrived with mash, roasties, cauli, carrots, cabbage, swede, large Yorkshire pudding & our meats, myself & hubby having beef & mother the chicken. The potatoes & vegetables were lovely, all well cooked & hot however, the let down was the meats, our beef was bit too chewy & my mother's chicken breast was so dried out, you couldn't cut it. Its a shame as had the meats been spot on, we'd have definitely returned again in the future but not based on today's meal. It is disabled accessible & the toilets are right next to the front entrance. Was worth a try but not for us, based on the meats.

Popped in for Sunday lunch. had the two meat selection with a lovely pudding. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely staff even provided a dog bed and bowel of water for the pooch. Highly recommended will return

Atmosphere Quirky to say the least if your after a leisurely afternoon/evening this is your spot . Food 7 to 8 not Mc D 's for speed but service with a smile and blanket and a hot water bottle if you feel the cold (see what I mean Quirky stuff). Entertainment on a weekend and some mid week nights.

Went to this pub for food today , never again waited 50 minutes for 3 meals . My husband ordered a burger and I'm sure they went to Iceland and bought a pack of budget burgers and slapped it in a dry bun from the reduced section . Bugs on the bit lettuce they had put on the plate beside the burger . Oh I see you replied , I have worked in kitchens all my life and NEVER kept anyone waiting that long for fresh food and if we wanted fast food we would have went to McDonald's. As for the bugs on the salad you can't pass the buck , it's your kitchen ! You are responsible for what leaves it !

For a cheap and cheerful pub the food isn’t half bad. Not gastropub levels but better than your average local. They have food challenges, lots of offers and reasonably priced drinks. Chips and halloumi were really tasty and you can get 4 starters for £10. Popular with Birtley residents, dogs, kids and everything in between. Could do with a spruce up, and it’s got quite an atmosphere, but there’s a beer garden outside to find some space. If you’re wanting somewhere fancy or refined this might not be your place, but if you’re having a few drinks with your friends it does the trick.

Shame I can’t give it lower. Waited 30+ minutes for a toastie and there was still no sign of it when I walked out. Dreadful service even before the ridiculous wait for food.

We had the sirloin steak with garlic cheese starter. It was absolutely delicious . Highly recommend this friendly pub. Food delicious family and dog friendly. Doesn't get any better. Prices good as well.

Lovely place and staff but waited almost an hour for 1 pizza. Giving the benefit of the doubt it was mid afternoon and busy the time we were there, but the pizza was beautiful. 100% be going again just the waiting time felt too long for what was ordered .

Let me start with the good points. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was hot and the chips were nice. The beef used in the beefburger was very tasty as it was freshly made. What let it down was the lady serving was the only person on and there looked to be a funeral wake happening. Our food took almost an hour to arrive and one of the cheeseburgers only had 6 chips with it. We had one of our orders changed twice as what was asked for was not avaliable. The establishment looked tired and although the table was clean, it was tacky to the touch.

Nice place for family but food is either late, undercooked or just gets forgotten about. This was the past 2 occasions iv been here. But still a great pub for the kids they have an indoor soft play and a large play area outside. Plenty of toys for kids to play with and they also put on free events. Friendly staff too but more help in the kitchen is needed

Had a lovely meal here absolutely delicious, I really enjoyed the lamb. They found out we had a horrible experience at a totally different restaurant the night before and went out of their way to assure us everything was ok when it was only taking about the length of time you'd expect it to take for our meal on a Sunday. Birthday meal for granddaughter, Fabulous meals and excellent service from all the staff.

Food late and not really sufficient we paid for 25 to 30 people and they had 15 people written down. There were people eating in the area where we were told we would be. Our food seemed to be an after thought and rushed.

Met friends for lunch. Great meal. Will visit again.

Worst meal I have bought. Firstly waited not far off an hour for the food to arrive. The bar maid apologised twice because we waited that long. That was because we paid up front. Or I would have left. We ordered piri piri chicken burger and I ordered a medium rare steak. My sides were chips and mushrooms and I ordered a extra portion of onion rings. What a disgrace. Firstly the plates were cold mushrooms were cold and burnt the onion rings were shop bought and over cooked the steak looked lovely but was covered with black pepper wasn't edible I also paid extra for a Diane sauce which again should have been a peppercorn sauce was foul. The chips were nice but that was as far as the meal was. Never again. The chef needs replacing as cannot even make real onion rings or knows that you don't put food on cold plates. My husbands burger was also cold. The tables were sticky too the touch.

Kids had a good time and there was lots to do for them

This is not only nice looking pub, but a great fun for families. You can find a mini softpay area inside as well as lovely outside playground. There is plenty of space inside and outside. Staff is helpfull and friendly. Tabletops by the softplay area have few fitted games, which us nice touch as well.

Food is really really good. Chips are unbelievable, homemade. Tried mince and dumplings, curry, fish and chilli. All absolutely gorgeous and fresh. Definitely coming back, 2 for £12

As I heard such lovely reviews about this pub I decided to pop along with my wife and baby boy... from the moment walking through the doors we were welcomed with a lovely warm atmosphere... we were taken to a lovely cosy spot where we could look out on to the beautiful garden.... we ordered our meals and to my delight were absolutely delicious, as I'm always the first to complain about something, i couldnt fault this at all.. this is the first warm homely child friendly pub I've been to in a long while... with gameboards laminated on to the tables for children that get a little bored waiting for food or whilst eating lunch... a small play area inside for children and a tremendous outdoor play area with added tree swing for the wee littluns.. Definitely looking forward to the upcoming event days ahead.. but also returning as a regular customer, and as our child grows 😘

Recently attended for after christening party, most people sat outside because people were eating in the area reserved for the party. Good point was the play area and bouncy castles for the kids, though someone asked them to be cleaned because they were dirty and full of water, but wasn’t a problem as they were cleaned quickly. The buffet was a bit disappointing ( catered for by the pub I was told) a very very basic menu of 3 type of sandwiches, pork pies, pizza, quiche and a few satay kebabs. Chicken curry and rice and I was told there was suppose to be chilli con carne as well?? No nibbles whatsoever as in the way of cheese, crisps , nibbles. Nothing at all for the kids apart from the pizza, which went very quickly. Some sausage rolls or hot dogs and chips would have been nice.Some of the kids had nothing to eat because they didn’t like anything! When I enquiried how much had been paid for this I was absolutely gobsmacked ! I could have done that for £50. I felt really sorry for the couple as they were obviously embarrassed, but, too kind and probably frightened to say anything. Bad job management, least you could do is offer them half the money they paid back??
