The Woodbine Cafe is now an oriental takeaway - sadly the old traditional British restaurant is no more. My wife and I had a takeaway from here recently - the food was pretty decent and prices were comparable to most Chinese takeaways in the area. Delivery took a little longer than expected (around an hour) and they apologised for that. Would consider using them again although there are cheaper options in town.

Popped into this lovely looking cafe whilst walking around lowestoft. First thing you notice is the old style 70s ish front, then the 5 star food hygiene rating. When you go inside it is just like a proper 1970s cafe. The days when they made real cafes. The menu was clearly laid out for everyone to read & the whole cafe was extremely clean. Not just on the floor or tables but up above around the pipework aswell. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous. Full of flavour & taste. We even had a lovely chat with a few friendly locals. Plus the lady who served us told us how she came to help her friend on a saturday to wash up & she has been here since, 24 years now! As we were about to leave,i had a sneaky peak at the kitchen. OMG! I have NEVER seen a cafe with such a clean & spotless kitchen. I am a truck driver so i have seen many. This kitchen has to be the cleanest i have ever seen. Keep up the great work & a massive thank you.

First time in Lowestoft, we needed somewhere to eat from arrival. One minute from railway station - stumbled on this gem! An old English 'caff' dating back to 1895! Great period interior. Large menu selection at great prices, welcoming, friendly ladies waiting on and cooking. Massive portions, prepared for as ordered (I was 'pogged out' past dinner time). Highly recommended traditional English cafe - stay exactly as you are - brilliant!!!

A bit of a Lowestoft institution is the Woodbine. A proper old school cafe with bench seats run by very formidable ladies! All the usual breakfast sustinense is available plus they do excellent roast dinners too. Well used by locals it a cracking little place and a damn sight better than Wetherspoons opposite the station. They do toast and marmite too, whats not to like?!

Lowestoft is a friendly town and this must be one of the friendliest places in Lowestoft. The food is top quality and well cooked and the welcome is second to none. The portions are generous and it is all round excellent value for money.

I was introduced to Woodbines by a colleague and have since returned a couple of times myself. In a world of corporate or modern design eateries its great to sit and enjoy a traditional full English in a proper traditional cafe. Staff and welcoming and friendly and the food is of good quality. You get looked after.

I used to be a regular here up to 5 years ago, on my way to the Fish Market, but only the occasional visit now. I can say that nothing much has changed in that time, only the colour of the shop front. It's still the old BRITISH style Cafe. Roast dinners with drinks for less than £20. I did indulge in one of their steamed chocolate puddings, with chocolate sauce and ice cream as an extra. It was definitely home made and a refil of tea at just 90p It was good to see you again Carol, keep to that quintessential ' BRITISH Cafe ' style.

We fondly refer to this as Greasy Joe's but in a really good way. We always have fish and chips, white buttered bread and in my sister's case a cuppa! The staff are so friendly, the cooking superb and we leave there fully satisfied. The fish is just melt in your mouth - yum!

Today was the first time I have been back to the woodbine in nearly 8 years. My family have been going there for over 30 years (I know because my little brother was a bump lol) Let me start by saying if you want good old fashioned hearty value for money food then this is the place to go. Meal sizes are huge food is fresh and the staff are fab.

The woodbine cafe serves one of particular favourites which is a bacon and hash brown roll. It is the most delicious breakfast I have had. Also the price is very reasonable and food is cooked to order. Overall a very highly recommended cafe

Of all the reviews I have ever written for Trip Advisor this is the most difficult. I had last been in the Woodbine Café over 40 years ago when I worked on Lowestoft fish market. The café has not changed; in an era of lattes, skinny lattes and all manner of sophisticated coffee options the Woodbine Café has stuck with basic tea and instant coffee and for that I am grateful. If you want sophistication the Starbucks type experience do not enter the door, if you want the nostalgia of remembering what old fashioned unpretentious cafes were like, visit the Woodbine Café, I for one will be back, and the coffee at £1 per cup is a bargain.

Excellent value. Whether it's breakfast or lunch, it's good home cooked English food. No teabags here...it's good old leaf tea. The staff are pleasant and helpful too.

This café is just how cafes used to be in my youth. Good quality food at sensible prices and set in nice surroundings where people chat to each other. The tea and coffee is made properly and doesn't come out of a machine like so many other catering establishments tend to serve theirs nowadays. This is very good honest, no frills grub that tastes fantastic.

My regular lunchtime haunt since the 70s good food always there. Many changes over the years. Food remains the same and always the home made pies. I don't k know if they still do the treacle pudding with custard?

Situated not far from the town centre the cafe is a little dated but offers good value cafe food. Near the gates of a once major fishing port it is perhaps surprising to find a cafe reminiscent of so many working mens cafes of the past, still surviving.

I’ve been here for a few afternoon teas and lunches. The food is always lovely and cooked well, the themed afternoon teas are always really fun and a great treat for the local area. However the staff are not very attentive, they give you your food/drinks and leave you! It states unlimited drinks but they don’t ask if you need more, they don’t even check if your food is okay or if you need anything. At one point my friend said ‘excuse me’ and tried getting the attention of staff at the table next to us and the staff member just walked away, when we finally managed to ask for more tea they huffed like we were an inconvenience. There were also loads of hairs on our food, I think they were blowing around because they just kept appearing, maybe because they allow dogs. It’s a shame because I love the afternoon teas but it has put me off.

We were staying in wrentham for the weekend and called in for a pint on the Friday and saw that Saturday was a tapas evening. So we booked a table for Saturday. Both the food and service were excellent. We would definitely visit again when next visiting the area.

Sadly our recent visit didn't live up to expectations. 3 of our 4 diners had problems with their dishes. Whist we were offered replacements for the steak dishes it would have meant 2 of the diners would be eating their main courses at different times. Lets hope it was a one off experience. Disappointing as it was a birthday treat.
