No recomendaría.

We both ordered linguine pasta with different sauces - far too much pasta in the bowl so didn’t look very appetising. Definitely a dish that was just reheated, restaurant should concentrate on quality not quantity. Far too over priced for what you get and service charged automatically added to the bill, service wasn’t that great either.

Very poor quality food. Very very disappointing experience. Both had variants of linguini, cabonara and tomato and mascapone. Cabonara was entirely flavourless and was only less than half eaten. The other, in all honesty was pasta with a can of heinze tomato soup poured over. Chicken which topped meal was as dry and tough as an old shoe and on wrong plate. Garlic sour dough bread was not fresh. All in all a really poor meal. Bottle of malbec shared was nice. Waiter took cost of cabonara off bill. And asked if we wanted a free desert which was a kind gesture however we did not accept. We were hungry after travelling and expected much better from a hotel of this standard. Poor show Hilton!.

As we were staying at the Hotel, we decided to eat at the restaurant. Firstly, the menu was disappointing being similar to a standard pub menu apart from the poor standard and high prices. My wife chose a fairly simple meal but they left out a key ingredient. The response was that the Chef was new and had forgotten. We strongly felt that there was no chef present. The sweets were all defrosted factory products which tended to support our view of no chef. When we checked out of the Hotel, we complained and surprisingly, they did not argue and refunded what we had paid for food. I have only stayed in Hiltons on a couple of occasions previously in the USA and Budapest and both were a much higher standard both Hotel and restaurant.

Ppor service from the in-house Hulton Hotel restaurant. Few unwelcoming aspects: Walk in as family table of 5 (hotel guests) just before 7pm. Restaurant nearly empty (3 other tables in use). Front of house informs us that he doesn't have a table he can provide for us and is busy serving other tables presently. Changes tune slightly and tells us to take a seat in bar while he prepares a table (understandably they are taking extra care in preparing tables). Putting us here concerns barman who immediately rushes over to start wiping empty bar table we are waiting next to. We start to surf trip advisor for alternative venues at this point as feel unwelcome. Once restaurant table ready we decide to stay put and are seated but informed he'd been about to close this part of the restaurant. I'm not sure that he really wanted our custom. Orders taken wrongly for food resulting in kids meals coming out on separate chit and some while before adults meals. Much difficulty in substituting salad instead of mushy peas with fish and chips (and then arrives with no dressing and none available when requested). Fortunately substitute lemon slice able to be requested as first lemon slice over the hill. Kids don't like pizza as tomato sauce applied too thickly and too sweet. Bill includes automatically added service charge (harumph) at 12.5%, bringing one course meal and single drink for 5 to £102.15. Will eat elsewhere next time.

Booked as a party of ten for a work function. Poor experience, many things on the menu not available including soup and ice cream! Even had no Sauvignon Blanc, in a Hilton Hotel? The young guys serving the food to the table had no idea what they were bringing out, so we were trying to establish who’s meals we’re who’s for them! Majority had steaks were all well done regardless of order and nothing was hot. Quite embarrassing when hosting guests from outside the north east.

Was here on a work trip and only ate here the once. I was a but a noted that the menu on the website didn't quite match the restaurant one and so some last minute changed had to be made. I chose a sharer plate of flatbread with hummus and baba gounoish, and don't get me wrong it was nice but certainly not worth £12 (photo attached) I then skipped straight to desert and chose a cheese selection and this was cheaper than my sharer at £10 but looked like it could have fed another 2 people at least, so much cheese for one person, was delicious but I was certainly defeated by it Good views from the restaurant if you were lucky enough to get a window seat

This place looks ok on arrival, for what it is...a star for that. The waitress and young waiter were lovely and very attentive...another star for that. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends. We only booked the restaurant as we were staying at the hotel for one night. We only ate some of the food as we had had such a long journey to get to the hotel and arrived tired and hungry. Food is awful...literally some of the worst food we’ve ever had...tastes terrible, poor quality and just not cooked well. In fact, we nipped up to Tesco to get some snacks afterwards to make up something to eat ourselves.

Went for afternoon tea. It was ok, but nothing special. The sandwiches were reasonable, but rather than bringing a selection, as other venues do, we were allowed to order one type of sandwich from the choice of 5/6 on the menu. The mini quiche was good, as were the fruit scones. The cake selection was nice enough, but all in all, afternoon tea at The Hilton was not the memorable experience we had thought it would be.

We liked the idea of 'Windows on the Tyne' but were quite disappointed that while seated in the restaurant there wasn't much to see out of the windows. Mostly just treetops and the taller buildings on the horizon. The starter was simple and really enjoyable but my main, the green thai curry, was not up to standard. It was very watery and was served with plain rice so there wasn't much flavour, although it had a slow burn to it. My partner's main was very good and she couldn't fault it. The food was nothing special but the bill was significantly higher than other local restaurants so I wouldn't return. If you're already in the Hilton and don't want to go out then it's passable and the restaurant itself is a nice place with very pleasant staff.

Hotel restaurants can be rather mixed affairs, sometimes the captive clientele don’t get served as well as they would if they went out. That wasn’t the case when I visited the Windows Restaurant on one night while staying in the Hilton. The menu has a reasonable selection of traditional items (burgers, fish and chips) plus a few more creative items (pork belly special). There isn’t really anything at the gourmet end of dining but the dishes were all well prepared and flavoured and arrived promptly.

We visited for afternoon tea - a belated Mother's Day treat from my daughter. Having high expectations with this being at the Hilton I have to say the overall experience was distinctly average. We were met by a pleasant waitress who led us to our reserved table and then advised us re ordering our sandwiches to go with the tea. You're allowed one choice each, which to be honest, was fine with us. We ordered a couple of sides to go with the tea, chips and sweet potato fries and waited..... Our afternoon tea was served with delicious, plump sandwiches and a lovely selection of dainty cakes etc. as you'd expect. We waited for our accompanying chips etc. for at least ten minutes after this had been served though and had to chase up twice in between. The chips were frozen chips and powdery to taste. So, to recap, the actual afternoon tea was one of the better ones we've had (and we do like to try different places), but it was also one of the most expensive so I suppose you want it to be perfect, and because of the additional wait / chasing for additional items from the kitchen, it was marred a little. The lady who served us was excellent and very helpful. Would we come back - probably not.

I ate at this restaurant alone one evening between Xmas and NY. The service was very good but I was not impressed with the choice which looked like a bog standard pub menu only more expensive. I ordered the cured salmon starter and found the salmon to be a little string but OK and the pickled fennel to be fresh vinegared fennel rather than pickled as stated on the menu. The waiter brought me some bread as well which i was very pleased about. My main course was a disaster. I ordered the duck flatbread and chips. The twice fried chips were more like soggy wedges - isn't the whole point of frying twice that they are soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The flatbread actually tasked mouldy. I asked for the chips and flatbread to be taken back.

Booked a spa afternoon with afternoon tea as part of my friends Christmas present. Had a lovely few hours chill in the spa, a lovely facial and back massage to then be completely let down by the attitude of the staff and afternoon tea. Afternoon tea was booked for 4p.m but turned up about 3:40 to a totally empty restaurant! Two members of staff working, a man called Rob who I'm under the impression was maybe the on duty manager and a young girl. When we got to the restaurant it was a couple of minutes before 'Rob' acknowledged us as though we weren't supposed to be there. When we said we were there for afternoon tea he told us 'well we don't have anything set up so you'll have to wait, we're closed' as we were waiting for our table to be set up a group of 4 woman turned up who had also booked for afternoon and were also greeted by the same extremely unwelcoming response, they were also told they would have to wait as the table for them also needed to be set up.Once sat down we were asked if we would like tea or coffee which we chose tea, we then seemed to wait a good 5-10 minutes for said tea to turn up, which turned up with a bowl with a couple of sticks of sugar in, only one being white sugar and no teaspoons!! Not really sure how you're supposed to stir your tea?! I was a little bit disappointed that you no longer get a 'selection' (as advertised on the menu!) of sandwiches instead you have to choose and get one sandwich, I chose the 'cheese and chutney' however think the chutney had been forgotten off! The rest of the afternoon tea was OK however I wouldn't have paid £16 for it if we didn't have it included! Scones were warm which was strange and it made them chewy! The whole restaurant was absolutely freezing which the woman at the next table also commented on! I'm not sure if the staff are aware it's December and it's the heating that should be on, not the aircon? It was that cold that we ended up leaving before finishing our wine! The only smile we actually got was from the happy waitress who set our table up and brought our tea. Until we were leaving when Rob couldn't have seemed more pleasant! Was a totally disappointing ending to what had been a lovely afternoon! Would 100% recommend a visit to the spa but give the 'Afternoon tea' a miss!

The hotel restaurant of the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, the Windows on the Tyne restaurant offers average food at hotel pricing, complemented by a view that is nothing short of wonderful. The breakfast buffet is well stocked in the mornings, with traditional english breakfast staples, and is solid fare (albeit at hotel pricing). I loved the consistency and the 2-3 day rotation of the breakfast menu meant I could enjoy my favorite dishes a couple times during the week.Lunch and dinner services, however, left a lot to be desired. The food was inconsistent, with a fish and chips that was beaten by a mere shack in the town itself, and yet on another night, the steak was wonderful! Service, unfortunately, was generally quite poor, except for one younger lady who worked breakfast and lunches each day. The service she provided was exceptional, although one bright spot was not enough to justify an otherwise poor experience.

Visited on 9th July 2016 for my grandma's birthday. There was four of us in the party, three ordered the Champagne Tea £21.95 and one the gluten free option £15.95 (impressed they did one and had rang in advance to check when we booked). We asked if we could get the champagne with the gluten free meal and were told, no it had to be purchased separately at an additional cost of £9. She went for a glass of prossecco instead. We were all pretty disappointed when the food arrived. Four bitesized 'sandwiches' (think 4x4cm) three different mini cakes (average) and a scone (which was nice). The gluten free option was crap. Four mini sandwiches, four slices of pepper/carrot/cucumber and humous dip and a flapjack cut into four pieces, for £15.95! We were all a bit embarrassed for the waitress who had to serve it. In the end we did ask if that was it on the gluten free option and they came back with a bowel of eton mess.If we had spent £90 in a bakery/shop we would have had a feast, a bottle of champagne and food left over for another one the next day. What we got was minimal (although the champagne was delicious) and a few bits went back as they were't worth eating.I've since read other reviews which have all said the same. The restaurant was pretty empty. Maybe it's time to address this?On the plus side the view was great and the service was good. However, we won't be going back.

The restaurant has nice view over the city. There are many window seats. Service was good, although a little rushed. Food portions were bigger than expected but what suffered for me was the quality of food. There were two of us eating, I had beef and my friend has battered fish. What we both noticed was the amount of salt in the product. Mine was so extreme that I was unable to eat any of the food ( the gravy was burning my mouth ). The waitress asked why I had not eaten and when I explained she just said she would mention it to the chef. I would have expected some recompense not not being able to eat the food, but I was still charged. I didn't argue, I just won't go back. My friend had to stop eating their food to as it was very fatty and salty. The main menu is very over-priced for the area.

We visited here on a Saturday lunchtime for my birthday. We booked in advance for lunch but they got booking wrong and table was set for afternoon tea but never mind that was soon rectified. We did have a nice table next to the window and I sat facing our famous Tyne Bridge. The starters were very limited and we were never told what the soup of the day was, so we just decided to have a main course and a dessert. We both had braised beef with creamed potato and roasted root vegetables. It was excellent. For desserts I had summer fruit pudding and my friend had sticky toffee pudding that was her second choice as they had ran out of pecan pie. They were also both lovely.I didn't give 5/5 as the service let them down.It was very slow and after all the restaurant was very quiet. Oten there were no waiting staff on the restaurant floor at all.Hopefully if we visit again the service will match the quality of the food.

Whenever I dine in a hotel restaurant, I don't really expect too much. However staff was very friendly and the variety in the menu was quite big. I have one off the pastas and was very tasty and rich in flavour.

Stayed at the Hilton Gateshead on our 1st night, myself and two friends ate in the Windows on the Tyne restaurant .I had pasta with chicken and pesto which only tasted of oil,it was very greasy and I had not eaten any when the waitress came back,I said it was bad,she said she would tell the chef but no message came back from the kitchen or explanation when we payed the bill.Needless to say we never went back for evening meals for the rest of our stay . We had breakfast at the hotel which was very nice, good choice . We used the ocean spa, very disappointed we all had treatments, felt very rushed and would think twice if I was wanting a pamper. The pool and facilities were good I would use this hotel on b&b stay only as bed room was a good size and clean , you have the Leisure club and the hotel is just a short stroll to town

The restaurant is in a great location and the food was quite nice but not great!. Not much atmosphere to be honest, and fairly minimalist - not a place for a romantic meal in my opinion. However, if you are looking for a great view of the river and bridge you won't be disappointed. Nice for breakfast with a fairly extensive choice and buffet. Service was good.

Came for a Champagne afternoon tea on Saturday 12th December on a very cold and snowy day as a retirement present which I had saved from July. Contrary to other comments we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had a lovely view over the River Tyne, our waitress was very courteous and the sandwiches, scones and cakes were tasty and well presented.

Perfect place for drinks as isn't crowded and the staff are very professional and attentive and they cared for all our needs and wants, it was expensive but totally worth it (as it was my 18th!) Would come back again and would totally recommend.

I took my husband here for his birthday, I informed a member of staff about this and got no acknowledgement whatsoever. Very slow service, lots of staff on and very quiet so no excuse. My husband said his food was bland and my garlic bread was very overcooked. I noticed the menus on their website are not the same as when you get there. The options for vegetarians are all spicy, I had the curry which was stated as mild and I disagree with this completely! Not every vegetarian likes spicy food with peppers in. I got the food half price with a taste card and I still feel robbed. Will not be going back!

Visited on Tuesday 17th of November for some food with family and friends. The location and view out the window was one of the main selling pointsHowever the food and service didn't live up to expectation.Service- Ridiculously slow, the restaurant wasn't even full and with 5 members off staff it took us almost 2 hours to finish a simple starter and main. I actually noticed food sat unattended on the serving counter between the kitchen and restaurant for up to 15 minutes at one point. After we had finished our starters it took 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared. Starter-•Pâté was tasteless and served without bread.•Garlic bread was covered in grease.•Soup was served with 2 slices of normal buttered white bread. (Come on Hilton how much did that set you back?)Main-•Fish and chips just seemed to be just batter and chips, not sure if there actually was and fish to be honest•Steak sandwich was literally the toughest thing in the world served with a pathetic looking salad dripping in some sort of Caesar dressing. Price-Seriously expensive.15 quid for the steak sandwich. 7 quid for the pâté. To be fair the portion size was good but the portion size is also good in Weatherspoons for half the price. Actually I'd rather eat in Weatherspoons. Avoid, plenty of better restaurants in walking distance.

I visited this restaurant with a friend as we had booked in to visit the hotel spa at 7pm. I booked for the earliest time slot- at 6pm to ensure we wouldn't be late for our appointment. The menu was quite limited and a little over-pretentious. I ordered steak with a mushroom sauce and asked for it to be cooked medium - well done and my friend ordered an off-menu dish which they happily obliged to cook for her. The service overall was fairly good, although the food did take 40 minutes to arrive at our table (and the restaurant wasn't even busy!). When my steak came it was without sauce and it came with some chopped up mushrooms and little cherry tomatoes (on the menu it stated that it came with a mushroom compote). The steak was also well overcooked! I asked for it to be medium- well done and it was practically cremated, making it very tough and chewy. I didn't complain to the waitress as it would have made us late for our appointment but I will not be returning to the restaurant. The only good thing about it was that we used a tastecard which enabled us to receive 50% off the food bill, I would have been very angry to pay full price for the quality of food we received- we live and learn!

Bar staff more attentive than the restaurant staff. Polite and well mannered. Afternoon tea was very tasty with tiny sandwiches, warm scones, eton mess and small cakes. Personally would have preferred slightly more savoury and less sweet but it was lovely. Also had a bottle of chilled sauvignon which was very nice. It is nice to sit there and watch the world pass by enjoying the view, especially when you are normally one of the people rushing around. a relaxing enjoyable afternoon

I've been here a couple of times now, the first time was for a birthday meal on a Saturday evening and the second time was for Sunday lunch. Both times the restaurant was been very quiet, which is unexpected considering the location. The food is relatively pricey, but you get 50‰ off with a taste card, making it a steal. Food is pretty good quality, and decent portion sizes. Considering how quiet they were I was a little surprised by how slow the service was on my last visit, but I wasn't in any hurry so didn't mind too much. The view over Newcastle is stunning, and this alone is reason to visit!

A really disappointing afternoon tea. The sandwiches had obviously been sitting around for a while because they were stale around the edges. Even if they hadn't been stale they were low quality anyway. Unimaginative flavours and low quality ingredients! Cakes were also clearly not made in the restaurant. I really wouldn't advise visiting

Terrible place to go for afternoon tea.Dry sandwiches made from cheap processed meat.Three almost identical mass produced cakes.Poor quality. Do not visit here for afternoon tea. There are far better places to go in Newcastle.Try Rosies on Gosforth High Street. At 2/3 of the cost of Windows on the Tyne, the quality is five times better.Jesmond Dene Hotel also. This is poor quality and poor value at £15.

We decided to have afternoon tea at the Hilton as part of my hen day. Unfortunately we found the service to be poor and the food did not live up to expectations. The sandwiches were minute, the tiny squares of bread were stale. The scones & cakes were okay, nothing special given the price. The service was disorganised. We had to ask the waitress a number of times for cutlery, napkins, reminders for coffee, milk, the list goes on. I'm not a particularly demanding customer and would ordinarily overlook all of this, however, the waitress was surly and clearly did not to want to be there. It was difficult to attract her attention, despite the restaurant being almost empty. There was no apology for repeated mistakes and she displayed a face like thunder as she walked away. Overall the experience was pricey and below par, not what I would expect of The Hilton. I left feeling irritated and disappointed and would not return.

Called here on Thursday for a late lunch. The restaurant was very quiet, our waitress was lovely and drinks and food orders taken very quickly. The food when it came was very good, however, 45 mins to get out 2 very easy plates of food is not really acceptable. So not the place to go if you are pushed for time. Having said that I would return just for the views.

This is a great place for a meal of afternoon tea. The views over the Tyne are beautiful and it's got a very special feeling. The food is very well cooked, tasty and not heaps of it (a good thing to be honest). The staff are also great. Me and my partner came for what we hoped would be a lovely romantic meal together celebrating our anniversary. What we came too was pure and utter disappointment. From there advetisement we were expecting a beautiful river view in a cosy restaurant. But all we got was a view of a fence and could see the top of the Tyne bridge if you squinted and that's with a window table. The waitress ceila could not have been less friendly. She didn't smile once, never asked how our meals were and had no idea what the chicken main came with and clearly just decided it came on a bed of boiled potatoes off the top of her head as what we received was a few burnt fried potatoes with chicken as dry as the desert. The salmon also overcooked complimented with a stone cold bernaise sauce which was far too bitter to be enjoyed. Our desserts were bland and clearly frozen crap. The cheesecake accompanied with one of the chefs very own hairs. Lovely. The highlight of our meal was actually the £5 breadboard. Genuinely the nicest thing and it was still pretty grim. The water we had was room temperature clearly stood there all evening with no ice. Teach your chefs how to cook, waitresses how to smile and refurb the whole restaurant and you may have a nice dinner, a £50+ meal without drinks and we came out wishing we had just stayed in with a jacket spud and coleslaw. If you want actually nice food in a cosy romantic setting just Pop directly over the other side of the river to the Vermont hotel where food and service is exceptional in comparison. Plus the bread board is free.

Thought I'd treat my daughter to afternoon tea (she's 6) on the recommendation of a friend. I think the children's afternoon teas are a brilliant idea, and are absolutely beautiful. Mine was delicious too and was an absolute treat. I also treated myself to a mocktail which was very refreshing.Stunning views also. Reason for the 4/5 is that the service just didn't do it for me. I think they need to learn how to smile. This is about the 5th time I've eaten here, and I'm never made to feel welcome, if it wasn't for the food/ afternoon tea, then I wouldn't be back.

I took my 10 yr old daughter for afternoon tea today as a special treat. She has Coeliac disease and I was impressed that they provided a gluten free option for afternoon tea. I even phoned this morning to double check that they definitely could cater for a gluten free afternoon tea. The restaurant was lovely, great views and pleasant staff. But when the cake stand arrived with her food I was so disappointed for her - the sandwiches were fine, but on the second tier instead of a scone there was just a pile of carrot, red pepper and celery sticks with two dips. The cakes looked like supermarket bought gluten free cakes, and one (half a mini loaf cake) was dry and inedible. When I asked about her scone it was pointed out that a scone isn't mentioned in the gluten free option (true, it wasn't - but I assumed a scone was a given in afternoon teas?). It did say on the menu that the gluten free option had Eton Mess (nope) and mini 'Bakewells' (?? unless that was the squashed looking flapjack thing) Three different members of staff asked if we were enjoyed it, and each time I politely pointed out that I didn't feel we had got what they had offered on the menu. The only response I got was that they would feed back my comments to the kitchen. My regular afternoon tea was ok - neither great nor awful, but certainly not worth recommending. I expected more from the Hilton.

Our family consisting of me and my wife, our Daughters and their partners and our grandchildren had been to see Santa in Newcastle and wanted to finish the day off with a nice meal. The gold Medal has never let us down, we all enjoyed a lovely meal in friendly surroundings. The staff are very nice and they interact with the young grandchildren, which is nice. Everyone left with fully tummies after a lovely day out.
