Go here every week to meet friends for Coffee, service & atmosphere is exceptional, & the toilets are spotlessly clean. I would definitely recommend this place

Service was excellent, we didn't have any food this time but the meals that were served to diners looked very nice.

I recently visited The Potter's Wheel Pub in Sunniside and had a delightful experience. Sab, the young owner, along with his family, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. His sister runs a charming cafe, while his dad impresses with delicious Greek cuisine. The beer selection is pleasing, and the friendly staff adds to the overall positive vibe. A great spot for a relaxing time with good company.

Enjoyed a fantastic night of a friend who was playing his gig however there were a few gentlemen (4) who were clearly over intoxicated and had potentially taken illegal substances yet the bar staff had refused to move them even though they were clearly causing a scene and had made the environment uncomfortable for all the other guests who were there. It was clear to see that the individuals were highly intoxicated and that they should be removed from the premises yet the bar staff continuities to serve them and keep them in the premises when they’re being much too far forward and imposing themselves on other guests/customers. I understand it may be uncomfortable to ask a customer to leave however you must think of those who are keeping themselves to themselves and if others are inconsiderate and they must be asked to leave at the very least. I do normally enjoy the potters wheel however this is disappointing and really should have been handled better.

This Pub I hope will take off for its owners as they deserve it, has a Pan Asian Restaurant attatched ample parking nice seating area outside. I was there for the buskers evening which is held on a Wednesday, only in its infancy let's hope that goes well.

Went to the restaurant attached Kato s. It's the best meal I've had for a long time. Service excellent, Very very friend staff. Make you feel very welcome and special. Can't do enough for you. Top marks , well worth a visit and a meal you will enjoy.😎👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

an awful place.but now closed down thankfully. bamboo shed to sit in in the car park which were dirty and wet , and 2 meters away from a busy main road and they were trying to attract children to play there.

The Opium Den Chinese restaurant within the pub serves excellent food, would highly recommend this place. Very reasonably priced too.

The food was beautiful, it has reopened as the Opium Den, an oriental restaurant, good portions and very tasty food, well worth a try!

Popped here by chance as I needed to quickly nip around the corner to look at a car for sale. It was about 1pm and I knew it would be closed so didn't think they'd mind if I used their empty car park. Now, I'm wholly aware that it is a private car park for patrons of the pub only, but I was stopped and questioned by a man, who I believe to be the landlord. He told me the pub was shut until 3 and I politely said that I would only be a minute as I was popping round the corner. I really thought that he wouldn't mind as this was a "friendly local pub". Anyway, I didn't want to argue and immediately went back to my vehicle to move it. Even as I was walking away, I was shouted at "you wouldn't like it if I parked outside your house!" I drove off. In short, it looks like the days of the friendly local publican have gone! I used to visit this pub a lot when I was younger. I am fairly local and like to get out and about, but I'm afraid I won't be visiting here any more!

Look. This place will shock you. It’s really good. It’s actual stonebAke Italian dough. Tiger on tap, and a really quirky (but clean) decor. I will be back.

Staff friendly enough and cheap but wait ages and poor quality...dont do crisps at bar..had to go to co op over road..

At £7.95 for two very good courses it was very good value for money. It has become our go to place for meeting friends.

We haven’t visited the potters since it’s been taken over and was excited to see the refurbishment as it was a great pub years ago and had great food and it’s our local. All I can say is what a let down it’s a had in my opinion a bit of a makeover but random second hand stuff that doesn’t even work with the place still the same dark wood surroundings and carpet s and few random fences put up , and Artificial grass inside! Toilet s are exactly the same as before,Bar service absolutely terrible we waited ages and ages but a regular got served straight away and we still waited ages after that. we thought we would try some lunch but unfortunately there was nothing left at 3.10 we were told .. saying that there was loads of people having take outs in bags / tinfoil, saying that there were loads of tables that needed clearing around us but most had loads of food left on them maybe the portions are too big that’s maybe why they have run out , the annoying thing when we left 2 people were getting served Sunday lunch that was nearly an hour and a half after we asked for lunch.... felt totally disappointed I m sad to say.

Called in for meal on Saturday afternoon, not a massive car park, it has no blue badge parking bays as these have been taken over to house a smokers area, there is also no disabled toilet unless I didn’t see it, the gents toilets stank of urine while the ladies I was told are so much better.

Had a surprise Engagement and Birthday party here it was a brilliant night from start to finish. Food was excellent plenty of choice to choose from and they did a great job to get all the food out together as there was a large number of us. Staff very helpful and friendly. I have been here twice now - knew I shouldn’t of give it another chance!! I few weeks ago I went and waited over an hour and a hour for Sunday lunches which then came cold, then had to wait even longer! This time waited an hour for a children’s meal to come first which the mash was freezing cold so took it back then took another 20 minutes for the other meals to come... then asked for a dessert menu to be told they would get me one, sat there waiting again to be told they don’t have dessert menus then the waitress spilt peppercorn sauce all over the table, walked away and didn’t come back to clean it - my partner had to go and tell them to clean it up! Absolutely disgusting service - no one should ever have to wait that long for food!!!

The sunday roast was nice but they had run out of a few choices by 5pm. The music was too loud to be able to have a conversation and there was no choice of ales. The decor seemed to lack any sort of theme. Overall it was a very disappointing visit.

Went here because they are aparently dog friendly. However, the dog wasn't allowed up to the bar, so if you are on your own with a dog it's effectively not dog friendly.

Went yesterday for Sunday Lunch. Ordered 2 roast beef dinners. Absolute disgrace, they served cold stuffing with the beef? The yorkshire puddings were burnt,black and barely warm, the mash was lumpy. I complained to the owner / manager when I paid the bill and when I told her what we felt was wrong, she totally discounted my comments by saying. "We've served 100s of lunches without anyone complaining" and snubbed me.

Called into this pub on my way home I have never visited it before.Ordered two gammon steaks one with all trimmings one only gammon egg and chips (homemade chips) Both plates were clean when the waitress returned for them,the gammon so juicy the chips crispy on outside not to soft on inside (perfect) in short a very enjoyable hearty well cooked meal in pleasant surroundings a return is definitely on the cards.

Served by a lovely young lady, we just popped in for one drink but the menu looked fab

Parked at East Tanfield then walked 3 miles down the Tanfield Railway footpath to Sunniside for a Sunday lunch at the Potters Wheel. Afterwards we got a train from the station over the road back to our car. Although it was wet and autumnal we had a great family day out. Which may have favourably coloured my view of the this establishment.

Just been here for Sunday lunch and I have to say it's the best roast I've had in a very long time and we travel most Sunday's all over the north east. £9.95 for 2 course or you can have lamb or steak with all the trimmings for extra £2. I had duck spring rolls to start, partner had warm goats cheese bruchetta, which were both really very nice. I was very apprehensive or trying the roast as I like a good one and I visted here few years back and it was terrible. I believe the place has recently been taken over and I can honestly say it's amazing!! We will definitely be back to try the amazing mid week offer of 2 course for £6.95 with a great selection having asked to view the menu. Please keep up this amazing work and with prices like that I can assure there will be a very good clientele! It's really nicely decorated throughout and the staff were so attentative! Very well done and a huge thankyou for making my bank holiday Sunday

There are some mixed reviews here, and I know the place underwent a major refurb fairly recently. I can only speak as I found, and that was excellent.

We visited today expecting same food as our last vista, how wrong .

1st time I've been here for a long time, good food the staff were very professional and relaxed which was due to the respect they got from the manager, it's not often when staff get valued these days, a great team performance all round.

Called in for lunch as we where passing by. Despite the football match being shown and it being on nearly every tv screen, very friendly staff directed us to a quieter food area. Service was good and swift and our meals where very good. Quality of fresh cooked food was good along with beong very tasty! Will certainly call in again..

Food extremely poor on this occasion

Popped into this pub as advertised food sounded lovely but what was served was not. To start with two of the staff said they will get cutlery but nope we had to get ourselves. The Sunday menu offered a few options all with crispy roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The Sunday roast cam e, plenty of beef which was ok but roast potatoes were disgusting and left horrible taste in the mouth. They weren't as described and were more like deep fried. The vegetables well what can I say one tiny dish for two people, soggy and what appeared a dollop of tin mushy peas.. my partner had the salmon but that did not come with potatoes and Yorkshire as advertised. I mentioned to staff not happy and when I pointed to meagre portion of veg and said surely that wasn't for two adults and a little laugh was all I got. The overall experience was very poor and I would suggest stay away as certainly not value for money ,total waste more like it. Not once did anyone ask how our meal was and when we said what we had to say, no apology any offer of partial/ refund just a shrug of shoulders as if could not give a damn well well poor

The food menu was a bit limited but what we had was really nice even got a free potters mess desert.

Nice refurbishment, excellent customer services, but the food was adequate, but not well prepared. The veg was soggy, not crisp, the salmon overcooked and rubbery rather than succulent. It could be a really good eatery if they get the cooking issues sorted!

The refurbishment is very good and the attentive staff excellent, it is well priced, but unless the food is right these are insignificant, because the best staff and surroundings in the world will not make up for badly cooked food ... we ate it, it was adequate but I wont be rushing back!

Just had a meal here everything was very salty and the chicken was extremely dry my daughter had chick pea curry which was also salty and the nan bread was rock hard. Staff were very nice apologised but no manager's were there so nothing was done about it.

They had just reopened after renovations so had not started serving food at that stage but what they had done so far was very good. A querky decor and pleasant staff. Outside sitting area a clever addition

Not open for food yet recently refurbished 'booths ' to sit in which are not comfortable if you only want a drink. Children running around in pub around on a Sunday night. However early days yet will try again when food up and running.

Fantastic .. the food is delicious, all home cooked and very good portion of meat either chicken beef lamb or pork. Veg cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire Puds well what can I say .. amazing. Always a favourite of our family .. price is amazing too. Rob the manager and chef is so friendly .. sadly the owner ( Mr D Reed) needs to fix the heating and this pub would be booming again xx

Every Friday have a family lunch my mother choose this place she was really looking forward to it very disappointed with it no heating was absolutely freezing our food got served I had lamb scottie my mother had lasagne hubby had fish n chips dad had madras and our child had mince pie hubby's, child,and dads food kind of OK but maps lasagne was off and my lamb scottie was minging mould spawns all over scottie we will never be returning health warning stay clear of this place ended up with apologies and a full refund total yak
