Highly recommend! The occasion was a special birthday lunch for a friend. It was perfect. A lovely warm welcome from the friendly, helpful staff who took the time to explain about the hall and show us some interesting original features. The dining room is beautiful. Our food was delicious, served piping hot. I liked the soft background music which adds to the ambience. We were extremely happy with our visit.

My word. The food was exquisite. Delivered perfectly by our waiter, Tom. What a wonderful human being. How attentive, how kind, how pristine with his delivery. Such a kind and lovely person. Having good food with the most excellent staff around elevates this place to an outstanding experience. Everyone is professional, well mannered and friendly. The food is scrumptious and the building a glorious nod to the decadent past.

So we travelled after seeing posts of the Beef Wellington on social media So starting with the positive the restaurant was lovely very nice ambience however it was very cold and we had to ask for the heating to be put on... The menu was limited however we knew what we wanted, the Beef Wellington but what a disappointment the pasty was soggy and undercooked and the pate you couldnt taste as it was a slither at the top, the truffle pomme puree was the size of a 50 pence piece and was missing the truffle and why put cold picked gerrrelles with it....ordered the merlot red cabbage as a side which lacked flavour and the cauliflower cheese was so watery you needed a spoon.... My friend had a pudding which was the apple crumble but that was lacking in apple and served in pastry, very very sweet We did both enjoy the wine albeit £8.60 for a small wine and lemonade Neither of us would return, such a shame.

What a fabulous venue for our Vow Renewal of 50 years. We celebrated with family and friends and from start to finish the whole experience has been wonderful. The staff are generous with their time and ideas always putting you at ease. Food exceptional and served by such attentive staff. The two rooms we used were decorated by our florist Katie which enhanced and created the ambiance to complement this beautiful venue. Our day went just had we wished it would. PERFECT. Thank you to all at Woodborough Hall

Visited for a celebration with three others and the Afternoon Tea was great quality. The sandwiches were freshly prepared, with lovely soft bread. We asked for an alternative to the salmon when we booked (as three out of the four don’t like it) and they served egg and cress, which was prefect. The chocolate brownie was nice and soft in the centre and the apple crumble sundae was so flavoursome with hints of cinnamon. The scones were served with fresh clotted cream and tea/coffee was served freshly throughout the whole sitting. I would whole heartedly recommend Woodborough Hall, as the service was excellent too.

allthough the evening reception and buffet was greatwe were all let down by the set afternoon meal we were attending a friends weddingfirst they bought out the gravy boats (after our starter) 10 minutes after the gravy they bought out the veg and 20 minutes after that they bought out the main plates so everything was cold (surely it should of come out in reverse order and closer together)the first people to be served had finished there main course before some had even got theirs which made the speeches and presentations rather latecompletely and utterly disorganisedthe bride actually came to the tables to apologise (which should of been done by the management who unfortunately were no where around)the servers looked bewildered when challenged and did not fathom or understand what was wrong baffling

Treated my sister in law to an afternoon tea for her birthday Living in Woodborough I wanted to support the local businesses and had driven by Woodborough hall almost daily wondering what it was like inside. It almost has a Willy Wonka mystery about itI booked with an open mind, aware that it probably was in need of some TLC. We were the only customers and were met by friendly staff who took us upstairs into a lovely room with views over the garden. Crisp white linen and fresh flowers on the tables gave a good first impression and distracted from the state of the decor that was crying out to be restored to its former glory . We were served a large pot of tea with the promise that we could have unlimited free refills. Shortly after, the waitress produced an absolutely amazing 3 tier cake stand over flowing with gorgeous sandwiches, cakes, scones, macaroons & compotes- see photos The food was fresh and extremely tasty. The balance of sweet and savouries was just right. So to summarise this was one of the best afternoon teas I’ve had. Yes the Hall does need some TLC but they need customers to achieve this so if you are thinking about going do it. You certainly get value for money and afterwards why not have a wander down the road into our beautiful village

This could be quite wonderful .However it is so tired & dated and needs considerable amounts of money to bring it back to the 21st Centuary.I visited this Hall when it was at its peak and unfortunately it ‘peaked’ a very long time ago.You hardly notice it now as it looks so jaded and downcast. It was the place to be seen in Nottinghamshire- heady days , long gone. The staff are doing their best in trying circumstances.Go if you get a Groupon !!

After reading the most recent reviews of Woodborough Hall, I felt I must add our experience. We had a wedding and reception in 2012. We hired the whole location as children would be on site and felt this was the most safest way. Myself, my stepmother and my best friend stayed the night before. We were up until 2am making sure the venue was set up correctly. No one was available to help to help and we felt they couldn't guarantee being reading for the next day. Despite Woodborough's own wedding planner, we were putting out chairs and decorating tables. Through our own hard work the day went off without a hitch. Even though this was 2012, I don't think the venue has got any better. Brides, please double check and don't rely on them, make sure you have back up. Nevertheless, the next day they were more than happy to see us off, as if they wanted a break. It is very run down and lights in the bedrooms didn't work. We booked all of the rooms and spent a considerable amount of money but would have been better with a registry office and a local pub. You have been warned :(

This was my first visit to Woodborough Hall. I had big expectations after hearing from friends what a wonderful experience it had been for them. Had an afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco, sandwiches-beef, ham, grated cheese, soft cheese and cakes-mini meringue, lemon posset, chocolate cup cakes, banana loaf, scones with jam & cream and pots of tea.The food was very tasty. However, I was a little disappointed by the venue. I understand the venue to be a Grade ll listed building. It seemed quite tired and in need of some tlc. There were spiders and cobwebs high up on the ceiling, with cracks in the walls with paint peeling & a terrible smell in the toilet. I missed the entrance to the driveway as it seemed to be flourishing with greenery and a sign small enough to miss. After finding our way in to the car park and parking up we noticed a huge pile of rubbish hidden behind the trees in the grounds. Cannot fault the food or service was just expecting more from the venue.

I gave my friend a voucher for afternoon tea here for her birthday and she invited me to go with her today. The conservatory setting is lovely as were the linen serviettes and table cloth but there the ‘lovely’ ends! The Prosecco wasn’t chilled, the tea was weak and cold ( no choice of tea either), the chicken in the sandwiches was cheap thin cut tasteless stuff, there was no butter for the dry scone, the chocolate buns were dry and not home made. The shortbread biscuits were tasty. We asked for more tea and all they did was put more hottish water in the pot on top of the existing teabags!!! Very poor and very disappointing- this was supposed to be a birthday treat - the tea is better in the little cafe in my village and certainly better in my own kitchen. Not to be recommended.

It looked a rather run down from outside but it's the middle of winter. No better inside. No drinks or menus offered as we sat downstairs. Taken up to restaurant where we had to wait for a waitress coming out carrying a large tray of dirty pots. Told to put my coat on the back of my chair when I asked the waiter to take it, only 4 chairs although we’d booked for four, no sparkling water and awful menu which could have been picked from the local tiny Co-op! I told them it wasn't what we had expected and left! They still charged us for drinks and they were extortionate. Don’t go.

Voucher for afternoon tea for two given to me as a birthday present. Extremely difficult to make booking, no one ever answers the phone at this place! Finally visited after two bookings were cancelled by the venue, one because ‘chef was ill’ and the other due to the bad snow, of which that was understandable. We were really looking forward to an afternoon at the beautiful Hall with freshly made food, and we were both very hungry when we arrived having saved up our appetite. We were ‘greeted’ by a quiet man at reception who took us through the silent hall to the silent orangery where one table was set for two. The whole Hall inside just needs a bit of a freshening up, a dust, a lick of paint and a bit of love. We wondered if chef was not feeling too good on this day either after a poor selection of sandwiches was brought out. It was not an impressive or fresh selection, dry thin beef on dry wholemeal bread, Bernard Matthews’ style wafer thin ham, on curly cornered dry white bread. Enough Chantilly cream and strawberry jam for 8 people (wasteful) the scones and cakes were also quite dry; it tasted like everything had been made earlier in the day and then left sitting out. We were the only guests there during our visit. There was a nice selection of teas but no decaf. The waitresses were very polite and did pop in on us a couple of times to ask if we wanted anything else. When we left there was no one around to speak to. It is clear that this place is struggling big time and it is a shame that in such a beautiful Grade II Listed building, the care and love for the building, and for providing guests with a good experience has disappeared. It feels like the owner and/or the management has given up on it.

We’ve been for lunch here a few years ago and had a pleasant meal so when the voucher came up again, we went again. The car park was pretty empty and the bar was empty but we were warmly welcomed and offered the menu and a drink. After choosing our meal, we were taken upstairs to the table where for half an hour we were the only couple there. We started with pate and fish cakes which were both very nice and then had roast beef and chicken supreme. The beef was lovely- maybe a little pink for some tastes and the Yorkshire pudding was one of the best I’d eaten. Wine was reasonably priced too.It was a shame for them that it was so quiet as it’s a great old building with fantastic history- ask the staff for the literature to read.Don’t be out off by some of the poor reviews as this has not been out experience on either occasions.

We took my parents for Sunday Lunch, courtesy of Groupon. We arrived 5minutes before the time booked, and were directed to the Bar - where we waited for 25 minutes, before being asked if would like a drink and to order. There were several items on the short menu 'not available'. We were eventually provided with just about adequate food more than an hour after arrival. Pudding took another hour and 15 minutes. As the only other customers noted, had we not pre-paid, we would have left this establishment without eating. Hugely disappointing !

Timothy Lock tried to ruin our day by not having a stocked bar, not enough staff and no management on our day. Our band served dinner to the guests and collected drink for our guests from the supermarket, we had to pay for more staff to come in and help the 6 waiting staff. Our guests cleared the tables of glasses and plates because none of WH staff were doing so! Thanks to our guests and hired help, they helped us enjoy our day - not the lack of communication, staff, management and drinks from WH. How you can embarrass yourself by saying WH is the number one wedding venue with a food hygiene rating of one, is beyond me. See the pictures and the other reviews. This place was once fabulous and well maintained but this current owner is not interested in any bridal party having their perfect day. It's so unbelievably sad. Shame on you!

A beautiful period building but has the worst management and customer service. In addition to this, Woodborough Hall Management allows young teenager girls to run the venue, stay over night in a store room on a blow up mattress!! On our day, the owner promised he would be there and he wasn't. In fact he wouldn't answer the phone to young girls of 14/15 & 16 years old when problems cropped up. He promised 13 staff I had no more than 6, 1 being over 18 years old. However this person has contradicted himself so many times he has forgotten who he has told what. Apparently there was ample staff for our wedding but he told another person that his staff didn't want to work for us - which one is it?? He lied saying that I threw stuff at his staff which I have more than 100 people to stand as witnesses that I never did anything to his staff. It is isn't their fault he doesn't know how to run a wedding or a business. This owner is ruining a beautiful wedding venue. Food took over an hour and a half to be served, The bar ran out of drink and we had to supply the drink at our own wedding! This venue still has a one eating for hygiene he pictures say it all!!

Three of us went on Sunday 22nd May for afternoon tea. We were seated on arrival, asked what we would like to drink, tea or coffee, and then ignored for 30 minutes. i went in search of a member of staff to be told she thought we'd had tea and there was a miscommunication. Some time later the same staff member brought us a dismal selection of sandwiches with very little filling and garnished with limp salad leaves and a poorly presented choice of stale cake. I again searched for someone to ask if we were to have anything to drink. The very embarrassed waitress/receptionist apologised and went to get a pot of tea. I had to request milk. We left, hungry, and without seeing anyone. I emailed the manager the same evening and have yet to receive even an acknowledgement of my comments. Stay well away from an establishment with such little regard for their customer, staff or food preparation. Absolutely appalling.

Service was a little slow to start, but as we were a group of friends we were chatting a lot so were not in much of a hurry. The canapés were a cocktail sausage each with a sticky glaze and sesame seeds, plus a small pastry cup with cream cheese, smoked salmon and cucumber. Not exactly over filling, but nice enough. We were given a menu to choose from which was fairly reasonable until we were told that some of the choices had supplements. The supplements were NOT detailed on the menu which is a little bit naughty and not a great start. Whether these supplements are charged if you are non Groupon customers I don't know.

I am sorry to add to the poor reviews, but I feel the owner need to be shocked into action. I have dined at Woodborough Hall several time in recent years and have had meals of varying quality. We have thought for a while that the beautiful building was looking shabby [notably the Ladies] with missing light bulbs and broken chandeliers and the place generally feels understaffed [no-one ever seems to be in charge]. I visited with friends on Tuesday - after a cancellation due to the 'gas leak' and several attempts to make contact and rebook -and felt that the menu had gone downmarket, the service was only just ok and the ambiance was non existent. Overall, the food was very average [and even with a voucher it could not be described as cheap]. My starter was ordinary, the risotto was quite horrid and the so-called Eton Mess a disgrace! The vegetables [for which you pay extra] were barely cooked and did not really go with the fish and chips dish [why not include some peas?], Very disappointing. This time we will not be going back.

On walking inside we were merely gawped at by 3 members of staff! Then a young woman bruskly told us to follow her upstairs where I was asked rudely for my voucher! From then on we had a delightful young lady serving us, sadly I didn't ask her name (she had an accent) then for the remainder of our evening young children from the wedding party downstairs continually came running up stairs being extremely annoying! On leaving we didn't so much as receive a goodbye or thank you! WOW if this were my business I'd be very concerned. Sort it out whoever you may be!!

I recently visited Woodborough Hall for my good friends wedding . First of all I was overwhelmed by the beautiful building everything looked stunning from the obviously very carefully chosen decore to the perfectly set dining room it was like a I had stepped into a fairytale. Secondly the staff made everyone feel very welcome and at ease which was wonderful as places like this can sometimes be a bit daunting. I had made the wedding cake for them as a gift and was involved a bit with the planning but I had never visited before the acctual day. My friend had told me about how lovely it was but still it managed to exceed my expectations even after the months of her gushing about it. Thirdly I have to mention the wedding breakfast which without a doubt was my favourite meal Iv had in a long time. There must have been 100 guests and we were ushered politely and efficiently into the beautiful function room where we were quickly seated. Staff were always on hand to sort out any last minute changes and make sure we were all comfortable. The wedding Co-ordinator rushed round making sure all the food got delivered to the correct guests even the "surprise" vegetarian didn't put them off there stride and the food was second to none. I want to shake the chefs hand as every course was perfect and I will definitely go back to eat in the restaurant soon.

Worst meal ever and service was second rate and poor meal came cold even never said when they took the order you have to order vegetables as extra so our meal came with none was not expecting such a poor service groupon should never allow this company to accept orders from them as it also gives them a bad name besides Woodborough Hall chip shop would have been better to go out for a meal than this we had to walk out service was that bad and they never even offered an apology or refund after enabling woodbourgh hall and complaining at the time

A Scam if using Groupon! They will tell you all sorts of 'stories',gas leaks etc, to cancel your booking to allow full paying customers in. Avoid it like the plague

Your organisation seems to have mixed up the Nags Head pub (not on Bank Hill but is in the village of Woodborough) with the Woodborough Hall Hotel. This is most unfair on the Nags Head as it's a welcoming venue with decent pub food---whereas the Hall Hotel has mixed reviews.

We visited the restaurant last night on purchasing a groupon deal. The deal was for a 3 course meal, along with canapés and a glass of prosecco on arrival.

What an amazing experience. My Father for his 91st Birthday, wanted to take us somewhere special. He chose Woddborough Hall. It was amazing. We checked the web site to make sure they served Steak as he wanted a good steak. The menu confirmed this. On arrival we were greated nicely after waiting over 5 mins. We were asked to take a seat and after about 5 minutes we decided we would ask if we could order predinner drinks. Some time later we were invited to go to our table and once there waited another few minutes before asking if we could order our pre dinner drinks. Later we asked again and our order was taken. When the drinks arrived my wife pointed out to the waiter, who appeared to speak little english, that there was a fly in her wine, he did not undertsand why my wife had a problem with a fly in her wine. Some time later we were given the menu on a4 copy paper that had obviosly been around several meals from the stains they contained. We examined the menu and were amazed at the selection. My wife and I could not find any thing we could eat. Perhaps the lamb shank with a rogan josh sauce was the biggest surprise. There was no mention of steak. We enquired as to if steak was availble and we were informed not. we pointed out that the menu given bore no resemblance to the one on the web site. This was a complete surprise to the staff, despite earlier comments on this site. We paid for our drinks and left. The meal we had at Frankie and Benny's was outstanding with excellent service.

We came here in September and have been here a few times over the years. This time we had such an awful experience and have no plans to ever visit again.

I would like to start by commenting on how beautiful this building is and how the surrounding area is wonderful. a perfectly situated and beautiful venue in a lovely area of Nottinghamshire. however it is completely wasted on the way this "fine dining restaurant" really runs.

I booked afternoon tea here with my mum to go last Saturday. It had been booked since march. Woodborough hall is a good half an hr drive from my house and my mum had previously travelled to get to me. We arrived and noticed it said closed for private function. We went in to reception to be told our reservation had been cancelled. Apparently a message had been left. ..but when I returned home and double checked my messages there was nothing at all. The staff member that dealt with us really didn't seem bothered that we'd had a wasted journey. ..basically we weren't getting an afternoon tea and that was that. All he offered was for us to re book...I don't think so. There was no real apology and no good will gesture to encourage us to return. I will not recommended this venue nor will I return.

Unfortunately, I have nothing at all good to say about Woodborough Hall. I will try and keep this as short as possible as I could go on in lengthy detail about our horrendous experience on Christmas Day last year. You may be wondering why I have only just left my review now, in September, nearly 9 months later? It's because we wamted to give them ample opportunity to rectify this situation and make it up to us but that has never happened. The experience was so stressful that we felt like we couldn't deal with it for a long time either.

Booked a weekend break through groupon and were delighted by our welcome, the hotel is a grand old country house with a modern funky twist of furnishings in a shabby sheik kind of way. just a few small thing let down the attmosphere. the gardens are lovely but the patio areas are covered with cigarette buts and the tables need cleaning. Get some perminant ashtrays out there....you never know people might use them. Our room was incredibly spacious and creatively decorated but just a little tired. The restaurant looks oh so elegant with crisp linen table cloths and napkins, lovely glass wear and cuttlery but the food was just a little lacking. Goats cheese beignets...when i trained a beignet was deepfried choux pastry either piped or doughballs. i got a sliced breadcrumbed fritter. which was tasty just dissapointing. my husbands scallops were devine whilst my chicken with pesto was missing the pesto and the potato rosti was tiny. the chunky chips were to die for. didn't bother with sweet, hubby had selection of continental cheeses. ie stilton! double gloucester and Brie. fridge cold and boring. 2 courses £20 3 courses £25 but not really because when totaled up they add 20% VAT on everything including the wine. nowhere on the menus did is state this would be added seperately. everything was oh so close to good just details left it dissappointing. the afternoon tea £10.95 plus VAT was a waste of money, the queen may not like much filling in her butties but i like to taste what i'm eating. there is plenty of it though. coffee was cold. so close yet so far. sorry. the staff are lovely. Oh and since when is full english breakfas either scrambled eggs with bacon or smoked salmon. what no sausages!!! or a tomato. Oh yeah and somebody take Nora jones off the CD player, i like her but not 24/7 afternoon , eve and breakfast

We first came here when it opened as a restaurant and the food "was" fab and certainly was fine dining. We started to be disappointed about 8 months ago. We had a meal care of groupon and was very disappointed - however, there was a large wedding on and we thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt and try it for Sunday lunch today. We did not arrive until after 2pm and asked if Sunday lunch was available and was told it was. We were shown through to the bar and given the menus. Whilst deciding what to have my husband had a gin and tonic. Alarm bells started to ring when the G&T; was served with no ice or lemon/ lime!

We visited Woodborough Hall recently for a meal and were really impressed. Woodborough Hall is a grand mansion set in beautiful gardens. Inside has been lovingly restored featuring modern and old decor in keeping with the building.

We were given a gift voucher to go to Woodborough Hall, which said it was worth £75. When we arrived we were greeted by receptionist who escorted us to the restaurant which is on the first floor - up a very well worn carpet with loose stair rods.

Took my wife for an anniversary meal as it was fairly local and we had not been here before. We were very disappointed with the whole ambiance and service. On entering the hall there was a gentleman sitting at a desk on the phone fingering through a book. Having waited several minutes with no acknowledgment we were there I decided to walk through to the next room to find someone. Finally found a waiter. Our dining room downstairs had seen better days and was in need of being decorated, as indeed much of the hall did. The orangery looked nice and is a recent addition I understand. During our meal jazz was the background music, not ideal for a relaxing evening out. As our main course arrived we were offered different sauces to go with the meal. The waiter went away to get a sauce for my wife. On his return they hadn’t got any. Second choice, of he went and came back, they didn’t have any, in fact he said they only have one sauce, which did not go with salmon. Our main course was cleared away and the waiter said he would bring the desert menu back. After some time we called the waiter back over, were he asked if everything was OK, and we had to request the desert menu. We asked for the bill after desert which we paid in cash and the waiter took away. After a long time sitting there waiting for our change we got up and walked out to the bar and found the waiter. When he saw us he shot of to find our bill, which they couldn’t find. Eventually we received our change. The whole evening was disappointing, as the food was excellent but badly let down by the service and poorly maintained surroundings. Could be so much better.

We went for afternoon tea there recently which is priced at £10.50 each. The cups were ordinary hotel cups, not a china cup in sight! One cup had to be returned as heavily stained. Dry sandwiches made that morning and kept in the fridge until we got there at 3pm! No tea leaves in the tea pot, teabags instead! No cream with the coffee. Dried up scones and squirty cream on top. Surely if you call it an afternoon tea these things should just follow without question? Tea bags and dry sarnies - not an afternoon tea in my book!

Went here for a Saturday afternoon snack with friends. Food was excellent - all home cooked and very tasty, staff were super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our food. Not often I would leave a review for a local pub but the Robin Hood is well worth a visit - will definately return. Thank you for the lovely food and being such nice friendly people

Called into Arnold and decided to treat ourselves to a cooked breakfast, so dropped into Front Street Café, just up from Asda. Ordered the classic breakfast with a fried slice at £6.50. It was very tasty, not greasy, lovely sausages, and a great portion. And the tea was especially nice, which isn't always the case in some cafés. The café soon became busy as it was already lunchtime. The interior was welcoming, clean and inviting, with a friendly lady serving. Will definitely call in again when next in Arnold Centre, based on our experience today. (The only downside, and hence only 4 stars, was the condition of the toilet, which needed some serious attention.)

Very disappointed. Went when first re opened after being closed for a while and the food was excellent. Today we decided to go for evening meal, portions were small, peas served in tiny pots the fries were over cooked, the meat pie was dry inside. Fish goujons not good quality and not like the ones we had when pub re-opened, these were just cheap fish fingers. The food is expensive and not worth the money. It is also very noisy and not a pleasant environment. Will not go again. We were so happy that the pub was serving good quality food when it re-opened but it has gone down hill. Staff were polite and helpful but seemed to not know what they were doing.
