Admiral Rodney in Gedling

Very disappointed. Went when first re opened after being closed for a while and the food was excellent. Today we decided to go for evening meal, portions were small, peas served in tiny pots the fries were over cooked, the meat pie was dry inside. Fish goujons not good quality and not like the ones we had when pub re-opened, these were just cheap fish fingers. The food is expensive and not worth the money. It is also very noisy and not a pleasant environment. Will not go again. We were so happy that the pub was serving good quality food when it re-opened but it has gone down hill. Staff were polite and helpful but seemed to not know what they were doing.

Nice pub, very well refurbished. Had food about a month ago, wasn't overly impressed tbh, but good service and nice place for a drink.

Really nice place however our experience this evening was one of the worst I've had when having a meal out which spoilt birthday celebrations, the waitress just didn't listen to what we wanted, sauces ordered came out when meal was half eaten as it was only like warm in the first place, had to query the bill 3 times as extras added, we proceeded to leave after paying the price for the waitress to come running out in the carpark as she hadn't charged the correct amount on the card machine which was a total embarrassment!

Great local pub in Calverton with a warm, friendly atmosphere. Several log burner fires are usually lit when it gets chilly. Great beer with a couple of taps rotating every couple of weeks. Food served throughout the day with a decent standard menu plus 8-10 specials which frequently change. Roasts on a Sunday.

Not your average Pub , atmosphere was fantastic and the bar menu was unreal , I ordered a few things to share with my friends and was out of this world …… defo be visiting again :)

What a great place , friendly atmosphere, decided to stop for some lunch and the food was amazing , tried a number of things off the menu and it was all a must try if your passing by , nachos , fully loaded , burgers all came out quickly and tasted out of this world !!

Food and service was exceptional.

Live band was good but the staff we under experienced, rude and have no people skills. The bar manager was the only one running around doing anything. The girl who took our order sat chewing gum whilst talking and when we queried where our condiments were she turned to her colleague and said we ‘give him chance he hasn’t even left the kitchen yet’. This is rude and not expected from our local pub which used to be so nice and friendly

Held a wake at the Admiral Rodney, using the function room just off the beer garden. Hannah and Philipa were brilliant, no request was too much hassle. The food was great, service brilliant, good value for money, and everyone said how good the event was. The function room was clean, well laid out and the decor worked perfectly for what we wanted.

Nice locals pub. We use it as a social meeting point every month for a local advanced motorcycle riding group. Decent food and beer. Friendly staff. Been in tonight, it's under new management. We had a really nice meal with some decent beer. Recommended.

Very very smart place too eat or drink .. Main doors too the side were beer garden is side of carpark .

Decent village pub. However, the new owners are a bit greedy. Once they took over, a pint of pale ale went up from £3.80 to £5.25! Also while they've made effort with the redecoration, white walls and harsh white lighting make it feel like a doctors waiting room, not a village pub.

We visited The Admiral Rodney over the Christmas period as we were visiting family in the village. It was lovely to find a pub with such a lovely atmosphere. The bar staff were attentive and friendly at all times and the owners were very pleasant when we bumped into them. The pub was beautifully decorated, bright and airy but with a nod towards the traditional village pub vibe. The drinks were reasonably priced and the menu looked appetising. We didn't eat this time due to family dinner commitments but will look forward to sampling the menu on our next visit. There was also ample parking, a good sized beer garden and the facilities were clean. This pub is also dog friendly, which is always a bonus for a pooch enthusiast like me!

Standard is just superb, from food to service I'll use the pub again

Hopefully this pub is still a work in progress as they have only just been taken over and reopened Sunday evening..4 customers in... Warm friendly welcome from the bar staff... But we're told they were closing at 8.30pm due to no staff!!? No food available either Very stark decor... everything white and cream...no atmosphere Food menu very limited Will be interested to revisit in a few months time and to see what progress has been made

Glad to see the pub open again is the first point to make. It was fairly busy which is good to see, but gosh it’s like sitting in a dentist waiting room, it is so bright and clinical, the walls are white and the lights are white! It used to be a cosy pub to sit in. The menu was carb heavy, hoping this changes over time as it was just chips, pizza, burger and tapas, no good if you want something abit lighter. Will try again in a month or so. The Bridge is a lovely pub to visit so get the ambience like that and I think it would be a whole lot more appealing. .

We went here for my uncle's wake. There are a few rooms you can choose to sit in. The staff were friendly, approachable and they worked hard. The food which was laid out was well presented and nice to eat. 😊

Superb little pub. Great food, great selection of beers and the landlady, Cat, was lovely. She allowed us to overnight on the car park in our motorhome, even at short notice. Will almost certainly be back.

Phoned and asked the landlady if it would be possible to overnight on their carpark in our motorhome en-route to an event. Naturally we would eat and drink in the pub. The landlady, Cat, was lovely and agreed without hesitation despite the fact that various other vanners had already asked the same question. Excellent range of ales and all in great condition and the food, well!! Very reasonably priced menu and a range of specials. The Piri Piri chicken was one of the best pub meals I've ever had, it was wonderful and an extremely generous portion. My wife's lasagne was also very good she tells me. All in all, lovely people, great beer, great food, loved it!! Thank you Admiral Rodney, we may well be back.

Amazing local pub! Everyone in there (staff and customers) was super friendly and the food was fantastic. Reasonably priced, nice, cosy and quiet. Definitely a huge recommendation from us. Dog friendly too which is a huge bonus!

Another amazing lunch. Quality food, beautifully cooked and presented. - and served with a smile. The main meals are a hard act to follow but the dessert menu is well up to the challenge and we were all delighted with our choices.

A lovely place to have a drink or a bite to eat. One bar has a glowing fireplace. There are at least 3 bars. Friendly owners and staff.

We called in after visiting Nottingham with my Dad who is 83, 35 years ago he had a retirement party at the Admiral Rodney and I thought it would be nice to take him back for some lunch. The food was brilliant, we had Steak and Ale pie and my dad had a fish finger cob. All the food was really nice and the service was spot on too. It was and warm with the log burner blazing away. It's a shame there isn't a pub like this back in Bromsgrove.

Went for evening meal on Thursday 22/9/2022 after a 5 year gap and it was a fabulous meal well worth a visit, will definitely be going back.

Visited with friends last Sunday, best Sunday lunch I’ve eaten out in a very long time. Meat was cooked to perfection, could tell everything was freshly made and the Yorkshire puddings were out of this world. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Excellent choice of drinks on offer too. For a village pub it was extremely friendly and welcoming. Well done!

We visited the admiral Rodney for lunch today after a friend’s recommendation and I would definitely recommend this pub to others. The bar staff were very friendly and the food was terrific, we can’t wait to come back for another meal soon

Having read largely excellent reviews, I telephoned in the morning to make a reservation for lunch for a friend and myself for the following day. I spoke to a lady who appeared to be a proprietor and was advised that they were unsure if they would be opening, as their dishwasher had broken down. She said that they were about to go out to see if they could get a new machine and have it delivered and installed. If successful, they would be opening the following day. This left me in a difficult position, as I was travelling from 50 miles away. I asked if she could let me know by phone when she knew as I would have to book elsewhere if they were unable to open. She assured me that she would and took my number. By 4pm, having heard nothing, I called again and got the same response. At 6pm, I phoned again and this time I spoke to a staff member at the Admiral Rodney. This poor woman was completely in the dark as the owners had not returned, hence she was unable to say if they would be opening for lunch the next day or not. She did, however, assure me that when they did return, she would definitely get them to ring me with an answer. Again I left my number. By 8pm, having heard nothing, I had to make alternative arrangements. To say that I am disappointed, is an understatement. If this is the way that those who run the Admiral Rodney treat potential customers, perhaps they should consider if they would be better employed in a non service related business.

This is our local and we absolutely love it. Since Cat and Jim have taken over they have really turned the place around. The food is outstanding, highly recommend the steak pie and chips! Also the Sunday lunch! We always receive a warm welcome and...

After a 3 hour walk in the sun today I was ready for a beer and food so I took a chance with what turned out to be a lovely pub. There was a nice atmosphere and the Tandoori Chicken Panini with a pint of Tiger Beer went down really well. I left to head back home, a happy man.
